"A book is a book. It doesn't matter whether it's hardback, paperback, audio, e-book, kindle." Me: Looks at Jesse's bookshelf confused Me: But, they're all hardback..
That’s probably because he buys them when they first come out and are only available in hardback because he’s so excited about the new book and can’t wait to read it. 😁
The fact that he owns mostly hardback doesn't contradict his statement though. Maybe he just likes hardbacks, that doesn't mean that other versions aren't books as well
Harry Potter is clearly a minor character in those books - the titles are just to mislead the reader. Griphook the goblin is obviously the real main character - as if that needed explaining.
thank you so much for bringing up the blind and visually impaired when it comes to audiobooks! i am legally blind and i was watching this video with my totally blind friend. we both freaked out when we heard someone in such a mainstream setting explain the fact that that’s the only way we can read. braille is bulky, expensive, and incredibly hard to read for longer books. audio is so much simpler, along with ebooks. LISTENING TO AUDIOBOOKS IS READING!
So true!!!!! I just recently found out that there was this shit going on with people hating and saying those who listen to audiobooks aren't real readers. and I was SHOOK!!!! I got so angry, that this community of book lovers could be so so snobbish, damn.. I wish I could do audiobooks, but I just can't because it all just flies out of my head, but I know how amazing some of them are. I have almost made it through the Illuminae audiobook while reading along and that audiobook is so amazing! Its really like a movie playing out!!!
I am honestly curious: how does commenting work when blind and what does "legally blind" mean? I have a wheelchair bound friend who would also probably enjoy the heck out of audiobooks seeing as he can't use his hands for a whole lot like paging but he can sort of manage a tablet. I'm glad Jessé brought this up as I'd never thought of bringing my friend an audio book.
Coreen Benadie commenting when you can’t see is actually fairly easy. there are plenty of screen-readers like voice over that read everything on your screen. there is also voice to text. for me, and most people who are under the umbrella term legally blind, i have vision. what you see about two hundred feet away, i only start to see twenty feet away, so i use large text and screen magnifiers to see my phone and such. and yes that sounds like an amazing idea :) they really must have a good friend in you!
Thanks for the quick reply@@addiewithapen I love talking to people on the Internet! This is also turning out to be quite the insightful conversation. Oh of course! That makes a lot of sense actually! In my own experience voice to speech has been very cumbersome but that's probably because I can see and type myself. I oftentimes don't realise how blessed I am, thanks for reminding me! Oh spelling and grammar errors must be a nightmare when trying to decipher what the other person meant when it's being read out loud and puns are probably near impossible! Ohh I actually knew someone who was legally blind then but due to the language difference I didn't recognise the term at first. The guy I knew could see sort of the opposite of tunnel vision and had all his screens magnified to the max! This also helps me understand why my friend uses "okay Google" so much and will cause me to be more patient and mindful with him. I like to Google for people but he probably want to do things himself also. Too often I forget he's disabled and I try to hand him something or ask hom to hand me a thing and we laugh awkwardly. I do hope to be a good friend to all my friends haha.
I have argues with many people about this. And they were like, well without them saving her from the troll... And im like If ron wasnt running his mouth, then she wouldn't be in that bathroom. And their last argument, is complaining about Hermione... And im like K
I feel like Wattpad is definitely an odd place to go to. Since it's open to the public there's definitely books that you DO NOT want to read but at the same time there are some amazing reads. I feel like people only see the dark parts of Wattpad and really overshadow the good writers. Also I think alot of people go to Wattpad to read for guilty pleasure following certain cliches and tropes and bad writing that they actually like... >
AYokMizumi kiaiKazeyuki I want to get my book published, even if it’s in like 15 years. Even so, a bunch of my friends have told me to use Wattpad just as a start. Do you agree or no?
@@lillytaf923 it's definitely up to you. I personally think that Inkkit is great if you have an audience and if it gets popular, you might have a chance to publish it. I've been on wattpad for about 3 years now and a lot of good authors have moved to Inkkit because the wattpad community was getting toxic. But I gotta say that it's a great place to make friends and build an audience. So...i think that you should build an audience at wattpad first and then if you are comfortable, you could move to Inkkit. (I'm sorry if this was a huge mess. English is not my first language)
if percy jackson was a movie series without the books it would have been great, i liked the acting and effects etc. but since there was books and they weren’t even CLOSE that pisses me off
@@xcacoethes4622 They shouldn't have called it Percy Jackson and the Lightning Theif, they could have called it The Stolen Thunderbolt or something (and with different character names, of course). It would have been obvious that it was a Percy Jackson knockoff, but at least the book readers wouldn't be so darn pissed.
right? its not too problematic (the only problematic thing is us disagreeing abt liking books and their adaptations 😂) and its calm and quiet, quite like a library :p
@@jellyfish2368 The publisher didn't edit it so the book is horrible right now. I'm working on editing and republishing it. But, its Scarlet Memories: The Hallowed Lost by Javin Taylor
Do it! Do it! Do it! It’s so satisfying. I used to think the same way but when I tried with a pencil for the first time it was so satisfying and made the book feel more special. So GO. FOR. IT.
I’ve been following you for a while and am a big fan. I’m also legally blind. I have very little vision, enough to read larger print in very dim lighting, but I depend on audiobooks to read what I want to read. Thank you so much for your defense of audiobooks. I’m so appreciative that you mentioned that shirking audiobooks as “not reading” is ableist; so few people will defend this. Thank you!
