This isn't a romance trope sepcifically, but I REALLY love the "traitor that is redeemed by sacrificing themselves for the protagonist" trope. Also, for some reason I love giving my characters an older brother, maybe because I never had one but wish I did😂 And I've also definitely used the "overhearing key information" trope before.
The older brother character is a really great combo of supportive, older male family member and best friend. You’ve got some familial bickering, the immature inside jokes and humour, and protectiveness that doesn’t border on possession.
I also do not have any brothers and LOVE older brother characters! I'm the oldest child, I only have one younger sister, but when I was a little girl I often daydreamed about having an older brother in the mix, too. I would now be the middle child and he would be protective of his two younger sisters, give us rides in his cool new car, while still being the annoying, bossy one because, you know, that's just the sibling dynamic :P But there would be camaraderie between us all. In fact, I just realized this right now, my very first fanfic that I posted on my current fanfiction.net account was one of an older brother/ younger sister relationship, and it was a very key theme to the story. I'm just a sucker for them! It's a big reason why I loved Uncharted 4 so much as well. Sam Drake! So yeah! I get what you mean, I never had an older brother but always wished to have one, too.
GANGS, cities at night (neon lights, alleyways, rooftops, penthouses, live-music nightclub scenes), the scenes where a character 'suits up' or gets a new look, break-ins / heists, falling in love with somebody they know they can't trust, and anything set from the 1880s-1950s. 💕
I love my slow burns. One of my favorite series has a slow burn that lasts 3 books before they finally hook up in book 4. I also adore the enemies to lovers, but I also like the rivals to lovers. To me, they are separate things because one implies 'I'd kill you and be okay about it' the other has that childish innocence of 'I'm better than you are, hahaha' about it and I love both of them.
Probably the trope I adore most is childhood friends to lovers or simply just close friends to lovers, I think those are always the sweetest romances because you have two people that are best friends, know each other well, don't have to impress the other (because they have seen both their best and worst), probably have fought a lot but always make up easy--it's just so cute and sweet, I will always melt with it, I especially melt when I see couples like this in real life. Because to be someone's romantic partner, if you can't be friends too, that just doesn't work, so friends to lovers is that much more sweeter since they got that part down pat--they have always loved each other and simply seek to go deeper.
I love that you are so enthusiastic about this. Personally I am a sucker for will they/won't they slow burn stories. Forbidden romance tied into that, bliss.
I like the trope of "leave your horrid family and join my nice one." Snuggling for body heat is okay, but only if it doesn't downplay too much the fact that one party is literally dying, and that is the point of it. If everything is suddenly fine the second they take their clothes off, I can't get into it. I also like it when a romance is set up as a love triangle, but ends with a polyamorous relationship.
Warrior couples is one of my favorites. Fighting side by side, complete trust in their partner, panic when they're separated, fighting twice as hard to get back to them, the joy and relief of finding each other again, post battle taking care of each other's wounds, it seriously is an amazing trope.
I like the trope where they have to fake the romance for reasons (to get out of an arranged marriage with another character they dislike/ don't like as much) and end up actually falling in love later down the line, although they're not supposed to admit it, and they can never truly get close to each other because of it. More romance trope videos would be muchly appreciated!
My favorites are friends to lovers, enemies to friends to lovers, and pretending to date/be married for plot reasons. I also have a soft spot for time travel, like, a character is sent back in time to prevent terrible things (usually in fanfiction), the “oh no there’s only one room available” trope, and I love anytime there’s dancing (usually there’s a confession there of some kind).
I just love characters who don’t get along at all and it’s really unclear whether they have anything towards the other, and the MOMENT they subtly admit these is my favourite.
Epic fantasy tropes are my thing. Gods, knights, sorcery, the fate of the world hanging in the balance, the protagonist who is created from tragedy, an omipresent evil that threatens to seep into our heroes soul and corrupt them, the battles that rage between the forces of good versus evil, the hero who falls into darkness and returns an enemy, the death of characters that we've grown to love that tears the hearts from our chests in agony when they fall, and a world that's survived these cataclismic events to never be the same reguardless of who wins.
