as I stand here confused about my body type I realize it’s not about fitting perfectly in that little box. Kibbe types are meant to be a guide to help us find clothes and accessories that make us feel like we look good, and not a definition of who and what you are. Sometimes we just get caught up on the labels and forget the whole point of it! And also thank you, Aly, for doing this to help us! I have changed my wardrobe a lot and I feel like I dress like myself now!
Can you make a video about Curly Vs Straight hair? How each hair type changes your face structure, if you recommend curly hair on faces with sharp features
It is controversial, because we don't exist in virtual reality. Everything may look very different in photos, but in reality, there is no visual height or appearance of vertical line there is only factual height and body mass. And when compared in real life with people 6'' taller and 30 pounds heavier with the 'same body image', you get to realize that the system is rubbish.
@@blueice011 I said visual, not virtual. We do live in a visual reality, we see things and often perceived things with what they visually look like, from far away, up-close, individually and as a group. When I say visual height matter more, I don't mean actual measurement is a myth. I'm saying it matters in terms of kibbe and just acknowledging basic body proportions, it's as simple as acknowledging that the sky looks blue. Many Kibbe enthusiasts are stubbornly against something as basic and fundamental as body proportions.
@Na Na exactly, I couldn't really find myself in these descriptions. I am short (159 cm) but thin and with long limbs, so people who know me in person are always surprised when I state my height as I have a long vertical line (they assumed I am around 165).
@@SpotlessMind871 same! I'm 163cm (tall for my family/ethnicity but not actually tall) and I never felt like I could be any sort of N type until I forgot height altogether and compared my head to my body. My vertical line isn't short, it's moderate/slightly taller looking. I also don't think the system is totally comprehensive in the strict sense because it excludes people with visibly mixed bone structure who are super tall (imo Zendaya) and visibly dramatic bone structure who are short (Lucy Liu).
She mentioned your vertical line is what it counts but someone tall will never look small or moderate. A short person can have a long vertical line that makes them look taller but never a dramatic, a very tall person will never look small like a gamine or romantic. Is just impossible.
Honest opinion; I think height really can matter in your overall look, however I think it should not be a very prominent factor in Kibbe's system. His system is based on ying and yang, in your bone structure, in your flesh, in your overall look, the balance in your body. It's about figuring out what details fit you, and makes you look the best, what to look for. I think height should be a side note in his sytem, like 'yo, height can influence your overall look', not like it used now as 'yeah, this type might fits your body the best, but no, you can't be because you're too tall/small'.
I feel like kibbe system is very prejudiced against tall women. Everybody types me as classic ior soft classic but then oh no she's slightly too tall to be that, and then I'm forced into a type I don't fit at all. Makes zero sense.
I’m 110% romantic. But because I’m Very tall, everyone refuses to say I’m anything but soft dramatic. Next to other people I can’t look anything other than tall. But my limbs are short to my body. The height prejudice is stupid.
@@heyitslizzybee yes I agree, I have been trying to find my body type and every time I think I'm on the right track I find out that its for a petite body with small hands and feet etc however I am tall with large feet and hands so I feel like im just not getting anywhere with it.
I am a 5’ 2” SN. It’s interesting that Kibbe has a different approach to the word “petite”. You can be short but not petite. That completely clarify my doubts about my height being an issue to be classified in the realm of Naturals.
I am 5'2 also SN. first I though Im romantic because of the shortness and roundness but eventualy I realized Im just overweight SN, but still not quite certain
MadMags Two things made me completely sure I was not in the R o TR groups (even with all the curves) 1. My upper back/shoulder width 2. Waist emphasis is the worst for me.
@@kanikagupta8261 That is true because both have width though Rs have more width through the flesh and not the skeleton whereas SNs have width through the skeleton especially the shoulders. But when you are not used to kibbe and analysing bodies it is really hard to tell.
I’m a 5’1” SN, and honestly, the pervasive feeling of not being petite enough despite being really short was enough to indicate that I’m nowhere near a gamine or a romantic. Nothing about me is thin or delicate; I look heavy, have always looked athletic (and easily gain muscle too tbh), with a very strong/wide frame and soft flesh. Nothing in me is sharp either, but blunt and wide, so I definitely think the whole height thing is just biased by how common it is for short women to also have similarly small frames, meanwhile I literally have a large frame according to wrist measurements and other standards
I was thrown off for a bit because of this because literally every part of the Kibbe things point to Soft Dramatic for me but I was thrown off because when I look at myself I just see that I’ve got a big ol’ head. But like Aly says... it’s not so big it throws off my entire line. We’re not talking Helena Bonham-Carter Queen of Hearts lol
same for me, I always felt like my vertical line wasn't long enough for a SD, so I kind of threw it out the window immediately, but later I realized it was my correct type. My head also isn't that small, but we also have to consider that we see ourselves from a different angle in the mirror, than when others see us IRL, especially from a far
Guys, I recently found out I'm a dramatic classic, I never considered this type because I'm only 5'1. So your actual height doesn't matter, what really matters is how tall you look, your bone structure and flesh
@@veronicazamudio3279 Actually I'm still confused unfortunately, I can't decide because body change constantly due to hormones, and my height is 5'3 and still getting taller. But in the long run I think I'm classic type🤷🏻♀️
Personally I think the perceived height is more important than absolute meisurements. For example: in the Netherlands (where I live) the average woman is 5"7 or 1,70 m. My height of 1,71 m therefore is very average where I live and I am also perceived as very average in height. However, when I travel abroad I am always taller than most women. My bone structure and proportions are absolutely on the soft and feminine side of the spectrum (soft natural or romantic, still figuring that out...) According to the meisurements in Kibbe's text as stated in the video, this is not an option. So I think perceived height or relative tallness is more important than the absolute numbers. What do you think?
It's true ! Am an Arabic girl where I live 1,65 and under are average , I'm 1,72 I look super tall comparing to other women and they keep telling me you look like a modal but in Europe or U.S.A I'm average and quite short for being a modal
Well, it doesn't change the types that fit your height. stylesyntax.com/blog/2020/03/15/height-in-kibbe-2020/ goes into this. I'd want to add (as a dutch person myself) that the way people approach height in the Kibbe system feels weird, because there are a lot of 'but 1.70 is tall', and I'm like 'No, it's not. It's moderate', but that's just my own perception of height. Dutch people just are often a bit taller, the average height is a bit taller than most other places. But that doesn't change the types you belong to, because they're made for all sizes. So, the average dutch person will be natural or dramatic, more so then other types.