Forgive my ignorance, but I always thought that the difference was definition? Reading = sight = words on page Audiobook = sound = listening In a different context, saying that books are superior to audiobooks (the context used in the video) is ableist and wrong, but can the context change the meaning?
@@morromenos1016 Context should change the meaning. That's why Jesse says that it's basically the same thing. Especially for blind people, "listening" is their only way of reading; "listening" an ebook is basically reading a book with their eyes closed but with their ears "open". When you're "listening" an audiobook, you're "reading" the words, the phrases, the sentences in your mind via your ears and you process them in the same way as reading a physical book. At least that's how it's working out for me so I guess it could be similar for people without eyesight. That's my opinion on the matter, I'm not an expert, just a fellow reader 😊
I love audiobooks I love listening to them when working around the house or going for long car drives because honeslty I'd rather be enjoying a good book.
@@danielledouglas99 Listening to audiobooks in the car is the best! I commute to work, so I do that quite a bit myself. It just makes the drive so much more enjoyable!
I actually love all of Cassandra Clare's series equally, with that I mean TMI, TID and TDA. I just love how they all come together and the stories connect and so do the characters. What made the experience so great was reading all of them, and I genuinly think they are all really good
THANK YOU. So many people i see on youtube compare the series and say like TDA isnt as good as TMI or TID. And its so frustrating. Like its all set in different times and they all deserve equal love
@@fatimaa9139 Sure! There are some things that are mentioned that you would understand more thoroughly if you read TMI first, but it's still perfectly understandable on it's own. You will miss a few references that are written into the books but it doesn't affect the comprehension of them. The main issue I see is that if you later decide to read TMI you would know A LOT of big spoilers from reading TDA. But if you don't care about spoilers or are sure you won't read TMI then I don't see any issue with just reading TDA.
I honestly prefer paperbacks over hard covers for two reasons. Whenever I read a hard cover, the sleeve keeps falling off so I take it off and then inevitably end up losing it. And because paperbacks are cheaper and I'm low-key broke
I agree with you, and I've got another reason too. I just find paperbacks waaaay easier to hold. Hardbacks are super bulky in my hand and feel awkward.
I died a little bit inside at those Harry Potter Opinions, I love those characters!! But I respect these people’s opinions. Also speaking of trash adaptations... Percy Jackson anyone?!
I completely agree. We’re already emotionally attached, but also (at least for me) I know exactly what I want and I know the fic is going to deliver, so it’s like playing a good, hard game but knowing you’ll come out on top. The only question is how you get there- because you know you’re going to get there.
Sara 13rose I’m exactly the same with audiobooks, I have a few and I love playing them but I don’t seem to remember what I’ve listened to, as much as when I physically read the book. They’re great for being stuck in traffic though 😁 And wow we have similar usernames!
I mean like... the percy jackson movie was actual trash. They didn't spend money on sfx so they conpletly manulipulated the story. Like it didn't have the spider scene.how.just how.
Regarding the audio books. I have autism and I struggled a bit with reading when I was a kid (thankfully not so much nowadays) and I was given the audio book SABRIEL by Garth Nix when I had open brain surgery. I fell in love with it. I went and bought the book in paperback and read along and then got the rest of the books in their series. Garth Nix is now one of my favourite authors and I have even met him in person. But without the audio book I never would have gotten my love of reading. So for people with autism Audio books can help them read.
I am used to the fact, that movies based on books are mostly bad compared to the books. But Percy Jackson and Insurgent are two movies that I truly hated.
ooh, I prefer reading ebooks over physical books. That's partly a blindness thing. I have partial vision loss so reading electronically is easier, but also have ADHD so audiobooks are hard for me to fully understand. Also I really love what Jesse said about audiobooks, and that saying it's not "real reading" is ableist. I loved that so much I had to pause the video and go tell my mum because I needed to share how awesome that was
I totally agree about writing in books!! My mom died when I was very little and sometimes while going through the shelves at home I’ll see her name in a book and I’ll feel so connected to her ❤️ She was a teacher and I can’t even understand what she wrote sometimes but I still feel somewhat closer to her for having read the book (Idk if that makes sense)
I agree that Cassandra improved in her writing with TID and the series was really good but TMI holds such a special place in my heart (since I read it way before TID and I was so young) so they are pretty equal in my mind, I love all of her characters and books:)
Amen to that!!!!! That's one book which I will never forget... That book changed my life .. I can say that proudly !!!!!! I will never understand the people who dont like it...
I’m a Literature major and I heavily rely on audiobooks because I need to read at least one book every week or two and using audiobooks as I read along is very helpful and allows me finish the books much faster than if I was on my own.
Jeonghan Trash I do the same thing! I used to never listen to audiobooks before I started college as an English Major and had to read so much. Now I love audiobooks. So, I’m really appreciative of the amount of reading I have had to complete for that reason.
How does that actually help? The average adult reads about 50% to 100% faster than an audiobook, so listening to the audiobook while reading along would slow you down significantly.
