Ahara I had a woman her name was Raquel Welch. I used to write her love letters all the time. But should left my heart on for frail s*** didn't return any of my messages. Any amount not among never😊
The one female Motown group I can’t believe you haven’t reacted to yet is Martha & the Vandellas. They were the Supremes main competition, and they had some serious bangers including Jimmy Mack, Nowhere To Run, Heatwave, and Dancing In The Street.
The Marvelettes, along with The Supremes and Martha Reeves and The Vandellas formed the triad of the great Motown "girl groups". Their best songs include: "Beachwood 4-5789", "Don't Mess With Bill", "The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game", "Too Many Fish In The Sea", "Playboy".
The Beatles loved this and covered it. Also: check out, Little Eva, “Locomotion” also The Shirelles, hit record “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” written by Carol King. And The Shirelles also had a hit with “Baby It’s You” written by Burt Bacharach, and covered by big fans, The Beatles. The Shirelles also had a hit with “Boys” written by Luther Dixon, it was also covered by The Beatles and sung by the greatest, Ringo Starr on their 1963 album, “Please Please Me”.
Little Eva doing Locomotion is a real treat. And there's some great black and white footage of her doing it as well. And then follow up with Grand Funk Railroad doing their incredible cover of it.
Great reaction guys! Another group from back then you'll love is Martha Reeves and the Vandellas. Songs like Dancing In the Streets, Heatwave, Nowhere to Run, Come And Get These Memories, My Baby Loves Me and many more.
When I was a deputy sheriff, every cop thought "Bad Boys" was unique to have on their phone. Not me. I had the ring back "Nowhere to Run, Nowhere to Hide". Many people in my county had my phone number and would call all hours of the day & night to hear it. I loved it. Mark

This was at the height of the “girl groups” phenom. So many great talented women who really took over the charts in the 60s. Love Don’t Mess with Bill. This was also covered by the Beatles on their second album. The Beatles always said they were heavily influenced by Motown when they started out. Thanks for the great reactions. 👏👏🥰
The hit chart version of "My Boyfriend's Back" was done by The Angels, but The Chiffons did include a version on one of their albums. Not positive if they ever released it as a single but, if so, it didn't chart as high as The Angels. "One Fine Day" and "Sweet Talking Guy" were a couple of other big hits for The Chiffons.
You guys once asked who influenced The Beatles, here they are. This was a regular number in early Beatles performances and was covered on their first album. ✌️
The was Motown's very first number 1 single. Fun fact: Marvin Gaye played the drums on this record. He also wrote Beachwood 4-5789, their other big hit.

Ask your grandparents about the congestion around the payphone in a barracks or dorm.
The Beatles did a great swingin' cover of Please Mr. Postman. Two more of the Marvelettes best were - Forever and This Night Was Made For Love. I'd also recommend Martha Reeves & The Vandellas - Come and Get These Memories.
I saw the Marvelettes in the 1980's at an outdoor oldies show, what a good time that was! the Marvelettes and Shirelles were really the queens of girl groups before the Supremes.when the Beatles covered this song on their early albums, and other Motown and Chuck Berry songs, many young African Americans accepted the Beatles with open arms like"Well yeh, okay they like our music , they're cool." that was the vibe back then. More Motown? WHAT DOES IT TAKE (Junior Walker & The All-Stars), WHAT BECOMES OF THE BROKEN HEARTED (Jimmy Ruffin) are two of my absolute favorites. Pure soul. And the Beatles did an excellent version of Please Mr Postman. John Lennon's voice rocks, which you already know.
Wow, this reminds me of sitting on the front porch steps with my girlfriends listening to my transistor radio and singing along to the Marvelette’s, Martha Reeves and the Vandella’s, Supremes, Crystals, Chiffons, Shirelles, Ronettes, the Angels, the Exciters, Chordettes, etc. I grew up in a suburb north of Detroit so the top 40 radio stations played a lot of Motown. My sisters and I used to close the kitchen doors and play the radio while we washed, dried and put away the dishes after dinner. My dad used to ask us to keep it down but my mom pointed out it was better to hear us singing than arguing. 😉
Thank you! This is one of my favorite recordings from the "girl group sound" of the early '60s. You also should consider reacting to The Shirelles' "Soldier Boy," The Angels' "My Boyfriend's Back" and The Crystals' "Then He Kissed Me."
Wonderful reaction to a classic Motown group and song - The Marvelettes "Please Mr. Postman". Danced to this one many times back in the day. Deep track trivia: the drummer on this track is none other than the late great Marvin Gaye! Truth stranger than fiction. Rock on Jay and Amber. Peace out.
