Thanks both of you, you are GREAT and I love all your videos. Back to the Opeterra 1,2 m : I fly both Opterra 2M and 1,2 meters. in 3S only. After several tests I have built a very simple bungee with an hand release (no tension directly on the model) , take off flat from grass ground. Tension is 5 times the model weight, hook forward the CG and protected by a small fairing for landing. Absolutely NO PB at all, it is so relax ... SAFE = ON , count 5 : 5 be ready ,4,3 release the bungee, 2,1 engine ON (the Opera is already at 5 m high after a great smooth and elegant, gracious t/off. No risk at all .... it has speed to fly ... and SAFE is there , I switch OFF Safe after T/Off. Both Opterra's 2M and 1,2 fly very very well and are very very easy to pilot for the one who have models experience of course so for you it will be piece of cake !!! . BUT "it needs speed" at T/Off and to be level, otherwise you stall ... Glidings and landings are a great pleasure, mainly the 2M one. Again you are both of you GREAT !!! I love all you videos , thanks so much !!!!!! awaiting seing you flying this Opterra with success ... should you need more infos let me know ...
Pilot Robert, Hand launching is always a 50/50 deal. I gave up and bought a launcher. Even with the launcher, it sometimes is close to disaster. It is hard to beat a landing gear!!! Keep up the good work boys, we love you.
Have you tried another 4 cell to see if the esc only counts 3 again ? Hopefully you can get this in the air. You for sure dont need safe but it would be nice to be able to demonstrate its capabilities to those who are new and could possibly use it. I love the as3x feature though when flying in windy conditions. Thanks for the wideo and keep the faith .... Russ NC/USA
Pilot Robert and Captain Blaz, you guys are an inspiration to us all. Sometimes you crash, your attitude is truly a blessing. Best regards to you and your family's. Have fun.
I've been hand launching from the fuselage pusher planes for years and haven't had to concern myself with prop strikes. So it bemuses me why people worry about it.
Only once is enough my friend. I already have problem with one hand so I really dont want to hurt the second one. I will tell you the truth that even I wasnt thinking about that in the past. I have a few pusher planes and I was launcing them without thinking. But now with just one hand working good I really dont want to screw with this anymore.
I am practicing your last name pronunciation for weeks now for a big shout out video soon..."Pay trent ich?" This channel is my "safe place" where I come to relax and enjoy pure flight and big laughs! Juan- N. California
Dear friend Capt. Robert, I bought the Opterra 2 meters wingspan a few months ago, and still I haven't done my maiden for the same reason, I need a catapult... building one now.. Thank you and Capt. Blaz for your excellent video. Regards, George
I had exact the same experience with my E-flight F27 Evolution this week! LOL . I had successful regular hand launch on the second try. Love your videos. TY
The only way to discover if something will work is to try... it's not a failure. Now you know. And Captain Blaz... man did you make me laugh at the end with that car!! You really are a kid at heart.
Hey this is the point, to test the plane! It shows what cannot be done sometimes too! That is just as useful as finding out the battery time for somebody! And it survived a crash test! So don't be screwed, and a feel a shower coming on! Salute
Salute Captain Robert and Captain Blaz. when you hand launch it throw it HARD and STAIGHT and LEVEL like you are throwing a paper aeroplane, when it is 10 - 15 meters in front then put the power on, trust me I still have a wing from 20 years, when I hand launch it with no motor I throw it hard enough so it glides for 100 meters maybe more, or hard enough so it can do a big circuit with no motor on if that makes sense. it's really easy. you can hold it where the motor is mounted.
Maybe SAFE mode caused you to crash. The plane try’s to level itself right from release and causes it to dip too low above the ground. Maybe if you left it in AS3X it would maintain its pitch on release under full power.
I use every time Safe when I launch my Eflite F27 Evolution and never had issue . Maybe something wrong with the gyro 😱 let update us with new test thanks 🙏 maybe it’s faulty unit I don’t know . Did you test the moving surface ? SAFE on you will have a slight amount of Up Elevators . When you put the plane up it compensates down elevators and Vice Versa .