@@ZwarteKonijn I get what you are saying. As a dressmaker I often use the Kibbe system in my design process for bespoke women's clothes as a guideline to make something for an individual person to make them glow from the inside because they feel great and powerful in their own body. I try to train my eye in typing people quite quickly, and I take their meisurements and photograph. Sometimes, when I look back at the data I collected, I am surprised at how tall or how short some people really are. Because there is not just the vertical axis but also the width of their shoulders, chest, waist, hips and thighs. And some people have a head that is relatively small or lange, which changes their perceived height considerably! This is why I personally think that the perception of height and vertical line is more important than the numbers on their own, although I do see that height (perceived or not) can 't be ignored.
I agree with you I am from the Germanborder to the Netherlands and I am tall 1,78 but I am not super tall just on the taller side within the normal range. I would still think that I am a natural because of my wide bonestructure, but most of my friends are more curvy and feminine while being tall
This is so helpful. I’m 5’1” and very hourglass. But people often perceive me as more strong- my mom used to say I had a dramatic face and body (she knows nothing of kibbe) but with a very feminine double curve. Theatrical romantic even explains the clothes that suit me- figure fitting and draping fabrics, and why my face doesn’t wear a lot of bright makeup well, and why I can’t pull of boyish looks at all. It’s like a light bulb turned on. And explains why I have been teased for looking vampy- or a femme fatale. I was ashamed of that bc I wasn’t trying to look that way. Now I’m not ashamed! This is my vibe. And I actually look less vampy when I dress FOR my curves than when I try to dress like someone else. 💜
I'm 5'11"...and as proportional as I look in pictures (and yes I do when sitting or standing alone by myself with no one around to compare me to)...there ain't NO WAY I'm a "classic" lol! This is when photos can be a little misleading...because in real life I am super tall! There is no hiding me, and I tower over most people (many men included). I guess what I'm trying to say, is that in real life, it becomes even more apparent how you appear...and also the vibe you create by your size...and it wouldn't make sense for me to try and be something I'm not by saying "well in photos by myself I look maybe like a classic." You know what I mean? That's why I think, Kibbe makes even more sense when people try and think about the impact their presence makes in real life - like...my best friend is literally 4'11" - so we're a foot apart! We have same issues with clothing...lol...anyway...my point is, in person our heights are so obvious, and our impact and the vibe we make (each, alone) is very different...so we would naturally look better when we dress according to that.
I'm 5'10" so I totally feel that towering over people lmao I also have a petite friend about 5'2" and next to her you totally see my vibe, people even say I look "intimidating" because of how tall and broad I look, but alone on a picture I, too, look the same as you described it, balanced and kinda classic (even though you can still notice my broadness it's not as obvious) That phenomenon in picturesI can explain, as an artist I studied basic anatomy and I guess it looks balanced, because in general your legs are as long as your upper body, thats why you may notice, your arms and head have that vertical line, but the rest looks pretty normal and even proportioned
I wish someone would inform moderators and administrators of Kibbe official FB group, even Kibbe himself about the difference between appearance on photos and reality, when you actually see the size of the person and so hyped and prioritized 'vertical line' has no longer any significance. His FB group is managed by mostly petite ladies who tend to have their own blogs and similar content where they literally create an atmosphere of glorification of petite types, especially G's which gives impression that the entire Kibbe system caters to shorter, petite women. I've read in one of those blogs that 5'2'' woman is typed as SD because 'she has long vertical'. Which is rubbish, IMHO, precisely because of real life vs. photo image impression of someone's height and body mass. If you place two SD's by Kibbe side by side, one being 5'2'' and other 5'10'' the difference is so staggering that it's obvious that they can't be the same 'body image type', nor that they should be wearing the same lines. Also, placing all women taller than5'9'' into FN is ridiculous. Just because someone is tall, doesn't mean their body lines, face or vibe/energy fits into this particular type. All top models are not FN's. Simple as that. FN is not only tall, it's sporty, athletic, strong and muscular, it has particular body built which is most similar to swimmer body type - broader shoulders, wider chest/rib cage but not too much flesh/bust on top of it, nor particularly defined waist line. In older system, FN would be most similar to inverted triangle/inverted pyramid. Woman with hourglass figure, waist, bust, hips is not FN no matter how tall she may be. Nor women who are rectangular and dry but not muscular, or broad, or athletic and strong appearing with top heavy body built in general. To my eyes, Brooke Shields, Stephanie of Monaco and Cameron Diaz are examples of FN body image. I don't see that majority of top models fit into this type. What 'moderate' means in 2020 after all? Average height differs from one race/ethnicity to another and has been change constantly through history. Moderate in Asia or South America is not the same as what is considered moderate in North or Eastern Europe, i.e. Average body size and height in 1950's and today can't be compared. Marylin was size 16 at her time and by current sizing her dimensions fit into size 6, more or less. That means that new generations are much taller and bigger than their ancestors. It was unimaginable that a woman wears shoe size bigger than 37, today many girls, even not so tall ones, are size 40+ in European sizing. What's the point of insisting on vertical line when in person, nobody can hide the actual height and size? It's just ridiculous and imposes insecurities on young people. Not even getting into the 'vibe/energy/personality' moment here, which is, to me, the most important for someone's style. You can look like Grace Kellly, if you are punk/rock chic in your soul, if you have D vibe or N vibe, you won't look nor feel good until your appearance is not in harmony with your true self. Is this how majority of supermodels look like? Don't think so. i.pinimg.com/600x315/2d/9c/05/2d9c05feb465a59d29f1851e2f4d719b.jpg BTW, Cindy Crawford here has 50+, two children, is more dry in flesh due to weight lifting, age and has had tummy tuck. i.pinimg.com/originals/c4/d5/5e/c4d55e80d51c9eafb10f946e8ba632ee.jpg
I agree. I love the idea behind this but it definitely leaves out multiple genetic lines, bigger bone structures,.... Based off of Caucasian women in the fashion industry I guess. I don't fit either.