Hermione sometimes gets too much credit, though. For example, in the Devil Snare scene, it was Harry who was like “light a fire already.” She kinda freaked out, forgot she was a witch, and went “how am I supposed to light a fire without wood!?” So Ron was all “use your wand, Hermione.” Sometimes she’s even credited with stuff she didn’t do. Like it’s actually Harry who figures out that in order to save Sirius, they have to save Buckbeak, and Harry who helps them escape Gringotts by releasing the dragon.
She still did more than them, she had her scary moments, but Ron and harry would not have survived without her at all. Plain and simple, stop getting jealous.
Not like throne of glass????? Well.... Your boy here picked up book one, next day he had the whole series In a short time..... he was waiting for tower of dawn And now he is sad about it coming to an end with kingdom of ash
About the audiobooks: For anyone who's read fangirl, remember Levi, he couldn't contain any info by reading but he was remembering everything he heard. I believe it's totally wrong to come at people who listen to audiobooks. Okay they aren't always great, but to people with reading disabilities, it's a necessity. Then other people just don't have time and listen when in the car, or while washing the dishes. Also, there are the people like me who enjoy a good audiobook sometimes. Just do your thing, and if you don't personally like audiobooks, that's okay hon, nobody forced you to listen to it.
Colors Thank you for making a Fangirl reference! Rainbow Rowell is such an underrated author! Prefer carry on to fangirl tbh but she literally is a Harry Potter fangirl 😂 sorry I also agree with your point about audiobooks I was just happy I found someone who likes fangirl too 😂
I agree so much, you can tell how much a book has been loved because the cover gets worn and the spine begins to weaken because you’ve read it so many times. You’ve taken it so many places. It has lived its life beside you, and you can see it.
@@sannidhinayak7593 Cassandra Clare is a popular author, but a lot of people (Booktubers especially) find her books boring or don't like her writing style.
"the information is going in in different places" that's... a fabulous way of describing it jesse you're so apt at describing things i love it though i disagree with you on tmi but i love your opinions!
That's how I understood it too. Usually when other readers say that audiobooks don't count as reading, they're talking about the literal action because there's clearly nothing to read. They are looking at it very very literally, while other Jesse and Emma from Emmabooks are talking about "reading" as the way your brain makes sense of the information. When you read, the info enters through your eyes, when you listen to a story, the info enters through your ears. After that, the information is handled pretty similarly by the brain.
I like Hermione when her flaws are acknowledged (judgemental, bossy, self-righteous, etc) alongside her positive traits. It creates a more well-rounded and realistic character than the perfect person people view her as.
Movie oppinion; I usually want to read the book before I see the movie, but sometimes seeing the movie before gives me that extra push to go and read the book. Like I have had movies that I watched before reading the book, and after I was like; dang I need to read that book. Also when the movie is trash I’ll still read the book if I haven’t already because it almost never happens that the book is as trash as the movie. Except if the concept just doesn’t speak to me because they based that off of the book at least.. ALSO, Jesse I get why you didn’t like the Ready Player One movie adaptation. I like it well enough but only because I stopped comparing it to the book. It’s an okay movie by itself but compared to the book it’s so bad. Like nothing is the same. So I geddit.
Your videos are so precious. It is easy to see that they come from the heart. They have gotten me out of a huge reading slump. I like your reactions in this video. Keep making these awesome vids!
6:56 I have a feeling this is pointed towards the Percy Jackson series... (Seriously though... the movies were so bad and so inaccurate to the book...)
Yeah like: Annabeth IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BLOND HAIR Not BRUNETTE! HER eyes are GRAY not Blue! And For God's Sake, she is 12!! Oops- I started a rant. Hem hem.
Everlark! I think people who watch the films like Gale since he is good looking. Peeta in the film wasn’t as good looking. So you fall in love with his character instead. Gale wasn’t a good character for me since he was confusing Katniss into liking him, making her guilty about Peeta. Peeta may not have been friends with her for as long, but he sure did save her life on several occasions.
I defiantly ship katniss and gale forever they have so much more in common than katniss and Peeta the only thing that katniss and peeta have in common is that they were in the games together sry I ranted IT IS THE TRUTH
If you watched the miss Peregrine's home for peculiar children movie without reading the books and didn't enjoy it very much you should try the books they were really great👍
I’ve never hated a film adaption like I hated the Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children film adaptation. It also made me hate Tim Burton a little (a lot).
@@ryanfeltner3486 REALLY??!! I DIDN'T KNOW THAT!!! I really hope that they would just stick to the books while making the series so it wouldn't be like the movies.
TMI IS MY FAVORITE CASSIE CLARE SERIES!!! I love all of her books, and while I do see that yet world building and overall writing improved in the later series, I love the TMI characters, and because they were the first Cassandra Clare books I read, I'll never be over the nostalgia
It's like completely different book when compared to the other books in the series....it doesnt even seem like a part of the series except for all the characters. Whenever I reread the series I always start from book 2 !!!
Um......Mare and Maven are great together.....don’t hate me. And yes I have read the whole series. I just love Maven. Also. HOW COULD YOU HATE THRONE OF GLASS??? Sarah J Maas is amazing!
I actually didn’t like the Hunger Games series, and I stopped after the second book, but everyone has been telling me to read the last one and now I think I might, but can I get some second opinions? Also, please please please don’t spoil it!