This reminds me of my hand tosses, glad to see this wonderful entertaining video guys, I can't wait for you guys to do this again. You don't have to use a foldable prop you can use a fixed prop too!
Well, that didn't go as planned. ;-) I don't know about the 1.2m Opterra, but on the 2m Opterra, SAFE mode adjusts the elevator trim to make the plane climb when the throttle is above 51% and fly level (or perhaps descend slowly) when the throttle is below 50%. The up elevator mix is linear from 51% to 100%, so as the throttle is increased, the up trim in the elevator will increase. Therefore, an unassisted takeoff should be made with the throttle near 100%. Better luck next time. Salute from Texas, USA!
I think I'd go thru the ESC programming and make sure it's set correctly. After that, I would remove the prop and run some tests to see what the elevons do in SAFE mode as the throttle stick is moved (and also when you tilt the plane up and down). Also, I now set my throttle cut to -100% instead of -130% as the manual says. I had an ESC magically change its throttle range calibration due to my throttle cut being set to -130%..
Re $99 special you forgot to mention... is this for the used Opterra, slightly damaged on take off, complete with a broken prop model, and shipped from Slovenia????
I'm a few days late but I just saw this video. Check the SAFE instructions again. I think there is a 'panic' mode that brings the plane to straight and level. Regular safe mode only limits pitch and roll. Also maybe the launch just pulled the wing out! All part of the fun, hey!
Never thought to launch it like the Parrot Disco. I launch under throttle, using my finger tips and following through after release. I only use 4S and HV packs at that. It's a wonderful flyer you will love it, durable too.
Just a thought - is one of those pre-connectors causing a drop in voltage? Next time, you will toss harder ... good luck ... plane survived is the main thing
My friends I hope my words, during your visit to Pilot Ryan's live show, about the difficulty in launching this helps to make this 'attempt' a little less bitter, but you're spirits are always up no matter what! You'll enjoy it when you are flying high.
I heard three beeps. So here is the info from the ESC in this plane. (Google efla 1030b manual) Programming Menu 1 - Voltage Cutoff Use this option to set the voltage at which the controller will shut down the motor to prevent damage to your battery when it reaches the cutoff voltage. You will know your battery pack has reached auto cutoff when you hear the motor “pulse” repeatedly. 1. Move the throttle stick to full throttle (>1.7ms) position to make changes to the voltage cutoff programming. a. To select 3-cell low voltage cutoff - You will hear 3 short beeps. Move the throttle stick to center (between 1.4 and 1.6ms). The controller will beep 2 times, indicating you have set the program selection or leave in full throttle for 5 seconds to advance to the next selection. b. To select 4-cell low voltage cutoff - You will hear 4 short beeps. Move the throttle stick to center (between 1.4 and 1.6ms). The controller will beep 2 times, indicating you have set the program selection or leave in full throttle for 5 seconds to advance to the next selection. c. To select 74% cutoff - You will hear 7 short beeps. Move the throttle stick to center (between 1.4 and 1.6ms). The controller will beep 2 times, indicating you have set the program selection or leave in full throttle for 5 seconds to advance to the first selection again. IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT 74% CUTOFF: This option will activate the soft cutoff at 74% of startup voltage or 9.2V, whichever is higher. For example, if your pack measures 16.8 volts at startup, then the soft cut will occur at 12.4 volts. The 74% cutoff option will check the startup voltage every time you plug the battery into the controller, so beware of using partially charged packs, as the system cannot protect your LiPo batteries if you are using the 74% cutoff and connect a partially charged pack. You will know your battery pack has reached soft auto cutoff when you hear the motor “pulse” repeatedly. We recommend you land your model as soon as you hear the motor pulse (indicating the pack voltage has dropped to the cutoff voltage level) to prevent over-discharge of the LiPo battery pack, and to prevent sudden power loss.
