In an interview after this song was released, Mike Shinoda revealed why it wasn't released. The song wasn't released on meteora in 2002 (when lost was recorded) due to the band deciding that it had a similar message to the song numb. That decision is such a huge gift to everyone now.... To hear Chester so many years after he was lost.... Words truly can't explain how grateful fans are for this gift... Chester is still deeply missed.

I’ve listened to this maybe 10 times now and it’s made me cry each time
You said you weren’t aware how long they’ve had this recorded for, this was an unreleased song from the Meteora days, so it’s even more upsetting to know this was recorded 20 years ago and he was living with that pain the whole time, and like you said the reason it hurts to hear now is because we’re hearing it after what happened happened

Bro i literally cried myself to sleep with this song when i saw it was released, i still can't listen through the whole song without crying. And the most weird part is that im crying and smiling while listening because of the fact that i can once again feel that emotion that i once got when i first discovered Linkin Park back in the days.

Linkin Park will always be a special band for me, I was lucky enough to be able to see them at Reading Festival 2003 so shortly after Meteora was released and it’s still the best concert I have been to, I remember singing myself hoarse and being on a high for ages afterwards. I was right down near the front so I was able to be close to Chester and the band.
Hearing this song and watching the video for the first time had such an emotional impact on me and I just cried, those lyrics hit so hard after everything that happened.
Chester was such an amazing singer who had such an influence on the metal scene, so many singers were inspired by him and although he has left a hole that will never be filled his legacy will live on forever.

Thanks for sharing these raw emotions with guys. It's been an absolute rollercoaster watching reactions and finding familiarity with a lot of people in their love for Linkin Park. As for the song itself it was recorded 20 years ago when they were making Meteora. It hasn't been remixed or remastered. This is exactly how the song sounds as it sounded 20 years ago. Also the reason why it was unreleased is because the vibe and subject matter were too similar to their song Numb. So when it came down to Numb or Lost the band choice Numb to put on Meteora.

  • @DSHndmn
    @DSHndmn Год назад +6

Mike Shinoda came out and said that he asked all the members to listen to all their unreleased tracks to add to the 20-year anniversary for Meteora. As Mike was was the main producer, he had access to most songs and found this one. He said it wasn't released at that time because it resembled other songs too much from the album. Just thought I'd share.

The first album I bought as a 16 Yr old with my own money was papa roach and Linkin Park, ever since then I've been a massive fan, every song they did meant something to me on a personal level as with everyone else and no band since then has filled that void. Was gutted when I didn't get to see them due to the Manchester bombings and as we know it wasn't to long have he was sadly taken from us and around the time I lost my grandad and my best friend (who I was going to concert with) and that last album had so much meaning for me.
They are one of the most loved bands of our generation

I have watched the music video several times today because it’s such a powerful song. And each time I listen to it , it’s just tears for me. I go through hard bouts of depression so this song and post Chester it just really hits hard for me. It’s hard not to hold back the flood of emotions when it comes to this song and the thing that blows my mind is that we are all connected by Linkin Park and Chester… the world may always be divided on many levels of topics and situations but one thing that has united everyone is Linkin Park … everyone loved them , loved Chester, and It still hurts that such a beautiful soul was lost from suicide and depression. The sting of what happened to Chester still hurts but regardless of his passing he still lives on in our lives through the music that Linkin Park created and guess what…. Even after all these years their music is still solid bangers to this day… this released track was cut from the Meteora album because “Numb” had similar energy in its track and the band was only doing 12 tracks on the album at that time so “ Lost” was unfortunately cut from the album and was left sitting in the archives of content created by Linkin Park. Love you Linkin Park, and Love you Chester.. thank you for this song. You still live on in each and everyone of us.

