Hey everyone! I recognize this isn't the version that all of you wanted and can appreciate that. I chose this version specifically because I was there at Bloodstock, I would have seen this performance as my very first time of exposure CoF anyhow, and it has excellent production quality. So, this made sense to me. I will go back and listen to the studio recording in my own time, so thank you for all of those recommendations!
Regardless of anyone's preference, it's your channel, therefore you can view any version you wish. I liked this video myself. You always make good choices in videos.
This is one of my favorite Cradle songs, but Liv Kristine really makes it shine on the studio version. The only problem here is this song doesn't really showcase what Dani is capable of. I'd recommend something like Cruelty Brought thee Orchids or Beneath the Howling Stars.
Or early Savatage. I'm thinking especially of Jon Oliva's vocals on Hall of the Mountain King. Now that I think of it, Savatage or Queensryche would offer many interesting opportunities for reviews here!
Dani lost his voice for a few years. However, since around 2019 he has seemed to change his high scream style and I think it sounds really good. Best he has sounded in years. And to think he is almost 50!
Well he was always conscious about his way of singing and tried to make to voice last as long as possible. The fact that he is still able to sing the way he does, is just remarkable.
Since we're jumping into Cradle of Filth, I REALLY want to call out their first backup vocalist, who is largely forgotten about -- Sara Jezebel Deva. Her vocals were absolutely fantastic in the band. I really want to recommend the song "The Black Goddess Rises II" (make sure II, not the original). The first few minutes are alright, but then it switches over to the symphonic part, and she REALLY shows up for the vocal passages. Since there's no video, might not make for great content, but would make for a fun listen.
I could watch Dani Filth vocal analysis's all day. Hes literally the only person on the planet who can banshee screetch like that. I've never heard anyone else replicate it and I've been listening to metal for 20 years.
I just saw them a few weeks ago, and he definitely still has it, I don't know if he just chooses not to do some of the things he used to, or if these kind of recorded live shows just don't do him justice. Perhaps a bit of both, I feel these live videos cut out some of the frequencies that makes him, him. But in-person he sounds just like he used to.
I saw them in 2004, 2018 and 2019. The more recent gigs have been even more amazing to my ears. Pleasantly surprising, especially when they play from Midian. Its really powerful.
You should also do the studio version of Her Ghost in the Fog! You can hear Dani when he was a little younger. Not the music video version though, it's about 2 minutes shorter and cuts out some cool vocal stuff.
Right. Then they used to be a Black Metal marvelous combo. This song, as long as I loved it many years ago, is clearly part of their penultimate mainstream period.
"Her Ghost in the Fog" or "Nymphetamine, both studio version is more or less the only way to go with Dani Filth. He just cannot do what he once did anymore, and the lack of Liv Kristine in this version is readily apparent.
In hearing both when the album first came out and watching the live version I feel like both female vocalist did the sun well while Liv provided a more haunting sound, this new vocalist whom, mind you, is playing the keyboard and singing, brought a more seductive tone to the song. Which is fitting! Both of them did a great job
Cradle of Filth were in their prime in the 90's. If you were to listen to the entire Dusk and Her Embrace album, you'll hear their masterpiece album. Starting from Humana Inspired to Nightmare and to finish with Haunted Shores. Never pausing. Just sit back and take it all in.
They have made more good stuff afterwards but as as whole album, certainly their very best work. A true masterpiece. The song dusk and her embrace ranks along my favorite songs of all time.
Been listening to Cradle of Filth for 18 years. Always loved how he can use his highs, middle and low tones. Was my biggest inspiration in my poetry and songs I wrote back then.
Dani's voice is clearly toast but what he goes for these days still works really well for the music. He's a smart guy and while he physically can't hit those insane highs anymore, he knows what to do to still make the song work. A lot of metal vocalists struggle with this later in their careers so I'm glad to see it.
If you'd seen their recent livestream gig, you'd revel in the fact that he still absolutely has it, he can still hit those screams and absolutely smashes it.
@@michaelthompson9982 that's reassuring. Sort of reminds me of Corey Taylor at one point years ago when he just didn't seem on anymore and had to adjust. That's all.
