    There is a lot of things that got deleted from the video to make it under 20 minutes. I compared it to 2020 Luvias (TP is better in absolutely every category, including resistance and inetria), the old Stradic CI4+ 2016 and some of the other reels. But the video was just way too long and people will not click on a video that is 35 minutes long. But if u have comparison questions between any two reels you saw in this video - let me know and i will reply to all questions

      Would the TP be a better comparison to the Certate since both are aluminum frames. That would be a good comparison video.

    • @cozadeluca3045
      @cozadeluca3045 3 года назад +4

      @@Henry-xh8ec Yes and no, its hard to compare because the Twinpower still has some finesse about it and still comes in finesse sizes, where as the Certate does not. Certate is essentially an aluminium Exist in bigger sizes only, but in those size categories it is absolutely better than the new TP of which I have both in 3 different comparable sizes, its very obvious fishing both size by side that the Certate is the higher quality more refined reel with better tolerances and a feeling almost like air under retrieve, honestly the Certate feels more like a "heavy duty" vanquish than the new Twinpower does. In hand the Twin power is very nice but the in fishing performance can be improved, though for a slightly stronger UL reel is is still a really good option as you cant get a Certate in that sort of size (2500 and up only).

      good catch. I always swap these, did the same thing in the Vanquish video. I gota be more careful. I dont need to change anything in my opinion though. This reel will be better for any fishing where occasional extreme force can occur. Also i wonder if the aluminum body plays a reason why it feels so damn smooth and silent..
      what size are u looking for? Vanford will lose another 2 bearings and will have carbon body. For size 2000 Vanford will be better, but for larger sizes I think the TP will be much better and more durable

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  3 года назад +1

      you know... if i didn't have the 2019 Vanquish, i wouldn't talk about inertia or resistance in this video. It is MUCH better than the 2020 Luvias in both aspects, despite being a heavier reel. If u ever decide to get a reel with more muscle - this is it. No need for vanquish. It is actually more silent. I have a lot heavier rods than you, and i will be using it a lot, since it balances well with my rods..

    • @gman69455
      @gman69455 3 года назад

      There is almost an ounce difference in weight between your model and the comparable 2020 model. 7 ounces (200 grams) vs 6.3 ounces (180 grams). For a real that small and going to a full metal rotor that is heavier apposed to graphite on older models, that is a substantial weight saving.

    • @kennylim136
      @kennylim136 2 года назад

      Randy, only time will time how long this 20 TP will withstand the moderate use I have in store for it in coming years of panfish and light salt specie chasing, however ball bearings count aside I do believe this reel can be dubbed as "poor man's Stella" just base on materials used and smoothness compared to 14 Stella (a friend's). But the name "poor man's Stella" was dispelled when a thorough review was written by a big game enthusiast, Alan Hawk, on the older model (size 8k and above.) Since then I read Shimano has upgraded a bit with internal gearing.

    • @kennylim136
      @kennylim136 2 года назад

      @@ifishcatfish I also feel the weight difference doesn't spell out to be much because it's almost always being aboard my lightest rod, the Tict rockin' finesse or the MC crosstage 6'9" and those two are not exactly feather-weight so it balances quite well.

    Just discovered your channel. Excellent. Do you have the diameter of the spool lip between the Shimano and the Daiwa 1003? My impression is that the Daiwa has slightly larger diameter and width in the line lay. Is that correct? Thanks. By the way, I am still using Daiwa year 2007 Luvias and Presso 1003. They have beautiful bright pinging drag sound. I have a lot of fisherman ask what I am using the the drag runs. I wonder how the Presso LT and the Twinpower 2020 sound in comparison. Also, do you know if the Vanford spool is actually longer stroke than the Vanquish?

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  3 года назад

      Daiwa doesn't always have bigger spool, only the ABS spools are wider. U have to check the specs on each reel to see if they have ABS spool. Presso , Presso LTD and Theory have ABS spool. A lot of old daiwas have the ABS spool, but i have not seen any new daiwas with that spool. All LT reels have the small spool, including the new Luvias and all Daiwa Tatula versions.

    • @ifishcatfish

      Long stroke is not a big deal. And in ultralight reels casting distance is not important. Weight however IS.

    • @2musiclover534
      @2musiclover534 3 года назад

      @@ifishcatfish I appreciate hearing your thoughts and I definitely don't feel like I am debating you. With that, I note that for me, both weight AND casting distance is important. I build sub 1.2 oz UL rods (proprietary techniques and will be working on a sub 0.9 oz rod in a month or so that performs like a 6' rod.) and there are times when casting distance means catch or not catching a fish. So I want both but I don't want to pay $400 for a reel or I would have picked up the vanquish...:) I am intrigued by the 500 Vanford that comes in at 4.9 oz. That could beg ideal for ultralight braided lines which is less sensitive to spool size for casting distance.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  3 года назад

      that's fair. Actually casting distance can be important. I think for these saltwater anglers it is.. The way we fish around here is just lob it 30 feet out.. The long spool is something of a marketing gimmick though. In theory it improves the outgoing angle with the spool lip, but then shimano puts bigger spool lip than daiwa to keep the line and the advantage is all but gone. They put some number for improvement of long spool vs non long spool.. and perhaps if the spool has the same lip it will have that small improvement.. but i doubt it will have it compared to Daiwa. Daiwa just moved the lip further away, instead of increasing the stroke. Anyway, i don't think in a blind test a human can tell the difference between long stroke and regular spool. I should make one video just for that..

