      I almost wonder if he had beaten his demons if his music just wouldn't have been the same. That pain he went through was put into music in a way a happy person couldn't do.

      @@PikesburghI believe so, if you listen Love hate love you can understand it, it was a love song so it was not about drugs and was written before heroin addiction and he sang that with much passion. He would have sang always like he used to because he was special and put his soul in every song.

      "If I can't be my own,
      I'd feel better dead"
      I think that a certain point. Layne resigned himself to the fact that he was never going to beat H and wanted to be left alone so he could ride the wave until it hit the beach, to keep from drowning anyone else.

      nothing weird about it Kyle. Thing about Layne is that he wrote from the heart...experiences him and many of us have had and indeed still go through. There is nothing contrived about AIC...Layne lived it and wrote about it and he had something to say, unlike the crap we get these days in many cases. The part of this story that seems to be forgotten was he was hospitalized because he almost lost his arm due to an infection, I assume abscess from IV use. I remember the story and he had a female doctor from India as his Doctor at the hospital in KC that was in charge of his care. For some reason this part of the story was scrubbed from the internet but it was a well known thing years ago and that's where the rumors of missing fingers and other appendages came from.

      Yeah, but that's why life as a rock musician is the most dangerous professional there is. While I wasn't at their last show like you were, they really had some tour gaps between '92 and '96. They needed to get back on the road, likely to stay relevant and for financial reasons as well. Musicians make their money on tour, not in the recording studio. I saw them at a tiny, dirty smoky club called the Silver Dollar Saloon in Lansing, Michigan back in the summer of '91. Still one of the best gigs I have ever witnessed. Who knows how much phenomenal music AIC left on the table.

      Layne did have the best voice of the 90's. He obviously trained intensely to have the power, the presence, the ear, the range, and the smooth to raspy voice switch.
      Chris Cornell was the voice of a generation. He remained at the top of his game his entire career. He was also a dynamic powerful rangy singer. The two were very close vocally. I love them both, throw in Eddie Vedder and the sky is the limit.

      GurnakeDaSnakeMon yes, plus with Layne’s heroin and crack use only worsening through time, on top of touring, it took a huge toll on his body. I say use because addiction is more than the drug use, or gambling, or sex, etc. it’s filling a void, a problem that makes the drug abuse the tip of the iceberg. The rest of the iceberg down bellow, that’s the void to cover up, the mental and physical health. Drug use and abuse is a small symptom of a much bigger issue. Layne was a goofball, fun to be around, his wit or sense of humor was always there. But his appearance was fading by 1994, and he started losing his teeth, lack of hygiene.. Layne’s vocals were always phenomenal. He wanted out of the band but when your contractually bound to such a thing, it’s not so simple to just leave. You got insurance, cancelling shows as a result, which can go down as a lawsuit, entertainment lawyers, managers, record labels executives, a contract that you are legally bound to. He wanted to be in long term rehab. Heroin and Crack (speedball) got to the best of him. It’s got to me too. But Layne was still really professional and the fact he wouldn’t make excuses if his neck wasn’t broken he would perform. He didn’t start getting high or drunk onstage until around late 1993. But he still had one helluva voice even when he would get fucked up before performing or using enough to get by while performing

