  • Featured is an instructive chess game between Bobby Fischer and Tigran Petrosian from Bled, 1961. With several early exchanges out of the Caro-Kann Defense Karpov variation, we have an almost absent opening phase. The primary focus in this game is on the endgame where Petrosian, on more than one occasion, offers a pawn in exchange for positional compensation. In each case, Fischer declines the invitation. An aesthetic final position arises out of the blue that must have come as a shock to Petrosian who was forced to resign due to an unavoidable checkmate by a discovery.
