    OH MY GOD
i feel like i just dug my way into a gold mine
this is so weirdly nostalgic and pensive, i feel like i've heard it somewhere before but I can't at all pinpoint what it's reminding me of, so weird but so awesome in a completely indescribable and confusing way

"This one was a relative shock, but in the mirror room, the painting was different. It resembles a mountain range at dawn. Sure enough, hopping into the wall takes you into Course 17: Shimmmering Shining Peaks. I guess Snowman's Land just... doesn't exist in this weird version. Not that I'm going to complain that much. Snowman's Land is by far the most forgettable level in the "proper" game, but it also just raises the question of why the hell they cut out Jungle Jape Jinx and then added Snowman's Land.
"I'm getting offtrack, though. As always, I'll start with the music. The level has a very soft tune, with a lot of high pitched notes. You know Snowdin Town from Undertale? It kind of reminds me of that track. Again, another track I'm quite frustated at the concept that it was cut for whatever reason. Could've used more unique tracks in the original game. Plus, this one ends with one of the little jingles from the credits theme before it loops."
"Design-wise, this level's pretty damn fun. The best comparison I can give is of a snow-covered Tall Tall Mountain - interesting, TTM's painting was *also* curiously missing when I went to check. Given that SSP contains a slide, maybe this was the original version of both levels and they simply ended up splitting them? Regardless, it's much more of a "proper" mountain range than any level in the original, with multiple ravines and pathways. As a result, it's not a linear course - making it feel similar to Jungle Jape Jinx in terms of gameplay. The Snow Goombas from CCM make a return, this time including a friendly variant who tells you that you can't skip anything on the slide. Sure enough, there's death barriers if you try to do that. Apart from the slide though, none of the stars are really that hard, but damn, the slide alone might have been the reason this level was cut. It's *way* harder than the one in TTM."
"Despite that, I guess I was lured into a false sense of security by the generally relaxing atmosphere, because you can take a wild guess who decided to show up in star six again. It actually caught me off guard when the star select jingle didn't play. The star's name is another incoherent string of numbers and letters. I tried sending the name of the last "Roko Star" to a friend whose into that kind of decryption, but she couldn't really figure anything out about it. It's probably just gibberish anyways."
"Roko's model and animations are changed again. He seems even livelier than before - still within the bounds of what the Nintendo 64 can produce (I think), but something about him feels... wrong. I'm not sure what. The cold weather affects him, causing him to shiver during the chase. Unfortunately, that does *not* affect his speed. Roko is ***fast*** in this level. You have about three seconds to start running before he gives chase, and from there, you basically can't stop for anything. The star's in the same place as the slide star, except the slide is missing, forcing you to take an alternative path. As per the other Roko Stars thus far, no enemies outside of him appeared."
"I really don't know what to make of him. My brother never mentioned anything like this, and I still haven't been able to get in contact with him. I tried looking into some of Nintendo's older projects to see if maybe Roko originates from one of them, but there's just nothing. It's not really scary to me, just unusual. Everything about this game is unusual. Why does Roko only appear in seemingly random courses? Why does *nothing* in the game mention him anywhere? Why is he even *in* the game? I know I'll probably find the answer as I keep playing, but... I don't know. Something feels wrong. There's something off about Roko."
"Anyways, I should get get going. Course 18 is Wet-Dry World, and I know you're probably really interested in hearing about *that* level, but I've been slacking on college work lately. Update you guys soon."
