Nice one, Sickle. I'm here from PMF. It's always cool to see other people process. I didn't know that you had handmade the ebonite stem on this one, very nice. Churchwarden stems are notoriously hard to get right.
Thank you, I when I first started, I tried using molded stems, but I found the process of machining the tenon precisely too difficult. So I've actually never used a molded stem on a briar pipe, just oak test pipes.
I'm actually a professional woodworker, so the stem work is really the only thing completely new to me in pipe making. I've found that the stem is actually my favorite part of the process!
@@callen886 the stem is ebonite, the white tenon is the delrin. The delrin is a lot more slick and goes in with less friction, so you can make it a lot closer tolerance without it getting stuck

Been watching more and more videos of non-lathe pipe making and it's kind of got me tempted to bust out my dremel and at least buy a pre-drilled piece of briar.

Great job! I was wondering what did you wipe on the bowl befor you used the lighter.
It's leather dye. Alcohol based dyes need to be used because the grain is so tight that water based dyes won't be properly absorbed. You can find it at the Vermont freehand website

Traditionally you stick a pipe cleaner in the airway, and soak the end of it in water to keep from bending the shank.

Is there a reason why you use leatherworking dye on your pipe?
Leather dye is an alcohol dye, and has lower viscosity than water based dyes. Otherwise the dye will not penetrate into the wood.
Most pipe makers use the same type of dye, and you can get it from vermontfreehand.
I recommend a contrast dye of black and mahogany.
How much $
About how long did it take you to make the whole thing?
Takes me about 40 hours of work for one pipe

Hi, what material have you used for the pipe stem?
It's called ebonite or vulcanite, it is a vulcanized rubber (saturated with sulfur). It turns the rubber hard and strong.

Дерево скорее всего Бриар можно разные породы деревьев использовать в инете много интересной информации по этим делам
@@user-pq4gl3zl4m привет смотрел инете конкретного кроме бриара нету кто-то вишня яблони дуб груша говорят даже один из сосны делал сосна я думаю вообще уже 🤦🏽♀️домашний условиях чем можно красит простой способ
@@user-ht6zk2gr4j Ну в основном у кого какое дерево найдется с того и делают я вот их акации делаю её у меня заготовлено на дрова очень много там проблема в том что найдёшь ровный красивый кусок начинаешь его раскалывать, а Там куча трещин которые появились при усыхании древесины смотрю многие делают красивые курительные трубки я вот хочу сделать крупную курительную трубку с длинным мундштуком и табачной камерой размером 25мм и как назло нет перьевого сверла 25мм раньше видел они были в строй магазинах, а Сейчас их больше нет

@@user-ht6zk2gr4j я их не крашу вообще я в Интерне нашел интересный способ защиты, что бы трубка из дерева не гнила и не горела её варят в подсолнечном масле, а Вообще я благодаря сувенирной трубке курить бросил, приехал я к другу в соседнею деревню он ко мне выходит трубкой, пыхтит я ему говорю ты что под старика закосил? Он мне отвечает, а Ты попробуй это тебе не твои сигареты раз за разом курить и правда попробовал что интересно через 3-2 часа только курить захотелось потом нас школьный военком направил нас на обследование в город Херсон ну мы с одноклассниками ходили по рынку сувениры смотрели и вдруг я увидел сувенирные курительные трубки разных размеров купил себе среднею, а Хотел большую с крышкой только на среднею денег и хватило приехал домой мне мой Отец жаль уже покойный умер он от рака желудка говорил ну раз ты курить трубку начал на тебе табак и дал мне банку махорки курил я потом табак начал заканчивать затем в интернете нашел интересную статью старики которые раньше курили табак и его было мало смешивали его с разными лекарственными травами ромашкой зверобоем я естественно попробовал такой способ что интересно вкус более мягкий чем обычный табак и что интересно после этого курить вообще перестало тянуть
