    When I saw "antiquing" I was so excited!! I so love it when you take us along on your trips. I went antiquing myself yesterday. You should have gotten the Tally Ho pillow. When you love something you can always find a place for it to fit in. If it offers contrast, that's great too. I am sitting in my cottage with two English horse and rider prints on my walls. I picked them up years ago when I was in England. They are classics. Thank you for taking us shopping.

    Ah, you were on my old patch. Grew up in Helsby and lived in Kingsley for a while. Lady Heyes didn't exist at the time, which is probably just as well as I'd have likely spent all my salary there!
    I can never resist an antiques shop, a junk shop or a charity shop. My biggest weakness is books (today I'm reading 'West With The Night' - the memoirs of pioneering aviator Beryl Markham - found in a charity shop.
    I think we share an obsession with china and ceramics too!

    The reclamation center was exactly what you would expect. They (I don't know that particular one so am speaking generalities) will try to get to a building that is being demolished and rescue very old pieces. Bricks from specific kilns that had many civil contracts 200 years ago and someone repairing a building needs to replace a few when a brick from a local brickyard is the wrong clay, wrong shape, wrong size and won't do then you would come here to see if they have a few. Also good when building an addition to a brick home. They do usually have antiques, mantles, larger pieces, built ins, sculpture, ceiling medallions and/or tiles, iron fencing (you could see some, up against the back wall on the left). Antiques such as mantles, counters, anything wood, would NOT be in the yard. You wouldn't want them to be. A beautiful counter would be ruined in days, sitting out in the sun, wind and rain. Those would be stored inside of one of their buildings. The building to the left would have held quite a few things.
    I believe that you have mentioned being in New York City and you might be familiar with the Art Deco and the Art Nouveau architecture in some areas of Manhattan, such as the Chrysler Building. They were either demolishing or remodeling one and tossing out some of the features and building sculpture when someone filed suit to save these artifacts. The builder (or owner) did not want to spend the time and take them down properly to safely retrieve them without damage. The gentleman prevailed and he was able to save those items. Beautiful doors and carving, marble, etc. The entire process was halted until the lawsuit was heard and deciaions rendered. If the builder would have granted him access, it would have saved a lot of time, money and headache. But they were saved and such things would often be found in a place like that. And stained glass, as well. Next time, go in! You never know what you will find!

    • @KirstenJoerg
      @KirstenJoerg  3 года назад

      Absolutely, fantastic centre with great things. It just said that there was a separate building with antique furniture but there wasn’t which wasn’t a problem though.

    In the Midwest of America were I live, the antique shops can be the size of a shopping center. We are famous for antiques, because settlers from the east coast traveling to settle the west coast found they had to "dump" their belongings to manage the arduous terrain.