When the main character falls for the older sibling. One of my favorite romance movies is Sabrina (not the teenage witch), where she starts off wanting to be romanced by the younger, bad boy, brother, who is basically with a different girl every single night, but ends up falling in love with his older, workaholic brother. This is the plot I have in mind for the romance of my main characters in my current WIP. Also love when the antisocial guy is actually just shy.
Love those little "confessions" of yours, Alexa...😉 My favourite romance tropes: Bodyguard-Scenario, Saving Each Other's Life, Dance of Romance, Witnessing the Love Interest Having a Nightmare...😉
Seconding the buzzfeed quote. As someone that has a stepsister, I really hate that this trope is a thing. While step siblings might not be blood related, that doesn't mean they're not family and it's disrespectful to say so.
I feel I should fairly qualify: in the book in question, they became siblings when they were both past the age of 7 so that's how it got around the Westermarck effect. I've actually only seen it as step-siblings until The Thousandth Floor took it to the next level lol. The key thing w/ the trope is that the parties in question DID NOT GROW UP TOGETHER.
Same for me. Adopted siblings being together is completely based on opinion and all, because biologically, there’s nothing wrong with it. An example where I don’t like it is Barry and Iris from The Flash (not a book, but one of the only adopted sibling examples I can think of) they grew up together, but then he was adopted. They got together after they’ve been siblings for a while and Barry refers to Iris’s dad as « dad » and Joe (dad) calls them both his kids. But obviously, there’s nothing wrong with it. It depends on how it’s written. My best friend is adopted and she didn’t like that relationship, especially since she has a brother. But this trope is purely based on opinions
I love blushing as a trope, which I know is really specific but, as a person who blushes easily, I love when someone is trying to hide their feelings but the blush gives them away! I also love fixation on more regular and specific body parts (this tends to be in more explicit stories) such as hands or noses or necks or ears or the way someone's eyebrows scrunch together when they're confused. I just find this so adorable (and/or hot). I love the trope of someone dying their hair unexpectedly and inadvertently or on purpose making their love interest freak out because they can't handle how good the new colour looks on their crush. Lumped in with this is getting a new outfit that makes their crush suddenly realise how attractive they are (or realise it again). Coffee shop AU's. Need I say more? DANCING!! Dancing is the sexiest thing ever and I just can't even, UGH. Dancing in any capacity in a story is the absolute best! And I think this will be my last one rn, but talking to eachother online without knowing that they know eachother irl. I love dramatic irony, so when two people have crushes on eachother but don't think the other likes them but then are also vent about all of this TO EACHOTHER online without knowing who they're talking to I just can't even.
okay ive thought about it a bit and i think mine are: mutual pining, slow burn romance, enemies to lovers/friends, drunken/drugged/delirious confessions, confessing bc you think youre gonna die, being forced to work together on smth eventho you cant stand each other (usually part of enemies to lovers/friends but oh well), toxic relationships (especially equal opportunity toxicity lol, it can be a big part of will they-wont they), and any type of forbidden romance! and i also quite like it when you dont really know who the love interest is really gonna be, bc that feels very natural and realistic in a lot of cases. just weird, unexpected couples.
I agree with all yours, and I would add Reuniting First Loves as one of my favorite romance tropes. I’m a total sucker for it. Probably stems from my love of Persuasion, tbh. 😁
tropes I love - strangers meet and become lovers - LDR couples meet for the first time - friends to lovers - bad boy meets a broken character and his soft side shows later on as the story continues - love in the midst of war (like soldier and a nurse/medic) - forbidden love (a ghost and a live person or a teacher and a student) - enemies to lovers
The "hurt/comfort" trope. Double points if he's gotten hurt to save/help her. Like, he's all wounded and hurt but trying to brush it off because he doesn't want her to feel bad and she/he's all "You damn, brave fool." and patches him up. I live for that shit.
I AM SUCH TRASH FOR FAKE DATING. I also love secret/forbidden relationships and a new favorite is the character who hates everyone falling for a cinnamon roll.
