I love how her mention of King Crimson causes absolutely no reaction from anyone in the audience. They're like "Who?"
Actually, I think they're just listening. I found it funny there was not much reaction to the Rolling Stones mention as most didn't seem to get the joke/connection.
I was waiting for her to launch into Thela Hun Ginjeet right after. "This is a dangerous place!"
One of my favorite songs. I think of it so often. You can't beat Adrian Belew's singing of it but I appreciate hearing another artist sing it, especially one so talented as kd lang. Thank you for posting it!

I’m impressed, I stumble on this by scrolling on my YT wall, well, let’s say that before watching this video, I wouldn’t have va put KD Lang an King Crimson in the same sentence, but the magic worked. Congrats to KD and the band for pulling this off.

such a great version. She knows the brilliance of Adrian Belew's original vocal. He's such an underrated or unnoticed singer. I've seen so many King Crimson live videos and he is spot on every time. An amazing voice. Now, when I hear Ingenue, I can hear the influence- love it

The original appearance of this song is from Robert Fripp's "Exposure" sessions. Adrian came along much later and wrote the lyrics, so it started out British. But that's just nit-picking. Real kudos goes to kd or whoever chose a King Crimson song out of the hundreds of other great British songs.
...mmmm... "Adrian came along much later and wrote the lyrics" and the melody (and the riff...)... This is something Adrian started to underline always(often) after a certain email sent by Robert in 2013... That since 1981 he was the guy writing the great part of everything, apart some classical geometric Robert staff and some beautiful chords, like these... But he was the guy writing songs...

@@jublaim Well, first, we could start from history... apart In the wake to Island period, Robert has haven't been the main composer. Or, at least, he wasn't the guy writing songs. There are many interviews of many former Crimson guys who tell, more or less, the same story: McDonald, who didn't like Robert playing and was the primary composer in 69; Wetton, who talks about him and Robert writing all the material, but stating that, he was the guy creating melodies, whilst Robert was more of an orchestrator.... and then Mr. Belew, who said a lot about Robert, and talks about their beautiful relationship as composer: he was the guy making melodies or song, sometimes starting from Robert chords or musical parts. And they were peer... until Robert sent a crazy email talking about how he didn't see Adrian in the new lineup. Crazy things... The guy has been said until a couple of year before starting the 4 drummers-crimson band, that he was done with music...

I thought I had written a comment to this performance before... But I've been listening/watching it for at least 8 times and probably lost it and stumbled ahead... It's like KC and Adrian Belew gave KD and SBB this to enable it s'more their way! Like KC gave it to Kurt Elling, and to me and you.
This arrangement of this Crimson's genious piece remembers me of Fleetwood Mac - Albatross.
There's a through-line from Albatross to North Star (on Exposure) to this, definitely. I wonder if Fripp was a FM/Peter Green fan...?

kd has such incredible depth. As much as she loves Patsy Cline and the queens of country it was nothing unusual to see her catching the Art Ensemble of Chicago at the Edmonton Jazz Festival.

OMG!!! I LOVE THIS!!!
Very pleased that kd selected and sang this KC song so well. I've read a lot of comments regarding the Atlantic origins of Matte, Fripp (UK) music, Belew (USA) lyrics, strangely with a Japanese title (Please Wait). The confusion was complete, Fripp's guitar work replaced with Petal Steal gave this most Englishman's work (and I use that term advisedly) an almost American Country and Western sound.

How it took me almost 13 years to finally learn of this, I'll never know, but well done! This has been my favorite King Crimson song for decades, and I'm glad to see it getting some love.
i love "discipline" but this has always been my least favorite track ( i guess i just get high on all that frippery, as it were.) but devoid of all the expected crimson baggage, the song just blossoms. mad respect for king crimson and kd lang. so now let's hear her version of elephant talk... lol

Listening to this it occurs to me that this song must have been written just so that KD could do this version of it. Love crimson and have done since 1972 but this version for me tops the original for warmth and humanity and yes …… soul. Thankyou kd

@@willb6608 I got one for you; Heartbeat, from Beat. I had a housemate who, when she was in love, played that song over and over and over. I was delighted that she responded like this was a top 40 song. King Crimson could have broad appeal of they wanted it.

I really love this song, but it's not really a British song, it's about half American as Adrian Belew the singer, guitarist, and Tony Levin are both from America I believe. I think it was written by Belew so....
