Finally someone with balls who BBQ's with a foot of snow on the floor. I live in iowa and the winters are brutal but I still go outside with coveralls and some meat and smoke it!! Its nice I am not the only one!
This is the difference between a 2-5k offset smoker and a $199 offset smoker. People don't understand how the challenge of maintaining constant temperatures when you are dealing with cold temperatures. A cold wind is actually worse. There are very few year around BBQ restaurants in the northern part of the US and Canada. It can be done, but it's a far greater challenge. I live in Montana. I'd love to have an expensive, ⅜ steel offset smoker... Great post...
Loving that smoker. I smoke more in winter than in summer. The summer heat in east Oklahoma is way worse than anything else and the humidity and bugs are miserable. I have no problems being out at 20 degrees, but others can have those 105-degree days. We celebrate the 4th with a cookout in January.
Thanks man! I lived in Oklahoma for 7 months when I was in the military at fort sill. always thought about retiring back out there. Bugs and humidity aside 😂
I wanted this on a Cart pretty bad just for the look initially but no way I could move it around the yard with how much it weighs. Not to mention bringing places to cook- I think you’re on to something!!!
New sub here! That’s a badass smoker, those ribs and pork belly looked fucking delicious! Those temps on the smoker from left to right were very even which is impressive!!! Smoke on, brother!
Thank you! Yes I believe the finish is a coat boiled linseed oil. Surface rust is inevitable with it being exposed, but this thing wouldn’t rust through in 4 of my lifetimes! For the surface rust, I’ve just been spraying with pam before a cook and it does a decent job without wiping or scrubbing the outside of the pit

It was pretty peaceful out there in the quiet of the snowfall and the fire crackling! Won’t be my last time!
@Merricks_Meat I'll bet it was fun. You can stay warm tending the fire. Sounds great to me.

Nice looking bbq! Do they put some kind of seasoning on the outside of the pit too keep it from rusting?
