I've heard a lot of great bands perform on KEXP (their sound engineering is absolute top tier), but this has to be the best thing I've ever heard from one of their sessions. For me this is the definitive version of this track. Genuinely better than the album version. Awesome stuff.
I believe Mogwai are the most important band to come out of the 90's.
Along with Pearl Jam.

Dominic’s bass lines that just weave in between everything…such a huge part of Mogwai’s sound. God, I love this band!
That opening is so evocative and stirring. Simply sublime. No other band knows how to build up a song like Mogwai.

Yeah man, I was front row for them once and it was so loud I had to put my hands over my ears...cause my entire body was shaking. Crazy volume!

The bald guitarist with a cap is wearing a "The Cure" tee shirt. Robert Smith once stated that Mogwai was one of his best bands !

The cure took Mogwai on their Curiosa tour back in the day as well.
The headlining bands were The Cure, Interpol, The Rapture, and Mogwai.

I remembrrer watched them live in amsterdam, in a tiny club(?) the melkweg, back in '01. Kept the piece of paper that the playlist was written on,
left my ears on the floor when i left.
By far the loudest thing i ve ever heard, proper ear damage!

I make sure I see them every time they play near me. They are sooooooooooooooo worth it. Seeing "I'm Jim Morrison, I'm Dead" live is a special experience. I can't really describe it, but that song is just something else live. The whole crowd becomes completely mesmerized. It's magic.

Are there triggers on that snare drum?!
During the beginning she's not hitting the snare, but electronic pads, I believe.
For sure, that part is clear. But I'm noticing that every snare sound when she moves to the kit is pretty much the same sound/volume regardless of impact. It also could very well be the sound mixing/editing in post.
or she's a really good drummer....
edit : i mean the more eaven her snare strokes are, the less they need to use some kind of compressor (or something else) in post prod
Totally, and that may be. I'm a drummer so I just noticed how even everything was in spite of what her hits looked like visually, it might just be a simple post edit, which is fine.
i tried to look at what you said (her snare strokes) and they didn't look that uneven to me... i'll try to take a look again! :D
but it brings another question : WHERE THE Fµck is Martin Bulloch???