The last one is the worst. It doesn’t sound like the same author or the same story!! It’s like Suzanne started a whole new book with different characters
Oh, Red Queen? I can talk about that. I really, really, wanted Mare and Maven to become a thing. Together, they made my heart warm with joy. But- sTuPiD bOoK pLaYeD wItH mE
Love trade paperbacks. In Australia mostly just get paperbacks, and not many hardcovers, so those are my favorite. Thanks Jesses for sharing compassionate reader (and person) attitudes and philosophy, its wonderful.
It’s so interesting so many people hate throne of glass and I think it’s one of the best book series ever!! I may be not noticing it’s flaws or just not caring because I’m young (16) and I like my fair share of romance and cheese lol. (Pls no spoil I haven’t read kingdom of ash yet or finished tower of dawn)
i think these are some of the main, controversial issues of TOG that make lots of people hate it tbh : ~ the big age gaps between couples like aelin and rowan ~ how posessiveness because of the mAtInG bOnD is always romantised. i feel like a tiny hint of posessiveness can be cute if it's done right (?) but sjm just takes it too far sometimes. (oh wait i misspelled **a lot of times* ) ~ even though the concept and world is just amazing with mostly loveable characters, there's still lots of unrealistic things that happen in the book that would not happen in real life (obviously i'm not referring to the magic stuff. i'd say what i'm referring to here but i don't want to spoil KOA to you :D) ~ the at this point boring sjm cliché of the bad guys actually turning out to be good guys secretly in love with the main character/enemy to lover ~ the typical fae dudes who always just have to be hot, warrior brutes, are old as hell but are still allowed to be with young ass literal teen/young adult girls just because they're hot and still look young. you know what? even if they still look young but are ugly as heck instead of these bEaUtIfUl, perfect men (or males i guess) i'd bet more people would have a problem with it. i'd put more stuff but i can't be bothered to cause it's late where i live lmao. i honestly love TOG and most of its characters, and really like ACOTAR, but i'm honestly sick with the things i listed above and really REALLY hope SJM doesn't do her usual clichés in crescent city. i love her writing so much and having a main character by her whose love interest isn't described to be some posessive old and handsome fae warrior who's perfect in every way for once will just stEAL MY HEART. thank you for coming to my ted talk * curtsies * also, heyyy i'm 15, nice to meet ya
@@aimisofea7964 lol thanks for making such a detailed reply! i am kind of noticing things are a bit repetitive with the fae males sometimes but i dont seem to care too much? idk why. and the possessiveness thing i can totally see where u are coming from and i think it's all about personal preference, some people like it more than others, and it won't be everyone's cup of tea and that's fine. it was really refreshing to see your points of good and bad and how you said you do enjoy her series for the most part and you weren't just outright hating on it! also crescent city? i don't follow the book community lots i will have to look into that, and i have yet to read ACOTAR! :)
I'm 16 too and really wanted to love Throne of glass, but... I couldn’t finish the first one. In opposition of you, I don’t particularly love romance in a book and I thought that the first book in Throne of Glass had more romance than action and had less world building than what I thought it would have. I heard that the second book was way better, so do you think I could read it even I I didn’t finish the first? I also read it in French, so maybe the traduction was bad...
@@alexeerising2458 maybe my answer is coming a bit late :D I would not recommend reading the second book without finishing the first because the things happening in the end are important I guess. But you can maybe look up what happens somewhere and see if the next book catches you more, if that makes sense. But I also think that the first book has a lot of action but maybe the second has more. I don't know if anyone will read this but if so, I hope it helps :D
Is it just me or do I feel like certain books I own have to be in paperback or hardcover form. Like The Thousandth Floor Trilogy seems like a "paperback series" to me and the Legend Trilogy feels more like a "hardcover series" to me... I usually read the first book in a series at the library, and buy the rest, based on whether I like them in paperback or hardcover. THIS DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE, I'M JUST WEIRD. OKAY BYE.
Same!!!!! OMG, im not alone in being weird!!!! Some books are just ment to be paperback and some in Hardback. Six of Crows for me has to be in hardback!!!! But the Lunar Cronicals are paperback, even though that fourth one is huge!!!
SAME! personally for me i feel like the red queen series is a paper back, but the books that john green has wrote is hard cover. it's just kinda weird to think about sometimes, but i totally get the feeling
I am the same. Usually the uglier books or the ones I don't care that much about are meant to be papeebacks, and the more beautiful ones, or the ones I might be interested in mpre are meant to be hardback. Very calculated decisions here.
@Shirin Shatery I have read only until the third book honestly all I can say I love the storyline but I just can't take the love interests.. after King's Cage, I gave zero shts about Cal and Maven.. not gonna lie tho I think Maven has a better character development than Cal even if Cal is on the good side. But I so hated him at the end of King's Cage that I took a break from continuing the series
Shirin Shatery really pissed off on how he threw away his good character for the throne 🤢🤢 not gonna like tho I was in tears when we get to see more of Maven’s soft true side with Mare on King’s cage- he revoked the laws, stopped the killing, during his wedding he wanted it to be Mare not Iris, and during the attack he forgot about his new wife and wanted to save Mare. I know he’s technically an antagonist in the series but at least he knows how to keep his word. 🙈
Would you recommend the books? I read the first half of the first Red Queen books and stopped. Mare was just being really annoying and it was getting kinda boring. I’ve been debating whether I should pick it up again, but I don’t know.
