    “Not to difficult to out think and out strategize the tyranid fleet” there are a number of imperial fleet commanders who assumed as much and died screaming while boarding alarms blared in the background. Destroying them in the void is just as costly as doing so planetside, if not more so as the sacrifices in the void are often significantly less replaceable if not irreplaceable (for the imperium).

      And that fact alone... its the winning condition... as stated the galaxy has been invaded from multiple planes...
      There's tyranids out there... everywhere... and they comming... what we face now are just the scouts and the forward forces... for every tyranid you kill hundred fold will take its place...
      If they come from other galaxies... imagine a force that can harvest the biomass of... lets keep it simple... just 2 galaxies... that right there is already 2x the resources you can afford to spend in a war... a war that you are aready losing. Now there's uncountable numbers of galaxies out there... I let you cower in fear in your little corner.

      @@LanMandragon1720 that theory hold no water when subjected to scrutiny.
      any fleeing force will scatter, unless trying to concentrate into a very powerful position (and at that point is a retreat, not a flee-generally disorganized movement of forces).
      As far as we can see, Tyranids are coming from multiple angles, so they can't technically be fleeing as it makes no sense... a regroup/retreat can be explained but... what makes the milky way galaxy so special? the cicatrix maledictum? surely not, as the tyranids were not aware of the warp beforehand - as proven by the lack of adaptations and subsequent adaptations of hive fleet kronos. the astronomicon? can arguably be a proposition, as a beacon of regroup? maybe the tyranids use something similar to coordinate universe-span movements and got deceived?
      Yet... occam's razor.... and everything points towards invasion more than anything else.

    So step 8 would be just to teleport an Culexus Assassin near a Norn Queen then boom???

    • @garereeve117
      @garereeve117 3 года назад +18

      While this certainly has potential, other Synapse Creatures might still be able to maintain the Hive Mind long enough for a couple of Gaunts to get to the Norn Queen’s chamber and turn the Culexis into a light snack… thus giving the Norn Queen the genetic material to mass-produce anti-Psyker Tyranid strains.
      I’d opt to mass as many Culexis Assassins and other Blanks as possible in a single naval task force, disrupt the Hive Mind en masse in space, and then isolate and annihilate individual pockets of the (now leaderless) Hive Fleet until the majority of the fleet has been killed in the void, making any large-scale biomass recovery nearly impossible.

      I am ofcourse not sure about this, but it also effects Culexis assasins and other Nulls in some way, as the Shadow in the Warp pretty much blankets all within range of it, and makes it very very difficult for enemy psykers to do anything.

    • @Paerigos
      @Paerigos 3 года назад +4

      @Liam Johnson well their are surprisingly deadly in space, but nids main problem in space is that they have far harder time to replenish their craft.
      they can only relly on resources accumulated from last devouring - there the upper limit of breaking them is possible.
      Its still better to engage them in space then to fight them on the ground.
      and granted imperial tactics over Macragge was inadequate, but - they were facing a new foe in that war and the doctrines needed to be developed so I would not be so hard on the Imperium in this case.
      and Imperium does have weapons that can take them down in billions in space.
      contrary to that - Tau fleet stands virtually no chance when facing nids even when it is anathema to imperial navy on equal number engagment.

    • @Paerigos
      @Paerigos 3 года назад +4

      @@Rfk551 Well its explained why it turns evil - its corrupted by Tzeench.
      TAU are lucky they are so outside of main clusters of warp power.
      So far there is only one AI that has manage to escape corruption of Tzeench - the STC onboard the Speranza, the largest Ark Mechanicus ever constructed (just before then end of dark age of technology). It has become a gestalt entity which seems to be strong enough to resist even Tzeench... but - its also possible tht Tzeench does not know about it since it wipes out memory of every techpriest that tries to interface with it.
      (it likely decided it does not want to serve chaos, and quite frankly Imperium would probably dread sentient Arc mechanicus with fucking blackhole and chronometric weaponry on it... it can alter time by its guns... so the machine spirit hides from both Tzeench and Imperium, thoug its still described as loayal to humanity... likely wanting to protect it from itself)
      and quite frankly imperium CAN innovate, its just that it forgot how... Cawl was busy... and quite frankly figuring out how the blackstone and necron innertialess drives work would free Imperium from need of warp travel in much more reliable way then even the webway. (if they also figure out necron astrogation because it would be so nice to screw astronomicon and let emperor do something without needing 2000 psykers a day)
      Emperor would likely love for Cawl to suceed in that.

