    I found an easier way than the easy way outline here. Starting from the centre and working your way out can result in a coil that is tighter in one part than another and not quite round at the finish. I found it better to find something round or cut a circle with a router jig into some scrap MDF and use it to work from the outside to the centre. Because the wire wants to spring outward, it naturally hugs the outer walls of my form holding a perfect shape with equal tension, then I glue it. If making a flat coil with double wire it helps for the wire to be warm. For making the hot glue set fast I use a small disposable propane cooker can (the one about the size of a spray can) and then I take the nozzle from a WD-40 which fits the gas bottle and squirt the gas onto the hot glue. liquified gases boil as they evaporates and chill to something like minus 50C so the hot glue freezes instantly. Incidentally this also how to remove hot glue. It cracks when its cold like this and easily removed from the glued thing. And also why its junk in sub zero climates.

      but how do you make the jig turn? I always turn my coil when I'm rolling it. I guess there is a fix for that.
      and freezing hot glue, yeah must be faster. but its not that slow anyways.
      I wonder if it remains strong when shocked like that.

Re turning it, the last one I made, I took another piece of scrap MDF and cut a square (the same size that the circle form was cut out of), then laid down some paper to glue the coil to, then the circle I cut with the router jig on top of the paper, then bang in a screw in each corner, then just spin it as you go. A few dabs of hot glue, and then I didn't mention previously, but my current fave is to squirt super glue (cyanoacrylate) on my coil and then dust it with sodium bicarbonate and rub it into the glue and push it between the windings. It sets like rock in seconds. Unscrew it all and you have your coil on a nice square piece of paper. Or if I want to test before glue I use blue painters tape and stick together. Then I can recycle the wire easily if things don't work out right.

    I made my first bifilar pancake coil today. I made two actually & connected them up to a joule thief.... I much prefer your method of using speaker wire. I used two separate insulated wires from separate spools & wound them together side by side onto a DVD disc & used the glue gun to fix them together... I've wound different types of coils but never pancake till now... great video..

      @@MasterIvo that gave me an idea, it makes it rigid and can be bolted thru the middle with a bolt. Or zip tie? Should it be insulated from each other, meaning will it short out the plates? I'm thinking as this is magnet maybe it will add the two and gain from each other?
      I'd like to use it for 12 volts and hho in car to aid hho production or in other words to reduce power use?
      I have such pans or baking sheets that can be gotten from dollar store

    According to Tesla's patent he mentioned he wound the coil to give the greatest potential difference between the windings. In order for that to occur the windings should be flat not stacked as in the diagram in the patent. By winding it the way you have shown will change the characteristic of Tesla's original and will give different results.

      The "different results" are the frequency for self resonance -- yes. If the frequency is LOW ... then you don't get the Tesla benefit.

      @@nicholasjames4145 A coil really has resistance, capacitance and inductance. It is not just inductance. The patent idea is to influence the capacitance too by keeping the windings separated to the specific distance that will give the capacitance wanted. Separate the wires too much, and capacitance approaches zero. Wires that are closer have a stronger field strength between them. This is either wanted, or not wanted depending on your goal. In the early days of radio, people went to winding coils various ways such as basket weave, honeycomb, etc. A radio person would talk about the Q value for the coil.

      I'm trying to make a pemf device for health and such and I have a feeling this coil might be the way but I'm not sure the best uses of this coil.

    You can also use speaker wire to wind a bifilar coil onto a spool as well. It's very easy to do and if it's wound onto a iron bolt you then have a bifilar with a iron core in it to make it even stronger.

      indeed you can. keep in mind a iron core won't work if you want to make the coil resonant (iron isn't fast enough, use ferrite). but as an electromagnet its perfect.

    Excellent Video!! Tell me, as I build a lot of crystal radios and I use air capacitors for tuning, would their be any advantage for me to use the bifilar coil as an antenna source instead of an air coil?

      my intuition says yes. Phi ratio coils, but haven't been able to explain it yet.
      More wraps is more inductance and capacitance. but thin wire also has more resistance.