Read "storm a silence" on wattpad, it has been published too. It's an amazing book and I've seen no one on the book tube community review it(also I prefer the infernal devices over the mortal instruments) ❤️
I'm in the trade paperback camp as well. Mass Market Paperbacks are next on the list. However, for my Favorite books I want them in Hardback for shelf display and such.
I think people really resonate with TID because of the characters. Most people enjoy it more for the character development of the main characters. I agree that 'The Magister' was quite boring until Clockwork Princess.
Wow. I’m impressed by the level of self control he has when reading these. I end up getting very emotional when it comes to books I love 😂 I’m so glad there is a positive and good person I found who has amazing content. Keep it up and thank you so much for all your hard work!
Due to the lack of motivation in reading hard copy books and studying, I’ve been really into wattpad as it suits the traveling efficiency and its overall great platform for reading other people’s works. Each book is a community of its own and that’s one of the biggest reasons why I love it. *note:* Since it’s a platform for people to write their own works for the public, some of them may be I guess.. unrefined. Though this doesn’t really bother me. This note, just adds on to the overall relaxed community where people are not too concerned of expectations. However, I can say that wattpad writers are there for a reason, and that it may be without a doubt to express their sense of creativity in literature to which they can be truly great authors in the platform. I like to think that they are the unsung heroes of authors waiting to be recognised for their talent and skill. Anyways, here are some wattpad recommendations that I personally loved and hope that you would too: - Two Gangs and a Golden Girl (first book of series) *unfinished series with the 3rd book but still growing strong with the 2 books* by Holly Shmit *(warning: Intense feelings are waiting to crush you)* - Agent 13 (first book of trilogy) by Quidam13 - Once upon a royal one night stand by Aria May - The fourth protector (first book of series) by Bri Baker *(fantasy)* I do have a lot more books that I love but these books REALLY stuck with me. *OH and there are some specific stories that the reader would have to pay. This is a new concept for wattpad and only came recently. I am guessing that these stories are more refined but this may be a concern for those who came to wattpad for its free reading materials. Though this concept is crafted for authors to receive support from readers by earning money for their writing. I totally get this concept and I don’t heavily object but.. oh well.. however, don’t you worry little hunny rabbits, there are books where you don’t have to pay. There are just SOME books where you would have to pay in order to read.*
I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion, but I totally believe Sam Gamgee is the true hero of LOTR. Love Frodo and all, but he wouldn't have gotten anywhere without his Sam
Lol, I'm kinda of the opinion that LOTR is the story of two hobbits' big gay love story. It was the love between Frodo and Sam that saved the world and destroyed the ring. Even if you don't see the shippy aspect, it was still love of SOME kind between them that helped them keep going and perform these unbelievable acts of heroism, courage, and sacrifice. If they had loved one another even an ounce less, the world would have been doomed.
IDK if you can really say any one person in LoTR was the "true" hero. Everyone had a part to play that was vital to saving Middle Earth. Take any one away and the whole thing falls apart.
Wait, which size are trade paperbacks? I love small paperbacks and normal sized ones, but I don't like the really tall ones, their size just seems off.
I understand that people may not like the throne of glass books. Personally they are my favorite books. But I think that you shouldn’t stop after the first book. With each book the story gets better and better. Personally I think that the books later in the series are the best, (empire of storms in my favorite) but I feel sorry for those who stop after the first book and don’t get to see the amazing plot twists and characters that happen in the later books. Again if you don’t like the throne of glass books you are allowed your own opinion.
Yeah I agree with you, the first two books were okay, but heir of fire is where things really pick up and the story gets really interesting and after, that queen of shadows and empire of storms are just plain awesome. I'm still scared about how Kingdom of Ash is going to turn out though. 😭
So my friend is obsessed with the books and she never stops talking about them and so ya know as a annoying friend I’m always like oh for gods sake shut up about bloody throne of glass! But she kept protesting that id enjoy it if I gave it a go so I read the first chapter about 3 years ago in secret to prove my point that I’d hate it and I wasn’t a fan and I know you can’t judge a book on the first chapter but to tell you the truth I was scared that in the end I might end up enjoying the book so in my stubbornness I didn’t read anymore because I was frightened I’d love it and then she wouldn’t stop saying I told you so, this has been going on for 5 years and one day I might read it for the last day of school or something but for now I’m steering clear of it and roll my eyes whenever it’s mentioned 😂😂😂 please don’t judge me
Geek Girl no judgement. I have done the same. I would suggest you try it but you do you. If you never read it that’s your decision but I would highly recommend. If you do read it yes you will probably get a few “I told you so”s but if you enjoy it you could talk about it to your friends. Again no judgement just be happy about your decision. Ps have a nice day. 🙂
Dolphina Angel I probably will try it one day I just don’t want to at the moment because my friend would literally tease me about it non stop for the next 3 years 😂 Thank you for not be aggressive towards me because I haven’t read it, it’s nice to find rational and kind people on the internet for a change! Hope you have a nice day too 😊
ok so for the whole audiobook situation, the only problem I see is how people interpret the word "reading" . The word "read" means to look at and comprehend writing on a page or something. I do believe that listening does count as the same as taking in a story and comprehending it, it's still a book. Just the definition of reading gets people mixed up.
I'm ok with hardbacks, but dust jackets are *annoying* , especially when reading it on the go and stuff. They look nice on the shelf, but that's basically it.