    I read that asymetric rotor gives an extra "30% stability". As far as I understand this is the main difference between Twin Power XD and FD.

      is there a Vanquish C2500S? If so - i would recommend it. C stands for compact, but in reality they use the body of a smaller size reel, with spool and rotor of bigger size reel. But since for panfish u don't need power, and the bigger spool really helps with casting and keeps your line less curly... I like it. 2500S can be a little big for panfishing.. even though it is very light, but just looks big and awkward
      The rod in this video is St Croix Panfish Elite. I LOVE that thing. Feels AMERICAN

      The same. They have the same gears.. TP has aluminum body which holds the gears in place under pressure.. so for saltwater ultralight fishing i recommend TP usually, just because u constantly hooks jacks and other stuff that can really run when u fish saltwater. But for freshwater i prefer the light vanquish.
      But back to your questions, you are asking about weight of lure, not fish, and lure is retrieved only with the gears, which are the same in both reels. Even then... if you want to go fish with 10 gram lure only for a weekend on some new lake - there will be no problem. But if you want a designated setup for 10g lure i would go with 2500 reel and ML power rod

    First,I will say I love your reel reviews,you are right up there with Tackle Advisors for my favorites but neither of you mention the affect the main gear shims have on the gear lash/interface. Nobody mentions the difference in these shims in /within a production run of reels. I don't know why one Stradic will have one shim and another two (for example).
    In my experience Penn over shims the main gear. Shimano ,some times.
    Just sayin,do you measure the shims?

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  3 года назад +1

      sorry, bud, i do not open expensive ultralight reels. I have opened all of my big baitcasters, even though they cost 500-600$ MSRP, but the ultralight reels... maybe i am doing something wrong, but after i open them they don't feel the same. The new reel feel is gone - like a new car smell - never to come back.
      The reel will have ever-so-tiny free play - exactly as much as in the Vanquish. In my opinion shimming that last free play will increase the resistance. It is like taking the free play on the spool on a baitcaster. If u have absolutely no free play - u have too much resistance. I know TA opens all his reels, but he has more experience than me, A LOT MORE, and he probably knows how much torque to put on the screws when he closes them. For me - the UL reels don't feel the same after opening them, and i don't mess with them until time for maintenance comes. If u hang around for 2 year, i will have to open this reel to grease it, and i will show u more

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  3 года назад

      I do, but can't comment on this reel. But on UL reels with super low resistance... it is difficult to remove free play completely without increasing resistance. On bass reels or anything else - shim it if u can

    • @fieshyfish
      @fieshyfish 11 месяцев назад

      some reels have more shims due to tolerances not always being perfect. there is three main parts to a reel when it comes to drive gear tolerance the stem body, the sideplate, and the drive gear. even CNC machined parts will never have the exact same dimensions unless extremely advanced machines are used. because of this some reels will need more shims than others to achieve the wanted tolerances.

    Like you, I buy extra handles for my reels. I dont understand why both daiwa and shimano put such short handles on their low gear ratio reels. Come on, who wants such a short handle. You get no torque when turning that short handle. The minimum should be 45mm long. I do not like these 35mm or 40mm handles. That seems to be a trend with JDM reels.

      I’m from Northern Australia and bought both in a 5000 size for light off shore chasing medium sized pelagics and reef fish.
      In my opinion the Certate lt 5000 is a slightly heavier duty reel compared to the TP 5000. Perhaps it’s the oversized main gear that achieves this. But 15 grams is a pretty big weight, so it makes no sense to even talk about resistance and inertia in your case. You would get 0 benefit from from Vanquish. How would one remove grease from the guts of a reel? Complete tear down with brake cleaner, qtips. What grease from shimano are you speaking of? The drag grease sold on Amazon? (There was only one fishing reel grease I found on Amazon). Have you tried the daiwa reel lube grease (blue), which I did use in my daiwa bg after dunking it in saltwater. People, it’s not the salt that gets you, it’s the sand!!!