@@KaleEmAll have a look at their livestreamed gig from this year (2022) when they played Dusk in it's entirety ruclips.net/video/w3yukxMQwAk/видео.html
@@michaelthompson9982 I was actually going to post how even now his voice is still there. Not completely but it should be completely obliterated at this point.
@@DiffuseOne Compare the first 3 COF albums and the first two HE albums, and they're certainly very comparible. Fast forward 20 years and they've both gone in different directions. Hecate Enthroned's Slaughter of Innocence album was years ahead of its time, though.
The years definitely haven't been kind to Dani's voice, but I would still love to go see them live! Very few vocalists can do high-pitched screams and low growls back to back like that. Dani pretty much pioneered that style
Dani is a unique vocalist that performs exceptionally well in studio. It may that the vocal tracks are isolated and cleaned up a bit but I prefer this song in its original studio format.
I agree that live it does not always come across as the studio versions do. Sometimes the mic sound is not mixed very well, or the mic cannot capture what is captured in the studio.
He used to be an absolute beast. Maybe around late 90's / early 00's was his best time, specially in studio. He uses a lot the thing of recording the same phrase in different voices, creating a sort of harmony that gives a lot of body and emotion to the vocals. Love it or hate it, Dani Filth's voice is remarkably unique. Nobody else has pushed the boundaries of cool weird harsh vocals like him.
Lmao so many normies, check out Bethlehem with the album Dictius Te Necare, with Rainer Landfermann on vocals, this is nothing compared to that mounstrous, demonic and anguished vocals.
@@MrInfernalSoul I was just about to mention Kyo. Mans a vocal beast. OP needs to listen through an entire album to fully appreciate him. I can't remember the name of the one with Different Sense on it, bamboo forest on the cover, latin name I believe, has a more symphonic sound to it than the other albums.
@@amireal5458 I checked your example. Not bad, but doesn't have the range or agility of Dani in his prime. If you're gonna be an elitist, at least do your research.
You should see all Cradle of Filth lyrics... they're very long and almost never repeats. He's one of the most talented writer in the whole metal scene. He really knows his subjects and writes very subtile details that you can only catch if you know the references. Thanks for the reaction video on them :)
@@Cr0wsMurd3r Repetition. When you tour, songs sort of get permanently imprinted. Also constant practice. I can recite all his songs from memory alone, and I have been listening to him since the release of From The Cradle To Enslave. I listened to nothing but Cradle for almost 10 years because I failed to find music that was anywhere near such quality. If I had the vocal talent, I could cover all his songs without rehearsal =/ And my memory sucks.
His voice actually became much worse with years, so seems like his Growling was not done in proper or healthy way. It is shorter version, also. The full version ("Overdose") is 8 minutes long and is much better - especially one with Liv (her voice is amazing) or original Live version with Sarrah. Also, movie clip for it is cool too - so gothic.
Their music definitely is enhanced by studio production. The live versions can be disappointing. Yeah, I agree Dani's voice has gotten worse over the years. Hopefully he hasn't done serious damage and can keep singing.
@@LouisGiliberto I've seen them live at least five times that I can remember, and he did sound a lot better 10, 15 years ago, and I mean a *massive* lot. This particular one I couldn't even watch.
He's a lot older now. He probably doesn't go so hard on the growling to make sure he can still hit those highs. Even normal singers lose capability as they age. It's amazing that Dani can still hit those highs at all after all these years, doing these extreme metal vocals.
I absolutely love the "overdose" version of this song. It's a more complete story of what's going on. Sure Nymphetamine Fix is awesome by itself but it only tells half of what was happening in the song
Hes been doing this 30 years. If you want an accurate then and now. Watch the live performances Beneath the Howling Stars 1998 Astoria, and recently Heaven Torn Asunder from the 2022 "dead stream." With the dead stream you will hear his vocals right off the board as it was an internet show so you can accurately see his mouth and hear it directly from the mic. Also read the lyrics, he is a very talented writer and full of gothic type themes. I have been listening to them for over 20 years, so if you have a question I am sure I can help out.
I also suggested this version of this song. Another live version that I would like her to analyze was Cthulhu Dawn live in Nottingham, Dani still had a lot of power in her voice, had absolute control of the tones, made a very quick transition from one tone to a completely different one and did 5 different voices.