IKR!!! I mean mare should have given at least given him a chance.Like when she becomes his prisoner and he confessed about his feelings for her and his friend Thomas, she should have been like "trust me not to run away and maybe I can trust you with my heart." Like come on.Im on the last book but I still need to see if we have hope for him. But my heart also ached for Kilorn.I wish she could have had a change of heart and asked Kilorn,"Are your feelings still the same for me?" And he should have been like,"What happens if I say yes?" "I'm gonna say mine have"
I'm not really a shipper, but I feel like none of the boys Mare was interested in had much chemistry with her. I would be happier if she stayed alone, without anyone because OH BOY IS SHE ANNOYING
THANK YOU SO MUCH for putting an image of the book underneath each comment if the book itself wasn’t mentioned! Not having to run out and get lost on Google every time a character shows up that I don’t know yet made this video experience ten-times better.
Oh please...harry is the best character in the book. There is a million draco malfoy fans who hate harry because he is "frustrating"?!? Yeah..draco is just bloody great!! Did you even read the book? Everyone in the series have their flaws and harry has the least of them especially considering all the shit he has went through!!!
I feel like a lot of people(including me) think that Draco is a great character because of his character development throughout the series, and how you can see how the tasks he is given effect him mentally. Along with that, Draco never really had anyone to confide in, as most people that knew him saw him as a huge jerk. On the other hand, Harry had Ron and Hermione, and many others he could go to in his times of need, but for any small reason he deemed worthy, he chose to deal with it alone, and reacted to small situations harshly as a result, which can be pretty frustrating.
Arcoiris ...voldermort couldnt feel love because he was born as a result of love potion(not his fault) So why dont you just fan girl/boy him!! All villians have thier own reasons !! Draco became less of a pain in the ass in the last book so I get the fact that you like him but never will I get why people choose him over harry!!
Urja Desai .....Still why draco over harry?? Harry lost his parents, when through hell in his teenage(especially order of pheonix),lost almost every parent figure, and more which is all much worse that "people think am bad,(because I bully everyone), I have no one to talk to" and all those bullshit!!
afootineachworld Draco is a great character. Yep, sure he was annoying at times but, he grew up with parents who taught him muggle Borns were bad, and he was superior. When he reached Hogwarts, he was overwhelmed. He wanted to be friends with Harry and was disappointed and confused when he was rejected, he started to hate Harry and his friends, then all Gryffindors. He didn’t want to loose his popularity and his ego so he had to do stuff he didn’t like. His father, Lucius wanted buckbeak executed. He was forced to kill Dumbledore and was scarred to see him die, in front of him. He didn’t want to die and he cared for his family. He was tempted to leave and go into hiding(only in the books, dumbledore offered) but the others got there to quickly. In the deathly hallows, he didn’t tell Bellatrix Lestrange about Harry, when he knew it was him. He didn’t want to be the cause for Harry, Ron and Hermione deaths. A theory which I think J.K Rowling said could be true, was that he loved Hermione. Imagine loving someone but can’t talk to them without being rude. He was to scared about what would happen to him if he said anything. I think Harry, nearer the end, realised, so he saved Draco and his friend. He wanted to stay on the good side, however he loved his mother(not his father) and went with her. I think Narcissa was okay with half and muggle borns but she devoted her life to Lucius. This is why she lied to the darkest wizard of all time.Draco, after the war, found a girl he loved and taught him to be good to all people, not just pure-bloods. Later, she died, leaving him to care for a child of his own. Thank you,

In case it does need explaining, I have done so in this video ruclips.net/video/R8vu56Ufrx4/видео.html

Travis Minger I agree.
Depends on the Author, their grammar, and the type of ff it is for me.
It's the fact ANYONE can write on it. But then some incredible writers end up there too
My friend thought that it'd be fun to write a crack fic, nothing made sense and there was no grammar to speak of.

thank you so much for bringing up the blind and visually impaired when it comes to audiobooks! i am legally blind and i was watching this video with my totally blind friend. we both freaked out when we heard someone in such a mainstream setting explain the fact that that’s the only way we can read. braille is bulky, expensive, and incredibly hard to read for longer books. audio is so much simpler, along with ebooks. LISTENING TO AUDIOBOOKS IS READING!
AMEN TO THAT
So true!!!!!

Reading = sight = words on page
Audiobook = sound = listening
In a different context, saying that books are superior to audiobooks (the context used in the video) is ableist and wrong, but can the context change the meaning?
@@morromenos1016 Context should change the meaning. That's why Jesse says that it's basically the same thing. Especially for blind people, "listening" is their only way of reading; "listening" an ebook is basically reading a book with their eyes closed but with their ears "open". When you're "listening" an audiobook, you're "reading" the words, the phrases, the sentences in your mind via your ears and you process them in the same way as reading a physical book. At least that's how it's working out for me so I guess it could be similar for people without eyesight. That's my opinion on the matter, I'm not an expert, just a fellow reader 😊

The Harry Potter series would have ended very different if Hermione didn't read
Ha! True!
They would’ve died in the Devil’s Snare without Hermione lol
The boys probably would have died in the first book.

Jenna726 or the giver
The movies on their own are average. But when comparing them to the books, it’s horrible.
Yeah like:
Annabeth IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BLOND HAIR Not BRUNETTE!