    I have just ran across your channel, discussions, and have subscribed.
    Great stuff and I have a lot to learning, to do, to catch up with you guys.
    I have the following questions and ideas that come to mind. I am wondering
    if either of you have tried or considered? I think that I will try some of my ideas
    if you haven't already tried them.
    1: Trifiler 3 windings, connected outside to inside next level up.
    2: 6 windings, connected outside to inside next level up.
    3: 9 windings, connected outside to inside next level up.
    4: 12 windings, connected outside to inside next level up.
    5: Then 6 conductors 2 coils Level 1,2,3 and 4,5,6
    6: Then 6 conductors 2 coils Level 1,3,5 and 2,4,6
    7: Then 6 conductors 3 coils Level 1,2 and 3,4, and 5,6
    8: Then 6 conductors 3 coils Level 1,4 and 2,5 and 3,6
    This could be extended for 9 and 12 conductors easily by having all the inner ends and
    outer ends terminated in double screw terminal connectors. Thereby allowing testing in many
    different configurations and options quickly and easily.
    Resonance could easily be added by finding it on one coil and reproduced it on other
    levels easily by replicating the values since the coils would be symmetrically similar.
    I am also wondering about coil diameters of 3, 6, 9, and 12 inches making a big difference.
    Also changing the dielectric properties between similarly constructed coils by different
    materials.
    I am planning on building a number of these configurations for my own learnings.
    Any thoughts or ideas that either of you may have would greatly appreciated and helpful.
    Lastly any thoughts and ideas about testing the different configurations.

      Its about inductance (nr of turns) capacitance (voltage difference, plate/wire area and distance between them) and (wire) resistance.
      keep the resistance low, and the rest as high as possible.
      then the main thing is negative voltage impulses. Sudden quick changes in voltage difference over the coil.

    Thank you. I was wondering if I could do that. I'm also wondering if it would work winding the speaker wire when it's laying flat. I realize it would be tougher to do, but just would the result be the same.
    Another thing is that I would like a closer look at your connections with the two coils together.
    I looked again, and at time point 5:21 I think I see that the thing is to check for continuity and connect one outside lead to the non-continuous inside lead. Does that sound about right?

      that sounds right Bruce.
      you would end up with the original patent 512340 design. But to succeed the 2 wires would first need to be separated. flat winding with 2 connected wires won't work.

    It's a Casimir Effect Universe. Space and Counterspace are the plates, the Inertial plane attracts and repels the plates. Like your bifiler coils.

I liked, when you put the two coils together, from the middle of the coil. Making a positive and negative side of the coil. Perturbating one side of the coil to resonate the magnet-like coil. Are your winding phi:1. I follow Ken Wheeler. Like your bi-filar coils, wouldn't double wire coils with different spacing between the wires change the outcome. Like, Tesla's induction coil, with capacitance between the wires resonating.
      Does that mean you are Dutch? I thought Russian, I'm American.

      @@gyro5d Spacing influences capacitance, so it influences the dielectric field strength of the windings, voltage difference does the same.

    If you used flat 4-core telephone cable instead of 2-core speaker wire, you could easily (and cheaply) make a tetrafilar tesla coil: as Tesla says in the US512340 Patent, " Following out this principle, I may wind any given coil either in whole or in part, not only in the specific manner herein illustrated, but also in a great variety of ways..."
    It would be interesting to see if there are power gains or other effects to be had using modern cables that Tesla did not have access to in his time.

      with 4 core's side by side, labeled 1 2 3 4, connecting them in series, 2 to 4 to 1 to 3 with 2 being positive and 3 being negative, gives the biggest voltage difference between the windings, and therefor it can store the most energy in its dielectric field.

    Why can you wind the coil that way when bifilar pancake windings are suposed to rely on the capacitance between winding sections to do capacitor-less, in-coil, power factor correction?

    The geometry would be different with wires wound this way (much easier, I agree) than lying flat side by side, would it not? Has anyone tested a pancake bifiler with this geometry to test if there is any difference? I would suspect that there would have to be considering how the magnetic fields would present themselves over such different geometries. Any thoughts?

      Gerard Morin did this with a roll of speaker wire straight from the shop still zip tied together, still in the packet like a big thick doughnut. He took one of the centre wires and joined it to the other outer wire. Then he connected a big light bulb to it and dropped the coil on an induction cooktop. He reckons it gave off way more watts of light and heat than the cook top was drawing. I saw Al Throckmorton do this on a teslatech video here on youtube with a flat coil connected to a huge resister bank, like 5000 watts and the cooktop was only pulling 900watts. So maybe depending on your application its not so fussy? But high frequency was important.