Please consider reacting to the studio versions for "Her ghost in the fog" or "Bathory Aria". Both have some amazing vocal work. In my opinion those two songs are the pinnacle for CoF and Dani
@@ghoulfather I missed that one. Thanks for letting me know! I'm glad to see such a great piece get the recognition it deserves. I only wish the video didn't cut part of the song.
"Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids" or "Bathory Aria" from the "Cruelty and the Beast" album (the original master, not the 2019 remaster) are some of the best CoF tracks you can listen to.
@@steveetches6013 another favorite of mine. Ironically, I purchased Cruelty via a BMG music club and found it a complete novelty, finding it even humorous... Then it grew on me and soon became one of my all time favorite albums.
"Her Ghost in the Fog" is their best song in my opinion. The story is also crazy and sad. Or try "Tearing the Veil from Grace" because it is their most epic song ever! The story is told from the point of view of the fallen angels and their plan to overthrow God to take back heaven. Has amazing melodies and vocal harmonies!
"he reminds me of Strong Bad." LOL A lot of metalheads dunk on this band (sometimes justifiably) but their early stuff is really good, "Dusk and Her Embrace" was a blind purchase when I was like 16 and has been rotated into my playlists ever since.
on his prime Dani was a monster... he's still good but you can tell it had to tone it back a bit. they have a huge catalog and there are so many excellent examples that it's really hard to choose.
This was quite a bit more melodic than I remember them being when I first encountered them back in the second half of the 90s(dominated much more of the black metal screeches).
@@OnlyKaerius Purists won't like this, but CoF started out as Black Metal and progressed towards something much more melodic. Black Metal purists tend to label this as "sellouts".
@@RickReasonnz Very true, there is little black metal still there. More symphonic death metal for the last 20 years. Hecate Enthroned who started at roughly the same time are in a similar vein but kept the black metal element throughout. Dani is a very shrewd businessman tho, I read that apart from Maiden, they have been the largest grossing UK metal band for a long time. Now managed by Dez from Coal Chamber they must be doing something right...
Finally! I would have loved to watch a reaction to Her Ghost in the Fog, but this is a good choice too. Now I just have to wait for Haggard's Eppur Si Muove...
"Watching a story unfold more than I'm listening to a song..." Yes, that is exactly the foundation, and core of Dani's writing. He's a novelist that chose music instead, and he puts all contrasts of his creativity in the stories he crafts or renditions through the music. One of their best albums is Godspeed on Devil's Thunder as it tells a horrific story of Gilles de Rais a French Knight and companion to Joan of Arc, whom was later convicted a serial rapist and murderer of children after the loss of Joan of Arc drove him to insanity.
19:49 "He reminds me of Strong Bad." And just like that, Elizabeth became my favorite RUclips personality ever. I *HOWLED* with laughter. That was amazing.
I have been looking forwards to this one for the longest time, Dani has a unique voice, I have listened to COF for the longest time and Nymphetamine is one of my favourite songs
I love how Elizabeth is so polite and professional that she won't say anything bad about what clearly was two vocalists struggling to manage their breath and overall having a difficult time singing
As for Annabelle Iratni, that might just be true since she was just in the band at the time. As for Dani, I think that was his intended performance, balanced between different musical traditions, timing, breathing, maxing out... In light of that, not liking his delivery might be more a question of taste than objective quality. But it has struck me that the band relies pretty heavily on production value, including "perfect" vocal takes. For one thing, their core musicians seem to have started delivering just recently. The only one to have given me goosebumps live in that band was the first female vocalist, Sarah "Jezebel Deva" Ferrige.
I loved how when I heard of them 20 years ago they were the scariest sounding music I heard up until that point and Dani in makeup looked all tough, but out of makeup he was just goth-punk Boy George!
The original studio with Liv or the original live w Sarah would have been a better choice. Good to see Dani on your show. Could you do Mortuus from Marduk, he’s nasty and there’s a lot to talk about. Great video again. Thank you.
But the original studio version is from Sarah, and a little different from the Liv one. St least that was what Sarah herself said in her FB page. Have you listened her studio version?
