    PANYNJ shouldn’t be so restrictive on PATH photography. New Yorkers and NJ residents pay the Port Authority in many ways to keep them running and their response is to ban them from taking pictures on their property? That’s just not cool

      @@monty7657 Ok you’re right, they don’t, but they do use surplus toll revenue from all 3 of their Hudson River crossings and earn revenue from the ports and airports they control. The citizens are the ones paying those tolls, and the airlines surcharge passengers for flights out of there to cover the costs the airlines must give to the Port Authority. And of course, they directly earn money from citizens through PATH fares. All that money is used to operate and maintain all the infrastructure they own, including PATH. The least they could do is let people film the PATH trains

      Someone should sue them - that's how the PA bus terminal (in nyc) ban IIRC got lifted, it'd probably be just as flimsy a ban as here.

    Thanks for this. Brought back many memories of life in Jersey City. I'll also note that during college I worked a summer job in the Port Authority offices of the team designing the original PATH cars and equipment after the takeover from the Hudson Tubes, and I actually had a vote in the final choice for the first PATH cars. My choice of the three was the one finally adopted, so I feel a little personal pride for having been there.

    If it received FEDERAL FUNDING, that makes it a government subsidized company which is now obligated to abide by any protections on citizens offered, including Freedom of Speech - which includes amateur journalism which includes photos and videos for such use.

      It’s not just PATH but many of the other Port Authority properties as well. Photo ban in place on the GWB, tunnels, & the Port at Newark for instance. Not even supposed to photograph boats while at the port.

      @@alidycepaisley3829 ever since the 1993 WTC bombing things started a bit more strict for the Port Authority, but when 9/11 happened that’s when things really got tighter with security. The Port Authority is joint government agency between NY & NJ with their own tighter rules & regulations for their own properties.

    This is one of my favorite Subways since I read about from an old Book of Wonders (1916ed) when I was a youngster. I finally had a chance to ride PATH 25 years ago. Hoboken to 33rd street, returning to Hoboken from an E train transfer from 5th Ave at the WTC. I loved it! Thank you for this terrific Video.

    Honestly, the PANYNJ needs to face more suits over their bans (relating to bridges, tunnels, rail, and airports) - that, if I recall correctly, is how the ban at the PA bus terminal got axed. It's just as dumbassed here to ban it as it is there, IMO (and there are people/orgs who will work pro bono for such suits).

      PATH is notorious among US railfans for throwing a hissy fit over photography in their system. They have it because basically the management still suffer from PTSD after 9/11 & cameras make them think of terrorism.

  • @njlauren
    @njlauren 5 дней назад +1

    The photo ban is stupid. It is basically an anti terrorism policy, the idea being terrorists could take photos and use them in planning an attack. They NJ sports ahd exhibition commision ( who own the land under swamp stadium) have a similar policy with the stadium, if you have a camera with a zoom lens it isnt allowed bc of ' terrorism'.
    Given that public info is readily avalaible, both are stupid.
