Most people don't know this, at the moment he retired, he was #21 in all time history in Home Runs, unbelievable, This man was a real wizard in the hot corner, clutch hitter, a contact hitter. I remember him even stealing bases when was necessary. What a player.
🙄 Women have been playing baseball since 1875. Apparently you're the only person who hasn't watched A League of Their Own, which is based on a true story.
My childhood idol and to this day, the greatest Yankee third baseman of all time. But never gets the credit. The Yankees never gave him his day for everything he did for the Yankees.
If you remember Nettles departure from the NYY was not pleasant, as he was at odds with George & followed Goose Gossage to the Padres for a safe haven.
My favorite all-time Yankee! I’ll never visit the HOF until he’s in it where he belongs! Guy was the Ozzie Smith of 3B didn’t do backflips like Ozzie but Nettles actually could hit, unlike Smith who’s there solely for defense.
Laughable to think that Nettles is the best defensive 3rd! Buddy Bell was the better defensive 3rd! Bell 6 Gold Gloves. 25th DWAR. Nettles 2 GG and 42nd DWAR. The Indians traded Nettles to the Yankees to make room for Bell at 3rd.
Chris Chambliss is my all-time favorite ball player, I idolized him, I still do, and Nettles is close behind. I love all the mid to late 70s Yankees, from Oscar Gamble to Mickey Rivers to Ed Figueroa to Lou Pinella and Sparky Lyle, and my favorite pitcher of all time Ron Guidry. And his ego is massive but of course I loved Reggie Jackson too
It’s not a crime wtf don’t let emotions and being a fan influence your decision he has a lifetime 248 batting average not 400 homers 390 and not close to 3000 hits 2200 in a position that has to produce more if he was a shortstop or second baseman with those numbers than he had a shot very good player not elite the hall is for elite
Nettles was my favorite player. I was 7 years old when I saw him win a World Series game against the dodgers with incredible defense. Every time I went to Yankee stadium nettles always hit a home run. He is top 5 all time in defense and top 10 3rd basemen with the bat. When he retired he was in the top 30 all time in homers. Definitely a hall of famer. Shame on those keeping out such a talent.
You can't have players playing rough like that anymore because they are all getting paid like 20 million dollars a year each now. The owners want the players all healthy now. Back then the salaries were much lower, so the owners didn't care as much if they mixed it up. There was a lot less money involved.
_'..all healthy now..'_ LOL to do what end up injured and retired in a couple of years anyway with all of the ridiculous coddling via "sabermetrics" overload
don't be ridiculous! They are at the highest level of competition. Don't you think Brett would've done the same to Nettles given the right circumstance!!?!?
Unfortunately, Nettles' outspokenness got the best of him. Many forget he wrote a disparaging book about George Steinbrenner, which put him in the dog house and sealed his fate where such recognition is concerned.
Mr. Nettles you’re the man at 3rd base! When the Yankees and Red Sox fought at Yankee Stadium in 1976 I remember seeing you trying to keep the peace after Pinella steamrolled Fisk on the play at the plate and all hell broke loose! After loudmouth weirdo Bill the spaceman Lee joined the fracas & got his shoulder separated, head thumped by Mickey Rivers and another blast to the face, Lee was finished for the season. He still carries a 1971 Topps Graig Nettles baseball card in his wallet so you can kiss his butt in perpetuity. Talk about living a lifetime rent free in someone else’s head!

YOU ARE SO RIGHT. EVERYWHERE HE PLAYED HE WON!!!!!
I like Nettles, but he was no clutch hitter.
At one time Graig either set or tied a major league record for home runs in the month of April (11).
@@francisfantino7981 Anyone could win on the Yankees.
He was good. But his batting average was kinda low.
Nettles. Sharp as a tack. Great recall of details.
yes
Wish we could say the same for the dude with mic in hand
Nettles, Brett. Men playing a man’s game.
🙄 Women have been playing baseball since 1875. Apparently you're the only person who hasn't watched A League of Their Own, which is based on a true story.
Women didn’t throw down like that. Yes, women played baseball as well. What’s your point?
Operative word, men.

Thank you Indians
Between the glove and the bat I’ll take Nettles
390 HRs
Retired all time AL home run leader 3B
Hall of Famer
@@Lawomenshoops Gold gloves are very subjective.
I think the HOF guys are feeling bad because you aren`t visiting the place.😆
Nettles is a MAN!

iam with you
Back in the good old days when men were allowed to be men and umpires used common sense instead of being puppets of the league.
Nettles was my favorite player growing up!
H O F...it's a crime he is not in Cooperstown
100% agree

number 9!!!! do you think he belongs in the hall of fame
best 3rd baseman yankees had
Lol compared to who? Not top 10 at his position
Back when men played the game.
He saved the Yankees in the 78 World Series. Guidry didnt have it that night.
He left his fastball in the bullpen, according to him.
If Nettles didn't have the night he had.... Yankees lose the series
And nobody got thrown out the game!!!!
This interviewer needs to learn to not interrupt and let the man finish his sentence.
Also he got a few of his players incorrect in his statements to Nettles
yeah but his heart was in it, so I cut him some slack. Nettles was very gracious because he saw the same thing as me.
Great 70's Baseball, Big Red, Yanks/KC, Boston, Big 3 O's
Puff!
And the Really good A's
Baseball totally blows today!
got that right
@@las5esquinasdeny107 shut up boomer
Brett outweighed Nettles by 25 pounds, that play could have ended way worse for Nettles.
See Bill Lee.
Nettles backed off from nobody. He slapped Reggie at a team party.
@@TheBatugan77did not know that
Nettles 🏆
hall of famer!!!!!
Nettles, didn't just "try" he absolutely blew up Frank White at second base later in the series. It was awesome baseball on all fronts!!!
yes it was, and you are right frank still has graig spikes printed on his shin

Pay should be commensurate with effort. If you're walking around like some primadonna candy ass, you dont merit the big bucks.

He will never be as good as Brett, and he only stirred up the pine tar thing because he hated Brett, the jealousy was obvious.

@@etamommyBrett wasn't that smart 😉
Absolutely not. Idiotic comment
Brett was better offensively, but that's where it ends. Graig was famous for his defensive plays and was good in clutch hitting situations.
MUCH better fielder, which even Brett admitted.
That 22 banner is in LA if not for Nettles
Only captain not to get a day or plaque
WTF Yankees
thats what we are thinking!!!
