I sure miss Rhett and his voice.. He was my fiance at the time of his death.. this vid was way before he met me but I miss watching him sing. I met him when he was in a band with my brother.. The Black symphony
+Lori Plester I met the band Riot at a show here in St.Louis. Rhett Forrester was very cool!. I remember he invited me and a a friend onto the tour bus after the the show. We got autographs from the whole band and he asked if I had any music cassettes with me. I just happen to have a live Judas Priest radio broadcast tape. We sat around listening to Judas Priest and chugging shots of Jack Daniels from the bottle!
+Lori Plester Hi Lori, You were very lucky to have what little time you got to spend with him. I'm sure you have many beautiful memories. I have been a fan since I was little 12 year old metal head. His Jack Starr album was my introduction. I was curious if he ever recorded anything with The Black symphony? And if so, where can a super fan get his hands on them.lol sincerely David
Yeah Lori, read your name in Wikipedia. I feel your pain, my ex-girlfriend was killed by a drunk driver, driving the wrong way down a 2 lane highway with no lights on.That was going on 3 years ago now and it was the first girl whom I ever dated that I felt really compatible with, taken from me so soon so I know all about losing loved one's to senseless means. It was a hard thing because I thought it shouldn't have ended so soon. But hey-it is about what is given to us I know you were in love. I loved Riot, have all their albums, but never saw this video till now Rhett was a good looking man (no I am not gay !)But it is easy to see that Rhett had non problem finding women who were interested in him And he had great stage presence You are kinda cute yourself girl, If you are over 40 and this isn't an old photo then I say you are aging gracefully They just don't make rock & roll this great anymore
One of the most marginally under rated bands in the rock and roll history. If all those things are not enough, they ( and we, why not) lost three irreplaceable talents, nice human being. One of the saddest and tragically fate in the rock and roll. Watched this one performance gives me mixed feelings : good to hear and see, but touch me deeply so sad about all have happen for all these guys in the band.
It was a tragic thing, especially losing Rhett. The guy had a voice and stage presence, no doubt, he NEVER had a problem picking up women. They were going places with him on vocals, so it seems. Probably because of shitty management or the record label, somehow they never got recognized for the great band they were. Quite frankly "the music industry" has never really been about quality music, rap music verifys that, but only interested in what they can sell I honestly think Riot was one of the best American acts of that period. I also liked Y&T and Legs Diamond. Rhetts death was the most tragic, getting shot for not giving your car to some criminal punk. Cancer got Guy (the other vocalist) and Crohn's disease got Mark Reale. Well -like Jim Morrison said, "Nobdody gets out of here alive"
Rhett was like a lion on Stage he commanded like few front man ever did. What a awesome time that was and a sad tragedy of what was to become. Rip Rhett your music will always be here for the masses!!
June 22nd 1996, two weeks before the Atlanta Olympics, Rhett Forrester inducted into Atlanta's own Hard Rock Cafe. Two large shadow boxes containing Rhett Forrester memorabilia now adorn the walls of the "Georgia" room. A lasting tribute to all the fans whose lives were touch by his music.
Rhett was a great singer. I saw RIOT in LA. Ratt headlined the show, then Alcatrazz (Yngwie) and RIOT opened--- They were by far the best band that night. Rocking Big Time!!!!!
I had all thier albums, a fan before you ever heard of them on the radio, restless breed got them to their height of fame. If you were young, struggling and having to make your own way in the world, this was the music that defined some things. You connected to it. It became the basis of where we came from. back in the day so to speak.
Bonjour from France to everyone !...this is, by far, my favourite hard rock song !!! RIOT overseas right to Europe !! and forever in time !! Eternal !! A friend of mine, in high school, gave me a tape in the early 80' ( Ok, i'm 52' ) , and it was RIOT !!! It was this concert with "Showdown", " "Loved by you " ( fantastic Harmonica !!! ) and all the rest !!! ... Ok, at the time : Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Accept and all the brits post-punk-groups... But Them... Just listening to that song on the web (!).... thought it was lost forever, no trace !!...Thank you CHONGeye from France, from an old kid ...the melody is fantastic ! Tired to get old... " Ils étaient Enormes " !!!!!! !!!!!!! " They were great " !!!!!!!!!...and forever will be !!!
Take heed kiddies. A good song does not need a hundred notes per second. Melody, groove, emotion, texture. Good stuff. Thanks for posting this classic !!!
Saw them with Rainbow and Scorpions in '82. Never heard of them before and pegged them for a lame opening act. Blew me away and blew the headliners off the stage. Walked to the record store the next day, bought "Restless Breed" and played it til the vinyl melted. Still my favorite album.
One of my all time favorite vocalists who pushed it to the limit. Heavy Metal for me was all about guys like this. Sadly never saw him perform live but his voice has been a soundtrack to a lot of my life. The guys voice cut like a razor. Fanx for posting.
Always one of my fav bands. Have all their albums from Rock City to Born in America. Lost track of them after that. Just kick ass rock n' roll the way it should be played.
I saw this band twice. The first time, Rhett Forrester, RIP, spit beer in my face. This was at the Concert Factory in Costa Mesa CA. The second time, they opened for KISS and Vandenburg in Lon Beach and just kicked ass. You can't steal the show from KISS but they came close.
Riot has been one of my favorite bands ever since this album came out back in 1982. It's hard to believe that Rhett, Mark, and original vocalist Guy Speranza are all gone (and Rhett and Guy have been gone for a long time, too). What a great band. I just wish I could have seen them live.
Ibleedwhiskey Planetone Actually,I feel blessed to have seen a lot of great bands back in the day..Including Rush,Riot,Deep Purple,Black Sabbath,Rainbow,Scorpions,Nazareth....The list is very extensive...
i saw that show twice in the same weekend, friday in providence and saturday at the cape cod coliseum! blackmore smashed his guitar to pieces friday night, but didn't on saturday. just another night in the 80s! fun and more fun!
Bought the vinyl this performance came on back in '82 I believe. For a 6 song EP, it still packs more punch than most band's best full-length albums. This band just kicked so much ass, how they were overlooked was criminal.
I bought that cassette way back when. It got lost or stolen. I tracked it down on CD a few years ago. I paid $20 bucks for it. Best $20 I have ever spent. That live set was fucking powerful!
That live EP is explosive. This version of 'restless' is from that EP. The outro to 'loved by you' defines metal circa 1982. Riot deserved so much more than they got.
Saw this video on MTV, I knew Riot but not Rhett Forrester at this time. Loved it, he completely won me over, I immediately went out and bought their live ep with this on it.
seen this tour. great band first album i bought by these guys was rock city back in 79. was hooked till rhett left. can't find these kind of bands today.
Amazing how hard it is to get four other to people to agree to do it with me though. I have a pretty good band but Riot is not on their radar and I cannot seem to convert them. It is not that they don't like it they just don't have the passion I do from hearing these songs a lot when they were released. We used to play them back then though, Swords and Tequila, Hard Lovin' Man, To the Alter of the King, Feel the Same. Great songs all.
That's a live performance as good as the album-of which every note is engrained in my brain. Not all the bands were that good live. They had loud figured out but that didn't make up for shitty playing. I turned a lot of people on to Riot, I was like the underground music metal head.
@DreamZfleetwoodmac why all the labels? they never saw them live that's why... i knew Rhett before riot his voice was killer live...riot was killer with him too.. all polished musicians at their best..
This is the story of Rhett Forrester's death taken from Atlanta's newspapers. Man dies after being shot at intersection. A 37 year old Tucker (Georgia) man died Saturday morning after being shot in his car at a Northwest Atlanta intersection on the corner of Lovejoy and Merritt off Techwood. Atlanta police stated that two men approached Forrester while he was stopped at an intersection.
I love all metal, period, so I agree on a certain level with what you say. I do wonder, how would you feel if you bought Death-Scream Bloody Gore or Possessed-Seven Churches thinking it would be a similar album to Riot or Priest or whoever? I love metal so I would rejoice, crank it and blast it as loud as possible. My experiance with others has left me to believe they are prejudice to forms of metal they don't like. What D.R.I. said a long time ago still means something-CROSSOVER check it out.
One of the best metal songs ever written!!!!!
Mark was a true genius!!!!
His Immortal Soul will shine on eternally.....
Mark Reale is a riff machine. Man, these guys were so damn good.
Rhett Forrester murdered January 22nd, 1994. R . I . P man. You were a great musician.
I sure miss Rhett and his voice.. He was my fiance at the time of his death.. this vid was way before he met me but I miss watching him sing. I met him when he was in a band with my brother.. The Black symphony