This is off topic but thank you for also putting the height in cm. Whenever I watch videos made by americans they only put the height in inches and I have no idea what they mean 😂
I’m 5’4” and I’ve tried everything that would suit “my height” - romantic, soft natural, gamine, classic etc. - turns out I give the illusion of a long vertical line, meaning I look best in Dramatic lines. Actual height is not a type-changing factor!
Well, I think this is quite strict thinking especially if one considers different ethnicities. For example here in Cambodia the average height is like somewhere between 150-155. And I don't think we have less divertity here when it comes to the types...
I believe it is not a restricted rule to be a certain height to be classified as one specific type. It is a guide for some people that doesn't know which body type they have because they are confused. It is more about how tall you look, there are people who are very short, but they look tall because of their head, arms and legs size. Also, it helps people to understand that is very difficult, for example, to be a flamboyant natural or a dramatic with 5'1".
David said on the internet that a short woman could have a long vertical line so she can be other types that are more average in height, but a tall woman couldnt have a small vertical line so she cant be SG for example
@@cowcat4108 Soft Classics and Soft Naturals can be short too, a lot of them are around 5’2. Even Flamboyant Natural can be shorter (like 5’3 Sarah Jessica Parker), even though it’s rare. Maybe the only type that can’t be short is SD, I have never seen one shorter than moderate height (the shortest SD typed by Kibbe is 5’4 Barbara Streisand)....usually a ‘short SD’ will fit into TR unless her bone structure is very sharp and angular overall and she has a lot of curves and rounded flesh on top...but...then again a short person with angular bones and rounded curves (like Reese Witherspoon) seems much more likely to be SG.
@@lux3370 Can't you see how ridiculous the whole height system is? There are entire continents/races/ethnicity groups who will never have certain height to fit into tallest types. Nor certain features. It's ridiculous. Tall South American or Asian is rather average or even short in North/Eastern Europe. What are 'rounded' eyes in Asia? Or narrow noses in Africa? It's rubbish. What's the point of specific types for petite women if they are going to be placed into taller groups? How tall should vertical line appear in order to place 5'0'' person into tallest groups, like D, SD, FN? What about personal contact where there is no more impressions and appearances, it's pure facts of how tall or big a person really is? How can you dress the same way a woman tall 5'3'' and the one who is 5'11'''? How can they be the same type? It's ridiculous.
Thank you Aly for this video! I am 5'3" and still can't figure out if I am dramatic classic or some type of gamine ... I definitely have some yang, and in pictures I look taller than I actually am, but I am also sure I'm not pure dramatic, and definitely not natural or romantic. I think I tend to look my best wearing what is usually recommended for classics and some of those recommended for gamines (even if not as many: I don't think I look good with the FG type of clothes, especially) while I look terrible with things that usually suit naturals ... So - even if I am still a bit confused - I consider this to be already an achievement. Thanks for all your videos about the Kibbe body types!
Im surprised you didn't mention how you dont have to fall into the correct height to still be that type. I am 5'2 but soft classic. No way am I gamine. But I liked the chart example. It's more about how tall you appear.
honestly, this whole Kibbe body system thing has been a tremendous help in improving my self-body image. For most of my life, ive been desperately chasing after the dramatic types of body; long, lean, straight, and most importantly skinny. Body systems like these have made me realize that weight loss isn't always/is almost never the answer for beauty. Beauty is subjective and just because something doesn't conform to the current trend or what others considers beautiful, that does not make it ugly in itself. I had to remind myself that trends come and go. And who knows, maybe round chubby bodies will someday be the next trend
So glad you're talking about height and lines more! I'm 5'4 but everyone sees me as 5'7 irl because my lines are vertical. And on the contrary, they see me younger than what I am. I wondered if that was normal for a classic or if I was getting it wrong. Thank you for the help.
Same for me. I’m 5’2” and I look taller with long vertical lines. I have a large bust and gain in my bust and stomach first, and I have a narrow waist. I have almond eyes, defined cheeks, and thin lips. Small hands and small feet. I thought I was SG and I’ve been told both FG and SN. So confusing.
Interesting! My mom is a gamine and when we take pictures together you can see we are different, even fashion style, BUT there are genetic similarities in our faces only... Maybe that's where the "looking younger" part comes from, from her, a gamine. As of yet, I always get classic in quizzes. I'm moderate, b cup, 7 1/2 shoe size, I gain weight everywhere equally, nothing is too sharp nor too round. And my style is, as the name suggests, classic haha! Thanks for the feedback. This is a subject that keeps you guessing but I enjoy it 😂
Girl! Thanks so much! Sometimes it's a mess to find an accurate information about how real people should be in kibbe's system. I am from Brasil and having struggled about this and color season too. So, thank you.
Me too! I searched for this video because many people said, that I couldn't be a TR, if I'm 5'7" tall. Should I be a SD now even though Daramatic lines make me look horrible? No way that is true. If I look great in TR and R clothing, my actual height should not matter.
I’m confused whether I am a soft dramatic or a dramatic classic. It’s so hard for me to analyze my own body! Could you maybe do a video where you compare these two types? Theres probably obvious differences that I just never realized, but like I said I have a hard time figuring this out haha
I can‘t definitively help you but... maybe some ideas: Do you think you look a little more like Nina Dobrev (DC) oder Christina Hendricks(SD)? Is your feel a little more ‚womanly‘ and you can ROCK ‚womanly‘ clothing (not just feminine, but more like a sensual woman). (SD) Or is it... a little more sharp. A little more... royal? (DC) Do you notice you shine more because of simple colors? (DC) Or do you shine because of the shape? (SD)
I struggle a lot with this one, the fact is that my body is skinny curvy and my face had some D and E answers. The fact is that soft dramatic is large, bold, exotic. If you had no width and boldness in your body and look skinny curvy you're probably a drmatic classic.
Based on your picture I would guess DC, though it’s hard to tell from one picture. Your face appears more moderate. SD has more exotic features - think like Sophia Loren or Sofia Vergara.