    It seems to me that you don't get the benefit if NOT having capacitance. The self resonance of this coil must be a lower frequency because of the capacitance between the turns of wires on the same plane, and again on the 2nd plane.

      the capacity between the 2 planes (2 windings of the bifilar coil) is charged up to higher value, by the increased voltage difference between the 2 planes (2 windings).
      the voltage is 1/2 the supply voltage which can be several hundred voltage when resonant.
      the capacitance between the turns of the wires on the same plane does not have this high voltage difference so the charge there is much less.
      (charge is related to voltage squared)

      yes, but a dual resonant system has 2 resonant frequencies. the lower is TEM the higher one is LMD.
      LMD (longitudinal magneto dielectric) has an increase of resonant energy

    what do you think of flat speaker wire for the same use? i managed to find a really cheap wire that has has a large surface area on the top and bottom wire.

      think about this: surface area is good for capacity, more windings is good for inductance.
      So I would say, split the 2 wires up, and make a single layer winding with the 2 cables next to each other, like the bifilar coil patent 512340

    Although your coil will have an increased coil-to-coil capacitance, it is equivalent to two single-wound coils wired in a particular way. That is to say, that you do not decrease the self-inductance of each individual coil by this method. Perhaps you could create a bifilar coil with speaker wire if you wrapped it up the surface of a cone or cylinder, but then it wouldn't be the planar coil which I think was your goal.

      yes coil to coil capacitance, but its about the increased voltage difference between its 2 windings. half of the supplied voltage is between the windings.

      I agree that there is a voltage potential between the windings, but I think that this is a fundamentally different coil to what Nikola described in his patent.
      In a planar bifilar coil (as opposed to a stacked-series-coil-capacitor as you have built), there should be an induction from each successive turn on filaments A-B such that the shortest dielectric path to the center of the coil is radial without generating a counter-emf.
      In the stacked example, there appears to be no direct path as such for the filament in the bottom coil experiencing an electrostatic potential to dissipate this through to the next filament on the top coil.

    Thank you, great video. Did you try put 2 bifilar Tesla coil (in series connection) in the outside fluctuating magnetic field, perhaps? Maybe you know how the electrostatic field influence at the formation of electromagnetic field?

    I wondered how much difference in resistance in ohms between your primary winding and your secondary of the bifilar coil must one have to enter in resonance the proportion to reach the 1/4 of wave. Must the diameter of the center of the primary winding it have a precise measurement or any diameter to get the bargain little? Did I also wonder if the electronic circuit of a plate with induction could make oscillate entered in resonance a two-wire reel? Afflicted my stupid questions I do not have large studies scientist. :) Congratulation for your simple explanations which make it possible to seize the concept of what you experienced and large a thank you for your humanity you are somebody of good who want to help his next without growing rich on the back by people Thank you enormously by this beautiful act by faith. :)

      Thank you Bruno Marier, I always aim to keep the resistance as low as possible, as resistance destroys the resonance by producing heat. And remember, there are no stupid questions, only stupid people who don't ask questions.

      Thus if I understood well to have a bifilar coil which resounds extremely one must use wire of announcer of larger diameter example of the 16 awg which gives a smaller resistance instead of 22 awg which gives more resistance in ohms considering the larger length of copper.
      Does the secondary winding of the bifilar coil have to be same length of wire as that of the primary winding or is the ration of proportion of how much between the two?

      thank you for translating. Yes thicker wire is better, not only for less resistance, but it also increases the capacitance due to more "plate" area between the windings.

      I find it best to use equal coils for primary and secondary, but you can use a primary with less windings.

      yes works with pemf generator (keep an eye on the current maximum) , This was 0.75mm2, I now work with 1.5mm2 and 2.5mm2

    Great. Did you test that coil connected with the magnetic fields oposing each other? I mean the end of one coil connected to the other coil but that other coil making the oposite way? One clockwise, the orher in oposing clockwise

      red inner to "white" outer. This way the 2 windings (red and white) of the bifilar coil are series connected.

    As an Amateur Radio enthusiast, this concept of bifilar coil has my mind spinning, wondering how this would act in regards to RF energy. Could it be usable as a tuning circuit (i.e.-matching network) for an antenna. Have you explored this idea?

