Excellent photos, had a few of these from maes y bryn off a former fitter there , Lynne Evans. I used to work for shand mining and my dad was a foreman with them. He used to work for john lock, a big contractor on opencast sites years ago.
Just found this by chance..excellent..i worked for Murphy Bros in the 60/70s when Paddy and Hughie were still in charge (along with Ned Herrity) before it became Murphy Mining,also worked for Shand (mining) in the 70s.......as well as Merriman and many more...........
My uncle James Richardson worked on an open cast mine for the coal board ..he rekoned one Yr they had to abandon one !! As it flooded. Around the Wakefield area ..