That was definitely worth a shot!!! I was really hoping that would have worked. Launching wings is tricky thing sometimes. I believe you just have to really commit and throw it hard like a frisbee. After you do that a few times it just comes natural. I’ve never seen anyone even think about trying the safe select for launching and maybe Eflite will consider making that something they build in to there controller. Launch mode!! Great try brother!!! Big Salute from NC!!!!!
i always use full throttle on hand launches...IT WILL FLY MUCH MUCH BETTER ON 4S. Hand launching steps (listen carefully), 1. TURN YOUR MOTOR SWITCH OFF ON YOUR TRANSMITTER. 2. ADVANCE THE THROTTLE TO FULL POWER. 3. GET THE BEST GRIP ON YOUR PLANE FOR HAND LAUNCHING. 4. TURN ON YOUR MOTOR SWITCH AND THROW THE PLANE. What you see on most hand launching videos is the pilot will have the plane all ready to launch from his hand, and then he will advance the throttle with his mouth!!! With some planes you may be able to throw the plane just before you turn on the motor switch on your transmitter. I almost always turn on the motor switch first and then one half of a second later throw the plane. LET ME KNOW IF THIS HELPS. Now I'm going to the refer and have a small glass of The King of hops...bud...!!!
...always make sure you have enough up elevator and always launch into the wind! Sorry it broke on the first try thank you for sharing guys you guys are funny 👍❤️
so its true what they say some hand toss's are better than others, after all ,you cant always have a good hand toss - lol, But great video as always from the boys in Slovenia , big Salute to you Both , and keep taking care of the hand Pilot Robert, Cheers Guys
Holding at the wings for hand launch, you should be holding at the other side of the wings.. so the wings is not like facing the back or side of you..it will be facing front ..and easier to launch at higher throttle. Another trick for hand launch by wings holding, is to ensure the thrust to be about at least 80% or above thrust that can hold the wings, so test the thrust to lift the wings before launching. Since the thrust shall hold atleast 80% or above lifting power, shall face rhe wings up with about 70-80 degree .. beyond 80 degree is not recommended, it may have accident of the wings flying towards the back if there are strong facing wind. With all these tips, your hand launch of wings would be perfect :-) To add on, Dan's comment is also correct, the SAFE will be too quick to level the wings, before it gain enough aultitle and speed, .. it may noy suitable for hand launch... May be you can try with AS3X for launching..and switch to SAFE once it gained enough altitude/speed. Good luck my friend:-)
Hi, slightly off topic, the FMS EDGE 540 750mm is one kind of speed monster, using the stock electronic with a 3S 1000mah lipo will give perfect CG and a powerful speed and high torque.. I love it.. it can take off from grass ground, almost instantly at 60-70% throttle .. recommended ;-) Just for sharing
I have had this model for over a year and fly 3s 90% of the time on dozens of flights. . The best to launch is at full throttle. The skip plate extends fir you have a little hand protection. The best way to launch is with safe on especially if you sidearm launch. You have to be ready also be it torque in the opposite direction than a front mount
Look at Dis 😍. Pilot Robert I'm sure you will get it flying. Capt Blaz you are crazy keeping me laughing. Got my Brothers fix here in North Carolina. Love you two. ✈️😀💝
I really thought that this will work. I didnt like the sound of the motor but was really hoping that with SAFE this will work. But hey, there is always another day and we will try it again soon.
My friend, I love your videos. And you camera operator seems to have an eye for the obscure. Some advice for you, and your subscribers. When launching such as you did, have the throttle already set in the 3/4 position, on a two way switch (such as 'switch H' on a DX6). The switch can be toggled using the right index finger. The thumb stays on the elevator. The left hand is dedicated to launching the bird. All necessary flight controls are utilized with the right hand. It also helps to add up elevator while launching. Thank you for the great videos.
Was that full throttle, didn′t seem like it... I think with full throttle and a stronger throw it would be ok. Your throw was kinda not a throw at all, almost just holding it up and letting go :)
Hi Robert & Blas, How about this travel release for the safest places to visit....and to fly RC planes: Re news: In its predictions for 2020, the safest countries to travel to are concentrated more heavily in the northern hemisphere. They are Denmark, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Slovenia, Luxembourg and Switzerland. Once you get the Opterra up & away, that is! Regards my friends
i cut my finger on this model, so i use a glove now. no problems. also, i tried throwing the f27 sideways like that, and it fell apart every time. discus launch needs glue or tape to hold the wings on. great flying wing when its going and lots of flight time
I'm telling you Pilot Robert, I have launched this plane many times. It is an excellent glider and it will fly easily with no power. Just have Captian Blaž give it a nice firm hand tossing, and once you know he has released it, you can smoothly go up to full power and fly away. And I have only flown on 3s, so it definitely has enough power. Just remember up elevator as well, the AS3X and SAFE cannot compensate for slow flight nearly as effectively as when it is at flying speed. Throw it like a chuck glider in a free flight competition and I guarantee you'll have plenty of time to add the power.