Its like 45 pages, but it talks about Teslas Magnifying Transmitter, and his system for Wireless Energy, and HOW it works, and WHY its not OTH transverse-electromagnetic waves, or radio waves, but another modality of energy that has a very limited amount of academic acknowledgement, and even the work that IS out there, by folks like Master Ivo, Eric Dollard, Dale Pond, and others, is still just scratching the surface. There is A LOT that can/could be done when the knowledge of SKILLFULLY and finely engineering systems based on these other types of electric/etheric wave-fields/impulses can be done with ease and impunity. I do truly believe, as long as the INFORMATION is kept opensource and is TRIED to be understood by those interested or in need of it, that this information and the Laws and abilities that will be learned and capable of, will change this world as we know it, totally and completely.

    Master evo is there a positive and a negative side or energy radiating on the Bifiliar coil? If so how would i know which side is megative?

      Yes there is. It depends on the direction of rotation from negative to positve voltage. This creates a centrifugal, or centripetal vortex, one is sucking in, the other is pushing out (aka positive /negative). You can check it with DC voltage and a compass. connect and look at one side of the coil, follow the windings from negative to positve DC voltage, and check with a compass if the field is north or south. North pushes out, and south pulls in, as far as I understand it.

    What kind of coil would this be called?...
    Take a single length of wire , keep it all flat to tho table, pinch the center of the wire and keep twisting in the same direction, bringing the ends to the center uniformly. What would that be called? If you start from one end and trace it till you get to the other end, you will notice there is a clockwise and counterclockwise nested inside each other.
    So, its one electrode but in regards to electron spin, from the radius out its like alternating wraps of positive and negative electrodes. Keeping the wire bare with an even gap/spacing, put that into water with electrolyte, as long as the entire length of wire is not the path of least resistance, you will have an HHO cell that is more efficient because of what the fields are doing!

    Another great video! So...hmmm....what is the difference between winding speaker wire vertically vs. horizontally into a bifilar coil...other then the fact that it is easier to do vertically? And why in the patent 512340 would Tesla provide the drawing in a horizontally wound fashion?
    First off, the dielectric field between two conductors with a difference in potential is between the wires, and zero in space outside of the wires.
    Now in the horizontally wound conductors (Litz wires), as the coil is wound each wire is against the next wire and the one before, or in other words there is 2 dielectric fields for each wire (180 degrees in either direction). This is in fact also the way most "rolled" up capacitors are made and does impact the final magnitude of the capacitance of the coil (increased).
    Now in Vertically wound conductors you lose the extra capacitance affect of "each wire is against the next wire and the one before".
    It would be interesting, using the same amount of speaker wire and creating a horizontal winding and then a vertical winding and compare the capacitance between the two (which should be different due to the discussion above).
    Now then, does all of this really matter? One of Tesla's purposes of inventing the bifilar coil was to do away with the need of expensive external capacitors matched to the inductance of the coil for use in resonant circuits. Certainly, either coil serves this purpose, albeit with different energy storage in the dielectric field between conductors, for a chosen vertical or horizontally wound coil.
    Now talking magnetic field. Since the currents are all running in the same direction in the series connected sections of both the vertical and horizontally made bifilar coils, then the magnetic fields should line up in the center hole of each. extending outwards close to the coil surfaces. There should be a different inductance between the two coils as the vertically wound option increases mutual inductance between neighboring wires.

      Maybe Tesla used the drawing because it was the best way to explain (visually) the series windings. Although many people (including me) have to look twice before they see the coils are not counter rotating.
      Related to the magnetic fields/increased mutual inductance. I agree. Think what this does when you stack several of these coils.
      indeed now per wire there is one dielectric field to another winding (with high voltage difference). I hadn't thought about that yet!
      That explains why today when I tested my circuit (it works!) the resonant frequency was 1/2 of what I expected.

I came across a video on YT where the person was generating energy / current by running a neodymium magnets over the coil in a N/S configuration. However they did not show how the coil was wrapped as it was wrapped in black tape.
      The reason for me asking Horizontal or vertical was to try and accomplish the same thing using the closest best possible winding. Here is the YT link.

      smaller area but thicker coil might need stronger magnets.
      both work with magnets. But I don't work with magnets, I don't find it interesting.

