Staff, faculty, admin...I sought help, and nobody gave half a shit...couldn't be bothered. Lot of blank stares and empty "boys-will-be-boys" platitudes. One of them-- the Vice Principal, I think-- suggested something to the effect that I should just ignore/avoid them as best as possible, and try not to "encourage" them. That was about 35 years ago, and it still bothers the hell out of me to think about it. I'm sitting there, dumbfounded, thinking *"Does this air-headed bitch think I'm walking up to them and saying 'Hey, fellas: do you think my head will fit inside that? I'm not sure, and it's driving me nuts!'"* At some point I got to be friends with a dude who was a competitive martial arts phenom. We started working out together, and not long after I solicited his help in learning how to defend myself. Skip ahead, skip ahead: some months later, one of my main antagonists was walking by as I was "dressing out" for Phys Ed class, and as he did, he smacked a locker door so as to make it hit my head, and in the most mockingly sarcastic tone possible, said something like "Whoops! Sorry! HUhuhuhuh!!" I grabbed him, spun him around, gut-punched him, and with two hands on his neck (my technique was not nearly as polished as it one day would be, but the rage coursing through me made up for it just fine) jacked him up against a row of lockers so his feet barely touched the floor, and told him that next time, *"I'll rip your fucking balls off and shove them down your fucking throat!!!"* I'm not a particularly violent fellow by nature; I'm pretty good at applying it in varying ways, but I prefer not to. All the same, the look of shock, fear, and bewilderment in his eyes was like 10 Christmases at once. He had the look of a man staring his own death in the face. It was at **THAT** point the grown-ups got all conscientious and swung into action, dragging me and the still-bewildered douchebag into the main office so they could wag their fingers and scold us, repeating the same stupid-assed question about whether or not we were aware of the schools' "Zero Tolerance" policy for fighting over and over, and threatening to call the 'rents in for a confab about my violent behavior, maybe a brief suspension, or both. It's not to clear to me now how it went from there, but I think I managed to impress upon them that if I was to be formally disciplined, that basic fairness and a desire to serve my own best interests would demand I bring up a detailed litany of the kind of shit I was putting up with on about a daily basis, my requests for help, and the absolute fuck-all they did about it. Whatever the case, it was not pursued further, and I got over. Beyond that: my troubles with the assortment of douchebags who'd made a habit of screwing with me quickly dropped to about "nil." In retrospect, I sometimes think they did me a favor; at some point, something had to be done, and clearly the only person willing to do it would be me. It many respects, it became a jumping-off point for a lot of positive changes in the following years.

While it was sad to see Beecher become completely consumed by the system, it was actually kind of a relief when he finally embraced his total psycho side and fought back. This and the time he literally shit in Shillinger's face is probably my favorite scenes in the show

Alternative ending. Schillinger survives the stabbing, reforms himself and becomes a music teacher at a university and before long ends up living out his revenge fantasy by throwing a chair at a student who reminded him of Beecher.

Beecher is kind of the "everyman" of the show, most of us can connect to him the most, the normally good guy who made a bad decision and feels out of his place, the kinda nerdy guy being bullied at school basically
This was a good show but parts like this made no sense. What sane architect would decide "Let's construct prison cells with non-tempered glass walls that can be easily shattered with a plastic chair."? Also if those glass walls are so easily broken then why was this the only time it happened in the whole series?

The glass is one of McManus experiments. McManus treats the prisoners like ordnairy people, and putting glass (that can resemble as office or something) instead of humaliting bars is one of those experiments
They say that about if you have 2-3 years left in prison they should move you somewhere else to prepare for release.

Beecher is kind of the "everyman" of the show, most of us can connect to him the most, the normally good guy who made a bad decision and feels out of his place, the kinda nerdy guy being bullied at school basically

This was a good show but parts like this made no sense. What sane architect would decide "Let's construct prison cells with non-tempered glass walls that can be easily shattered with a plastic chair."? Also if those glass walls are so easily broken then why was this the only time it happened in the whole series?

This show along with the sopranos and the Wire are some of the best writing I’ve seen.
Seasons 1-5 the storyline, plot and acting was exceptional!!season 6 was terrible when they brought in the tv crew interviewing all the prisoners.

O'Reily just like so many of the others just wanted to see someone do something crazy. He knew all that 'could' happen and this was one of them. He couldn't have been happier with the outcome. He's the man. Probably the baddest dude in oz because his brain was like a computer.

Schillinger deserves it. At least Beecher didn't deviate from the plan to get back at Schillinger, for being treated like crap due to the PCP given by O'Reilly. Tobias was deceptively tough for the next several episodes, until Keller showed up and humbled him back to his old self.
Yeah, Keller got him all mushy, but I gotta admit I loved that sick manipulative bastard :D In that matter, Keller was similar to O'Reilly, it's fascinating how easily they both could wrap people around their fingers. When he first arrived and he and Beecher exchanged these looks and all, I remember thinking "oh Christ, so we're gonna get a prison lovestory now?" And then when I realized a) he was in cahoots with the aryans and b), their plan worked flawlessly, I instantly knew that he was gonna be one of my favourite characters.
Nice scene; but glass in a prison is usually shatter proof.
