Tyler I completely agree with you about jerkbaits in December on ponds. I crushed the fish today in South Florida fishing the new Shimano Zumverno 95 and even had a grand slam - largemouth, peacock bass and black crappie putting 12 fish in the boat by 1pm. I tried frogs, devils horses, a glide bait and even a drop shot but only the jerkbait worked for me today. So they do work great on ponds as long as you can fish open water or lightly jerking the bait above the weeds.
Great stuff!! I have the best results fishing a tube unpegged and putting a foam ear plug up inside of the tube. It slows the fall down even more because of its buoyancy. Also hand tied maribou jigs with rabbit zonker strips for legs gives a great methodical free flowing presentation.
Last January, I caught my limit of keepers 3 times using a suspending jerkbait in a pond. They work in ponds for sure. I'm going this evening to the same area to see if I catch them again, but plan to try a jig, tube, and lipless crankbait, too. In December, two years ago, I smashed the bass on a lipless crankbait in the bayou (brackish water).
I usually still use the yoyo technique with a lipless during the winter with or without grass. However I think the stop and go could prevent more underwater snags
I HOPE YOU SEE THIS MESSAGE I consider myself a very advanced fisherman. I love your channel. Giving advice and breaking it down by regions of the country is something few RUclipsrs do. Florida fishing is much different than fishing most of the country. Just wondering….if you are wearing one of your hats, does that help to skip a bait like you do??😆 Going shopping on your page. 👍🏻
Yes it will definitely help you to skip baits better lol. Florida is tremendously different than any part of the country. I have fished in Florida almost every year over the last 15-20 years. I love it…but it’s extremely different. Bowl shaped lakes, grass all around the lake, grass all through the lake and their own species of bass. I really love it though
nice vid, Tyler! I’m gonna have to try that duoRealis tune. Looks exceptional! I will echo the comment about pond or bank fishing with a MB110 or expensive bait …hold rod tip high! You don’t wanna get it hung either. !! lol
I fish a river/lake area that's basically a pond with a bunch of lillies in the middle section that is shallow that drops off into river going 5-15ft deep. Saw most in 6-8 feet of water, tried lipless and chatter, alongside spinner and only had 1 all day. Did find a huge baitball next to a shallow 3 ft to 15ft drop off, but no fish eating at it. Should I run a jerkbait for a day through these deeper areas?
I like using a lipless crankbait this time of year. I have 4 different styles tied on now. Tubes have always been a favorite lure. Easy to use and they produce. Now the jerk bait……. I call them a boat only lure. I’ve used a jerkbait in dozens of ponds around my city and state (Ky) and they just don’t produce. Oh sure I’ve caught a few fish on a jerkbait, but nowhere near what a catch on a tube or even a jig. At this point I am open to try anything to get a jerkbait working for me….anything but line less than 12 lb test. I would snap off 6 or 8 or 10 pound line in my hook set. It’s way to frustrating a bait for me to use more than about 10 cast if I don’t get a bite.
I have experienced using 2 types of lipless crank in a day. Color had no effect it was all about sound. Red eyed shad vs cotton cordell. It was wierd as it went on for hours.
Great video as always! Hate bass fishing winter here in Ohio, always set my sights on toothy critters as the water gets colder. Will you be at the expo in Columbus again this year?
Tough to answer that one . Lots of variables. For a jerkbait , 6’8”-7’ medium or mh mod rod is best , a jig mh 7’-7’3” , Ned rig or drop shot a mh or med 7’ - 7’3” works best . What type of cover you’re fishing matters too

Im still whackin em in VT. Water ain't got hard yet. Caught a ton of smallies and wallies on Champlain yesterday. Water temp on the broad lake was 44
Love how you’re showing bank anglers some love . Great stuff
This makes sense! I’ve seen guys jigging lipless crankbaits and tubes through the ice for smallmouth.

I was kinda surprised by your choices honestly. I was with almost zero doubt, expecting you to say blade baits, umbrella rig as w if the 3.

What’s size rod and set up would you recommend for fishing from the bank in a large deep lake?

This helps thank you!