Yes, you are correct. I caught that fact also. I was going to post it, but decided to see if anybody else already did and found your comment first. If anyone has seen a photo of Diana Ross past or present, her face hasn't changed at all.

I loved Motown, from Michigan. I lived 50 miles north of Detroit & I enjoyed all the music they produced, starting from 1958 at 9 yrs old. It was a gift having such great music from 1950’s - 1980’s in my life. Thank you, Jay & Amber for playing these songs that take me back to memories of old…it’s surely a gift. 👍🎼🎵🎶👏👏👏♥️♥️🌹
"Shop Around" was a huge hit and the first Motown million seller (in 1960). But it only peaked at #2 Pop on Billboard. It was also #1 R&B. (It did reach #1 on the less prestigious Cashbox chart.) The cover by The Captain & Tennille in 1976 was a big hit too. Meanwhile, "Please Mr. Postman" has always been considered the first #1 Pop (Hot 100 via Billboard) hit for Motown. It also reached #1 on the R&B chart.
One of my all time faves...so sweet and tender and innocent🥲 I love how the switch it up with different improvisations so it never becomes repititive while still giving the imression of simplicity. Very clever. No wonder there are so many covers, my favorite being The Beatles with John Lennon singing lead.
Not only snail-mail! If you wanted to make or receive a phone call you had to be home! (and share the phone with the rest of the family... no privacy!) Being on time was more important in those days because once you left the house you couldn't call ahead to say you were running late! That's the way things were when I was growing up. My first cell phone was a small suitcase! And expensive!!! Love y'all's reactions!
@richarddennis4785 I totally forgot about rotary phones! In 1979 I was working for Wells Fargo as an auto loan bill collector. We still had rotary phones then! I think they got upgraded to touchtone soon after I started.
This was Motown’s first number one on Billboard’s Hot 100. These girls and this song kept Berry Gordy and Motown from going bankrupt. They paved the way for Martha Reeves & the Vandellas and Diana Ross & the Supremes. Two of my Motown favorites for you guys: (Love is like a) Heatwave by Martha & the Vandellas The Happening by The Supremes You two are amazing at what you do! Thanks!!!
You may want to check out the first song ever to hit #1 in the U.S. by an all black girl group. Released in late 1960, "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" by The Shirelles attained that honor in early 1961.
Hi Amber. Here is a suggestion for you whenever you have one of your female Fridays. There was another girl group who also came out of the 60s. idk if you are familiar with these girls but they were called The Ikettes. They were a trio (sometimes quartet) of female backing vocalists for the Ike & Tina Turner Revue. Despite their origins, the Ikettes became successful artists in their own right. In the 1960s they had hits such as "I'm Blue (The Gong-Gong Song)" and "Peaches 'N' Cream". I always luv your guys' reactions. Maybe that is one of the reasons I became a subscriber. You guys are the best.
Resounding yes to the others suggesting Martha Reeves and the Vandellas! Dancing In The Streets was the epitome of the summertime feel good make you get up and dance song. It was covered 20 years later by Mick Jagger and David Bowie and got you up dancing again. A true feel good classic. So much wonderful music came from Motown that had that uniquely American sound.
Hey ?! Another thing that took long was getting your pictures developed and getting them back!! We’d have to finish up a whole roll of film and then take it in to be developed, the film got sent out to a company and then we’d have to go pick them up in a week or so at the place we dropped them off at!!! Talk about patience!!

The Supremes: I Hear A Symphony (1 of my personal favorite songs ever) My World Is Empty Without You Love Is Like A Itching In My Heart You keep me hanging on The Temptations Get Ready The Girls Alright With Me Smokey Robinson & The Miracles: Oooh Baby Baby Goin to a Go-Go Martha & The vandellas Heatwave Dancing In The Strret Mary Wells My Guy Marvin Gaye & Tammy Terrell Ain't No Mountain High Enough You're All I Need To Get By The Marvellettes The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game Beachwood 45789 Too Many Fish In The Sea Don't Mess With Bill Gladys Knight & The Pips I Heard It Through The Grapevine The Supremes & The Temptations Ed Sullian show medley (PHENOMENAL PERFRORMANCE FROM BOTH GROUPS!) I'm Gonna Make You Love me
More Motown? I don't think you've done "Bernadette" by The Four Tops. When Levi Stubbs screams Bernadette at the end it'll tear your heart out. "Standing In The Shadow Of Love" is another great one. The Beatles did a fun cover of "Postman" too.
