This is one purchase I regret. On paper this ship has a ton of DPM, but in reality the 5 inch SAP doesn't have enough pen and really struggles anything remotely angled, and the AP is a joke. If this had HE it would be so OP though.
I still like her but feel like she got overnerfed a little. Sap used to deal way higher damage in testing than it does right now.
ye DPM is lower than Tier 7 Atlanta, on top of not being able to set any fires

The AA is definitely amazing. This is the only ship where I managed to drop 114 (yes, onehundredfourteen) planes in 1 game (200+k damage on planes).
Of course it helped that it was a double CV game ;-)

@@joiki7 yep, the AA of the Austin is better, even when the Defensive AA Fire doesn't have +100% (only +50%) continuous damage of the San Diego (got also better Cooldown)
But for a T8 the AA is amazing
As a proud day 1 sandy owner, in general the wows community sleeps on her a ton similar to the way they did with hornet for a while, she feels like a playable atlanta, the heal, extra range, and better arcs really do wonders and tbh she feels better than austin since she isnt completely mediocre off the reload booster.
Just had a San Diego for 5 games as a "loan" from WG - surprised how different it plays from my Flint (which I really enjoy playing). Would seriously consider THAT swap.....
Got this in a prime gaming bundle, and I gotta say, it's really good. Asw planes, sap, reload booster, destroyer dfaa, hydro, and repair party. It doesnt like being targeted, and is especially allergic to torpedos, but it will absolutely melt a mispositioned destroyer, cruiser, and the superstructure of a battleship. A solid 8.5-9/10 ship.
Did you forget the San Diego has torpedoes?
I really don’t agree re the AP shells from a BB against a light cruiser. Almost everything else will absolutely destroy a broadside CL, even with less damaging shells. It’s just bad luck for the BB not having HE loaded,mor a ship with short fuse AP. It still does damage, just not critical.
I traded my malta for San Diego for a good reason, skill issues with CVs lol
'No armour is best armour' is a saying we have in war thunder tanks, taking no damage with light armour because the shells pass through you.

Yes he did, but it was his ASW planes that did it. If I remember correctly.

Since the last patch I've crashed twice and had to restart. Other players I regularly division with have been having the same issues. Also problems accessing the armory. I'm sure War Gambling will sell us a fix in a loot box soon. Fun video.

i wasn't going to do any of these trade ins, but after looking at it closer it ain't such a bad deal. i am trading in 3 of my cheapest tier 10 coal DDs to get 3 ships from the gold only category. then latter i can get back the 3 coal ships back and i am up ships overall and it won't cost me a dime. picking up the San Diego, Bayard, and Tirpitz

Got this ship as a Prime gaming drop and fell in love with it, I’m a USA light cruiser fan so this was a great contrast to a Cleveland, feels like you can be much more aggressive with the SAP and the AA is simply great, I actually feel like I can play the game when there’s a CV so don’t feel like I have to re-roll MM as often. Also I actually find I don’t use the booster a lot usually save them for too long.
I wonder if anyone noticed the fact that he LOST a turret with that full overpen salvo, ok ship didn't get deleted but permanently lost a turret which is 15% DPM lost and there was no mention of it in video or even in comment section lol.
Got this for a rental and loved it, immediately traded in one of my Cossacks for it.
I traded the Enterprise for the San Diego since I don't play CV's. SAP was disappointing. But overall it's better for me to have a cruiser I play than a CV I don't.

I also traded for her because of the meme above and I also think the SAP damage is kinda low for this kind of floaty shells. She also has 4.5 km torps with decent angles. Maybe that could have worked against Hampshire in the second game?
The rng in this video must be RUclipsr rng. This is not what you get if you buy this ship. Unless you spend a ton of money with the game, you will barely hit any shell. The game is rigged to the bone but it's a tabboo subject for streamers and RUclipsrs for obvious reasons so they will always assume this corporation is different from all others. They take revenge on personal levels and will try to bully you out of the game if you say negative things. I have a few battles where the rigging was so blatant I might upload it to reddit and ask for second opinions. These are really small people, it's not "good guys" running the game. Just a bunch of hateful people taking personal vendettas against players. This is how stupid this game has became.

It's a weird "phenomena". In the end I kind of understand you. You've spent a lot of money by now and it's messed up to accept some facts but at least content creators have a reason to not talk about it.
Obviously, you chose to be blind to the fact that they literally and openly insulted streamers they didn't like, tried to close down other channels because "there were negative reviews" and try to scam you with all the tricks in the book.

Best armor is no armor! The broadside tactic works more often than not with the Atlanta hull.
IMO they could 'fix' the "no armor best armor" thing for superlight cruisers by making an overpen that passes through the citadel do normal full pen damage. IIRC you used to (or they tested making) the citadel impossible to overpen, which meant getting deleted a lot, but a middle ground might work.
A Citadel impossible to overpen but that can't be autopenned by overmatch might be a compromise
I average more in sandy than austin when playing solo and that is hilarious to me. Been loving Sandy since day 1 release
Got this for a rental, noticed the guns get knocked out a ton, and sap seems to struggle to pen (only 10 point captain so didnt take imp sap) but its AA is great, and it has DFAA, plus decent ranged trops conceal and plane ASW, fun little ship for sure tho can be frustrating at times.
Absolutely love my San Diego.
Lads im wondering to trade in one of my coal tier X for Sandy. Doubloons are a big problem for me compared to coal.