This is going to be amazing :) I had the pleasure of meeting Dani in the mid 90s. I knew one of the guitarists that joined them in the mid 90s, He's called Stuart Anstis and his first album was Dusk and her embrace. We were at School together and he got me back stage a couple of times and i went out on the piss with them once also.......that was carnage :) Dani is a really mellow guy, has loads of time for people and couldn't be more different a person that the image he uses with the Band.
That’s amazing! I loved all of Stuart’s material during the 90s years. Just ordered an old Funeral in Carpathia longsleeve the other day. The merch in those days was untouchable and he’s the best guitarist they’ve seen imo besides Richard and Ashok.
@@Misconcepcion High Praise :) I can remember him telling us that he was going for an audition, but we just thought that it was for a local Band (We grew up in the wilds of North Devon). When he got the job and told us we couldn't believe it.......Stuie with the Pink Explorer was going to play for a huge band, we were made up for him.....although we took the piss about the make up :) His first guitar was a Pink Explorer copy but i can't remember what make it was
@@tommy5675 Haha! This is gold! That's so cool man. It's crystal clear that his sound that he brought to the band was a staple so I'd say he made a damn good impact! Looking back, I can't imagine them without the makeup but it is a bit campy haha!
I never knew how much I didn't know about singing and vocalizations until I stumbled upon this fascinating channel. I've learned so much and found a new appreciation for singers and bands I had never heard of previously. Keep up the great work! Love, love, LOVE this channel. 💙
A Gothic Romance is imo the quintessential Cradle of Filth song. Lyrically magnificent, grandiose scope and of course that metal as can be riff during "but poisoned nectar within me stirs".
His voice is so unique! I saw Cradle of Filth in concert almost two weeks ago, and they sounded absolutely incredible. Of course voices change over time, but holy crap. He sounded great! 🖤🤘
"That high sound" is one reason LOVE the studio version of this song with Liv Kristine (from the band Leave's Eyes) his first few albums are pure power and talent. He sounds live a completely different Person live today then he did on his original albums. VERY high highs...
@@ArmoredSpider74 I’ve been hooked on Desire in Violent Overture lately. Cruelty was a bit before my time. Midian, damnation and nymphetamine were my main albums in middle-high school. Now that I’m older and they remastered cruelty I’ve been getting into their early stuff.
I did not understand vocals when I was younger, but I would screw around until I found out how to get my voice to their pitch. I was 15 and I loved Dani Filths voice. I would found that I could reach his highs fairly naturally and lows as well. Wish I had had a vocal coach to help me understand my instrument. I just love his voice!!🤘🤘
I understand this is a bit mainstream or pop'ish, but my most beloved their song is "From the Cradle to Enslave", I still listening it from time to time in absolutely various conditions. I remember how first met them with official videoclip of "From the Cradle to Enslave" - it was so mesmerising and disturbing in some places. And I still can hear his vocal lines in my head, just without listening music itself, over all those past years. Damn, I'm dreaming to see someone's reaction of first met with that song, especially if it can be at this incredible channel..
Saw it live back in October as a two part encore with Nymphetamine. This was the tour setlist for Cruelty and the Beast (full album) which included tracks from Existence is Futile as well.
I always thought his signature scream would physically feel like a whistle singing but with fry, I don’t know how to explain it. You should totally hear him sing in the 90s (like in live at Astoria).
God this song just transports me back to 8th grade and I love every second of it. Dani still sounds really good! Also, highly recommend Skinny Puppy's extremely weird catalog and Zeal and Ardor (blues and black metal)
So many great options with cof, but for me, their song "Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids" is a true testament to their ability from vocals to musicianship to composition. Never tire of hearing that morose epic beauty!
I am with everyone in recommending Her Ghost in the Fog. It was the song that opened me up to Cradle in the first place. This style of metal really isnt my go to but but I fell in love when I heard Ghost and it opened me up to their music in the best way.