HER eyes are GRAY not Blue!
And For God's Sake, she is 12!!
Oops- I started a rant.
Hem hem.
Throne of Glass is my absolute favorite series
Jordan Casey not mine, i thought it was sooo boring but acotar was muuch better
Same, in rereading it rn!
Oh and I'm also working on A Court, but my teachers wont let me read it in class because they thinks it's inappropriate
@Shirin Shatery yeah I hated it. I got about halfway through and returned it
Yes my hunger games gang... like if you ship katniss and peeta, comment if you ship katniss and gale❤
Lily Ahmet Kale/Everthorne forever!(idk that might be unpopular opinion😂)
EVERTHORNE💖💖
EVERTHORNE😂💖 I love them so much. Gale's so perfect to me😍
I defiantly ship katniss and gale forever they have so much more in common than katniss and Peeta the only thing that katniss and peeta have in common is that they were in the games together sry I ranted
IT IS THE TRUTH
Anything by Sarah J Maas is my favorite❤❤❤
💗 loved seeing all your reactions here!
If you watched the miss Peregrine's home for peculiar children movie without reading the books and didn't enjoy it very much you should try the books they were really great👍
I saw the movie and loved it. This year, I finally read the first book and I.am.in.love.
I’ve never hated a film adaption like I hated the Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children film adaptation. It also made me hate Tim Burton a little (a lot).

*cough cough* lookin at you Percy Jackson.
Hopefully the Disney plus series is better, it will be uncle rick and his wife is involved
@@ryanfeltner3486 REALLY??!! I DIDN'T KNOW THAT!!! I really hope that they would just stick to the books while making the series so it wouldn't be like the movies.
yessss
TMI IS MY FAVORITE CASSIE CLARE SERIES!!! I love all of her books, and while I do see that yet world building and overall writing improved in the later series, I love the TMI characters, and because they were the first Cassandra Clare books I read, I'll never be over the nostalgia
The first Throne of Glass book isn't the greatest, but it gets better and better. :)
Waaaay better!
I actually loved all the books
I LOVED THRONE OF GLASS
It's like completely different book when compared to the other books in the series....it doesnt even seem like a part of the series except for all the characters.
Whenever I reread the series I always start from book 2 !!!
my personal favorite is the third one
Um......Mare and Maven are great together.....don’t hate me. And yes I have read the whole series. I just love Maven.
Also. HOW COULD YOU HATE THRONE OF GLASS??? Sarah J Maas is amazing!
Fable Thorn-I agree mare and maven are the only couple I need in that series.
Sarah J Maas owns my goddamned soul 😍😍😍 She’s a literal queen
Also, I adore Mare and Maven too. I thought I was the only psycho 😂😂❤️
So I am not the only weird one.. Good to know..
Yeah, my sister thinks I am a psychopath because I like Mare and Maven together after all of the books😂
Mockingjay is the worst of all the hunger games
Still 10/10 though.
I didn't like it because it made me cry
Why, they are all amazing and the series is easily the best YA dystopia
I actually didn’t like the Hunger Games series, and I stopped after the second book, but everyone has been telling me to read the last one and now I think I might, but can I get some second opinions?
Also, please please please don’t spoil it!
Nooooooo
The last one is the worst. It doesn’t sound like the same author or the same story!! It’s like Suzanne started a whole new book with different characters
I just finished city of bones (I mean, It’s a good book of course) and I will definitely be finishing all of Cassandra Clare’s series in the future.
The throne of Glass ones hurt my soul 💔

Percy jackson movies
Yes definitely. The movies are complete and utter trash!

Love trade paperbacks. In Australia mostly just get paperbacks, and not many hardcovers, so those are my favorite.
Thanks Jesses for sharing compassionate reader (and person) attitudes and philosophy, its wonderful.

@@sophiemontecalvo7503 i can totally understand that my first one was a clockwork reader and i definitly see that place in my heart aswell
It’s so interesting so many people hate throne of glass and I think it’s one of the best book series ever!! I may be not noticing it’s flaws or just not caring because I’m young (16) and I like my fair share of romance and cheese lol. (Pls no spoil I haven’t read kingdom of ash yet or finished tower of dawn)
i think these are some of the main, controversial issues of TOG that make lots of people hate it tbh :
~ the big age gaps between couples like aelin and rowan
~ how posessiveness because of the mAtInG bOnD is always romantised. i feel like a tiny hint of posessiveness can be cute if it's done right (?) but sjm just takes it too far sometimes. (oh wait i misspelled **a lot of times* )
~ even though the concept and world is just amazing with mostly loveable characters, there's still lots of unrealistic things that happen in the book that would not happen in real life (obviously i'm not referring to the magic stuff. i'd say what i'm referring to here but i don't want to spoil KOA to you :D)
~ the at this point boring sjm cliché of the bad guys actually turning out to be good guys secretly in love with the main character/enemy to lover
~ the typical fae dudes who always just have to be hot, warrior brutes, are old as hell but are still allowed to be with young ass literal teen/young adult girls just because they're hot and still look young. you know what? even if they still look young but are ugly as heck instead of these bEaUtIfUl, perfect men (or males i guess) i'd bet more people would have a problem with it.