Well, if you're DC, you'll look balanced with just a slight vertical. If you're SD, you'll look tall first, with a lot of curves (S like curves). Also, if you're over 5,7, you're automatically too yang to be a DC. Anyone who is taller than that must be a D, SD ir FN. These are kibbe's own words, from recent times. Hope this helps. You might also look for strickly kibbe for more info :)
Thank you!!!!!!!! This is what I had been waiting for for a long time. It makes sense. There is a range, and that range always respects and takes into consideration the yin/yang balance. You are so good at this!
Please do a video about shoulders only 🤓 , I have Broad ones and Hourglass figure (same mesure hips) . It confuses me , I don’t know if I am a romantic or soft natural.
Yeah! 🤗 🥳 We'll make others envy us for our wide shoulders and our boldness... If you're still struggling with your broad shoulders, just think about how the most beautiful women in the world (who are also Soft/Flamboyant Naturals) have the same width to their shoulders! 😊
Hey Aly ! Love your content, you helped me start my style journey ! For the longest time I did not know what suited me, and even though I'm still slightly confused about my body type, your style advice definitely helped me ! On a side note, I feel like you could advertise your patreon more, at the beginning of your videos :) You're doing great work and I think you deserve the support !
This was a great video, and I totally agree with your statement that at some point the height becomes obvious (@4:25). I am glad you said this as I've seen others say that individuals can look short and be Gamines at any height (even those over 6 feet tall!), and I don't agree. Any person who is over 5'8" looks tall, even if they have a larger head. Some people say Lily Cole and Taylor Swift are Gamines, but they are over 5'10" and 5'11" and no matter what clothes they wear I think they both look very tall, and when in pictures next to Gamines (who have short limbs/lines & gamine features) it becomes obvious how proportionate their limbs and features are (Lily Cole has a more ingenue face, but her body and overall image looks more proportionate and not gamine).
This is pretty cool, I've also been looking at the mixture of me; I'm 6'1 184 CM everything on my body is round and proportuned hourglass shape, but I have high cheekbones and a pronounced sharp collar bone. I love learning about all this, thank you for theses videos
@@heyitslizzybee I think so, but my preference in life is more natural, I only rarely feel up to being stylized soft dramatic, I’m more athletic and laid back like a natural. Is it possible to combine these to be the casual me while still being soft dramatic? A way to combine with a bit of each element that’s still complimentary? :) thanks
I am way too biased to determine which type I am. Depending on which type I idealized at the moment (mostly influenced by actresses from TV series' I watch) my bias kicks in and I don't really manage to be objective (not even the tiniest bit). Is there a possibility for me to send you pictures to get your verdict? I looked at your patreon but the different tires don't have an explanation so I'm not sure if that is a service you offer. (edited)
I believe she's said she doesn't type people anymore :( but maybe you could go on the reddit forum for the Kibbe types! I've seen lots of people asking for help there.
Being 5'8/172cm is a hell. Because by the book, nono you're FN/SD/D!!! Nothing else!! And then there's me saying "I'm 5'8/172cm but I look quite balanced tho, I'm really not all vertical!!" So seeing that example of that model being 5'8/172cm and an official DC? Fills my heart with joy.
Kibbe mostly uses these extreme height cut offs people don’t stray away from their image ID. In his typings he is not as strict with it as he has typed a FG who was 5’8” at one point and the latest romantic reveal is 5’5.5”.
@@elektrakomplexet I really agree. Especially for the sizes one inch above the limit : namely 5'8 haha. Because when you're 5'8 I believe you can still have somewhat of a shorter vertical line because you can still have a head big enough to balance that at least a little bit (because I know that 1- people don't think I'm that tall until I tell them, 2- my head's fucking huge guys). And the usual response I get when I say this online? I'm butthurt because I can only be D/SD/FN. Which isn't false, but why am I butthurt? Because I'm sure I'm not 100% wrong lol Anyway thanks for coming to my TEDTalk NB: And in the end FN fits me quite well so shut up me amirite
I’m 5’8 but SN. I think how tall you look is more important than how tall you are. Over all, height is just one aspect of bone structure and doesn’t account for weight distribution at all.
Madison Aubrey Dawson Actually, in Kibbe actual height is important because at one point you will have vertical. If you have to dress for length you have vertical. Even buying longer jeans than average gives you vertical. Height does account for weight distribution too. The taller you are the more room there will be to distribute weight overall. Someone who is 5’2” will not be able to handle the same weight as someone who’s 5’10”. “Looking shorter” is only applicable when you’re around moderate height or lower.
@@elektrakomplexet the weight thing you said is very true. As I said I’m 172cm/5’8, and around 95kg/209pounds. And though it’s obvious I’m overweight, people tell me I don’t look that heavy. And if I had been a few inches shorter it would have been wayyyyy different
I was always confused as to why David Kibbe typed Rihanna as a Theatrical Romantic. TR’s are usually 5’5 and under, very petite, small hands and feet, yet Rihanna is 5’8, has a long vertical line, has large hands and feet & definitely could be classed as having an “exotic” look, I would say she matches up more with the physical attributes of a Soft Dramatic.
Rihanna actually has very narrow fingers and delicate and small bones. The ONLY element of dramatic she has is her height. And so she is TR. I mean, kibbe typed her himself so... that should tell you what she truly is lol.
I think Kibbe's right. Height alone doesn't decide type and especially when you look at Rihanna's face, she resembles a TR the most. Her hands and feet aren't large relative to her height.
Aphro hmm idk... maybe my eyes still aren’t trained so well with this lol, but when I look at her I definitely see SD? Maybe it is because of her height I see that. And I’m aware Kibbe typed her that lol but I’ve seen some more confusion from other people like on the mens video lots of people commented that they would have typed Elijah Wood a Gamine/Soft Gamine because of his youthful, boyish, features whereas Kibbe typed him a romantic.
Aphro kibbe himself said that celebrities lie about their height (which is true) when he types without meeting them in person it can be incorrect and that if he were to meet the celebrity in real life and they are actually as tall as they say he would simply move them to the appropriate category. So Rihanna could very well not actually be a TR
Hello Aly, I really love your channel and beauty and style wisdom! Please would you consider analysing the actresses Poppy Montgomery and Emily Proctor to discover which Kibbe body types they are? I’m very curious about them and would be so grateful if you could. Thank you so much, Alison xxx
I’m 5’2” and wish I was a gamine. Gamine’s are adorable and can usually pull off more costumey and flamboyant looks. I cannot, however, because I think I’m more of a SC. Even though I’m the right height to be in the G category, I appear taller than I am. Most people guess that I am 5’4”. Plus, my facial features are very balanced, so trying interesting makeup looks and hairstyles usually looks silly on me.