More recommendations for Cradle of Filth (I tend to prefer them in the studio rather than live. Don't know why but the band never really convinced me on the stage): *Bathory Aria* - I consider this their masterpiece and it is yet another song about Elizabeth Bathory :) *Her Ghost in the Fog* - very poetic lyrics that tell a disturbing and sad story. Also a great piece of music *The Fetus of a New Day Kicking* - kind of different. Rocks and Rolls more than they usually do :)
I saw them on the tour they just did for Cruelty, and I swear they were better than when I saw them in 03 at Ozzfest. As just a listener, with minimal knowledge of things my theory is sound guys for years didn't know how to adjust for what Dani does...I'm probably wrong but it makes sense in my head lol.
This live is not so bad, but ... their female vocal .... I strongly recomend you to check the official release. It is recorded with Liv Kristine and she's just amazing. The song climbs so many levels, i promisse!
The Overdose version from the album is incredible and I highly recommend it. Also, Her Ghost in the Fog. Medusa and Hemlock has a lot of cool elements in it, too. Better to Reign in Hell and Carrion are two of my absolute favorites.
CoF are one of my all time fave metal bands. There are two stand out features of the band for me, personally: 1) Dani's lyricism: the lyrics that Dani weaves throughout each album are absolutely freaking amazing. He is clearly an incredibly intelligent and well-read individual. Generally, each album as a theme or concept, and the way he is able to weave through alliteration, double meanings/entendres, invent/combine words into new words that entwine with the story is straight up genius 2) Dani's dedication to the live performance: I have seen CoF play live a couple times, most recently at two very small pub/club shows in Canberra, Australia. It cannot be understated how much it means to the metal community that not only is he willing to bring the band to such a relatively small show (from headlining these major european metal festivals), but even playing these shows, shows a very clear and honest dedication to the fans to put everything in to putting on a good performance/show for the punters.....for such a small venue/crowd, it would be very easy for the band to just write us off and phone it in, but they dont (and I have never seen them do it). Every.....single.....performance..... they make an effort to put on a great show for the crowd and ensure a memorable experience for everyone that came to see them. The value of that cannot be understated. As you said, Dani is a super chill and awesome dude. He might cop a bit of shit from metal purist gatekeepers, but I can tell you this, there are a lot of big bands that could learn a thing or two from his approach to his craft how he interacts with his fanbase.
thanks for choosing this certain recording, it was my first watching (and almost first listening) of CoF at all. Your expression really corresponds to my feelings, so it was a pleasure watching Your video
Bought this album on a whim in 2005. I had only heard "Her Ghost in the Fog" a few years prior. This track, with Liv Kristine (the woman in the swing in the video playing behind) turned me on to Leaves' Eyes. She is an amazing vocalist and warrants checking out the studio version of Nymphetamine, and the band Leaves' Eyes, which she left in 2016.
Dani did an interview once, about 15 years ago, the reporter asked him how he screams that high….enter Mariah Carey on steroids. He adds gnarly fry while sucking in air, amazing dedication of the art to master that!
I love Cradle of Filth so much, I'm glad you broke down how he does those higher harsh vocals, because I have no clue how he does it, I can't think of any other vocalist who can do it, it's unique to Dani. I definitely agree with everyone else recommending Her Ghost in the Fog, in my opinion that song is one of the greatest songs ever written I love it so much.
I've been waiting for you to do Cradle Of Filth forever and I completely understand why this is the first video you chose but please consider doing a reaction of Cradle Of Filth doing Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids live 1998 you won't be disappointed I literally would die to see your reaction to the way Dani sings in that video my friend. By far the best Cradle Of Filth recording ever... 🖤💜
I would have loved a studio version instead but there is a special something about raw vocals too. I'm very much looking forward to your reaction to dani's highs. And Lorna shore is dropping a new song an hour after this premiere!!
I always enjoyed his staccato style of vocalizing. Probably my favorite of his performances is on the album version of "Lord Abortion". He runs through most of his tools. And the riffs are pretty viscous and dynamic.
I've never heard a live performance of theirs that compares to the album version which is something you can say about many bands but CoF is one who through the magic of studio editing most importantly track layering create music that can't be heard anywhere else not even when they're playing it. The magic in their music comes forth in the studio and it is their recordings that truly shine. They still have enjoyable stage sets but they're a different animal on record. The high pitched tones you were noting is the Dani Filth cat screech that used to be the majority of his vocals. His voice has changed with age but except for some death metal style vocals on the early demos the screech was how he sung everything. For the best example check out "Hosannas in extremis(The Rape and Ruin of Angels) from the Vempire mini CD. I haven't been that into them since the Midian album but everything from Vempire to Midian is a masterpiece and there are so many amazing songs that showcase his vocal range and the creative genius of the band and of course the sound editors.