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  3 года назад

      Brake cleaner works very well, but it is toxic. Also, some parts have rubber rings on them that server as a dampener (on the line lay bottom and top point) - those parts should not be touched with brake cleaner. I also use Qtips, but u have to be careful about leaving hairs on the gears.
      As for grease, i have Daiwa, Shimano, and Cal's grease, and have not settled on one. They are all great, but not sure if they are the best for UL fishing. Seems like all of them are too strong. I think only Oil is used on felt, and i actually ordered some felt oil, but i haven't tried it yet..
      The salt... it is definitely the salt. THe sand is too large to make it into the reel. The salt becomes acid dust inside your reel

    • @MAX99999
      @MAX99999 3 года назад

      i_fish I have no idea why I said brake cleaner, along those lines. Because I am in IT, typically I will use electronics cleaners and usually 99 percent alcohol with microfiber towels. Instead of qtips, I sourced these for my team, when we need to clean the thermal grease off processors. Leaves nothing behind: especially important when a Xeon gold processsor can be 4000-6000 dollars.

      The small cone shape ones are very good for holes and crevices.
      I believe the one weak point for sand is the bail mechanism, which makes sense since it is exposed. I still have to learn about sealed line roller mechanics and who does what, and when.

      I just wanted to add. If anyone wants isopropyl alcohol, buy from mouser.com and buy mg chemicals. It’s priced at msrp and it is not denatured alcohol which leaves behind elements from the denatured process. Keep in mind 99 percent is very flammable!

    Well,i like that you are direct with your ideas,but sometimes it backlashes.The sanded cork knob is the ugliest knob in the world.Just to think that it belongs to trout people is a offense.A domain legacy must not be destroyed in this regard,even for learning new things from others ultralight world.I fish many species, but a perfection in a domain,must not be disturbed,take a rod for that application. I make changes myself,sometimes it matches,but most of the times not.And from my experience you can love also trout specific rod and reels because,it is stellar.I understand that you transmit what you want in bluegill fishing,maybe the same finesse and a little bit differently look,but for god’s sake,let the purist in trout fishing be safe.Thanks and i love your videos 🎉

    If you fish for minnows any one of those 2 will be ok. But if you need a good, strong reel, for bass, pike, bonefish
    you will need a 3000 size, 8.1 ounces, medium size reel. Then, if you order TP you will have a huge surprise.
    They come only in power handle, round knob, horrible for any finesse fishing. For a Carolina rig,
    or pulling a shrimp over sand for bonefish, when you need to feel every ridge on the bottom, that winch,
    will not do it and you will scratch you head where to find a I shaped knob. Speaking from experience.

    The 2020 TP is a good reel for the coin, I 100% agree it doesnt actually feel anything like the Vanquish certainly not in UL applications, but even then it is not the best in class, not better than the Certate LT, and its not even close. Certate LT is one of the best reels ever made not just in my opinion but the opinion of all those in the know including both Tackle advisors and the infamous Alan hawk, both of which even consider it a higher level of reel than the Stella FJ. I personally have 3 comparable sizes of the TP FD and Certate and I just find the Certate is FAR smoother under load, immensely more powerful, better tolerances, a much higher level of quality, and smoother drag (better sounding than the other Daiwa "LT" reels as well but the TP has the better sounding drag of the 2 for sure). Of course these 2 are meant to be more "heavy duty" light tackle reels and not stickily for finesse, so It would be hard for you to test the Certate, but if you ever find yourself after a higher end larger reel, the 5000 size Certate LT is spectacular, a smoother lower resistance reel does not exist in this size. Good review nether the less, the TP FD is of course the much cheaper reel so it make sense that it isnt quite there with the Certate but that is absolutely fine, its good to have options and it is a beautiful reel also, though there is definite improvements that can be made in the next light tackle series of Twinpower. Cheers for the review man🎣

      Thats a lot of mambo jumbo. Tackle advisors had never touched the TP when he said how much he likes the Certate. I don't even want to argue with you one your other points, you are obviously out of your mind.

      @@ifishcatfish What? Damn man, don't even know what I said you could disagree with? Did you misinterpret what I said or something? I have both reels, I've used them extensively in every comparable body size, I said I like the TP a lot but specifically in the larger sizes (5000) the Certate is a much better tool almost like it was built to be that size, the TP has much nicer sounding drag and a more ergonomic bail trip, everywhere else the Certate is a step above it, especially in inertia and power in the 5000 size. If you want to compare the 2500 vs 2500, Certate has less inertial more power and is more durable, but the TP is slightly smoother with better tolerances, much more equal in this size. Not mumbo jumbo at all? Please go handle a 5000 Certate, not the smaller ones, just the 5000, and tell me you've ever felt a reel with less inertia? I have a Vanquish, they have far less than the Certate in smaller sizes, but the Certate 5000 the way its made has zero inertia or resistance, less than a 2500 Vanquish does(not a fair comparison but you get what im saying). Anyway I hope you understand now, nothing mumbo jumbo here, the TP is a good reel but it needs to be improved in a few areas, the inertia is extremely high, the main gear lacks durability (have already gone though 2 gear sets in my 5000xg) and in the 5000 size its not as smooth as it should be compared to the smaller models. Thats all, I hope you read this! Cheers man.