I'm all for characters hurting their loved ones and then needing to redeem themselves, but the other will always remember what they did and they will always feel guilty for what they've done thing. Jesus, that's amazingly calm and tense in the same time. And it drives me crazy. It's also good if their loved one dies because of them (or they just straight up kill them) and then fall into missery (or not, if not depending on a story it can be even better). Or like if they've been tormenting their loved one for years. I might just have something for not healthy relationships in fiction. Or more like relationship that can never work, trying to work. But just in fiction tho, obviously
I also love trope where the M/C goes back in time for whatever reason and runs into their parents/adult figures in their life, preferably at the same age as the m/c. Extra great if you see every established older character as their younger self.
6:05 I'll bet you loved reading Harry Potter, because the Overhearing Important Info trope is literally EVERYWHERE. That is how Harry gains most of his information.
Alexa, you've made me realize I've been taking my writing way too seriously...In an effort to be a perfectionist, I've found that I'm not enjoying my writing as much as I used to. In fact, at some points I've stopped altogether and I've been having a lot of difficulty getting back into it. To see someone else fangirling over the most adorable tropes in the most adorable way not only made me want to share a cup of tea and also fangirl over tropes with you, but made me realize why I love writing so much. I get so much enjoyment out of cute romantic tropes, and I love sharing that with other people! Thank you so much for sharing content like this, its really made me rethink writing and reminded me why I started it in the first place
Best friends to lovers is my favorite. (Which is my MS at the moment) It is so much fun to play with in writing because they have so much history together. Intimate scenes become both hilarious and awkward as well as sweet and romantic.
Also, can I just say: thank you for making this. I see lots of people complaining about these types of tropes, but everyone has some tropes that they just love not matter how ridiculous they would be irl and I really appreciate you just celebrating loving them :)
I am a huge sucker for post-kiss, pre-relationship pining. Like the kiss is super spontaneous but they don't get to (or don't feel ready to) talk about their feelings yet so they're kinda in this awkward in-between place where they have no idea if they're even in a relationship yet.
I LOVE the "childhood best friends to lovers trope," where either, one of them has unrequited love and the other one is falling for them, or both of them are mutually pining for each other but don't know it because they think it would be weird since they've been friends for like, forever. I'm actually writing one of those right now lol. Oh, I also really like the "accidental kiss." Not where they like, conveniently fall, landing with their lips touching, but I mean where one of them hasn't realized their feelings yet, but the two get caught in a moment where they are staring into each other's eyes, being too close, etc, and they just...lean in without realizing what they're doing, either actually kissing them, or hesitating, then feeling startled with themselves or awkward and running away. Bonus points if while one is trying to run away, the other grabs their arm and pulls them in for another kiss. Oh, and if it's enemies to lovers, it can be both of them leaning in, both equally surprised at themselves and the other person.
The inexperienced one ends up teaching the experienced one how to be a better person, warrior women, body switching, having to hire a gf/bf (not in an escort way), trapped in a broken elevator/turbolift, and when they don't like each other but one gets hurt and the other has to take care of them and then boom love.
my favorite romance trope is when like character A is being mind controlled, possessed, or something and character b snaps them out of it through the power of love.
I really liked the tropes of love to hate and then you love once again I kinda love that types of books. The intensity between characters, their love-hate relationship. I just melt on it.
I absolutely love it when in a friends to lovers scenario, it's super obvious that they are into each other but to shy to really admit it yet and they are kind of awkward about it. That just gives me butterflies.
I think I agree with you on the trapped in the closet trope, trapped in a snowstorm trope, and drunken confessions trope, though I'm not much of a romance fan. Most of my tropes are action-based. I love when characters save each other from danger, especially if it's in a platonic way, such as best friends or new friends. I'm totally there. And going along with your enemies to lovers trope, I love it when enemies become best friends by the end of the story.
