Wenwu aka Shang Chi’s dad had such a tragic life/death. Imagine, finally finding true happiness, TRUE LOVE, and having family. He literally walked away from his crime syndicate, the power, and the actual 10 rings to just be a normal loving husband and father. He was finally turning his life around and yet his bad deed/past really caught up to him in tenfold. I noticed a lot of reactors were confused as to why Wenwu did not have any guards protecting his family. But remember he walked away from all of it, meaning his guards/henchmen left too. Unfortunately, his wife had to lose her life due his past and Wenwu was understandably angry. He went on a revenge rage, but I’m sure he’s always feeling extreme guilt. Upon that, he went back into his bad ways which he knew his wife would NOT approve especially training their own son to become an assassin. Then he managed to push away and isolate his own daughter by ignoring her and not include her in training. Luckily, Shang-Chi did not like the path his father is on and refused to work by his side. Which is sad because all they wanted was their FATHER…they were all grieving tbh. Instead of dealing with as a family, they went their separate ways. 🥺
But Wenwu did have that little redemption and yes…his greatest desire was to have his wife and have his family together again. He did horrible things in the past, it cannot be excused..he was not a good man. However, he did change for the better and again…he was valid in becoming unhinged after losing the love of his life. You saw the way he was fighting with himself mentally to either believe what his son was telling him or the soul eaters. Then when the dweller of darkness showed itself to him, he realized he was tricked and was terribly wrong. He managed to save his son and had that little moment of vulnerability and real feelings with Shang Chi. He truly did love his children and he literally sacrificed himself and gave his rings to Shang Chi. He knew his son would be able to use them for good this time and not go on the same path as him. That look and little smile he shared with Shang Chi before his soul left his body. IM…. Give it up to Mr. Tony Leung! His eyes man…he tells so much through his eyes, such an amazing actor!

Shang Chi is probably the best thing done by the MCU. To realize as an old comic reader from where it was in the 70s to now on the big screen this was an amazing update to a good Marvel character. They took out most of the cultural insensitivity from the 70s comics to making it a serious character in both Marvel comics and the MCU. It really grew up and wow this movies was great. Also welcome to the Wong Cinematic Universe. You will be seeing him more.

What I like about the fighting styles is that he uses all the style his mom, his aunt, and his dad taught him. He used what his mom taught him to control the rings and copied the move his dad did against him just a bit earlier, making the rings burst out from beneath, and combined them to destroy the Dweller in Darkness.

It was very interesting seeing multiple movies come out with the common theme of "parental figures who made terrible choices raising their children and how they realize it, learn how to apologize, make it up to their families, or grow into a better person" between Shang-Chi, Coco, Encanto, even shows like Arcane within the same few years, but portrayed within different cultures. You can tell these movies are very much made for the generation who grew up feeling that sort of resentment, love-hate for their parents/grandparents and tbh it's been a loooooooooong time coming. I think these movies have been a great way to open that conversation. Shang-Chi is so damn hype though, and the MUSIC???? BANGERS!

You should check out the soundtrack for this film. Record label 88 Rising brought a number of their musicians together for this album, and half of the songs made their way into the final film.
And the story about Ta Lo was also published in a childrens' book that's tied to this movie. It's called "Who Guards My Sleep?"
Some behind the scenes trivia: Andy Le who portrays Death Dealer (the guy in the white mask) was also Simu Liu's personal trainer. The two of them started practicing the fight choreography months ahead of filming.
Also, when Simu's parents would call him, it wasn't to check up on him but rather they wanted to know if he got to work with Tony Leung that day.

This movie was so damn good. One of the very few movies I'd rate a solid 9/10. Really my only complaint is that Shang-Chi and Katy aren't a couple (and their actors don't really see them that way) because their chemistry is just so damn good and I really didn't like Xialing taking over the Ten Rings. I really felt like her experiences in Ta Lo helped her to let go of her resentment, but I guess not. However, I do like the symbolism. Shang-Chi gets the physical ten rings, Xialing gets the organization the Ten Rings. Clever.

Wenwu is one of the best villains in MCU!!! When he get caught by "soul sucking monster" and realised that is not his wife, he did not see any reason to live further... omg, and that last flashbacks with scenes with his son...😢

Ngl, growing up with Jackie Chan films, this film is one of the best Marvel has made imo. The fights are some of the best choreography Ive seen in a while. The protagonist is anything but one dimensional and the antagonist is just as complex if not more🔥

rico and monica , out here in throughout California they're buses that are like the 1 in the bus fighting scene and they are made like that to help turn corners better for the bus plus they're longer to hold more people

My guy you don’t have to announce every time you’re going to see if there’s end credit scenes. Just edit right to them then talk about the movie after you’ve seen everything.

Another heart-breaking fact about the dad.....He could not have his soul released until he gave up the rings.....at that moment he willingly gave up the rings to Shang-Chi cause he felt guilty and believed his son can do better than him.
The movie speaks to Asian children or Asia as a whole much more.......parents expect so much from the kids and sometimes that burden is too much to handle for children. Their goals are set so high and they are never happy with whatever they achieve even after their parents are gone.
There is depth here in addition to one of the best CGI and action sequence in Marvel Phase 4... tough to top this
