wow that fugue is really melodramatic, like very melancholic and gives a bit of an uneasy feeling which is really what I love so much about bach. The depth and the many intricacies of his pieces are perfectly splendid.
I like to hit the clashing notes in the bass at the end of the second section of the prelude really hard, I love it when Bach uses minor and major 2nds!
Great rendition, the prelude here is my favorite of all the works from the WTC books. I spotted a tiny little mistake towards the end, though, that I've seen printed many places (although the score displayed here shows the correct version): you missed the E-sharp going back to an E-natural at the end of bar 49 (at approximately 2:58); it's easy to miss, due to how the previous two iterations don't have this, but the chromatic movement here really drives home the conclusion of the piece.
I may prefer the sound of the clavichord [Ralph KirkPatrick], but the format of this video is excellent for those who want to tackle the 48 themselves.
I enjoyed it! It's an amazing work! My comment is not to criticize, but to inform him because he may not be aware of this alteration. I am also a pianist and I have the same problem (deciphering errors), especially with Bach ( lot of chromaticism and mass of notes in counterpoint..), and I prefer to be noticed to avoid reproducing the wrong note(s) in the future :-) (imagine a concert!). Otherwise, congratulations Paul, you took me high with your interpretation!
Nevertheless, the musicians I know try to play the right notes whenever possible, and if for some reason they have misread the score and are playing a wrong note, they generally want to know. It is in this spirit that I point out that all the scores and performances of this Prelude I've ever encountered (including the score in this video) have an E-sharp in the left hand in m. 6 and a B-sharp in the corresponding spot in m. 22, and I find it odd (and wrong-sounding) that Paul plays these as naturals.
Also, in the second bar of 2:58 you play “E F#” in the first chord of the left hand, instead of “D# E”, both the first time and the repetition. But I love your way of playing in all the videos that I watch! Big Congratulations!
Paul how about Waldstein written by Beethoven? play this for us pls or even make a tutorial ! i love your chopin ballade 1 tutorial it hepled me allot. comon fellas like the post !
Do you mean the very first from WTC1 in C major? Or c minor? Or the WTC2 pieces? And by the way, since Paul is not singing them, they are not songs. They are pieces. Musical pieces.
Lol a classical music newbie appears to show their appreciation and the pedants arrive to whine about the specifics, when really we all know which prelude in C she means.
You need a lot of training :) And before learning Bach, you need to train easy pieces. To play Bach well you should have a musical training of >1000 hours in your life. If you are very talented
andy1981b not necessarily true if you put the work in you can do it in much less I’ve only played piano for 2 years and I got prelude no 1, 2 and 17 from the first book and fugue 12, from book 2 perfected
@@floridamansgarage8629 Florida, do you have records of you playing them ? =) Just curious as I am a begginer Piano player. I have started with the first 2 preludes 9 months ago and I am still perfecting them. I am also trying prelude 10.
i have completed one and a half page of the fugue and it has taken me about 3 weeks, I work a full time job so its like 1 hour a day of practicing and more during the weekends
Prelude, measure 32, right hand, beat 4, should be G# & D#, not A# & D#. Fugue, measure 44, right hand, beat 5, B#, not B. Measure 89, right hand, beat 2, looks like you play a B, but I hear A#. Measure 113, right hand, looks like you play A & D#, but I hear G & D#. 131, LH, beat 3, Cx, not C#.
Maybe he's playing an edited version, maybe by Carl Czerny or another transposer/composer. His piano may have been out of tune slightly. I don't know. :)

thats exactly how i feel when listening to it too!
I love Bach, I need to learn more of it. You are such an inspiration!
Thanks, Roxann, glad you like Bach too.
Listening to Bach's music makes me feel relax😌
So You don't understand Bach
@@Samuel-hr9cu A little harsh but true. :Ρ
Listening to Bach with a score makes me feel smarter
You don't understand Bach. You should go back to listening to your crappy, chord rattling, whiny-voice pop music.

Bach es sereno, tranquilizador, en algunas de sus obras...es calmante, aporta la armonia para calmar ánimos...¡Gracias!!!!
Absolute pure beauty of Bach
Thanks for all the good you have done to my music :D
The solemn grandeur of the fugue contrasts nicely with the rather lighthearted brio of the prelude.
An absolute pleasure with harmonic pedal, thanks !
Very good! Variety is the spice of life.

Здорово! И Бах, и его исполнение!
Lovely articulation and your flair came out in it.
beautifully playing

Little remark : at 6:01, B is sharp and not natural :)

hey, Easy Pete! thanks for the request. I will record some of the Beethoven Sonatas after I finished the WTC. The scores are on the piano :)
@@PaulBartonPiano that's good, the old testament of music and the new one

Beautiful!
Hey Paul, love you!
Usman 001 why do you say love you? Do you mean you love his music? Just a little weird.

Bellissimo....
Awesome
Why you play E sharp at the second voice (alt), bars 19 & 20? I never found that in any edition... But I love your play!
How long does it take to learn a piece like this time wise?
You need a lot of training :) And before learning Bach, you need to train easy pieces. To play Bach well you should have a musical training of >1000 hours in your life. If you are very talented

Бах - это всегда по немецки! Как то прям звезда мэрсэдаса прям сияет! Ну как-бы глаза не закрывал, всегда"S" класса и всё тут!

Hello.Measure number 6, F sharp C sharp, F sharp C sharp, then E SHARP C sharp, E SHARP C sharp. Is that voluntary?
It might just be a short excursion to the Dorian mode.

I just wanted to say he plays E instead of E sharp

Au deuxième temps de la sixième mesure, les mi de la main gauche auraient dûs être dièses.
Nice
🔥
You play the fugue so slowly and uniformly it sounds like the meter is 1/1 (one note per bar) instead of 6/8.
