  • End the Trek BB90 bottom bracket creaking and boost your performance with BBInfinite Ceramitech bearings. BB90 can be amazing when you do things the BBInfinite way. Let us show you how quiet and fantastic BB90 bottom brackets can be in a few simple steps.
If you've got a Shimano crank in your Trek, this is what you need: ss1.us/a/9ZV7yk1o
If Gxp in your Trek, check this out: ss1.us/a/M7O836x3
Stop listening to the Trek BB90
haters. BB90 can be creek free and spin
like mad when you do it the BBInfinite way, and I'm about to show you how.
The job starts by taking it apart
    and cleaning everything that's going
back. It's critical that the bearing
bores are absolutely grease free or
else the Loctite product will not work. What you need for this is Clean Streak,
perfectly clean rags, and clean hands, and
do each side very thoroughly, until the
rag comes back clean. And don't forget to
de-grease the bearings as well. Now that I
have clean bearings, I can apply the
Loctite to the bearings. Now don't just go
sticking it on here, because if it's
dripping off there's too much. You want
to put very little on here. All right, you
just want enough to do the job, and by
that I mean you're going to just put a
very thin coat all the way around the
bearing before you stick it in the frame
and begin pressing. Now you can use a
q-tip, and you can saturate it, and then
just dab it on, but either way what you're
looking for is you're looking for
a nice even coat that's not dripping. Do
not put any in the bearing bores. All
it's going to do is kind of roll up
behind the bearing as the bearing pushes
in, and you're gonna have a large amount
of Loctite just sitting behind the
bearing. It could get inside the bearing
seal and contaminate it, so like I said,
just put a little in the outside of the
bearing and you'll be fine. Now it's time
to install the bearing. We're going to be
using our BBInfinite Master Tool Press
for this operation. BB90, whether it's
Shimano or GXP, it's best to do one
bearing at a time. Make sure everything
    is centered up...
and the bearing is going in straight. If
it starts to cock at any time during
    the operation, stop immediately, carefully
remove the bearing, reset, and begin your
pressing operation again. It's not just
going to straighten out on its own. Now
this is the part that a lot of people
ask about--the creaking sound as you're
pressing it in. You want to hear that! As
a matter of fact, if you don't hear that,
it's a very bad thing. That's because it
means the tolerances are inadequate to
    light-off the Loctite that we've
supplied, and that means the bearing is
going to fit too loose and it's going to
creak and it could possibly fall out. The
remedy for this is our BBInfinite
Repair Kit for BB90, and what it is
upplied with is a superior Loctite
that'll work for those loose bearings.
This one sounded great, so we're gonna
keep going. Now, if you've got a Shimano
kit you need to go ahead and just put
the other bearing in, but if you have a
GXP kit now is the time to install the
GXP bushing in the non-drive side. Nice
creaking! And just snug it up very
slightly. Now, if you're using one of the
    BBInfinite Repair Kits, you would
leave it just like this because the
bearings would essentially want to fall
out because the fit is so loose, so leave
this in for about 24 hours. If you've got
the regular standard kit you can take it
    out right away
We told you it would spin like mad, and
your Trek BB90 he can do just the same
with a BBInfinite kit. Head on over to
    bbinfinite.com and order one today.

Thank you so much for mentioning the creaking/cracking/popping during installation. My frame popped like crazy putting the bearings in, even though it’s done 20,000km. I would’ve freaked out if I didn’t know it was going to happen.
Since new I’ve had loctite 609 installed thanks to your advice, so it’s still just like new.

Excellent video!! Very clear and concise presentation. As a result of this video I ordered a set of bearings from you for my Trek Domane 5.9. The bottom bracket creaks after just a few hundred miles. So instead of reapplying a heavy dose of grease I'm looking forward to doing it your way with a thorough cleaning of the bottom bracket and the use of the Loctite. I feel like I might finally have a solution to the very frustrating creaking for the first time in two years. Thanks!