Erica Quint dude I absolutely HATE my big head, short legs, and very childish baby face. I want to be taken seriously, dress masculine and classy, etc., without looking like either an 11 y/o girl or 8 y/o boy. It’s also very frustrating when you want to be tall enough to fit in most clothes😂
Please also make a video about how some people APPEAR taller or shorter than they actually are. For example, Beyonce is romantic but shes 5'7 even though she looks like shes 5'4. And how Rihanna is 5'8 but looks shorter than that. Or how Lucy liu who is 5'2 is a dramatic. Although shes may be a small percentage, the appearance of ones height is just as important as their actual height! Please make a future video on this. And thank you so much for all this information and insight!
Kibbe has said that appearing shorter does not take away your actual physical height. While a short person can dress for a long line a long person will not be able to dress for a short line
I guess Lucy Liu isn't officially a Dramatic by Kibbe (she is one of those who gets listed as if he commented on her, though). I could see her as a DC or something like that more likely. A lot of people find it odd he types Beyonce as R and Rihanna as TR...
Na Na I’m guessing for the same reason it’s easier to appear large when you’re small and hard for large things in general to look small because of all the extra stuff that’s physically there. stylesyntax.com/blog/2020/03/15/height-in-kibbe-2020/
@@nicolesmith4371 But don't small things also lack the literally size/mass? with styling tricks, it is easier for a small person to look bigger but we're just talking about the body itself, w/o the heels, paddings, etc
Wow thanks for dedicating a video to Kibbe and height!! I always thought I was Dramatic because I’m 6’1” but the style and colors for Dramatic never felt like it fit me. Even though I am skinny and have a small chest, I think my body shape is more feminine than typical Dramatic. I have really small feet but long legs and arms, and my face is softer and less angular. I definitely resonate more with Flamboyant Natural! 😊
I wonder.. the mean hight of women in The Netherlands is 5'6 (167cm). I think people here are the tallest. Does that mean there are less romantics in here?
I wondered about that, too. Average height varies quite a bit from country to country or between different ethnic groups. Does that then mean, certain body types are more prevalent there? And that doesn't even touch on the question of populations, where people tend to have a more uniform body type, like the Japanese, for example. Does the Kibbe system even apply to them? I never thought about it before, but it is an interesting question.
No, if your country is taller or shorter than US-standards, the absolute numbers vary. More important is hiw people guess your height vs. what it actually is. I am 1,70 FN, people always guess 1,80.
@@schneeroseful But that doesn't even make sense. I mean, the part about wheather people perceive you as short or tall does, but not the reference to the Kibbe system applying specifically to the USA. The US isn't a country in the sense, say, Norway is a country. With a population that shares (by and large) a similar genetic heritage. It's literally a meltingpot from people from all over the world. So referring to the 'average' height of an American women is a rather meaningless statistic, because it doesn't actually predict the height of the individual women very well. If Kibbe works for American women it should work everywhere...at the very least within Europe.
Rara Avis i think people often overestimate the homogeneity of certain “national” populations to be honest. But even if everyone in one country was 5’i8 or taller I would suspect there’d still be tons of variety. Also Theatrical Romantics at least can be tall. It’d be interesting to see a study of Kibbe type by country, though.
actually it's higher than that lol you guys are at 169 cm as far as I know. Here in Croatia it's about 167 cm, but if you look around you will see women of every height, just like in every other country. Remember, marilyn and beyonce are 168 and 169 cm tall, but are both romantics, while lucy liu is 160 cm tall and a dramatic
Great video! Can you make a video about shorter women who are typed SD, D, FN? I think that would be very helpful to so many of us! BTW: Thank you so much for the grafics! Thanks to the last collage with all the women I think I finally can rule out some types for sure :D
Short women being tallest body image types makes sense only within race/ethnic groups where average height is different than in Western culture, i.e. Northern or Eastern Europe - like South America, parts of Asia, etc and person who would be considered average or petite in Europe is actually perceived as tall in their race/ethnic group/region. Due to average height in those parts of the world, what is considered tall or moderate is rather different, obviously. Local clothes sizing are different as well, I'm sure, however, international sizing for women starts petite sizes from 5'5'' and below, tall sizing from 5'10'' and up. Tall women (by international sizing charts) being placed into most petite types just makes no sense at all - if we are talking about Kibbe system which is based on vertical line/actual height (the two being the same in real life). Nobody tall 5'0'' can look like they are 5'10'' no matter how long their vertical line may be. And once that person is seen in person and compared side by side to actually tall individual - the entire system fails. I love Aly, she is artistic, creative and incredibly inspirational. However, if we are not comparing types by height, than the height is of no importance. That's not Kibbe (all about height or 'appearance of the height - vertical line') than it's body geometry system.
anyone have tips on how to be more body positive? i’m soft natural/natural and i can’t help but feel like it’s the least attractive body type. i look at all the other beautiful body types and i can’t help comparing.. especially my naturally broader shoulders and weight gain in midsection- it seems so not feminine :( aly is so positive but i just struggle with wishing i was a different type. can anyone relate??
Hello, I totally relate, and i always feel less curvy, less glamourours and less sexy, I'm 5.3" N or SN. I consider SN but when I look at the N/SN celebs i feel so good because they are so gorgeous themselves, you can look at Margot robbie, Jennifer lawrance, Aishwarya Rai, Sunny leone, they all are very hot and glamourous. But yes heavy top and midsection fat makes us look unattractive in times, but i try hard to dress according to my lines and trying to improve my wardrobe day by day.
I'm sure you're gorgeous!! Jennifer Aniston is a Natural and she's one of the most beautiful, graceful, sexy women ever. There are sooo many other beautiful Naturals, like J-Law. I'm a TR and I envy Naturals. Tousled hair, not much makeup, and you can look put together. Plus you get all the cozy oversized clothes and an overall cool vibe.