Been having this on loop since I heard it yesterday, this was an absolute masterpiece. I remember back in the days when I was a kid, the days of Numb, Crawling and many more. LP was my go to band since the lyrics of most of their songs were just so on point and relatable. Even after that, they progressed to having their songs featured in the first 3 Transformers films; What I've Done, New Divide and Iridescent (Iridescent being my favourite), I believe I speak for most of us who are fans of LP, we just love the music, vocals and the choice of lyrics.
While LP may have dropped Lost from Meteora due to its similar message to Numb, I am glad they decided to release it after 20 years, and allowed us to come together once more to celebrate the gift that Chester Bennington has left us.

When I heard this. I thought. Awesome, a new LP song with Chester.. So cool.
But when the moment came and he started to sing, it just hit so differently than I expected.
I can listen to there old music just fine. But for some reason a new song with him just hit so differently than I thought.
His voice just made me shiver right away, I did not expect it to hit in that way.. And the fact it was so unexpected make it so much more.
And the moment he sings. " I am tired " there is a break in his voice, its like its pulled out. its just.
Amazing song. and I can't put words on it, but what ever I am feeling, I really did not think I would feel listening to this song when I heard it the first time.
An other things after hearing it many times now.
When the " I tried to keep this pain inside, but I will never be alright "
Looking back there are many of the things he sung where people say, well he was telling us.
But those lines are not like that, it was more a. He feared this, and it turned out to be true.
Suffering from chronical mental illness is something you fight your entire life, and the best you can do is fight so it does not effect others. But you know inside you will never get to be alright.
All the things others life for, is something you can never have, and there is not anything you can do about it. When you live it, that thought is the most heavy thing you carry. No matter what, your life will always be that, I will never be alright. Nothing can change it, no amount of love, wealth, power. I can have everything I ever desired, and I will still not be alright.
Favorite LP song, is hard. because there is so many that means a lot.
However I have many tattoos, and I have designed them myself, with the old Norse way of being used to tell my own story with them.
So I do not have things from songs, or poems, or pictures whatever.
Other than one thing. LP have a song called " This is my December " Not one of there most known, but I listened to it a lot.
And I have in my tattoo the " This is my December " as a ode to LP. the only connection I have to any lyrics or band, so it means something.
It also made sense because I am born in December, so it still tells that story. plus other connections to December.
But for that reason I would say that is the most important LP song for me, can't say if its my favorite.

Honestly you're amazing and i'd hug you if possible! Emotions were huge! LP was, is and will be my fav band! I can't find a way to describe what I feel every time I listen to this "new song". The first listen was like an inner hurricane. Impossible not to cry

    Cause when -- I'm alone --
    I'm lost in these memories
    Living behind my own illusion
    Lost all my dignity
    Living inside my own confusion
He killed himself while alone, same with Chris Cornell and many others, hell most suicidal people. It's dangerous to be alone when depressed, if you are depressed, keep people around you, call and reach out to people, get help, get support, don't sit alone, especially under the influence and get lost in those bad thoughts. RIP for the 10,000th time ChesterBe

Hearing Chester is the warm hug that we, Xennials needed right now. Thanks to Mike for opening up the 2003 Meteora vault. Keeping Chester's memory alive. #HisLegacy #MakeChesterProud
The animation has various videos from their catalog as well as Live in Texas. Beautifully Nostalgic.

I was not prepared to hear a new song with Chester's voice, and even after listening to it several times now, I still don't feel ready to press play. 🙈
"I'm lost in these memories" ... I am sure that rarely lyrics have spoken from the heart of such a large amount of people from all over this planet. 🙏🏻👆🏻

I really enjoyed watching your reaction, I feel the same way. I've been listening to Linkin Park since they first came out while I was in high school. Their music & my best friend helped me get through a really dark place due to traumatic events that I hid it from everyone. It had gotten so bad that I tried committing sui**de several times, it took yrs, although I still have nightmares & bouts of depression even now.

The band was going through old hard drives for the meteora 20th anniversary and found this demo already mixed and mastered. Highly recommend watching this interview: ruclips.net/video/XLOBokuSFpI/видео.html
