@@slinkerdeer Not really. A War Horse is a beast that could achieve pretty high speeds during combat. The whole point of a lance is that you need to be going fast for it to really hit hard, and the whole point of cavalry is to be able to move quickly to flank the enemy.
You should see the kinds of horses they used for historical knights.
Imagine if reload speed stacked infinitely, you could make a regiment of AK-47 armed dwarfs.

That's a grudgin' and dwarfs will do anything to right a grudge.
It looks to me that the individual dwarves can reach 97 speed when you adjust unit formation, but the whole unit can only move at 45 speed.
This is definitely it.
It has to do with formation, you need to set up the square formation for fastest speed movement of any unit, and it is capped at some point based on the base speed of the unit.
see Legend always does this mistake, where he orders units to move in near line formation, then he complains how slow they are :P
He unconsciously knows through experience that they do move faster but does not realize the problem.
They sometimes glitch when reforming with increase or decreased speed, this is what happened here.
Usually they slow down, but with all that boosted speed they increased speed up instead when glitching.
So if you find how they glitch and manage to do it regularly, theoretically you can utilize that 97 speed of theirs.
@@jeffvella9765 Untrue. It was the same with skaven. No matter what the unit card says, 2 doomwheels where one is buffed to amazing speed and one is not will move at about the same speed.

@@jrgenaarvik7671 those doomwheels comparison are not a formation or infantry and doomwheels type units have the same base speed and are capped at the same point, does not matter how much you buff them.
They are not the same as infantry where different infantry have different speeds and thus buffs do work better.
Doomwheels(all) should have the same capped speed because of animation, thus the doomwheels are capped quite close to the limit for it's type, so boosting it won't effect it much.

Most of that is just because it shoots fast. Almost all of the super high missile strength values (with the exception of maybe luminarcs) actually just represent super fast shooting units rather than hard hitting units.

A video on the strongest auto resolve stacks could be interesting. The main importance being cost and ease of recruitment, aka how easy it is to spam

Vampire Coast Bombers get absurdly good auto resolve when in battle they're very niche.
If this army had 14 Thunderers with 5 Engineers, they'd have more ammo in total than these 3. About 50 per unit so 700ish total, instead of the 300ish here. Also, the engineers don't seem to be buffing each other so that's a waste as well.

I think they get there full speed buff when they try to get in to the right place in there formation when they are close to there destination. Normally units gets a small speed buff (I think) when they are trying to get in formation and i guess the speed cap is temporarily disabled when that happens.

I am surprised that missile damage and speed increase doesn't affect engineers themselves. I remember that Doomstack with 5 engineers and they all had the same speed and damage.

It looks like the animation is the limiting factor when you were zoomed out they seemed to be able to move faster as it was rendering as detailed

best way to describe the diminishing returns on buff units (like master engineers) is, for this army, if you had 3 more thunderers and 3 fewer engineers, you would have 100% more thunderes, but only 80% of the enginners, so each thunderer would be ~20% less effective, but because there are twice as many of them you still have 1.6 times the dakka
and thats ignoring the fact that half the buffs dont stack past a certain point
3 guns at 100% force = 300%, 6 guns at 80% force = 480% 480>300

I like the idea of rating quirkier, more flavourful or even just whacky doom-stacks; show players that there are more ways to win a battle than the strictly most optimal one (which you've done a pretty good job of demonstrating what that looks like).

Ya, spent a little over a week on a gyrobomber doom stack submission for you and can confirm that they get pretty stupid when boosted. I felt confident enough to take on anything with that stack, bit it did have a problem with attrition as one or two units would get blown up occasionally. I never submitted the file though because I only then found out that submissions need to be on ultra unit scale and very hard battle difficulty, RIP.

The caps aren't there on purpose. CA just didnt consider a thunderer moving at 97 speed and so didn't make an animation for it.
All it takes to decimate the core of the stack is a single overcast wind of death
not gonna lie - it looks like those thunderers were firing at about 1 shot every 2 seconds
If there's rum at the destination, a dwarf can.
And if you kicked out 10 engineers, you could bring the thunderers to 6, add a pair of Irondrakes to defend the flanks, and some organ guns and flame cannons to augment the firepower. After all, they have dwarfen legs, they'll never actually be fast.
With so many engineers they should just turn into crankgunners.

Dwarf doomstacks are always the funniest imo.
It seems like they get their higher speed when they're moving into formation, so maybe with a ton of micro you could just constantly issue new move orders right in front of them to zoom them around

There is a mod that lets you build heroes without their unit cap right from the start, Okoii uses that one for his vids.
If you use that mod, you can build this army pretty much early on without any drawbacks besides the cost for those heroes.

Hardly ever play Dwarves, but that was really interesting, told me plenty of stuff I didn't know and was fun to watch.

Keep in mind that if you overcap the reload speed then you won't suffer reload penalties when low vigour.
My last Greenskin campaign I noticed I was having trouble running down routed dwarves , without engineers .
I'm more impressed by the Skyhammers 6068 Missile Strength in that army

OK here's my theory: Units have different speeds when forming up and regularly walking, the listed speed is their form up speed in this case

A auto-resolve doomstack, I'll be damned.
538th turn lol... long time to wait to see this army ready, plus facing ideal opponent like VC (no arty, no missiles), there are a lot of others opponents that would make this army quite weak and easily overwhelmed.
But that’s interesting to see creativity of players dropping crazy ideas. 😂
I did the math, and for any stack that is a spam of one kind of missile unit + master engineers + general, the best returns on ammunition is to go 5 or 6 master engineers and the rest be thunderers, so Legend was exactly right on that front. The exact ideal value is 5 1/3 engies and 13 2/3 chosen missile unit, so 5 is the better of the two, but if you graph it the difference between 5 and 6 master engineers is not noticeable. I just looked at ammo, and not missile strength, so maybe a 6th engineer becomes better when factoring that in. Keep in mind 5 to 6 is the turning point when it starts becoming worse for your overall ammo to add more engineers; your returns are already really diminished by the fourth engie.
Edit: I'm pretty sure that with at least 4 engies and the help of the general if he has red line skills that also help reload time (which I think all dwarf lords can get?) we should be able to get max rank missile units like thunderers to the minimum practical reload time. From then on we can ignore reload time affects and only look at the effect of triangulation (damage buff). This will give us the same optimization problem as with ammo and the answer will be 5 or 6, preferably 5 again. So there you have it, 5 is the ideal number of master engineers for a dwarf missile spam stack. Should be true for quarrellers and rangers as well.
Engineers are rare, so I use just as much as to get close to the hard capped reload speed of the units.
What worked best for me was:
Gyrocopter - 5 Engies
Bugmans - 4 Engies
Guns - 3 Engies
If you want to actually reach the cap, you had to add +1 Engie in that list. But I think it's not worth. The buff "Ballistics Calibration" becomes next to useless, because it can't add more reload speed then.
It looks like every Engineer has the chilling aura crafted hammer. That's how you do it! Slow them down and let your thunderers put holes in them.