I would say that you are right about this but only if we're talking about his high pitch screams. I would argue that his vocals has become more varied and interesting through the years when he has incorporated a lot of weird stuff and sounds into his singing :)
I've always thought Cradle of Filth sounds like ass live, there's no comparison for me between the live and studio recording of this song. I don't think what they did in the album recording can be translated to a live situation.
He sounded pretty solid back in 2019 when I saw them. Tbh, the band overall did, as well. The current lineup is super strong. Of course, Lindsay was still in the band and her vocals are great.
In memory of the late great Trevor Strnad, I’d really love to see you analyze his vocal performance on The Black Dahlia Murders live dvd “Fool ‘em’ all”
Also be sure to read into the lyrics, Trevor was a phenomenal song writer. I saw them live a few times and was always amazed how Trevor could go from fast highs to deep lows whilst also running around the stage and pumping his fists.
Cradle were one of my gateway bands into metal. Cruelty and the Beast will always be my favourite album. We called it "The Scary Blue CD". I can still sing it nearly word for word. Amazing! I'm glad you got to meet Dani at Bloodstock, I spent a while talking to him as well. He gets a bad wrap in the metal world, but if you catch him at the right time, he's just a cool guy, and really funny as well.
I haven't heard any CoF since the early 2000s, the overall composition is still good, but in no way does this hold a candle to his earlier performances - 10/10 would recommend you checking them out
btw, apart from his singing performancw, Dani is one of the most underrated lyricists. Please listen to the song "her ghost in the fog" with the lyrics.
At least they still perform live. So many bands rely on backing tracks to hide their imperfections. I'd rather hear the imperfect version than a pre-recorded performance that I could get on an album
Hi! Ive been a long time fan of your channel, I have fond respect for your passion and exploration. I love that you had this one on here, I've been a fan of CoF since the 90's, and I think I may be able to help you understand Dani's high vocal. I've performed several CoF covers in my life and found the best way to achieve that sound with adequate control is to essentially "scream like a girl" while focusing tension around the epiglottis, forcing the sound through. Even done properly, it's going to accumulate massive damage over time....twas the sacrifice of Dani in order to bring to us something truly unique and wonderful.
Yeah, this was a regrettable choice as a first exposure to Cradle and Dani....all the other songs and the studio versions mentioned would have much more for you to get excited about i think! Maybe redo another one soon?!
The fun part of watching your videos is watching someone who has a similar reaction and love of music as I do. I've never actually known anyone who does. I've learned to avoid the subject of music around others because I think I come off as a crazy fanatic. Music is all I have left that has been with me for my entire life, and it's never let me down.
It's from 2021 so I highly doubt it. I like this channel but I wish she'd stop reacting to these recent live shows. She also did her first Manowar reaction a few months ago and picked an absolutely horrible live song that did NOT showcase the lead singer.
@@my_cousin_mose9782 She doesn't have anyone to guide her to the right videos, and often the recording quality of a recent video will trump the performance quality of an old one, at least for the purposes of analysis. I don't think anyone working on the channel is knowledgeable in the ways of semi-obscure metal. Believe me, I often disagree with the popular vote on which songs get picked for analysis, but it is what it is, and it makes sense for the success of the channel to cater to the majority. I might disagree, but I respect it as a business decision. Anyway, let's be real, the best way to listen to Dani's vocals has always been the studio recordings, not live.

@@volairelarp3773 Hecate Enthroned's vocalist does something similar as well.
Kyo from Dir And Grey can go extremely high as well in his screams.
Dani doesn't have the voice he used to obviously, but he's still a beast. In his prime, I would say late 90s early 2000s he was on God mode.
I saw them on the Cruelty tour. You are 💯🤘
God mode for sure!
I saw them in 2004, 2018 and 2019. The more recent gigs have been even more amazing to my ears. Pleasantly surprising, especially when they play from Midian. Its really powerful.
