Man Fischer's acccuracy during those days are amazing, even nowadays no one can achieve that except magnus and the GMs spend days on supercomputers. Fischer didn't even have a team.
Thank you for going over Fischer games. This one was great, your coverage was excellent. Keep up the good work. "Self-discipline is that which, next to virtue, truly and essentially raises one man above another." -- Joseph Addison, The Guardian (1713)
Its a shame I didnt know enough about chess to truly appreciate Fischer when he was playing during my youth. Thanks, Jerry for filling that gap 50 years later.
Well, I wasn't born back then so I have no choice but to learn from now with the help of engines and masters like Jerry. At least you got to experience the magic of Fischer's era first hand. Cheers!
As a relatively lousy player I never see these mating threats in the endgame. I'm looking for a discovery to win material while failing to see the more important discovery in the air. Most hacks like me would've played the discovered check and just grabbed the B4 or F7 pawn and felt great about ourselves. This video illustrates the single most important thing in chess, checkmating the opponent is the best thing you can do at any given moment. So many people worry about promoting pawns or winning material at the expense of winning on the spot. Note to self: always look for mate.
Fischer (white) maintained his initiative throughout the game even if pieces got exchanged until Black collapses..That is incredible amazing masterclass play
Qg5 only to play qxc5 on the next move looks like a mistake, but the engine shows almost perfect accuracy. That's a pretty wild sequence to play before the age of computers -- it looks like you simply wasted a tempo, but Fischer must have seen something deeper.
Love your comments and game choices. But your squares too small, See other top chess channels, eg DrMike Chess, Agadamator, etc. they all maximize square size and handle rank and file labeling bin a much smarter way

For sure! Board awareness and visualization are most important before doing any type of analysis or calculation. Cheers!

Where did Petrosian go wrong?!