Things I'm here for: School AU (not the weird ones): I mainly use these to make ships that would never happen, happen. Chatfics: MMM SO FUNNY Idk what this is called but one character is now a smol and the entire cast has to babysit them: FLUFFY AF ITS ADORABLE Roomates but not romantic: either hated roommates or bro roommates, these are great Injured: when a character is injured and another has to care for them, I love that. I'm writing one into my SSB Schoolfic. And villager is involved (as the one that injures the other character)
I went stargazing on a mountain a few months ago with my best guy friend that everyone thought was my boyfriend. It was so cold up there, but we only wore light long-sleeves in hopes that the 2 blankets we bought would keep us warm. They didn't. He was shaking the whole time so we snuggled more closely than I've ever snuggled with anyone else (other than my mom haha). I kept thinking about romantic book scenes in similar situations but I did and do NOT want romance with him. Reading platonic love makes me feel just as gooey and fluffy inside as romantic.
One of my fav things is the mistletoe scene, especially when it involves two people who don't have any romantic feelings for each other beforehand. And since I pretty much only read HP fanfics, this usually involves a devious charm that's been placed on the mistletoe so that if two people stand under it at the same time, they can't move from that spot until they kiss.... and not a quick chaste little peck either, oh no, it needs to be a passionate kiss! Lol I'm such a sucker for those scenes in stories.
My favorite "sleeping in the same bed" moment was in Dawson's Creek with Joey and Pacey. Probably my favorite Dawson's episode. Forbidden love is definitely a fave of mine too, especially when it's within a small group of friends. Friends to lovers is great too. Love that moment they realize how they feel, or better yet one of them helps them realize how they really feel. Joey and Pacey had this one too. Damn...I need to go watch Dawson's Creek again! lol
I have a story where #9 gets played out pretty well, I think. The MC’s love interest, through plot reasons, has become one of the antagonists, and through more plot, they’re forced together at one point. They both think the other one is asleep, and they’re sleeping together for comfort reasons. It’s actually part of what helps to bring him back eventually, is just the physical contact without physical intimacy
I love the friends to lovers trope, so long as it isn't rushed. I like a slow build up. So stories where the guy or girl has secretly been crushing on their friend the whole time, doesn't fly with me.
I'm an absolute sucker for hurt comfort where a character has a secret and thinks that their friends/family will hate them for it, but then they find out and comfort the person! I know it's oddly specific, but I melt everytime I read it
I adore friends who are soulmates without being sexual or even romantic. I mean the I-would-die-for-you sort of friendships. I don’t know why they get me so hard, but they do. There’s just something pure and golden about them. They’re like found siblings.
My favorites are 1:Slow-Burn 2:Enemies to lovers 3: Angst 4:Hurt/Comfort 5:Stockholm Syndrome 6:Characters who are jealous but won't admit it. 7:Forbidden Romance 8:Sharing a bed
HURT COMFORT esp with some level of intimacy from their inability to do basic tasks from an injury or illness FORCED TO CAMP IN A BARN/ LIE LOW AT A HIDEOUT LOVERS IN A DANGEROUS TIME basically any romantic realisation at the same time as war is declared or whatever
One trope i like falls into a specific sort of "romance at a distance" thing, where two characters meet each other, spend time togther, become friends, and start to really like each other. And then something happens and they have to be seperated for an extended time. So they say their goodbyes, time passes, and then months or years later they hear from each other, or find out they can see each other again. Then they go meet up and running glomp hugs happen and someone starts crying and they realize how much they missed each other and AGH IT KILLS ME EVERY TIME
Similar to the bar trope, the coffeeshop trope. One is a barista, or another guest is spilling the coffee over their clothes and they exchange numbers and a lot of annoyed at first, but kind of cute... XD
Enemies to lovers is always the best. The movie It Happened One Night got me hooked on that and does it perfectly. I love any kind of travel story where the two people are stuck together and fall in love. Bed sharing usually happens lol. Any kind of forbidden love during war times. War romance tropes in general I'm pretty giddy for honestly. The hurt/comfort thing. I love Western romance tropes. I've mostly seen them in movies tbh. But I love all of them. I have a goal to one day write a western of some sort. Usually it's a love/hate relationship between them and lots of dangers and trying to survive. Riding horses, sleeping outside. Love it.