    Close, but not quite. A capacitor still works if there is a vacuum between the plates, with no dielectric material. In science and electrical engineering, a dielectric is an insulator between the plates of a capacitor or the turns of an inductor.
    The energy is stored in the electric (dielectric) field, not in the dielectric material itself. A simple capacitor consists of two metal plates with a small air gap. The capacitance may be increased by bringing the plates closer together, but this will result in arcing at high voltage. An insulator, the dielectric material, may be used to prevent arcing, allowing a smaller gap and greater capacitance.

      yes! when used as dual resonant primary and secondary coil (in LMD resonant mode), the voltages between the coils are out of phase.
      This makes huge voltage differences between them possible.
      That can even be increased more, by giving the coils themselves a positive and negative DC offset.
      The primary and secondary coils together yhen form a capacitor!

      secondary is also (parallel) tuned so it has the same speed as the primary (series resonant).

    I'm sorry to bother you but I just watched a video that bothers me. The presenter was showing the same design (I believe), but near the end he said that there was some special benefit to winding the coil the same way, BUT the two wires should simply be connected at each end effectively making the two wires one with an insulator in between. He also suggested putting a resistor between the two soldered ends. He also said that this is probably the configuration Tesla actually wanted the patent for. Personally, I don't see it. Do you see any benefit to his configuration?

      No bother, its a valid question. That configuration is not in the patent, if tesla wanted it, he would have done so.
      that configuration distorts the magnetic field, as the windings are counter rotating. I see no benefit with this or adding the resistor. (i tried)
      Tesla's method creates an increase in voltage difference between the windings. that is a great benefit, as it increases the possibility to store electric energy in its dielectric field. When the coil is resonant it can store much more electric energy in the electric field of the coil.

      The bifilar coil, has inductance (abbility to store electric energy in its magnetic field), but also capacitance (abbility to store electric energy in its dielectric field), this makes it very capable for inducing radiant energy, by impulsing the bifilar coil.

      Even more the coil can act as a capacitor, but with the plates (windings) connected. This means its able to charge the dielectric field in virtually no time (a capacitor cant do that). This sudden change in voltage /dielectric field strength, in combination with the pancake, is able to produce unipolar aether pressure, that sets the aether in motion. a very unique longitudinal energy is the result.

    Hey Ivo, it's Jeremy. So you use speaker wire. Now, my question is will a regular power extension cord work all the same? Im falling just the regular side-by-side 110V AC Power Outlet (US) compatible extension cord. Two-prongs. Nothing fancy such as those that have 3 windings one for ground. Or the big 3-phase compatible. None of that, just the mundane normal tiny little things. I ask because I have a few that are sort of "chewed up" or what have you and I don't want to scrap them and certainly not throw them away. Anyhow, thank you for your hard work and diligence!

      But I also like the high current setup, with a large capacitor. that doesn't detune quickly.

    So follow me here...the way you made this coil is essentially by taking two flat spiral coils wound together (i.e...speaker wire wound vertically)...
    So now the primary distributed capacitance exists between the two coils stacked vertically (unlike the other way to wind horizontally (as in Tesla's patent drawing)). Additionally the inductance is distributed
    And in future videos you will begin to show coils connected in resonant circuits...
    So now one must consider this special coil you made in terms of resonance....series vs. parallel...as this coil alone can act as a series resonance coil or parallel resonance coil depending upon how you connect the external wires (note no external capacitors or coils needed in either case).
    The beauty of this is that you no longer have the problem of parasitics (which you are experiencing in your future videos) in your resonant setup. As the distributed parasitics (inductances and capacitances) of your resonant circuit is negated due to the special winding you have in this video.
    To operate this bifilar coil in parallel resonant mode connect one outside lead to other inside lead (as you typically do)...and the other two leads out
    To operate this bifilar coil in series resonant mode, do not connect the outside lead to other inside lead (leave open)...and other two leads as output
    This also explains why you get a multiple resonant frequencies in future videos...as you add external capacitors (LCC) or inductors (LLC) you create multiple resonant frequencies... (or any other series/parallel combinations thereof)...
    Just thinking out load on this one...