In the early 60’s, my sister’s boyfriend went to Vietnam. She would play this song on her record player as she patiently waited for his letters. I’ve yet to hear anyone react to Little Anthony and The Imperials - Hurt So Bad (1964). I think you both would enjoy his singing and sentiment.
The Marvelettes were Great. Please listen to more of their music like: Don't Mess With Bill, My Baby Must Be A Magician, The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game. Also another girl group that was very popular was Martha and The Vandellas. Some of their songs were My Baby Loves Me, Come And Get These Memories, What Am I Going To Do Without Your Love. All these songs are Great and you guys will enjoy them!
Years ago we veterans were called up on stage at a concert featuring the Marvlettes, the Shirelles , the Coasters, and the Platters. I got to dance with Shirley Ellis when they sang their hit Soldier Boy. Great memory.
Isn't the thumbnail The Supremes? I swear the woman to the far right is Diana Ross. I might be wrong though. Edit: I see the thumbnail is changed now. No hate or rudeness was intended, I was just sure it was the Supremes in the original thumbnail because I recognised Diana Ross. But I can honestly see how it'd be easy to confuse the two female groups in the pictures because both pictures are black and white and the styles of the women ie clothing and hair are very similar in both pictures! Love your reactions Jay and Amber =)
You should check out Brenton Wood, I think you’d really like him. “I Like The Way You Love Me” “Darlin” “Gimme A Little Sign” “Baby You Got It” “I think you’ve got your fools mixed up” “Oogum Boogum Song”….so many good songs.
Wow, I feel old, cause this was my childhood , I remember all these songs playing on am radio( 1070 WDIA and 1340 WLOK in Memphis ) all day and night, the music always made people feel good even in turbulent times back then.
The Marvelettes...and yet the picture you used on your thumbnail was a picture of the Supremes with, left to right, Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson and Diana Ross.
" SATURDAY LOVE " by CHERELLE 1980s MOTOWN and R&B S❤️U L warm soft soulful vocals by CHERELLE 80s female artist / fantastic intro guaranteed you'll love it. Classic 1980s
This 1961 song was the very FIRST Motown song to hit #1 on Billboard! And MARVIN GAYE played drums on it!😯 This song was covered by The Beatles in 1963, and The Carpenters in 1974, and many others. You should also give those covers a listen!
Good stuff. Snail mail ruled! Nice that the letters were kept, Amber, very nice.Teen-aged angst. Not Motown but great group is The Crystals- "Uptown" or "He's A Rebel". Nice reaction. Thanks.
Maybe MA Yb E maybe tomorrow, maybe tomorrow. Oh yeah, that's a classic Dyna Stanley. Michael Jackson, michael jackson was doing that as a kid. Michael sounds good on a dinosaur
Jacksonville, Jackson, but that was when Michael was a kid I was still in. Maybe, maybe maybe tomorrow alright, that's real or I thought. Maybe tomorrow i'm not wha let's do it do it wrap one time
The music that Michael Jackson was stillen when I was a kid was excellent, the Jackson 5 music. They did all motown songs, that's what the Jackson father's about, oh Tommy motown, so you can do a Jackson 5 song and it's called big guy. I'm sorry that's going to make it. You got that right? It's gonna do it.
Are not very Gordy any of his stuff. Very white diamond Ross audit on all that stuff. Especially the old people never gets at the oath. Old motown old country oh rock and roll. Oh, Tommy stuff, that's where it's started. I swear it was high up. That's real.
Also see "Foolish Little Girl" by the Shirelles. The Girl Group sound of the early 1960s was spectacular, and massive. To this day you can order numerous box sets; I have a few. 😊
The first billboard #1 hit for motown on the pop charts, 1961. Beatles cover in 1963, was great and then the Carpenters hit #1 on Billboards pop charts in 1975.
What a Great Old Tune . I can remember all the girls dancing a sort of LINE DANCE ( The Cha Cha ) to this song . This song was also covered and released by the Beatles later in the 1960's .
In the 80s I lived in a small town. A lot of things I wanted were just a 5 hour drive away at the nearest big city. Ordering stuff to come in the mail, "Please allow 6-8 weeks for delivery." So if you did order something from a catalog you had forgotten what you ordered by the time it arrived. Of course that made getting it more fun on the day it came.
The Beatles did a great cover of this in their early years. Speaking of the Beatles. Why don't you guys react to their new song Now & Then. It's very emotional heartfelt beautiful song & they have a great video out of it. It would be great to see you guys react to it. Don't be surprised if you cry.