I think SAFE mode did its job. I think its job is to level the plane, not climb or dive. The SAFE mode did level the plane, but it got no up in the controls. Be quick to pull up Robert!
oh no !! that is the same exact thing that happened to me on my maden with Opterra ,, and it took 2 weeks to get a new propeller ........i hope you get one soon ,,,.or can make something in your shop work and next time be sure to launch into the wind and give full throttle ..

what about the information about getting this plane for 99 bucks as you said pilot robert

you were going to tell how to get this plane for $99 please explain?
Check first comment in the Unboxing video my friend. This baby will be on sale on HorizonHobby on Black friday for 99$.
I had here 100% throttle but I didnt even liked the sound. It sounds very underpowered my friend.
Pilot Robert, did you calibrate the esc because that sounds like half throtle. This kind of planes usually screams at full throtle.
Oh yeah my friend. And not just once. There must be something with the ESC. The sound just isnt right. Maybe I will just change it.
Wonderful!! You guys are such fun.
Thank you.

@@GBLynden If I do say so myself, you're a smart guy. Ha ha. I'm relistening to see if he has the ESC in 3S, 4S, or the 74 percent limit.
I heard three beeps. So here is the info from the ESC in this plane. (Google efla 1030b manual)
Programming Menu 1 - Voltage Cutoff
Use this option to set the voltage at which the controller will shut down
the motor to prevent damage to your battery when it reaches the cutoff
voltage. You will know your battery pack has reached auto cutoff when
you hear the motor “pulse” repeatedly.
1. Move the throttle stick to full throttle (>1.7ms) position to
make changes to the voltage cutoff programming.
a. To select 3-cell low voltage cutoff - You will hear 3 short
beeps. Move the throttle stick to center (between 1.4 and
1.6ms). The controller will beep 2 times, indicating you
have set the program selection or leave in full throttle for
5 seconds to advance to the next selection.
b. To select 4-cell low voltage cutoff - You will hear 4 short
beeps. Move the throttle stick to center (between 1.4 and
1.6ms). The controller will beep 2 times, indicating you
have set the program selection or leave in full throttle for
5 seconds to advance to the next selection.
c. To select 74% cutoff - You will hear 7 short beeps. Move
the throttle stick to center (between 1.4 and 1.6ms). The
controller will beep 2 times, indicating you have set the
program selection or leave in full throttle for 5 seconds to
advance to the first selection again.
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT 74% CUTOFF: This option will activate the soft
cutoff at 74% of startup voltage or 9.2V, whichever is higher. For example,
if your pack measures 16.8 volts at startup, then the soft cut will occur at
12.4 volts. The 74% cutoff option will check the startup voltage every time
you plug the battery into the controller, so beware of using partially charged
packs, as the system cannot protect your LiPo batteries if you are using the
74% cutoff and connect a partially charged pack. You will know your battery
pack has reached soft auto cutoff when you hear the motor “pulse” repeatedly.
We recommend you land your model as soon as you hear the motor pulse
(indicating the pack voltage has dropped to the cutoff voltage level) to prevent
over-discharge of the LiPo battery pack, and to prevent sudden power loss.

To add on, Dan's comment is also correct, the SAFE will be too quick to level the wings, before it gain enough aultitle and speed, .. it may noy suitable for hand launch...
I love it.. it can take off from grass ground, almost instantly at 60-70% throttle .. recommended ;-)
Just for sharing
How many watches do you own captain Blaž?!
A lot my friend ;-)
Robert Petrinčič as many watches as you have planes?😂
I have had this model for over a year and fly 3s 90% of the time on dozens of flights. . The best to launch is at full throttle. The skip plate extends fir you have a little hand protection.