i'd put more stuff but i can't be bothered to cause it's late where i live lmao. i honestly love TOG and most of its characters, and really like ACOTAR, but i'm honestly sick with the things i listed above and really REALLY hope SJM doesn't do her usual clichés in crescent city. i love her writing so much and having a main character by her whose love interest isn't described to be some posessive old and handsome fae warrior who's perfect in every way for once will just stEAL MY HEART.
thank you for coming to my ted talk * curtsies *
also, heyyy i'm 15, nice to meet ya
@@alexeerising2458 maybe my answer is coming a bit late :D
I would not recommend reading the second book without finishing the first because the things happening in the end are important I guess. But you can maybe look up what happens somewhere and see if the next book catches you more, if that makes sense. But I also think that the first book has a lot of action but maybe the second has more. I don't know if anyone will read this but if so, I hope it helps :D
@@sophies.6320 Thank you! Yes it helps, I still haven’t bought it nor read it :)
I love paperbacks when it comes to reading because they are more flexible but I really prefer hardcover because they don’t get so damaged
Same. I could never imagine diary of a wimpy kid not being hardcore but I prefer PJO and HoO as paperback
I am the same. Usually the uglier books or the ones I don't care that much about are meant to be papeebacks, and the more beautiful ones, or the ones I might be interested in mpre are meant to be hardback. Very calculated decisions here.
Same! All my Marissa Meyer books have to be hardcover, but all my Rick Riordan books were paperback.
“Unless the movie adaptation is trash.” *Cough cough* Percy Jackson movies *cough cough*

And here I am re reading all ToG books before "Kingdom of Ash" ( which I have postponed it for almost a year because I DON'T WANT IT TO END)
OMG! what!! I loved the Red Queen Series so much (such a fan) uwu.
Mee too
@Shirin Shatery I have read only until the third book honestly all I can say I love the storyline but I just can't take the love interests.. after King's Cage, I gave zero shts about Cal and Maven.. not gonna lie tho I think Maven has a better character development than Cal even if Cal is on the good side.
@@undertheseatv I get it, if you don't like the romance part of the book then there isn't really a reason to continue the series..
Would you recommend the books? I read the first half of the first Red Queen books and stopped. Mare was just being really annoying and it was getting kinda boring. I’ve been debating whether I should pick it up again, but I don’t know.
My unpopular opinion (that no one asked for):
I only buy books when they are worth re-reading, if they aren't, you don't go on my shelf.
Read "storm a silence" on wattpad, it has been published too. It's an amazing book and I've seen no one on the book tube community review it(also I prefer the infernal devices over the mortal instruments) ❤️
I just started reading it today!
@@quenciequeen8145 its amazing ❤️😍
I'm in the trade paperback camp as well. Mass Market Paperbacks are next on the list. However, for my Favorite books I want them in Hardback for shelf display and such.
I loveee Throne of glass❤️ it's sooo interesting and exciting
I feel that the villain in TDI was so uninteresting and not impactful at all compared to TMI with Valentine and Sebastian
Agree!!
I think people really resonate with TID because of the characters. Most people enjoy it more for the character development of the main characters. I agree that 'The Magister' was quite boring until Clockwork Princess.
Mockingjay was my favorite also! I love the risk Suzanne Collins took!
I prefer e-books over physical copies as well. I am tired of people saying that they aren't books though.
Anyways, here are some wattpad recommendations that I personally loved and hope that you would too:
- Two Gangs and a Golden Girl (first book of series) *unfinished series with the 3rd book but still growing strong with the 2 books* by Holly Shmit *(warning: Intense feelings are waiting to crush you)*
- Agent 13 (first book of trilogy) by Quidam13
- Once upon a royal one night stand by Aria May
- The fourth protector (first book of series) by Bri Baker *(fantasy)*
I do have a lot more books that I love but these books REALLY stuck with me.
MJ PREACH! I prefer Legolas Gimli and Aragorn, but Sam is the real reason why Frodo succeeded.
the only thing i see is that you're a banditø
@@jerryg.m.5790 heh heh stay alive, my fren ll-//
They're those super short paperbacks! I actually love them, just not if I place it next to a really tall book when I'm organizing 😂
@@WorldOfBriMarie123 ah thanks! If they're short then I lovet them too😄
I enjoyed the mortal instruments more than the infernal device or the Dark Artifices.
Ilona all we can hope for is that not everyone dies.
2nd one: I sorta ship them. Buttttttt... I SHIP MAVEN AND MARE!!!!!
IKR!!!
I mean mare should have given at least given him a chance.Like when she becomes his prisoner and he confessed about his feelings for her and his friend Thomas, she should have been like "trust me not to run away and maybe I can trust you with my heart."
Like come on.Im on the last book but I still need to see if we have hope for him.
But my heart also ached for Kilorn.I wish she could have had a change of heart and asked Kilorn,"Are your feelings still the same for me?"
And he should have been like,"What happens if I say yes?"
"I'm gonna say mine have"
Right!
I knowwwww the only thing is that maven kept her as a prisoner
I'm not really a shipper, but I feel like none of the boys Mare was interested in had much chemistry with her. I would be happier if she stayed alone, without anyone because OH BOY IS SHE ANNOYING

Arcoiris ...voldermort couldnt feel love because he was born as a result of love potion(not his fault)
So why dont you just fan girl/boy him!!
Thank you,
agree, i love harry
