- A simple tie that only requires a little practice. Once mastered this little grub will do well fishing pocket water and Euro nymphing for both trout and grayling. The Nymph skin can be substituted with latex and regular rubber bands if you source the correct type. Tie them in any colour and size, they also work extremely well in pink, orange, grey... Thanks Barry for a fine Maggot pattern....
You're very welcome Gary.
Hey Barry, i love the pattern and of course this most authentic intro for the new range of Mustad Fly Hooks! Your voice fits like nothing else and sounds like the absolute truth for us fly tyers and fly fishers!!! Outstanding!
Thanks for that! Greetings from Germany Jay
Awesome, thank you Jay!
Really enjoyed this video lesson especially after reading the blog
Glad you enjoyed it Jimmy!
Awesome tie Barry! I agree with the rest of the comments that the intro was amazing!!! I'm definitely going to have to give this one a shot. I may even try to size it up for a crane fly larva imitation, buy will probably opt for a straighter shank hook. Thanks for the video and keep em' coming! Cheers from Colorado!
Thanks Sean, good luck with it.
They also work wonderful for ice fishing, love them, cut gloves work well also
I bet they do Jeff!
Very good narration skills also!
Thank you, congrats!
Thank you very much Gustavo!

Thank you Richard.
That sure looks realistic to me. Thanks, Barry.
Thanks James.
That was really good, thanks👍
Glad you liked it Jim!
Thank you Barry the body is tremendous, i'm new to tying for trout...this is very similar to your Antron Caddis pupa, with the antron "cord ing" technique... great as well
Thanks Alan, yes a similar pattern, different technique.
Baroness hooks? No wonder the smart one got away.
Ain't that the truth!
how many years have you been fly tying and fly fishing?
nearly 40!
hello, from a very, very soggy Northen California..no fishing for almost 3 months as the rivers are running from a normal 2000 / 3000 cfs.. now running above 20000 to 40000 cfs// its a lot of water.. well a question..do you know of way to thin out a uv resin? i have asked and looked around to find no idea if it can be done.. thought you might have an idea.. thank you for any answer
Thanks for the info! Sorry Randell, I have no idea, but you can buy UV resin in different viscosities!
Randell, I usually warm up my thicker UV to thin it out a bit. It works well on the Loon and Solarez thick resins. The Solarez states that you can put the bottle in the microwave for a bit to thin it out, but I don't really like the thought of that so I just put some warm/hot water in a shallow dish on my bench and let the bottle sit in it for a few minutes. I've even gone as far as putting the UV bottle in my pocket while I'm tying and then take it out when I'm ready to use it. Hope that helps!
👍👍👍
Thanks.
That’s great. Could a rubber band be used in lieu of nymph skin?
Thanks
Never mind. Tied with a rubber band and looks just fine. Prob lose it before it unravels so all good. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, absolutely if it's the right thickness.
Great. But without wire it is enough
Thanks, yes it's enough...
Does covering the grub with brushcoat prevent the latex from degradation which otherwise it does eventually ?
Hi David, it helps, but no matter, latex and rubber are what they are. It's a good job they are so cheap and quick to tie...
Are these hooks available in UK yet?
Hi Alan, if not now they will be soon. If you click the link in the text above it should take you to your nearest dealer.