The best way to launch is with safe on especially if you sidearm launch. You have to be ready also be it torque in the opposite direction than a front mount
At least the hand is not busted anymore, hey. I like a bungee to launch this type of plane. You should try it. Salute from Brazil, Captain!
When will you try to fly this plane again? We are all waiting !!!!!!! Great try, you'll get it next time.
As soon as I get new prop and spinner. There wasnt a single one in any store in Europe. But I have found one on Ebay.
@@PetrincicBrosRC ok, cool Robert! We will wait for eBay then.
Look at Dis 😍. Pilot Robert I'm sure you will get it flying. Capt Blaz you are crazy keeping me laughing. Got my Brothers fix here in North Carolina. Love you two. ✈️😀💝
This was unexpected. Try a drak sometime.
Throw the model side arm, but the other way. Similiar to a discus throw. Youll be able to generate more momentum.
Thanks for yet another great video from you guys!
Although the flight was short it was fun to watch. Hope you still had a good shower 😂
do not need 4 cell its a 3 cell plane , and it does fly great with NO SAFE MODE ON and some reflex on elevons
Some times hand tossing can get a little messy. In this instance, the cleanup was not so bad hey !
Oh yeah my friend ;-) Short but sweet this time ;-)
Was that full throttle, didn′t seem like it... I think with full throttle and a stronger throw it would be ok. Your throw was kinda not a throw at all, almost just holding it up and letting go :)
Full throttle my friend. I didnt like the sound from the beginning.
And PULL UP PULL UP !! :)
Good effort Robert! Next time slam that hammer down my friend. Once these wings have lift, they fly great, but not without enough throttle.
Hi Robert & Blas,
How about this travel release for the safest places to visit....and to fly RC planes:
Re news:
In its predictions for 2020, the safest countries to travel to are concentrated more heavily in the northern hemisphere.
They are Denmark, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Slovenia, Luxembourg and Switzerland.
Once you get the Opterra up & away, that is!
Regards my friends
What a fun video to watch!
i cut my finger on this model, so i use a glove now. no problems. also, i tried throwing the f27 sideways like that, and it fell apart every time. discus launch needs glue or tape to hold the wings on. great flying wing when its going and lots of flight time
That was a rough take-off, Pilot Robert... Still, better a rough take-off than no take-off at all! lol Salute, Gentlemen!✌️😄
So surprised that feathering prop broke!
BECAUSE THE MOTOR WAS STILL ON POWER WHEN IT HIT THE GROUND IT DID NOT HAVE A CHANCE TO FOLD BACK.
Like Johnny said it was still rotating when it hited the ground.
@@PetrincicBrosRC Salute!
@@johnnyg3681 salute!
let blush launch it then motor on after a glide
I'm telling you Pilot Robert, I have launched this plane many times. It is an excellent glider and it will fly easily with no power. Just have Captian Blaž give it a nice firm hand tossing, and once you know he has released it, you can smoothly go up to full power and fly away. And I have only flown on 3s, so it definitely has enough power. Just remember up elevator as well, the AS3X and SAFE cannot compensate for slow flight nearly as effectively as when it is at flying speed. Throw it like a chuck glider in a free flight competition and I guarantee you'll have plenty of time to add the power.
Adding fun to whats already fun 👍👍👆
I think SAFE mode did its job. I think its job is to level the plane, not climb or dive. The SAFE mode did level the plane, but it got no up in the controls. Be quick to pull up Robert!
what happened pilot Robert ? 😰
Not much my friend ;-)
salute
Big salute back.
MotionRC/Freewing AL37 please
Would love to have that baby my friend, but I have just bought four discontinued jets. Oh yeah.
Love your content! You make me laugh!
make a launch ramp .safes a lot of money and work .😎😎✈👍
I have one in the box my friend.
What kind of girly man launch was that?
oh no !! that is the same exact thing that happened to me on my maden with Opterra ,, and it took 2 weeks to get a new propeller ........i hope you get one soon ,,,.or can make something in your shop work
and next time be sure to launch into the wind and give full throttle ..