The Beatles recorded a smoking cover of this song, with John killing the lead vocals. John liked to talk about the first generation of rock’n’roll - Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Buddy Holly and of course Elvis - but truth is The Beatles were equally influenced by Motown and a lot of soul artists, like Ray Charles and many others. As evidenced not just by their songwriting, but by their choice of covers.
The Marvelettes, had many hits some which I recommend are: "Danger Heartbreak Dead Ahead", "When You're Young and In Love", "I'll Keep Holding On" "The Hunter Gets Captured by The Game", "Because I Love Him", "Too Many Fish in The Sea", "Beachwood 4-5789", "Don't Mess with Bill". There are many more but these are good ones to start with.

Great and the Carpenters did a sweet cover.
I was10 years old when the Carpenters released this cover. Loved it! Got the 45 and danced a routine. This is Jean on my husband's YT acct. Lol
@@markferone4653we had the 45too when I was little
The first #1 hit for Motown. Covered famously by the early Beatles and taken to #1 again in 1975 by the Carpenters.
That's what I was about to say. You beat me to it! LOL😅
Carpenters are my favorite version but only because I love Karen so much that she is whose voice I like to hear sing.
@Walter. For some reason, I thought Shop Around was Motown's first number 1 hit. 🤔
@@walterpanovs Oh ok, thanks for filling me in. 😊
The Ronettes were not a Motown group. They were a part of Phil Spector's wall of sound.
One of my all time faves...so sweet and tender and innocent🥲
I love how the switch it up with different improvisations so it never becomes repititive while still giving the imression of simplicity.
Oh and the party lines. Sharing phone lines. It seems unreal now.
@@jhood758 I forgot about those! Also no personal computers, no internet, social media was church on Sunday morning!
Rotor phones and party lines!
@@jhood758We often had to wait while old lady neighbors would spend their time gossiping….
@richarddennis4785 I totally forgot about rotary phones! In 1979 I was working for Wells Fargo as an auto loan bill collector. We still had rotary phones then! I think they got upgraded to touchtone soon after I started.
The Beatles made the charts ,with this song also..🎸🎶
Covered no less by The Beatles -on their second studio album With the Beatles - giving it incredible energy. Give it a listen.
"The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game" is their best song.
The Beatles paid homage to them by doing this song. And they did it great.
First #1 hit for Motown...November 1961...
This was Motown’s first number one on Billboard’s Hot 100. These girls and this song kept Berry Gordy and Motown from going bankrupt. They paved the way for Martha Reeves & the Vandellas and Diana Ross & the Supremes.
Two of my Motown favorites for you guys:
(Love is like a) Heatwave by Martha & the Vandellas
The Happening by The Supremes
You two are amazing at what you do! Thanks!!!
You may want to check out the first song ever to hit #1 in the U.S. by an all black girl group. Released in late 1960, "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" by The Shirelles attained that honor in early 1961.
p.s. Carole King wrote it. I believe you've already reacted to her own version about 10 years later.
These women were so good, they influenced The Beatles, who famously covered this song.❤
Please react to -1.The Clovers: Love Potion Number 9 (1959) -2.The Coasters: Poison Ivy (1959) -3.Lloyd Price: Stagger Lee (1958) -4.The Robins: Smokey Joe's Cafe (1955) -5.Jody Reynolds: Endless Sleep (1957) -6.Ray Peterson: Tell Laura I Love Her (1960) -Thanks!!!
Some good ones for sure!
I use to stop by the resterrant on my home from school stop and put a quarter in the jukebox to listen to these loldies❤❤😂😂🎉🎉
In 1973 my boyfriend was in the service and I would listen to this song and Soldier Boy by the Shirelles.
🥹
I understand, I was Deployed Overseas during the 70's for 2 years!! I was only a teenager!! Letters and collect calls meant everything to us!🇺🇲hooah💪
So sweet that your mom has kept all the letters that your dad wrote to her!!💕
Omg, one of my favorite songs from the 60’s, loved being a teeny bopper! 😂 thank you guy’s for playing this song…back to the 60’s tonight! 🎼🎵🎶👏👏👏♥️♥️
I Can Play This Song Over & Over That's How Much I Love This Great Classic Song 👍 & Nice Reaction Guy's
The Flirtations......"Nothing But A Heartache" 60's girl group at it's best
Growing up in England, I first heard this by the Beatles.
Lennon sang this one and Smokey Robinson's 'You Really Got a Hold On Me'. Motown is always fertile ground.
Ah Motown...cut my teeth on motown before them Beatles came along in 1964. Listened to motown on AM radio CKLW out of Detroit. Awesome!