I once watched a video of him saying yeah im a junky i cant stop ..i love it too much ... And if thats the reason why you wont listen to my music then just dont listen to it ... Cause im a junky and if you let that defy me and wont listen to my music so be it ... Im gunna do dope and write music if someone doesnt listen anymore cause of it then oh well ....shit man i mean that was honest ... And so many people respected that ...the truth more rather then hide it like everything was fine ... So i believe in the end he went out just how he wanted to go out ...a Epic legend and rich as fuck and to have all that fourtune and fame and be a junky n never having to want for anything ever again ....ide say he did just fine and went out like he wanted too ... And why not ... What so wrong about that .. Till this day ...there are people who still listen to him and are wowed and moved by his voice and music and talent and ability to have n be born with such a beautiful voice ... So with that my friend im so sorry for the book i just wrote as a comment to what you wrote ... In finish i so agree with what you said and know the feeling inside ya had for such an awesome dude who i wont say died before his time i would say he left behind something so beautiful that only a handful were ever able to fullfill in life and him my friend is the TOP SHELF/ NUMERO UNO/ CHIEFE IN OFFICE ... PLAIN OL BEST THAT EVER DID IT ... PERIOD ... HE SIMPLY WAS THE BEST OF THE BEST AND LEFT BEHIND A BEAUTIFUL LEGACY THAT NOONE CAN OR WILL BE ABLE TO EVER DO AGAIN IN OUR LIFETIME ... NOR THE FUTURE CAUSE MUSIC HAS TAKEN A SHIT .. YA HAVE ALL THE WHITE KIDS RAPPING AND WANNA BE WISHING THEY WERE BLACK AND LOST ALL SENSE OF WHO THEY EVEN STAND FOR OR WERE THEY CAME FROM ...SO SAD THAT ROCK N ROLL HAS DIED ... That last live show of the original lineup was surprisingly spot on for everyone in the band. As an outsider watching that performance i think it took every strand of energy and willpower for layne to not lose grip of the microphone stand as it was keeping him upright but vocally he nailed it on all the songs. It's sad watching the aftermath of life long harcore drug use rot somebody from the inside out. Everyone had subconsciously known what the end was going to be because at that point the writing was on the wall. RIP Layne. It's probably for the best that you're somewhere else soaring with the angels because there ain't nothing good happening down here.

      Well. . . They didn't have Michael Starr. . . They had Michael Inez. A great bass player in his own right, but not the "original lineup" per se. Inez may be a better bass player, but not original to Chains. I think we all miss them. Inez played with Ozzy Osbourne most notably, but Inez played with many bands as a fill in over the years. Now Starr and Staley are dead, from heroin ultimately. Not even Dr. Drew could save Starr on a celeb rehab show. Lol. Who could see that coming? :-)

      @Jdngls 2 года назад +1

      @@gaylechristensen6285 Not to say that Mike Starr didn't die from some heavy stuff. Benzos are no joke. Kudos to you for being here still, Gayle. It was more of a comment that Inez wasn't part of the original lineup, and that now post Layne Staley, everything before his death is the original lineup. William Duvall is a pretty badass singer in his own right, but definitely not Layne. None of us can call him the original, or Mike Inez.. . Although Inez was there before Staley's death. May they (Staley and Starr) rest in peace, and hopefully AIC can come out more music in the future that does those boys justice, and keeps the living members doing what they love. :-)

    • @gaylechristensen6285
      @gaylechristensen6285 2 года назад

      @@Jdngls Absolutely. The original lineup had some serious chemistry both on and off stage. The Music Bank in Seattle pumped out some amazing singers. I just realized the other day, that is the common denominator for all of the greats, Chris Cornell, Kurt Cobain Layne, Mike Andy Wood. I lived near there, and I'm telling you, it was a crazy place. It burned down a few years ago, but I'm amazed one of those guys didn't torch it back then. P.S. sorry I made your post all about drugs. It was a very insightful, thoughtful comment.♡

He was a kind, gentle caring guy who unfortunately got mixed up in drugs-as many people from all walks of life do, It was a life taken way too soon. His music will always live on. I’m so glad Jerry Cantrell is still here, he’s another great talent and like his late friend, Layne, he’s a great person. I’m grateful he got himself sober long ago. A KISS fan at the time, who also loved Alice in Chains and was devastated by Layne's performance.
      Alice in Chains (AIC) began well but by song number 3 EVERONE watching knew there was something really wrong.
      Yeah the over 40's KISS crowd then booed and heckled AIC.
      The problem was Layne couldn't barely stand by the 5th song.
      T his guy said that he felt so bad for the other three band members. The 2 guitarists were jumping up and down and unfortunately,
      for 1996,
      resorted to way too many stereotype grunge movements from 1992 that came across as dated, desperate and lame.