Rahnuma Jahan Teethi thank you!!! I’m glad to know other N/SNs relate :)) I struggled with ED/body dysmorphia, so even now looking at those celebrities I can’t help thinking that even though their faces are gorgeous that they are too broad. but i’m working on it and trying to embrace my body rather than trying to force myself to be something i’m not :)
Kara Stone thank you :)) I agree; I think N/SN can really pull off the laidback look, but sometimes I just want to pull off a really dramatic and glamorous look, and really sexy/tight-fitting clothes just don’t flatter my body. I’m envious of the feminine curves and more delicate bone structure of R types like yourself! it’s so feminine and pretty :)
This was great! I've thought (and the test says) I'm TR, but sometimes I've been wondering if I'm SG. I'm 161 cm and now I can be quite sure I really am TR. Thank you once again, Aly!
Is it possible to be between Natural and Gamine? I am 1,62 of height, and I am usually told I look slightly taller than I am but I also look a lot younger than I am. I don't look "womanly" and usually long lines don't look good on me, a mix of gamine and natural lines look good on me (for example something that cuts at the waist but is relaxed on top) But I can't seem to identify fully with either of them, and I don't think I am classic because I am not symmetrical and "well blended" enough ( I have many C answers in my kibbe test especially in my flesh and bones)
Maybe look at your bone structure. Naturals have a "heavier" more blunt look, we usually are on the broad side and our lines tend to be beveled. If I remember correctly, gamines are a mixture of many different features so since you look good with different types of lines you might actually be one. I am a FN and while sometimes I do wear gamine lines they clearly look odd on me since it destroys the long vertical line
Would flamboyant gamine be a contender? If the "relaxed" short-waisted tops you're describing are more oversized, less fluid/drapey, that could fit in with FG recs for narrow base broken by short-lined oversized elements.
@@cianap.281 I have considered flamboyant gamine before but in the end I always feel like I look good with simpler looks not many details or accessories or over the top colors or hair...so maybe I am more on the natural side? But still I don't think I am that wide, my bones are not large nor big, especially in my arms and hips: I have long narrow arms (never gain weight on them) and narrow hips. I mean I am perpetually confused 😂
@@scartdarcy my bone structure is kind of mixed, but I don't think I look good with the stereotypical Gamine Look (the pixie haircut for example) my hair looks better long and wavy like Natural type hair. Sometimes it's hard to tell because I look slightly wider on top, but not wide enough overall I guess?
when I lost a ton of weight my sister started calling me "the light bulb", because with my body shrinking, my head appeared to be waaaaay bigger. I'm pretty sure I'm soft gamine. I'm 153 cm, 5 feet. I went from 83 kg, 183 lbs, to 49,5 kg, 110 lbs.
Yes, that's why Kibbe doesn't rely too much on height. As Aly said, the most important thing is ying/yang balance, and we can appreciate that within our own ethnicity. For example, I'm Latina, meaning there's a lot of mix there; in my group of friends, there's a girl who's almost the same height as I am (5'2"), but she looks tall and I look petite; she's SN and I am SG.
Now I'm confused again. The test results show me as a Dramatic Classic, but now I hear that at my height (173 cm) I can't be that. I'm definitely NOT a Dramatic, nor a Soft Dramatic; my bones are not big enough for that. And I'm not a Flamboyant Natural, for my hips are wider than my shoulders. On the other hand, Audrey Hepburn was listed as a Flamboyant Gamine, and yet she was very tall... So in the end, it seems Dramatic Classic it is, even though I'm taller than other DC ladies.
I'm the same height as you and I have trouble too 😅 it's hard I think you can still be FN if your hips are wider than your shoulders, it's more about the overall yin/yang balance. That aside, I only have your profile pic to go by, but I agree that at the very least your face looks quite DC. Also, that style from your picture suits you beautifully!
Dramatics' and Soft Dramatics' bones are definitely not big, it's specificaly stated in Kibbe's book that D/SD's silhouette is long and NARROW. It's actually their main difference from Flamboyant Naturals. Both are tall but FNs are tall and wide, D/SDs are tall and narrow. I'm not sure but (if that's your profile picture) your facial features look really lush, plus wider hips... are you sure you're not soft dramatic? But I only see your face so of course I can be wrong
@@Marina_7 thank you, you are very kind! No, I'm sure I'm not a natural of any kind. I looked over pictures of FN ladies and my body looks nothing like that. Or at least I don't see it...
@@goggle2233 Body geometry makes some sense. However, completely ignoring height has no logic whatsoever. She can't type herself correctly and everyone and their aunt she typed is gamine, including 5'11'' women. People with completely different body mass and height can not belong to the same body image. Simple as that. Kibbe makes no sense neither, catering to petite people like himself, his wife and all of his private FB group admins/moderators. What's the point creating a system based on height/vertical line (which is the same in person, there are no illusions of vertical being short or long in personal contact - just blatant, obvious factual height), if you are going to place officially petite women (international petite sizing starts from 5'5'' below) into the tallest types you defined yourself (international tall sizing for women starts from 5'10'' up)? Why not ignoring vertical/height all together, not basing the system on it if it's not relevant. Kibbe is literally based on height and he than contradicts himself by placing petite women into all types and tall women only in 3? How long verical line may appear to make person look like FN being actually 5'2''? It's ridiculous. Both systems are.
My aunt is 1,53m , however she doesn’t have a gamine body at all, she has big breasts, thick thights, big butt, small waist. She’s very “curvy”, and would never be confused with a teenager. Her facial features are more “square”, like Jennifer Anniston. Her shoulders are a little broad and she’s naturally muscular. She’s more like a... “compressed” person rather than a petite person. Her head is kinda small compared to her body. Would she be... soft natural, then? Even being so short? Or she would have to be gamine even if she’s very curvy?

I was thinking of myself as a Theatrical Romantic and the height just confirmed that! 161 cm and hourglass figure with 2 cm wider shoulders than hips. Hooded soft eyes, soft smaller lips and a very sharp nose and wide diamond face cheekbones. Thank you Aly for helping me figure this out!