I'm having this problem with my madone 5.2 (bb90). I bought it used and after 2.000km i started hearing creaks. Me and the previous owner who is my friend, always go to the very same mechanic, who always use locktite. After those 2.000km i did, we removed the bearings to have a look inside and we noticed that the carbon shell was a little bit loose, which didn't provide a good fit to the bearings. I then sent the frame to a technician specialized in repearing carbon frames, to apply i thin layer of carbon, allowing it to provide a perfect fit to the bearings. Once the job was done, i sent the frame to my mechanic and he installed a pair of brand new bearing, we wanted everything to be new, to avoid any problems. Once he finished the job, i thought this nightmare had an end, but i was wrong. Just 200km after that, it started making creaks again and now i'm hopeless. I don't know what to do :(

Is that bb shell carbon or aluminium? Loctite 609 works for metal-metal surfaces. What about metal-carbon ? My madone has carbon bb shell and bb92 bottom bracket. I have some issue. In my country there is no loctite 609. There is only loctite 603 what i've found. Specs are very similiar. What do you think ?

How can lost tolerances be repaired? My pressfit BB30 bottom bracket never creaked but developed play as if the frame's bottom bracket wore down to larger opening. Fore and aft movement can be felt in the bottom bracket.

    • @BBInfinite

Tolerances can be repaired with a gap-filling anaerobic retaining compound like VibraTite538 or Loctite638. Up to .015" can be bridged easily. It's unlikely you have this much wear. The best thing to do is take apart what you've got and see how the bb that's in it fits. If you can pull it out by hand you've got a problem. Email me at info@bbinfinite.com and we'll start a dialogue back and forth to get down to what's wrong and how to fix it.

I worked a a Trek Superstore as a service manager. The molded pocket BB90 is made with such poor tolerance. There frame bearing pocket varies by 10x the engineered call out for a bearing fit that diameter according to the machinist handbook. Their hole varies by .002”. 😮 And a good fit needs a .0002” +\- . So they just try to get by with glue and band-aids. And the frame is too weak to support the outside ddiameter of full ceramic bearings. The races will break up due to the frame pocket flex. It is lighter...

Do you need the primer before using loctite?

    • @BBInfinite
      @BBInfinite  3 года назад

You can use a loctite style primer or even the park tools primer for retaining compounds. We don't stress about that because the most important thing is to make sure that it's grease and oil free and the best way to do this is to use denatured alcohol and clean it very thoroughly before assembly. But primers are OK we don't I have a problem with people using it.

what BBInfinite BB do I need for my Trek Speed Concept 2018 using a Dub power meter????

    • @BBInfinite
      @BBInfinite  3 года назад

Your 2018 speed concept is BB90, a BB design which uses 6805 (25x37x7) bearings direct-in-frame. It is not possible to run a DUB crank in BB90 due to this constraint. You can only run a Shimano or a Gxp-pattern crank set. Sorry.

Quick fix for a bad design but eventually will fail and wreck the frame. Have no fear though- Trek will give u 20% off on a shiny new Trek!

    • @BBInfinite
      @BBInfinite  5 лет назад +4

It's not a quick fix, although it is quick, as I'm sure the term "quick" was used in the pejorative sense. Although it is easy, and therefor quick, the solution is ongoing. If you Loctite the bearings into the frame from the start, and do the same to subsequent bearings as the years go by, the problem of creaking and bearing socket wear will never occur. It's that simple. Furthermore, the BB90 design is not bad. It is quite excellent in that it's amazingly stiff and by far the lightest possible design. All you have to do is get our kit and use our methods to get the most out of a misunderstood but superb design.

One thing that isn't clear from the instructions is if the wavy washer needs to be installed on the crank with the BB Infinite kit. I'm guessing yes as if it isn't then there's a lot of play in the crank that remains even after torquing in the non drive crank arm.
