I remember teching for Stewart Copeland at the royal festival hall and bill was on the roster, his tech had issues with transport so I ended up taking bills full kit home with me… the excitement got the better of me and I had to set it up in my lounge… out of pure respect I did not hit the kit, it was enough just to gaze lovingly at it… great days, and WHAT A SNARE ♥️
That’s awesome! I had the honor of working with Adrian Belew. He let me play the slit drum used on Discipline ❤️ he also had one of Bill’s snares, tuned perfectly, sounded just like Bill. Ahhh, one of my favorite memories!
This period must have been so LIBERATING in a way for you Bill. Just having fun. Making great music. Hanging out with great people. And strengthening what has always been your roots (in my opinion): Jazz. As many others, I learned of your work through King Crimson and Yes. But seeing you having so much fun here is truly heart warming.
I've been a fan of his drumming since 1971 when I first heard Roundabout. He influenced my playing more than anyone else, but dear God, his mastery of odd time signatures and changes still blows me away. No one equals, IMHO.
Probably my favorite of the Earthworks Mk II compositions. I always marvel at the full sound of Bill’s “solos” and how he doesn’t break a sweat (barring the humidity), which goes to show what you can accomplish with a good setup, lighter strokes…and DECADES of playing to improve!
Brilliant. I saw earthworks at the Buxton pavilions here in the UK a few years back. Bills off beat drumming has always impressed me and those lovely clean rimshots. Seems a lifetime ago when I saw Bill play with the original Yes all those many years ago. Thanks for the video Bill.
Me too, on his last tour with Yes and Rick Wakeman's first. Lifetimes ago indeed. After Bill left Yes and the new drummer was the distinguished Alan White I realized Bill's importance to the band. Such a unique thing to have a jazzy drummer backing a progressive rock band. A fresh, interesting sound that suddenly was gone after Close To The Edge. Alan was (RIP) a really great drummer, and had worked with many famous artists. He could fit in almost anywhere in rock music. But in Yes he was just that: a rock drummer. To me Yes music became more mainstream with his style of drumming. Bill was One Of A Kind!
Wooh! Recuerdo haber visto este show cuando recién comenzaba a estudiar! Será que alguien pudiera tener el show completo? My respects Mr Bruford. You are amazing and that grouping is outstanding!
If memory serves me well, he went over it on an (I think) recent interview, that he was inspired by seeing a timpani player, I think it had to do with something about the center of gravity being kept in the same place while his arms could easily reach for the other drums.
Cowbell are you totally shot or deff. You should still be able to feel the grove through the floor? Man you, give it up if you play anything . really, do your self a favor so you can use the time you still have to do something!

The perfect snare.

That snare. Ever notice that the ring is tuned to a pitch that works well in the song? A minor third up, which works so well on a back beat!
Booh 🤤 .. damn im jealous 🙌😁
thanks--kind of amusing i guess, how Bill had said Keith Moon would 'hit' the drums as opposed to 'playing them'.

Good morning from Buffalo NY. Perfect accompaniment to my breakfast before work.
What a career Bill has had. So many different styles yet he always sounds like Bill Bruford. Fantastic!

Good God, how simply and effortlessly wonderful…what an ensemble!
Such a great night, I was there!
I was at the Modern Drummer Festival performance of this band. Great show!
So much feeling and power coming out from just the wrists. Simply amazing as usual Mr. Bruford.
Outstanding piece Bill...
I was there, it was a beautiful concert and a great pleasure to see Earthworks for the first time in my life. Thanks for the video !!!

More cowbell! Fantastic!
This piece is such a delight!
Brasil ama você, Bill !!!
🇧🇷😊🇧🇷😊🇧🇷😊
Wonderful! What a great crowd too.
Just awesome! One of my all-time favourite tunes from this line-up.
great
Uno de mis bateros favoritos en secundaria ❤ que buenos recuerdos me trae escuchar estas melodias!
Saludos Bill!!! Desde Chile.
The notes here are so precious (in a good way) and add such a lot. And this reading of the piece is just plain lovely.
Have seen Steve Hamilton play with Tommy Smith's Scottish National Jazz Orchestra here in Glasgow. Marvellous player, as demonstrated here !!
i come from guitars but Bill s airy snare sound intrigued me since 'Fragile'
love !Great!
Might that be the Paiste Swish I won in the Bruford gear auction.....?
I love Bill. He's one of those rare drummers who gives the impression that he's travelling at 700mph whilst sitting perfectly still. 🙂
I remember vividly this intense, amazing concert. I wonder if the full concert video is available?
This is great, thank you.
Bill is a genius. There, I said it.
Brilliant Thanks
Fantastic.
I want that china, beautiful sound

Anyone know what Paiste China Bill is whacking? Sounds terrific!
Brillant Bill!
The BEST
Yee Ha! Simply Groovy!
Will this entire show be available? I never had the opportunity to see you live, so this would be the next best thing. Stay healthy and inspired.
Wow...Wow again. New to me.
Great video.
RIP Bruford
Thanks! Is there a HiFi audio recording of this line up?
Bill Bruford’s Earthworks, 1987
Thanks! But I think that's a different line up with Bates and Bellamy? Still a stellar group but I'm keen on the Garland iteration in particular!
The acoustic Earthworks made two studio albums. Both are excellent. "A Part, and Yet Apart" and "Sound of Surprise".
wow
Totally! In the pocket!
💜💙WOW💚💛
Interesting set up Bruford is using here, toms to the sides and all cymbals up front

@@Wizuu0274 Thanks!
I have my drums set up like this. Makes best use of ergonomics.
La imagen de cualquier contrabajista es hipnótica siempre... 🤔
I think I have this LP
..suppose him leaving 'yes' was wasn't a bad move after all...his 1st. solo album{'81(?)} is amazing!
Had he not left Yes, we would have not seen one of King Crimson's finest, or yet finest era.
Ya..more scope to discover
thx
Joshaaaa
👍👍👍!!
bill burfurd’s cover of kenny loggins song “footloose”
Need more cowbell !
Cowbell are you totally shot or deff. You should still be able to feel the grove through the floor? Man you, give it up if you play anything . really, do your self a favor so you can use the time you still have to do something!
Wait a minute.... Two Chicks? No Chicks.
Time to do the Yes grand finale tour.