Technically Dramatics can have short limbs if they are short people. Lana Turner was only 160 cm but she was a pure Dramatic (Kibbe verified). Just like Sarah Jessica Parker is FN and she is 160 cm. I have to say it is kinda funny when we look at Dramatics like Lana Turner (160 cm) vs Romantics like Marylin Monroe (166 cm). If we would put them next to each other we would have a short D and "tall" R even though Marylin had like zero vertical line Lana would still probably look taller. Height is very strict yet can be tricky in Kibbe world. I am glad though you made this video because while I gave example of possibility of "short limbed D", you are right that most likely tall people are going to be in the D category. Majority of D's are going to be most likely tall, very tall or very VERY tall people, not shorties like Lana (even if this is "technically" possible). I really like that you mention vertical lines in your videos more and how important it is, I think it will help a lot of people to better understand their yin & yang balance!
I feel like Kibbe mistyped a lot of celebs! There’s a picture of Hedy Lamar (Kibbe typed TR) next to Lana Turner (Kibbe typed D), and Hedy looked very tall and angular next to Lana, who looked petite and more Yin in comparison. It’s pretty insane. In those pictures where they are next to each other, Hedy looks SD (even her outfit was SD), and Lana looks FG (she rocks large curls and big hair, Dramatics wouldn’t be able to pull that off, since they need sleekness...and something about Lana Turner’s figure reminds me of Lady Gaga or Tina Turner). I just don’t see Lana Turner being D, her vertical line is short, her face looks Yin, and her body proportions look like a lot of FGs. A better example of a short dramatic would be Lucy Liu I think.
I feel that many people here are saying that visual height is more important tan actual height, but I think they're missing the point... Your actual height does matter here, cause then your body does look different. I think sometimes you can feel you look taller or shorter, when you really don't. Is about finding your true body type, not only what you think you look like, cause as you said, mirrors and pictures can look different.
Ferhàna Lammers according to the system yes, I agree, and I know Aly did a video recently explaining the concept. I just feel like Kibbe isn’t routinely exposed to ‘fleshy’ women, and typing is more difficult for those of us who are heavier, particularly with age.
@@velmavlogs7693 I do agree on that. It's harder to type someone when they're heavier. I struggle with typing people who are heavier, but I'm telling you it's not impossible. There is no such thing as being default Romantic just because you are fuller and shorter looking
I am soft classic and I have very curly hair and I don't know how to make it look soft so I would fit me ,I hope if you would make a video for curly hairstyles and body types
I'm surprised to find that 5.7 is considered tall. In my my mind I was average at best and convinced I couldn't possibly be dramatic. But I might well be. While younger I hated having thin arms and bony shoulders. I have definitely moved on from that view.

Yes. We need to see MORE of this!
as I stand here confused about my body type I realize it’s not about fitting perfectly in that little box.
I think long straight hair helps add more visual length to my face
This is like a controversial opinion in the Kibbe community, but I believe visual height matters more than actual height.
Thank you for including the centimeters! :)

Honest opinion;
I think height really can matter in your overall look, however I think it should not be a very prominent factor in Kibbe's system.
@@heyitslizzybee So true! I'm totally Theatrical Romantic, everything fits, but NOPE, because I'm 5'10. TR can't be that tall.

@@magicxspace5406 I am a 5'1'' SN, and I think it is very easy to get confused with the Romantic type, when you are a short SN.
Agree
I'm 5'10" so I totally feel that towering over people lmao
I also have a petite friend about 5'2" and next to her you totally see my vibe, people even say I look "intimidating" because of how tall and broad I look, but alone on a picture I, too, look the same as you described it, balanced and kinda classic (even though you can still notice my broadness it's not as obvious)
That phenomenon in picturesI can explain, as an artist I studied basic anatomy and I guess it looks balanced, because in general your legs are as long as your upper body, thats why you may notice, your arms and head have that vertical line, but the rest looks pretty normal and even proportioned

I agree. I love the idea behind this but it definitely leaves out multiple genetic lines, bigger bone structures,.... Based off of Caucasian women in the fashion industry I guess. I don't fit either.
I'm 6' and my best friend is 4'10" lol it looks like we belong in a cartoon when we walk next to each other 😂
This is off topic but thank you for also putting the height in cm. Whenever I watch videos made by americans they only put the height in inches and I have no idea what they mean 😂
Aly your Pinterest boards for the Body Types is amazing 👏🏻, it´s full of modern, casual ideas/inspiration for the types! Thank you 🌸
I’m 5’4” and I’ve tried everything that would suit “my height” - romantic, soft natural, gamine, classic etc.

Your voice and style of speaking is so beautiful! It's very calming to listen 😊
So glad you're talking about height and lines more! I'm 5'4 but everyone sees me as 5'7 irl because my lines are vertical. And on the contrary, they see me younger than what I am. I wondered if that was normal for a classic or if I was getting it wrong. Thank you for the help.
By the description that you gave, you look more like a FG - younger than you look and vertical lines
Woah!
I agree with @marmor3, it sounds more like FG.
I love your bleached denim jacket! It looks so good on you.
When you are 5’7” (169cm) so you are incredibly confused.
OMG same here! I did the quiz and think I am romantic, however perhaps I’m soft dramatic? I’m not sure 🤔
Am 5'6 and am romantic.
Me too! I searched for this video because many people said, that I couldn't be a TR, if I'm 5'7" tall. Should I be a SD now even though Daramatic lines make me look horrible? No way that is true. If I look great in TR and R clothing, my actual height should not matter.
So true- I took the test a couple times and pretty sure I am a SC but....I’m 5’7” 😏
Same! I fit TR perfectly in every way, except my height. It's very confusing

I love your videos! Video series suggestion: I would enjoy seeing a video about seasonal fashion trends that would look good on each type.
I have been waiting for so long for this video. Thank you so much for doing this video. Your videos remove all the doubts from my mind.
You’re so good at this Aly. I’m still learning :) Thanks for the video.
The background is everything 👌🏻👌🏻❤️
Thank you!!!!!!!!
This is what I had been waiting for for a long time. It makes sense. There is a range, and that range always respects and takes into consideration the yin/yang balance. You are so good at this!
Please do a video about shoulders only 🤓 , I have Broad ones and Hourglass figure (same mesure hips) . It confuses me , I don’t know if I am a romantic or soft natural.
