Insurance is going to be the nail in the coffin here. I’ve been in FL the last 22 years (total of about 28 years counting my prior time) for work and really want to retire elsewhere.

I’m going to say the last hurricane had something to do with it. 👋

🤦🏽‍♂️ Why do outsiders think Hurricanes are A. A every year occurrence in Florida (There NOT. We only get em like once every 4-5 years. And most of them that hit Florida are no different than a typical rainy/stormy day) and B. Scary. Unless if you’re not on the coast, Hurricanes is nothing smh 🤦🏽‍♂️. We only had 3 Major Hurricanes since 2000 ( Charlie in 04, Irma in 17, Ian this year). It’s NOT a every year, all year round occurrence like outsiders FOR WHAT REASON i have no idea believe 🤦🏽‍♂️

WEST PALM BEACH IS ALL DRUGS AND CRIME., Orlando and Tampa is so packed with too much traffic and too many tourists. Anywhere near the beach is too expensive with Florida's low wages. The summers are too hot and the insect and critters are overwhelming. Home taxes are getting higher every year and with the governor supporting the insurance companies, homeowners don't stand a chance on getting any decreases. And then there are the hurricanes which can make you homeless and I guarantee the insurance companies will NOT PAY for you to get a new house or even a fraction of a replacement cost.

Lol. People actually think Florida is expensive compared to the rest of the country? This isn't a Florida problem.

Florida is expensive because prices match NY or California but wages are lowest in the country. Which means it literally is more expensive than anywhere else in comparison

Prior to 2002, you can get a brand new 3-4 bedroom home in a gated community in South Florida for around $160-200,000. By 2007, that same house was selling for $650,000

I love it. I saved my entire career so I could choose where I wanted to retire. Not everyone can live where they want to, just like I can’t afford a yacht or my own plane.