My Motown recommendations (Also I JUST started working at the Motown Museuem here in Detroit so I get to see in be in the theater where some of my favorite songs ever recorded were recorded! Come to Detroit & check us out!)
The Supremes:
I Hear A Symphony (1 of my personal favorite songs ever)
My World Is Empty Without You
Love Is Like A Itching In My Heart
You keep me hanging on
The Temptations
Get Ready
The Girls Alright With Me
Smokey Robinson & The Miracles:
Oooh Baby Baby
Goin to a Go-Go
Martha & The vandellas
Heatwave

Marvin Gaye & Tammy Terrell
Ain't No Mountain High Enough
You're All I Need To Get By
The Marvellettes
The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game
Beachwood 45789
Too Many Fish In The Sea
Don't Mess With Bill
Gladys Knight & The Pips
I Heard It Through The Grapevine
The Supremes & The Temptations
Ed Sullian show medley (PHENOMENAL PERFRORMANCE FROM BOTH GROUPS!)
I'm Gonna Make You Love me
The first Motown #1. The Beatles cover with John on vocals is great as well.
This was the very first Motown single to go to #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart...Dec., 1961.
More Motown? I don't think you've done "Bernadette" by The Four Tops. When Levi Stubbs screams Bernadette at the end it'll tear your heart out. "Standing In The Shadow Of Love" is another great one. The Beatles did a fun cover of "Postman" too.
Love this group. Beautiful ladies, beautiful voices. Thx for this. Great reaction.
Covered brilliantly by the Carpenters
Ah, you stolled my comment. Lol. But really their rendition is great isn't it.
Covered decently by the Beatles.
I also liked the Beatles version as well as the Carpenters.
The Carpenters also covered The Marvelettes' "Beachwood 4-5789".
Carpenters version is different
Love the girl group era! Don't miss out on The Chiffons, The Shirelles, The Shangri-la's, The Ronnettes and SO MANY more!! ❤
When I first heard the song "Tears On My Pillow" by Little Anthony & the Imperials, I thought it was a woman singing. 😀
David Lee Roth just like living in paradise you will love love the video
The Marvelettes were Great. Please listen to more of their music like: Don't Mess With Bill, My Baby Must Be A Magician, The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game. Also another girl group that was very popular was Martha and The Vandellas. Some of their songs were My Baby Loves Me, Come And Get These Memories, What Am I Going To Do Without Your Love. All these songs are Great and you guys will enjoy them!
60 girl groups! A very long list of great groups & songs. The Crystals "Chapel of Love" is another must listen
Speaking of Girl Groups, I'd like to see them react to Remember Walking In The Sand by the Shangri-las. 😊
One of the more underrated Motown groups. Personally I like them more than The Supremes. Nice deep dive with this group!
The marvelous Marvelettes! Motown in it's early years. This song was so great, that the Fab Four covered it. Love the early sixties!
Thanks.
A stone cold Motown classic. When You're Young And In Love is also a classic by these girls.
The Marvelettes were validated by the fact The Beatles covered this song, and didn’t change a thing.
That's a good one! I had forgotten about that song. 😉
There was a great Girl Group with the Motown sound called The Dixie Cups. They were from New Orleans and their big 1964 hit was “Chapel of Love”.
The Beatles and The Carpenters do stellar covers of this.
The first billboard #1 hit for motown on the pop charts, 1961. Beatles cover in 1963, was great and then the Carpenters hit #1 on Billboards pop charts in 1975.
Ronnettes are from Phil Spectors studio
What a Great Old Tune . I can remember all the girls dancing a sort of LINE DANCE ( The Cha Cha ) to this song . This song was also covered and released by the Beatles later in the 1960's .
All i can say is absolutely beautiful a true classic that can be listened to forever, pure magic, i wish I could have met the marveletts
Covered brilliantly by the Beatles! 😉👍
The Beatles and the Carpenters covered this song.
❤ YES THE MARVELETTES BIG IN THE 1960'S YES MOTOWN 🎶 🎵 💃🎙 🎤 🎼 YES HAPPY TIMES 🌝🥳 🎵 HAPPY 🌝 😄 ...K.R.O...
The Marvelettes, had many hits some which I recommend are:
"Danger Heartbreak Dead Ahead",
"When You're Young and In Love",
"I'll Keep Holding On"
"The Hunter Gets Captured by The Game",
"Because I Love Him",
"Too Many Fish in The Sea",
"Beachwood 4-5789",
"Don't Mess with Bill".
There are many more but these are good ones to start with.
big hit for the beatles with john lennon on lead vocals
