    Again , a great review. We used to take a packet of the precooked rice or lentils to mix with the back country meals. Porridge for breakfast, bars during the day. As you say remove as much of the packaging as you can.

    Thanks for your common sense practical advice. I am getting my gun licence and looking forward to a hunt. Calm and slow, yeah I like that attitude. Regards David.

    Good one Robbo, your vid shows the basics that everyone needs to think about..people can modify their equipment around this.Try the Happy camper meals if you haven't already, they are slightly heavier and take a little while longer to cook but they are up another level than the back country meals👍

    • @BoltActionProductions
      @BoltActionProductions  7 лет назад

      Thanks PJ. The Happy Camper meal are the ones you have to submerse in water aren't they? I haven't tried them but I too have heard they are the ducks nuts. Possibly a bit too large for this sort of trip and would require a larger billy to be carried in as well. Will give them a try if I get the chance as they may suit some other situations really well

    Have a look at the jetboil minimo or the msr windburner. Fast water boil as well as simmer control for cooking in the pot also. Appreciate the effort in putting together the videos.

      The boys bought a couple of new Jetboils. They worked well as did mine. There are plenty of cookers on the market and at some stage you just have to be happy with what you've got unless you want to be continually unloading your wallet. My Jetboil Titanium has served me well but if and when that dies I will look at the newer options. Thanks for watching mate

    Loving the Vids Steve watched all to date.. Am looking at starting up backpacking and like the idea of home made fire starters any chance you could find out that secret oil Lee uses as the additive?

      I will send him a message now to find out his secret recipe. I know it has Vaseline in it. Sorry, wrong recipe. 😂😂😂

      Ha-ha, much appreciated.. Best be sure to mention its for the fire lighters! 😂

      Jimmy Closter . From Leigh. Buy a large jar of Petroleum Jelly or maybe two and a couple of large bags of cotton wool balls. I also grab a bottle of Ti-Tree oil from Coles as well. Melt down the jelly slowly in an open saucepan. When it’s fully clear, keep it warm enough to stay liquid, then it’s ok to add the Ti-Tree oil. By this time it’s time to start soaking the wool balls throughly, ensuring they are very wet. Then fish them out and squeeze them out individually between two soup spoons and pack then into chosen sealed containers.

      Many thanks, also to Leigh for letting on to his secret Vaseline recipe.. Ha-ha! Can't wait to try em, already found an old film case.. Again Cheers!

      Cheers Jamie. We are all continually learning and if a fellow hunter gets a tip here or there off some of our videos we have achieved our goal. We can never know everything and every hunter usually does things slightly different to the next. Sharing this sort of info on the Tube will hopefully share our way of life. Watching your videos I can only think the same of yourself and the boys you hunt with. Not long now mate and you will be back into it. I will be heading up the N/E of Vic pretty soon for a combination of holiday and hunting. Hopefully I will have some half decent video to follow.