He still sounds fantastic all things considered
You should also do the studio version of Her Ghost in the Fog! You can hear Dani when he was a little younger. Not the music video version though, it's about 2 minutes shorter and cuts out some cool vocal stuff.
That song came out around 20 years ago 😅
Love that Doug "Pinhead" Bradley does the poetry on that track.
I second this, it's one of my favourites of theirs. COF doing us Brits proud for decades now 😊
Right. Then they used to be a Black Metal marvelous combo. This song, as long as I loved it many years ago, is clearly part of their penultimate mainstream period.
Totally agree, I was about to do the same suggestion
"Her Ghost in the Fog" or "Nymphetamine, both studio version is more or less the only way to go with Dani Filth. He just cannot do what he once did anymore, and the lack of Liv Kristine in this version is readily apparent.
In hearing both when the album first came out and watching the live version I feel like both female vocalist did the sun well while Liv provided a more haunting sound, this new vocalist whom, mind you, is playing the keyboard and singing, brought a more seductive tone to the song. Which is fitting! Both of them did a great job
There’s a really good version of nymphetamine live for a tv show it’s old so his voice was still not fresh but relatively
For vida la metal RUclips page
Cradle of Filth were in their prime in the 90's. If you were to listen to the entire Dusk and Her Embrace album, you'll hear their masterpiece album. Starting from Humana Inspired to Nightmare and to finish with Haunted Shores. Never pausing. Just sit back and take it all in.
Yes! That album is legedary.
yes. and the dusk and her embrace & malice through the looking glass lives from that era
thank you so much for the recommendation!
“Dusk and her Embrace” was the best COF album. Honestly the rest are garbage.
That's all.

When you hear Dani's singing style, you know it's Dani's voice. Nobody sounds like that. He has his own sound for sure. Great band
Well there's bands like Hecate Enthroned
@@EyesOfGehenna Cool band, but not the same voice.
@@DiffuseOne Compare the first 3 COF albums and the first two HE albums, and they're certainly very comparible. Fast forward 20 years and they've both gone in different directions. Hecate Enthroned's Slaughter of Innocence album was years ahead of its time, though.
In more raw , Necrodeath used thoses things a good decade and half before Dan
There is a reason nobody wants to sound like that 😆
The years definitely haven't been kind to Dani's voice, but I would still love to go see them live!
Very few vocalists can do high-pitched screams and low growls back to back like that. Dani pretty much pioneered that style
He most certainly did not
30+ years and still nobody knows wtf Dani is doing with those muscles exactly. I'm so happy that his recent performances are back to stellar.

@@woodendoors9532 No idea what you want more. I already said it all.
You might want to check Dir en Grey
Lmao so many normies, check out Bethlehem with the album Dictius Te Necare, with Rainer Landfermann on vocals, this is nothing compared to that mounstrous, demonic and anguished vocals.
@@MrInfernalSoul I was just about to mention Kyo. Mans a vocal beast.
OP needs to listen through an entire album to fully appreciate him. I can't remember the name of the one with Different Sense on it, bamboo forest on the cover, latin name I believe, has a more symphonic sound to it than the other albums.
Yes i start to listen to them when i was 11 back in the 90s the album dusk and her embrace

I checked your example.
Agree, he's a criminally underrated lyricist
Always was impressed with how Dani could remember all those very long songs from the "early years"...
He is _the_ lyrical genius.
Maybe he should stick to only writing as he cant sing at all.
It's both gotten worse and better, I saw them live in 2009 and again in 2011, he didn't sound nearly as good as he has within the past couple years.
Bathory aria is my absolute fave!
Yes! Her Ghost in the Fog or Born in a Burial Grown.
She reacted to the studio version of HGITF with Julia Nilon recently. Look it up on YT! :)

"Her Ghost in the Fog" is their best song in my opinion. The story is also crazy and sad.

on his prime Dani was a monster... he's still good but you can tell it had to tone it back a bit. they have a huge catalog and there are so many excellent examples that it's really hard to choose.
@@RickReasonnz And black metal purists are some of the most unpleasant people I've ever been around.