I loved his voice and the songs he did that I was very familiar with on the Riot albums, sorry for your loss.
Bless u Chick!

I heard recently they finally got the guy who killed Rhett.
Necro Damus
GOOD !
Agree !
This is when Music was at its best!! Rhett was a super talent as was Guy. GREAT VIDEO!!! Both will be remembered forever and never forgotten!
Rhett was like a lion on Stage he commanded like few front man ever did. What a awesome time that was and a sad tragedy of what was to become. Rip Rhett your music will always be here for the masses!!
I felt the same way, he commanded the stage. Took control and led the show. Awesome Singer with a awesome band. RIOT Rocked Hard!!!
My all time favorite 80's rock band! 'Fire down under' just totally blows anything else from that time period away!

What a MASTERPIECE! Homework for young rockers!
Take heed kiddies. A good song does not need a hundred notes per second. Melody, groove, emotion, texture. Good stuff. Thanks for posting this classic !!!
This was one of my best hard rock bands of the 70's and early 80's. Had all the LP's and wore them out on my teenage turntable!

Tony, Guy, and Rhett. Not many bands can say they have had 3 amazing vocalists
also Mike DiMeo... and now with Riot V Todd Michael Hall.
Saw this video on MTV, I knew Riot but not Rhett Forrester at this time. Loved it, he completely won me over, I immediately went out and bought their live ep with this on it.

Great song and great solo!
Just coolness in the early days..a shame they lost two frontmen.
I love this song.
That's a live performance as good as the album-of which every note is engrained in my brain. Not all the bands were that good live. They had loud figured out but that didn't make up for shitty playing. I turned a lot of people on to Riot, I was like the underground music metal head.