Jeeeeez, there're so many tropes I didn't even know were trooooopes! Of course, as I'm head over heels for most of them, too, I already used some of them in my own baby novel xD
My favourite romance trope is good old secret romance. In the we're-both-trying-to-keep-this-casual-and-quiet-for-reasons sense. It could be the whole forbidden romance thing or it could be enemies-to-lovers or any other reasoning. But I'm here for the down low, has to be kept quiet, high stakes relationship hookup.
I love it when the hero and the villain have a lot of chemistry. I don't mean sexual chemistry (although I wouldn't complain), but when you really love to see the hero and the villain in the same scene.
I looooove all of these tropes haha. And I just realized that one of my favorite series, Turkish for beginners (one of the few good German series) has so many of these tropes, like step siblings, enemies to lovers, party scenes and like the typical bad boy. Honestly this series is gold.
my favourites are always the sad, unrequited ones. i'm not sure if this is a trope, but I really love it when character A really dislikes character B at first, but then they get to know each other better and along the way character A realises they like character B, only to find out that character B doesn't return those feelings
I laughed so many times watching this video because we are so similar! I was really late to the fanfic party. Only discovered those less than a year ago. Feels like I’ve devoured every Harry Potter fanfic since then. I’m surprised how many of these I managed to cram in my first novel lol I love the doing stuff for a bet for mutual gain, or being forced to share a space whether that’s a lift, the last hotel room or a car.
Yes to all of these- I don’t really do the step- or adoptive- siblings, but I do love forbidden romance. And huddling for warmth, and not-intimate-intimate-bed sharing, and enemies to lovers, and trapped in a closet and drunken confessions.
I feel SO understood after watching this video, I just want to hug it out and flail about how much I love fake dating in whatever shape it comes, OH BOY
Throw me in the dumpster with “oh no, we HAVE TO share a bed” as well. Especially if the characters end up cuddling in their sleep. Because it’s impossible to talk to the hotel manager and get a double and also people full-on spoon other people in their sleep all the time. Yep.
This isn't a romance trope but I'm 100% into the "grizzled/jaded/cold warrior type who suddenly has to care for a very smol child and they become absolutely invested in that care and would die for that smol" trope lolol

I was looking for this comment, it's literally the best trope, it's UNMATCHED
I’ve got friends like this, they started dating at 13 and they’re in their 50’s now married with 6 kids.
I love that you are so enthusiastic about this. Personally I am a sucker for will they/won't they slow burn stories. Forbidden romance tied into that, bliss.
Anna Velfman I was waiting for someone to say will they/won’t they! Love it so much. The TENSION!
I like the trope of "leave your horrid family and join my nice one."
Snuggling for body heat is okay, but only if it doesn't downplay too much the fact that one party is literally dying, and that is the point of it.
Ah, drunk confessions and overhearing stuff... I am so guilty of loving cheap plot devices lol
FAKE DATING W/ MUTUAL PINING YAY!!!!
My favourite trope is mentor to lover, it's rare, but I absolutely adore it.
ME TOO
Like Tris and Four in Divergent?
+Nerdy Dragon hell yes!
THIS COMMENT NEEDS MORE LIKES!!!!
+Nerdy Dragon How sad is it that it took me your comment to realize that Mulan has this trope (and I also love it!)
My most hated trope: girl falling for the first unfamiliar guy introduced to the book
SHARING A BED! Yes! It is the best. I just love accidental cuddling lmao.
Star Wars fan by any chance?
@@robinrinsmith Surprisingly not. Sci-Fi doesn't capture me that much... except for Halo, that does for some reason.
I've never related to a comment more in my life
Wheel of Time? (*hopefully)
Stone light archive?? Mistborn?
Omg the "he's all gritty and tough but is soft for ONLY HER" will take me out every time
My god i love how unashamedly fanfiction you are, it warms my heart considering ive been reading it for 16 years. You validate me!
Oooh, dancing. * swoons *
@@oof-rr5nf I know, right...? ;-)
"Yeah, any time you have to say it’s not incest technically… that’s not great, Ryan." -buzzfeed unsolved
Meowser boogara for life
Seconding the buzzfeed quote. As someone that has a stepsister, I really hate that this trope is a thing. While step siblings might not be blood related, that doesn't mean they're not family and it's disrespectful to say so.