@@RickReasonnz Very true, there is little black metal still there. More symphonic death metal for the last 20 years. Hecate Enthroned who started at roughly the same time are in a similar vein but kept the black metal element throughout. Now managed by Dez from Coal Chamber they must be doing something right...

Yes, that is exactly the foundation, and core of Dani's writing.
Tragic Kingdom is one of my favourite songs, not only of CoF songs.
Godspeed is a brilliant album! I also love Thornography so many amazing songs on it. Especially Foetus of a new day kicking

@@black6dahlia807 that's absolutely true :-/

More recommendations for Cradle of Filth (I tend to prefer them in the studio rather than live. Don't know why but the band never really convinced me on the stage):
*Bathory Aria* - I consider this their masterpiece and it is yet another song about Elizabeth Bathory :)
*Her Ghost in the Fog* - very poetic lyrics that tell a disturbing and sad story. Also a great piece of music
*The Fetus of a New Day Kicking* - kind of different. Rocks and Rolls more than they usually do :)

As just a listener, with minimal knowledge of things my theory is sound guys for years didn't know how to adjust for what Dani does...I'm probably wrong but it makes sense in my head lol.

There are two stand out features of the band for me, personally:
1) Dani's lyricism: the lyrics that Dani weaves throughout each album are absolutely freaking amazing. He is clearly an incredibly intelligent and well-read individual. Generally, each album as a theme or concept, and the way he is able to weave through alliteration, double meanings/entendres, invent/combine words into new words that entwine with the story is straight up genius
2) Dani's dedication to the live performance: I have seen CoF play live a couple times, most recently at two very small pub/club shows in Canberra, Australia.
Hecate Enthroned also has the high pitched screams. Check out their album Dark Requiems… and Unsilent Massacre.
if you REALLY wanna get into his voice :) definantly check out his remake of Hallowed Be Thy Name. shows his amazingly unique voice very well
Their cover is much more apt for the lyrics than even the original.
I second this!
And Lorna shore is dropping a new song an hour after this premiere!!
yeah live you cant hide behind studio magic and layering plus reverb.
This is way better than the boring studio version.
He is rather amazing, my favourite vocalist AND band, enjoyed your reaction x
Hands down best lyric writer ever. After so many years it's amazing he can still hit that scream at all
His voice was at it's best on Dusk and Her Embrace when it comes to high pitch screams then it slowly began wearing out.
This
I would say that you are right about this but only if we're talking about his high pitch screams. I would argue that his vocals has become more varied and interesting through the years when he has incorporated a lot of weird stuff and sounds into his singing :)
Copy that
I mean the OG post👍
I've always thought Cradle of Filth sounds like ass live, there's no comparison for me between the live and studio recording of this song. I don't think what they did in the album recording can be translated to a live situation.
Oh thank goodness, it's not just me. 😂

It’s only after Dani lost his voice. Watch concerts from the 1990’s his vocals were life altering.
He sounded pretty solid back in 2019 when I saw them. Tbh, the band overall did, as well. The current lineup is super strong. Of course, Lindsay was still in the band and her vocals are great.

Also be sure to read into the lyrics, Trevor was a phenomenal song writer. I saw them live a few times and was always amazed how Trevor could go from fast highs to deep lows whilst also running around the stage and pumping his fists.
Yes please he was one of the best! Death mask divine if you can
Cradle were one of my gateway bands into metal.
This is an amazing song. Been loving it since ages bc I'm a true metal fan
Of a milky white skin
My porcelain Yin
A graceful Angel of Sin
Nymphetamine is Cradle's pop song... he lost his consistent vocal screams a long time ago!
At least they still perform live. So many bands rely on backing tracks to hide their imperfections. I'd rather hear the imperfect version than a pre-recorded performance that I could get on an album
Cradle has gone downhill since “Dusk and her embrace”. They are not Black Metal. They are more Pop Rock in costumes.
My high school days had great music
Dani Filth is a lyrical genius. No one compares.
Dani has a crazy and unique vocal range! I swear he isn't human at times
Suicide and other comforts would be a good song to check out. The man had a crazy range in those days
Oh no I really hope you found a video where his voice was still good
It's from 2021 so I highly doubt it.