      Hmmm no, don't agree.
      Yes the coil (as any coil) can be resonant by itself. but.
      in the case if this special coil, it is not parallel OR series resonant. But BOTH at the same time.
      And if you dont series connect the 2 wimdings of the coil, leave it open as you suggest, the windings only will act as capacitor plates, but not as a coil, as there is no connection, the loop is opened. So, no resonance.
      On a side note, I just realized something exciting. the circuit in the radiant power video (solid state hairpin circuit) has a part that creates a DC offset to the coil.
      But you can use it differently also. Going to test it tomorrow :)

      ...they are implementing in integrated magnetic modules. "electromagnetically integrated LC resonant structure for which the equivalent circuit characteristics depend on the external connections". The implementation is two vertically sandwich stacked spiral coils that act in series resonance, parallel resonance or low pass filter mode. So yes, obviously external connections are required (: And the "embedded drivers" planned used in power resonant DC converter front ends that are pushing KW's of power to servers. I picked it up from a dissertation that I read, as I was replicating your device to do Vars to Watts, and thought you would be interested...Google Bo Yang Chapter 3 and there is a description in there. For that matter I recommend you read all 5 chapters of his dissertation. It has changed my plans on my final Vars to Watts implementation that uses your spiral wind coil ideas with his ideas and my own. That is why you keep seeing me reviewing your videos...at any rate...great to have sites like yours!

      I don't know if wireless transmission of electric power is possible with these coils, I do know it only works if they are impulsed. so not a dc pulsed signal, but a high voltage impulsed signal. I do think you need more than one coil. You really have to figure it out yourself.

    Thank for the video, I have built a Doctor Bob Beck magnetic pulser with around 200 volts to the coil that toss a metal washer around 2 feet. David Wong and Matthew Rife use what looks like a Rodin coil but I can Not see the benefit of that to create a vortex to make a magnetic field spin, what trying to do Is create the most powerful magnetic field. Doctor Royal Raymond Rife and Phillip Hoyland used a 3.3 and 3.8 MHz and later Others found 3.1 MHz Is better carrier frequencies to create a harmony with lower frequencies which gave the Rife machine Its power to cause a MOR according to John Bedini If It does Not have the carrier frequencies Its Not a Rife machine, John Bedini also added a lower frequency as Don Croft did with The Doctor Hulda Clark zapper says the lower frequency adds penetration eliminating the need for a plasma bulb that only electrode as used with Doctor Hulda Clark zapper Is needed. I have been told that a Rife, Doug coil machine will Not work at high frequencies that must have a Plasma bulb to work at hight frequencies but I do Not see that to be true but since multiple frequencies have to be forced out for It to be a working Rife machine, can as 4 wires be wrapped at the same time each wire connected to a separate frequency generator and amplifier having different frequencies outputs or would that cancel out each other?

      But your right, the inductance is different. Bit its all about the increased voltage difference between the 2 windings, which charges up the capacity between the windings.

    I think the reason so many people fail to reproduce Teslas results is because they fail to follow directions and constantly try improvising his designs (diodes, function generators, non bifilar pancake coils, Thompson Tesla coils, ect). The shear effort required to build these designs in 1891, nearly impossible to find parts. Couple that with patents that leave out specific required components. Luckily, if you read all his patents after 1893, you will find the answers to the problems, and realize why without a specific patented component, the design wont work! Hense, the radiant energy patent.

    Another thing they actually do that I found by accident it's a shield for solar flares a solar flare will set off a geiger counter and it sounds like static but when you move one of these coils near it the static stops no batteries necessary no generators it creates its own solar flare Shield the big the solar flare the bigger the shield but for a big solar flare you need to use iron it won't melt I found that part in the Bible you can bend rebar in the shape of a j but make the two ends close to each other belonger endpoints up you can stick that in a bucket full of rocks or cement and said it wherever you want to Shield like on top of your roof on top of your car on top of you it works I'm giving this away for free anybody smart enough to set it up deserves to be saved from a solar flare so enjoy my bit of information

    This patent is a step towards what Tesla achieved at Colorado Springs, i.e. the iconic Tesla Coil. The key to that achievement was reducing the self capacity of the coil AND adding a load capacitance that was much larger than the self capacitance. This bifilar coil is an improvement over a two layer simple wound coil in that the voltage between turns is V/2. Note in a single layer coil the voltage between turns is 1/N where N is the number of turns. So just by spacing the turns about one wire diameter the self capacity can be greatly reduced. This is in fact the structure of the secondary of the Colorado Springs "Tesa Coil", not the one shown in the referenced patent.