      @AileDiablo poison doesnt really work. A form of biological warfare was used once and worked, wiping a small hive fleet out... But all other fleets from that point turned out to be immune to the infection. Hacking the hive mind isnt doable: it would be like trying that trick against the chaos gods, as the hive mind is incomprehensible in scale. And even with individual nids, the issue is that their link is psychic, and the shadow in the warp the produce makes use of psychic abilities all but impossible. Trying to temper with the hive mind would likely having all psykers trying it die or go insane.

      Cryptman tried just that. Worked for a while, but it only slows the nids, and means you have to nuke potentially valuable worlds since nids will not invade those without any biomass, and will only make large deployments on worldsthat are deemed worth the investment of biomass. Overall the cost of this strategy is too great for the effect it produces, as you have to kill a lot of your own guys to make it work. The issue with a halo ring type weapon would be the fact that tyranids eat everything organic to a microbial level. They consume all the water, leaving planets uninhabitable space rocks.
    So, countering them in space with hit and runs is really the best way.

    • @sonea1801
      @sonea1801 3 года назад +1

      Well, the Halo Array specifically targets anything with a nervous system and simply kills it. I'm sure the Forerunners, if they were a faction in 40k, could calibrate the Array to target only Tyranid nervous systems. Hopefully, there won't be any nids without a nervous system. The problem with the Flood was that it didn't operate with a nervous system and therefore couldn't be targeted by the Halo Array.

    • @thorveim1174
      @thorveim1174 2 года назад

      @@sonea1801 its a tricky one as to if the array can be calibrated this precisely... And with how varied nids are, risks are a lot of specimens will end up unaffecter by a precisely calibrated strike. And even if perfect, all the nids that are still out of the galaxy could adapt (for exemple, by making it so every single important nid has a different neural pattern so the array cant do much damage at once anymore)
      That, and some tyranid organisms could be made to work like the flood too

    For the imperium the best way to deal with the tyranid threat is to engage them in the void proactivly. first figure out where the hive ships are, this can be done by using the shadow in the warp to track the movements of the tyranids or by perparing an ambush as the tyranids go towards a world with an active genestealer cult, you want carrier type ships with alot of void fighters and bombers and lots of lance batterys to stay out of the range of tyrinad ships finaly once your done with destroying the hive fleet extermanatus the bait world if neccisary

    #1 Unless we are on a hiveworld, not a lot of biomass is bound up in the human form.
    The Nyds would get plenty nourishement from the discared pieces of humans.
    And there is actually some indication that they learned to adapt to consuming processed metals now. So they can totally eat the hive city itself, on top of all the Humans inside.
    There is at least one Hivefleet that seems to focus on Necron worlds - indicating that they can digest Necromdermis now.
    #2 Ah, the Kryptman solution.
    On the plus side, it would also defeat chaos.
    One of the big reasons not to rile up the Necrons, is that there is a 99% chance they have a "wipe out all life in the galaxy" device or 20 hidden away. And they are not afraid to use them!
    #3 You think it is easy to outhink the Nyds? That is a grave mistake!
    They use simple tactics becuase they did not _need_ complex ones thus far. Each fleets Nornqueen is capable of strategies on the level of a Spacemarine Librarian or better. And the Superorganism is much smarter then even that.
    They are fully capable of subterfuge (see Geenstealer Cults), sabotage, assasination, PsiOps (see Lictors) and full on space maneuver warfare.
    #4 Any other foodsource really just makes them stronger in the long run. You can not kick that can down the road, it turns into a avalance of garbage quickly.
    #5 Predictability is relative. The hivemind is fully capable of deciding to pick a unexpected target. However they do _need_ food, that is one imperative in their design. One thing oyu can rely upon.
    Poisons have worked a few times against the Tyranids. If you manage to deliver it to the Synapse creature, in particular the Nornqueen. But usually you have to handcraft it, as there is a decent chance you only wipe out the 1st wave - the 2nd would be adapted to it.
    #6 A common attack vector can be to hit the Capilarry towers - injecting the poison there and will reach the queen.
    #8 Jamming the Shadow in the Warp would be a viable approach. Feral nyds are usually easy enough to defeat. They are more a invasive animal species, then a army.
    Blackstole Pylons might work. They are Warp rejcetors (or amplifiers if the polarity is flipped). So it might be able jam the hivemind.
    However I would expect some adaptation. Jamming is most likely to limit the range, so they have to use more Synapse creatures to keep control.
    #9 This might be a viable approach. Demons do not offer sustenance to Nyds. And they know full well that if sentient life is wiped out, they die out too. So they have all the stakes. Chaos, Necrons Nyds - they are the 3 galaxy scale dangers.
    During the invasion of Baal, the Demon Ka'Bandha appeared and actually defeated a large portion the Tyranids. "The Sons of Sanginius are mine to kill, Cockroaches!"
    Another large part of the fleet might have been sucked into the Warp. The game "Warhammer 40k Battlesector" deals with a potential for the fleet comming back outo of the Warp.