You do understand this was a *CLAA*...it was designed as an _anti-aircraft cruiser for fleet defence._ And racked up 18 Battle Stars doing so, screening the likes of _Hornet, Enterprise, and Victorious._ _San Diego's_ class had the greatest AA broadside of any US warship in WW2. The idea that this ship is anything less than a monster on flak is appalling. Yet another example of why I don't waste my money on this game.

I like the San Diego BUT it does such little damage per salvo U literally need that reload booster to do any damage..🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
All cruisers should get asw planes. If they have visible depth charges on the ship itself, then they should also get those. Can't tell you how many times I've wished for asw planes on a light cruiser or depth charges on a heavy cruiser, especially now with how aerial dropped mines are coming to the game and the only way to get rid of them is by using your depth charge armaments. It's SO stupid
Titanium nerves PQ! WP. And yes, sometimes the client when it crashes, doesn't allow you to compliment others for the rest of the day, I don't know why.
Its a piece of junk 4.5 km torps, can only kill dd`s and I traded it back in for a Simms much happier with the Simms. Sorry PQ this is a crap boat period.

Wow. Sub was totally worthless, as they usually are. Sat in cap doing nothing when he couldve been capping to help win.
My game has been freezing a lot since last update. I have to constantly restart the game and load up the match. last time i was punished for that by wargaming.
The armor is so thin that normal BB AP over pens on straight broadside presentation. Show some angle or bow/stern shots will citadel all day long
Ihave had the same bug three times. Seems to happen if I press battle then do other things on computer when waiting for game to find a battle. Had to restart the client/game.
they should just give all cruisers a heal and buff BB sigma 10-15%

Got it from Santa crates last year. I use it in Ops when I need some easy credits. It's good fun. But in Ops that broadside trick doesn't work. Oh, and don't forget you have torps just for that exact scenario at the end there!!

As one who's had Sandy since day 1 like to make a couple of comments on your impressions of its characteristics. As you discovered with linen the lack of armor actually makes it one of the best light cruiser armors games not only at its tier but in the whole game. Maybe not quite smolenski level but it's definitely in the no armor is best armor scheme. As for its AAA, it helps to throw at least a couple of Captain points at it but it's probably the second best cruiser AAA at tier 8. When using dfaa it gets an artificial boost similar to what Kidd gets.
Using Sandy well does take practice however it is basically become my second favorite carry Shep only behind Cossack and tier eight-ranked
I honestly don't remember where or when I got this ship, but after trying it out this ranked season, it's been a blast to play.
Still working on accurately gauging what ships I can and can't show flat broadside to though.
It's funny how the things they generally changed about the general SAP light AA cruiser concept, was making the SAP do dd HE levels of damage without a chance of fires, and making the AA almost completely useless when not using DFAA against a CV that eats flak. Good concept, nerf the strong aspects.

I thought a lot about what to sell for this ship (I don't have all coal ships yet) and finally decided to change Yoshino to San Diego, because I have Azuma too and Azuma is better for tier 8 than Yoshino to tier 10.
And you know, SD is really funnier than Yoshino

San Diego is Flint 2?
San Diego's hull is very thin so a lot of high caliber BBs guns with no short fuse will over-pen her.
san diego is an awesome ship i got a 131k dmg game a few days ago even after i did a bunch of bad moves sadly lost the game due to teammates rushing in too early at start

You can only get Siliwangi, Z-35, Fenyang, Ochakov, Loyang, Hampshire, Le Terrible, Tiger 59, Wichita, Gascogne, Irian, Saipan, Vanguard, Pyotr Bagration, Kidd, and Rochester from the anniversary token, so San Diego isn’t on the list, so get her from the trade-in while you can

@@TenjacBetween Roschester and Hamshire then Roschester is the better ship, Hamshire is just flat out a bad ship so don’t bother with it, you will be disappointed, while Roschester play like a Baltimore but you trade your US Radar for smoke.
I'm using this ship for a IX Angelo Dock Mission. It's terrible! Reminds me of the Munchen damage wise. I dropped 24 SAP shells on a destroyer and it didn't die. Ridiculous.

Really wish they incorporated some AP mechanic against broadside targets. Hitting 3+ AP on any broadside target that pens, should just be an autocitadel or something regardless of overpen.

@@AnimalCrackers5 It would nonpen the citadel, overpen the superstructure and pen the upper belt given a flat broadside close range, the statement you made though, can easily be interpreted as you wanting them to make a mechanic where hitting 3+ shells of AP on ANY surface of ANY ship with ANY AP shell, should automatically transform into citadels the moment you get up to 3 or more hits.