Totally agree about the fake dating. CANNOT agree about the adopted siblings romance. 😫 Lol
I love the "trapped in a snow storm" one.
Nothing better than a classic romance trope. Make fun fo them all you want, but there's nothing better than a cheesy romance for me!
okay ive thought about it a bit and i think mine are: mutual pining, slow burn romance, enemies to lovers/friends, drunken/drugged/delirious confessions, confessing bc you think youre gonna die, being forced to work together on smth eventho you cant stand each other (usually part of enemies to lovers/friends but oh well), toxic relationships (especially equal opportunity toxicity lol, it can be a big part of will they-wont they), and any type of forbidden romance!
and i also quite like it when you dont really know who the love interest is really gonna be, bc that feels very natural and realistic in a lot of cases. just weird, unexpected couples.
Also, I'm hurt-comfort TRASH
SAME SGJKGDGJJF
Can anybody enlighten me?
I agree with all yours, and I would add Reuniting First Loves as one of my favorite romance tropes. I’m a total sucker for it. Probably stems from my love of Persuasion, tbh. 😁
tropes I love
- strangers meet and become lovers
- LDR couples meet for the first time
- friends to lovers
- bad boy meets a broken character and his soft side shows later on as the story continues
- love in the midst of war (like soldier and a nurse/medic)
- forbidden love (a ghost and a live person or a teacher and a student)
- enemies to lovers
Enemies-to-lovers in any form is my kryptonite. The trope that will never die! (hopefully) 🏆
The "hurt/comfort" trope. Double points if he's gotten hurt to save/help her. Like, he's all wounded and hurt but trying to brush it off because he doesn't want her to feel bad and she/he's all "You damn, brave fool." and patches him up. I live for that shit.
I’m total TRASH for the enemies to lovers trope❤️
"Secretively sensitive bad guy" DIEGO HARGREEVES
I'm trash for the 'overhearing something important' one. I also love it when one character loves the other, but the other ones isn't interested.
That's also torturous, oh my god. Still nice!
Unrequited love! Yes yEs YES!
Ditto on the unrequited love
Wow, you masochists. I could never!
@@oof-rr5nf Is that a joke
I also love trope where the M/C goes back in time for whatever reason and runs into their parents/adult figures in their life, preferably at the same age as the m/c. Extra great if you see every established older character as their younger self.
6:05 I'll bet you loved reading Harry Potter, because the Overhearing Important Info trope is literally EVERYWHERE. That is how Harry gains most of his information.
I love the “one person is completely head over heels and the other is completely oblivious” I just love it love it love it 💖💖💖💖
Alexa, you've made me realize I've been taking my writing way too seriously...In an effort to be a perfectionist, I've found that I'm not enjoying my writing as much as I used to.
I am a big hurt/comfort trope lover! I do like the huddling for warmth, I do like the UST in romance and all of that! Loved this video!
this is PURE.
The inexperienced one ends up teaching the experienced one how to be a better person, warrior women, body switching, having to hire a gf/bf (not in an escort way), trapped in a broken elevator/turbolift, and when they don't like each other but one gets hurt and the other has to take care of them and then boom love.
Can you please recommend me fanfiction with the last one? I've never read any with that trope and it sounds amazing.
my favorite romance trope is when like character A is being mind controlled, possessed, or something and character b snaps them out of it through the power of love.
Stucky!
So cliché but I love it so much 😭
I really liked the tropes of love to hate and then you love once again I kinda love that types of books. The intensity between characters, their love-hate relationship. I just melt on it.
You actually had one of my faves in your book. When they have to hide together somewhere small and be quiet. The sexual tension!
Things I'm here for:
School AU (not the weird ones): I mainly use these to make ships that would never happen, happen.
Chatfics: MMM SO FUNNY
Idk what this is called but one character is now a smol and the entire cast has to babysit them: FLUFFY AF ITS ADORABLE
Roomates but not romantic: either hated roommates or bro roommates, these are great
Injured: when a character is injured and another has to care for them, I love that.
Oh! Half or more of my favorite tropes definitely probably stemmed from P&P. DARCY FOREVER haha. Loved this!