    I think option 6 is actually viable, but instead of one gene might consider a few. By that say one strand enhances strength, a second strand enhances dexterity, and a third enhances intelligence. Now in doing so each of these strands has subtle sequence integrated that will shorten life spans, decrease immunization against viruses and other microbes, and decrease senses including those of a extrasensory base like telepathy. If all 3 could be found on 1 planet in different population centers this could make the swarm easier to deal with. For starters their lifespans are cut shorter, they could be susceptible to an engineered virus that targets Tryanid sequences only, and with their psionic links degraded they would need more of those special organisms that amplify the link to the queen. Take out a enough of those the swarm goes feral, while far tougher to deal with in the beginning. In the long run they would be more manageable as they would be more predictable. Even with intelligence enhanced they are still driven by their animalistic nature to devour. And with the link gone you'd have subsequent queens possibly sprouting, but fighting over what resources is available to enhance their micro-swarms. In doing so the Imperium or any other race like Tau, the Orks, and the Eldar would be able to use more sophisticated methods and tactics the take out each swarm by their own means as each queen would be arguing with one another and unable to coordinate properly to deal with counterattack with overwhelming numbers as they had been able to in the past because there is one last sequence integrated in small parts through out this process. Slower gestation sequences, it would take longer for new forms to grow as the required sequences would be more difficult to put together sense the existing sequences would fit together in a certain way to compliment the best of the enhancements, but in doing so this also applies the reasonable negatives in a small degree while leaving this completely untouched. The queens might be blindsided and unable to deal with the problem in any meaningful way without regressing themselves or hindering themselves in some serious way.

      @@Bornst3ll3r The Tyranids in the galaxy at the time of activation would die, but they are but the tiniest fragment of the true numbers of the Swarm outside the Milky Way galaxy that could travel here to feed afterwards. Also, that pulse would be detected by the greater Hive Mind through the synaptic web, its methodology of destroying a species' central nervous system analysed and adaptation developed to counter its effects so that the next wave of the Tyranid invasion will be entirely immune to Halo Ring weapons by the time they arrive. Superweapons just don't stop the Tyranids, it is a part of their lore. Everyone and their uncle has tried across countless other galaxies and unnumbered now consumed species and civilisations, and it has never worked. Psychic energy weapons, biological plagues, psychic power disrupters, super soldiers, reality-obliterating-physics-defying-doomsday-weapons-fit-to-terrify-gods, shape shifters, mind controllers - the Tyranids have already faced and bested it all before over the billions of years their species has been doing its thing. If you are left relying on a hail Mary superweapon gambit to pull your species' fat out of the fire versus the Tyranids, you have already lost.
      There are no shortcuts when fighting the Tyranids, no easy ways out - you have to cost the bugs badly enough in biomass expenditure for each world they consume that it isn't worth the Hive Mind's time, effort or resources to continue the invasion. You can fight them to a stalemate that is unprofitable for the Swarm, but only if you do it the hard way in the mud and the blood, fighting for every inch of every world to the bitter end, the last soldier and the last bullet. Even then, all you will achieve is to cause the Tyranids to move on to easier feeding grounds elsewhere, and the Swarms will likely return later to test your resolve anew, but it is the only game in town if you want to survive.

      @@Bornst3ll3r The Halo array clearly employs some specific methodology to kill its targets, hence the targeting of the central nervous system. Such a methodology can be countered if your mastery of biotechnology is advanced enough, and Tyranids are all about the engineered bioforms. Think of it as the biological equivalent of hardening an electronic system against electromagnetic pulse weapons. It is challenging certainly, but not impossible, especially if you have a high enough technology base. There would be some means of defeating the effects of the Halo array, no matter how extreme the adaptation required to do so might be, and the Tyranids would manifest the necessary adaptation sooner or later, even if it meant entirely replacing a conventional nervous system with an electro-conductive circulatory system of ferro fluids and a silicon biology based cognitive structure more akin to a central processor than anything we would recognise as a brain mass.