Probably Soft Natural! You belong to the wide shoulders family, come to our side, sis... :D
Adela Setara 😂❤️ thank you. In! I like the style suggestions for this body type.
Yeah! 🤗 🥳 We'll make others envy us for our wide shoulders and our boldness... If you're still struggling with your broad shoulders, just think about how the most beautiful women in the world (who are also Soft/Flamboyant Naturals) have the same width to their shoulders! 😊
Adela Setara , that’s so true 😊
Soft Classic perhaps? You've described me, and I am SC.
Do you fit soft dramatic?
I too asked her about that many times, but she never answered :(
The thing is, you manage to be subjective, not objective.
@@raynatumbeva780 Thank you, I always get them confused
I believe she's said she doesn't type people anymore :( but maybe you could go on the reddit forum for the Kibbe types! I've seen lots of people asking for help there.
@@isidoras.9742 I didn't even know there was a subreddit. Thank you for guiding me I will see if they type people 😊
I needed this. there is so much confusion around this topic.
Being 5'8/172cm is a hell. Because by the book, nono you're FN/SD/D!!! Nothing else!!
And then there's me saying "I'm 5'8/172cm but I look quite balanced tho, I'm really not all vertical!!"
So seeing that example of that model being 5'8/172cm and an official DC?
Because I'm sure I'm not 100% wrong lol
Anyway thanks for coming to my TEDTalk
NB: And in the end FN fits me quite well so shut up me amirite
And if I had been a few inches shorter it would have been wayyyyy different
couldn't take my eyes of your jacket, It's gorgeous✨✨
Ali, great work and very thorough!
So agree with the classics. Thankyou for the video Aly!
This is the part of the kibbe system I don't think works in reality but ah well :')
I'm definitely a soft gamine .. and your videos made me realise it.. Very good videos and full of precious information! ❤️ Thank you.
@@rafesanimalnoises3176 I see SD for Rihanna too...but honestly whatever hahaha
Aphro kibbe himself said that celebrities lie about their height (which is true) when he types without meeting them in person it can be incorrect and that if he were to meet the celebrity in real life and they are actually as tall as they say he would simply move them to the appropriate category. So Rihanna could very well not actually be a TR
I noticed how Cindy Crawford shrank down in her picture next to her husband. Models know how to work it.
This visual is sooo very helpful! 💯✅
The background looks so beautiful!
I love your channel. It is so educational! 😍
I love this series 💖💖💖 learning sooo much

@@nicolesmith4371 how does that work?
@@schneeroseful
But that doesn't even make sense.
Thanks to the last collage with all the women I think I finally can rule out some types for sure :D
and tall gamines!!!
Can you do an underweight Kibbe series?
Please do a "natural vs.dramatic classic" 😍

@@JS-dv9ji I always find TRs so sexy, i mean sometimes all i want is curves and they look so glamours to me ❤

This was great! I've thought (and the test says) I'm TR, but sometimes I've been wondering if I'm SG. I'm 161 cm and now I can be quite sure I really am TR. Thank you once again, Aly!
I'm looking forward to you continuing the " Classic / Natural / Gamine VS otoher "BODY TYPES" " series.
You can be FG in this case.
I think etnic differences should be taken in consideration. Ie I think "regular height" is not the same across every etnicity
Thank you for putting the centimeters.
I'm the same height as you and I have trouble too 😅 it's hard
I think you can still be FN if your hips are wider than your shoulders, it's more about the overall yin/yang balance. That aside, I only have your profile pic to go by, but I agree that at the very least your face looks quite DC. Also, that style from your picture suits you beautifully!
But you are taller only by 1 cm so I don’t think it’s that far.
@@anastasial4537 yeah, I thought so too :)
Aly:Height can narrow down your options
Me: cries in 5'5
Can you make a video about ideal wedding dresses for the body types? Love your videos!!!!
Awesome video
🙏 thank you!! It’s very useful ✨
And my 5'6 ass still be confused about this
J.Annie I’m 5’6” too. This would be a lot easier to work out if I was really tall, or really short!
@@Keapix if only I was 5'5, my typing would be so much easier
I recommend merrian style. She focus on vertical lines rather than height.
Both systems are.
blueice, how would you type Merriam?
These videos are so helpful, please do one on nails for the body types
Very good vídeo!
I think SN.
Great video ❤️

I was thinking of myself as a Theatrical Romantic and the height just confirmed that! 161 cm and hourglass figure with 2 cm wider shoulders than hips. Hooded soft eyes, soft smaller lips and a very sharp nose and wide diamond face cheekbones. Thank you Aly for helping me figure this out!
wow you're reading my mind, few days ago i was looking for this information and watching all your videos to find out
now i don't need to haha ❤
I’m 4”11 and I’m a soft gamine which is pretty true
I've had other people tell me I'm SN, FN, possible DC. I've no idea but it's still helped me dress better for my shape.
David Kibbe says that Beyoncé is a romantic type but she’s 5’7.”
I think with the height it's the easiest way to find your kibbi body type ...Thanks for that video!
I find it interesting that ‘moderate’ is considered around 5’7” when most women I know are
Being fat has nothing to do with being romantic though
Ferhàna Lammers according to the system yes, I agree, and I know Aly did a video recently explaining the concept. I just feel like Kibbe isn’t routinely exposed to ‘fleshy’ women, and typing is more difficult for those of us who are heavier, particularly with age.
Moderate is considered UP TO 5’7 so 5’5 is also moderate
@@velmavlogs7693 I do agree on that. It's harder to type someone when they're heavier. I struggle with typing people who are heavier, but I'm telling you it's not impossible. There is no such thing as being default Romantic just because you are fuller and shorter looking
Thank u Aly 😍 please make a video about men body type heights! Everyone who is agree like this comment 💖
Never really figured what bodytype I am *hehe* Still love to watch your videos
I love your jacket
I am soft classic and I have very curly hair and I don't know how to make it look soft so I would fit me ,I hope if you would make a video for curly hairstyles and body types
I'm surprised to find that 5.7 is considered tall. In my my mind I was average at best and convinced I couldn't possibly be dramatic. But I might well be. While younger I hated having thin arms and bony shoulders. I have definitely moved on from that view.
That video was uploaded 3 days ago but I got the notification only 3 seconds ago. How?!
