    But don't judge other violinists with that reason.(because I saw one who advise a violinist 'play powerful like the other that can break bow hair') That can explain how Stern into music but also mean same time he press bow too much. Heifetz never break one of his bow hair. He could produce powerful sound with less pressure on the bow. Because he had amazingly flexible bow technic that needs less effort. No bow hair fell doesn't mean he was into music less when he plays.

      Heifetz did break his bow hair, when going to a luthier he would snip the hairs on the middle to ensure he got new ones instead of the old washed.

    One of his bow hairs fell off--sign of a good violinist who's really into it.
