MMT Pro Tip: Why You Should Extend/Load the Spine and Stretching vs Slacking

  • In this MMT pro tip, I'm going to go over the frequently asked questions by not only clinicians in my courses, but mainly patients.
    Why are we loading the spine and why are we slacking the tight area instead of stretching it?
    So it's really common.
    Patients often want to stretch.
    They're used to stretching when something is tight, even the clinician they go to regularly stretches it.
    But the way I explain it is you have to look at how we treat the rest of our joints, particularly our extremities versus our spines in weight bearing.
    When we stand up, we walk around our our knees, our hips, and our shoulders, our elbows, they all go through a much larger range of motion versus our spines.