Forbidden romance! I live for it!
I know it's oddly specific, but I melt everytime I read it
I love fanfic! And this is a very enjoyable youtube content. It's not all the time you get someone talking about fanfic with this much passion.
I adore friends who are soulmates without being sexual or even romantic. I mean the I-would-die-for-you sort of friendships. I don’t know why they get me so hard, but they do. There’s just something pure and golden about them. They’re like found siblings.
My favorites are
1:Slow-Burn
2:Enemies to lovers
3: Angst
4:Hurt/Comfort
5:Stockholm Syndrome
6:Characters who are jealous but won't admit it.
7:Forbidden Romance
8:Sharing a bed
HURT COMFORT esp with some level of intimacy from their inability to do basic tasks from an injury or illness
FORCED TO CAMP IN A BARN/ LIE LOW AT A HIDEOUT
LOVERS IN A DANGEROUS TIME basically any romantic realisation at the same time as war is declared or whatever
The whole step sibling trope is a totally okay thing to be into! I myself like that sort of thing in fiction!
Love it.
Omg YES, #4 is one of my favourites too and OMG is it hard to find!
I'm not usually into romance but the no. 2 often gets me
especially if it's slow burn, no romanticized violence, and dorky fluff feels 👌
Jeeeeez, there're so many tropes I didn't even know were trooooopes! Of course, as I'm head over heels for most of them, too, I already used some of them in my own baby novel xD
My favourite romance trope is good old secret romance. In the we're-both-trying-to-keep-this-casual-and-quiet-for-reasons sense. It could be the whole forbidden romance thing or it could be enemies-to-lovers or any other reasoning. But I'm here for the down low, has to be kept quiet, high stakes relationship hookup.
Alexa
You are a helluva energetic author.
Greatly enjoying your insight.
I love it when the hero and the villain have a lot of chemistry. I don't mean sexual chemistry (although I wouldn't complain), but when you really love to see the hero and the villain in the same scene.
2:48 One of my favorite fanfics features the fake-dating trope, but incorporates the celebrity trope. It’s a great AU.
I am so glad to finally find another human being who likes the enemies to lovers trope.
Such a happy video! We can really feel your excitement pouring out of the screen! :D
I looooove all of these tropes haha. And I just realized that one of my favorite series, Turkish for beginners (one of the few good German series) has so many of these tropes, like step siblings, enemies to lovers, party scenes and like the typical bad boy. Honestly this series is gold.
i love when the strong, brave, war-hardened warrior dude finds a lover and becomes a big softy, its just so cute and adorable 🥺
my favourites are always the sad, unrequited ones. i'm not sure if this is a trope, but I really love it when character A really dislikes character B at first, but then they get to know each other better and along the way character A realises they like character B, only to find out that character B doesn't return those feelings
I laughed so many times watching this video because we are so similar!
I was really late to the fanfic party. Only discovered those less than a year ago. Feels like I’ve devoured every Harry Potter fanfic since then. I’m surprised how many of these I managed to cram in my first novel lol
I love the doing stuff for a bet for mutual gain, or being forced to share a space whether that’s a lift, the last hotel room or a car.
The thing where people sleep at each end of the bed is called top-and-tail-ing
Oh my goodness, when you started to explain number 8... I was thinking "that's what happens in The Saint" and then you mentioned The Saint! Lol
*"It's the Draco... anyone."*
*"Bartender Draco"* you have it bad lolololol
Yes to all of these- I don’t really do the step- or adoptive- siblings, but I do love forbidden romance.
And huddling for warmth, and not-intimate-intimate-bed sharing, and enemies to lovers, and trapped in a closet and drunken confessions.
I feel SO understood after watching this video, I just want to hug it out and flail about how much I love fake dating in whatever shape it comes, OH BOY
ANOTHER VIDEO. I'm so glad you upload so regularly, I'm always starved for new content.
Throw me in the dumpster with “oh no, we HAVE TO share a bed” as well. Especially if the characters end up cuddling in their sleep. Because it’s impossible to talk to the hotel manager and get a double and also people full-on spoon other people in their sleep all the time. Yep.
