I stopped collecting ALL physical items such as videogames, funkopops, toys, anime DVD, pokemon cards etc, because I got so sick of these resellers overpricing and ripping you off, especially if you want to sell some products, you know there's only going to offer 10% sometimes less for hundreds of items of what they sell them for, left a very bad taste in my mouth, and I stopped collecting after selling all my items for a bad price, I just thought, what's the point? I think these stores are their own downfall imo.

Gonna be honest here, to me Funko is the most consumerism centered hobby, people collect all this shit from every franchise, in every "limited" color from a obscure event and it just stays there on the humongous pile of wasted cash, I build gunpla and I have very specific memories of every kit I've build and painted and they are all from shows I love, so when i display my mecha, I do it with pride because i made those little guys and learned a lot while doing so, a funko collector feels pride at how much money he spends and how much he harassed a famous person for an autograph to increase value lol 😅

    • @chimpkinglich1637
      @chimpkinglich1637 4 месяца назад +1

To clarify, while I think Funko are ugly I'm fine with people enjoying them, I've even seen 1 or 2 that look decent enough that I would like one (I really like the big alduin Funko pop), I think small time collectors that just get a bunch of stuff from one or two franchises are ok, my biggest issue is with people that collect Funko pops because they are Funko pops and nothing else, no connection to the character/franchise, no personal memories, no actual investment besides talking about the monetary value of their see through bing bong Funko

Besides the gorgeous products that we see with our eyes and fun personality, your genuine perspective and insights are so helpful when thinking about the hobby or just business in general. It is true that it is not all of your hard work but sound business approaches that makes watching videos what you built so exciting. Thanks for taking the time to put them together. Wishing you continued success in your ventures and I hope my travels take me to one of your locations in the future! The issue ISNT the Pops, its that Funko ......exaggerates how much of them are on the market. I was a Funko dealer waaaaaaaaay back in the day (before Pops), and what ever they made - if they told me there's "1000 in the warehouse" there ended up being way more (and that was lamps and headphones). Then I got in on the "ground floor" with Hikaris. "Limited Edition of only 500 made", yet it was like Tribbles or Gremlins - they were EVERYWHERE and you couldnt keep up. I got out ages ago and STILL have Hikaris that dont move .... I'd loose sleep at night sitting on so much product. I wish Eternia the best of luck with it all .....!

Also seeing this guy saying signed pops don't have as much value because a lot of people want to get them signed themselves when the girl was trading pops in... but when they sell them they will price them often ten times as much if not more, if the funko is signed. It's just obvious the resellers are scamming and ripping off their customers, that's why I like no longer collecting because truth be told these resellers do not deserve the business, they are more like scam artists than small businesses.

As a person who use to sell funko at a toy store this is way too relatable. At 8:45 this would happen to me a lot. People would want too much for there collection ( ex: someones collection can be 800$ and they want like 700$ for it) It’s such a waste of time looking up the pops, most people are time wasters & rude in the funko community, it gets mentally draining overtime. It’s not the pops themselves because “bobbleheads” have always had following it’s the fact that Funko doesn’t give the pops time to gain followings….. they’ll have something out and before people can know about it it’s either sold out, poorly advertised, vaulted before people can get their hands on it, or variants are sent out waaaay too fast and it overwhelms the fans. Same thing that happens to a lot of tv shows nowadays. They spit out too many things at once and fans don’t want to spend the time on jt
Personally I only buy the ones that I like certain themes or characters. For example I’m searching for LOTR pops, any venom variants, green lanterns

Once Pops went anime it was the downfall of the hobby. Suddenly the pop market was wayyyy too saturated with overproductions and 10 variants of each character for each show that was out there. Before all that the hobby was actually kinda cool because the pops felt rare. No offense to anime but that was the moment pops became uncool.
There are only so many characters in this world that are actually collectible. The rest of them shouldn't have had so many of them made. Funko failed to test the markets of the characters they made they just way overproduced everything and stores wound up with endless supply with no demand

Obviously that means the business is doing well and you know what you’re doing. People in comments mention saving up to take a trip to the store to make an event of it and drop a lot of money. I do not own any Funko Pops, because I live in a tiny apartment and I do not have any where to put them. It also scared me off of buying any of them when Funko put $30 million worth of inventory in the trash. When a company throws $30 million dollars of their own products in the trash, that is not good news.
Then you talk about a store in the mall, that seems to be a bad place to sell them. Most people I know buy from local smaller stores, like Walmart, or local coin and hobby shops, or online at Ebay, Whatnot, etc. I buy almost everything I need from Ebay, and get it with the free shipping. I do go to Walmart, but just to buy food, and Kroger too.
I am 63 years old, and I have not been in a mall in 30 years. I do not collect cards or much of anything, except I do have 5 graded by CGC Spiderman comic books, and 4 graded by CGC Batman comic books. I bought them about a year ago as an investment, because I saw theyr were going up in value every year, and I plan to sell them in a year or so, most likely on Ebay, or Craigslist. I do also admit I am not the target age for Funko Pops, so I really do not know a lot about them.
My brother had a place that sold Beanie Babies, and he had a ton of them, they were big for a while, then they went bust, and he lost a ton of money on them because the prices dropped to almost nothing. I fear the same thing may happen with Funko Pops one day, then again, I might be wrong.

I am a funko pop collector and i think the problem is all the new funko pops being released depending on what they are, there not worth it, a lot of the more expensive or higher end price pops are a lot more popular, the only pops that sell out are con pops or funko shop exclusive pops that everyone really wants because its a big character. Newer pops just aren’t worth it while the older pops are cooler and hold more value, most commons just drop in price as soon as they come out because they have lazy designs or the show/movie it came from flopped eg. new aquaman movie.

Funko Pops could die tomorrow and I would not care that much. Is it cool my collection is worth a lot? yes. but thats not why I have them. I have my Pops cuz I like them. lets say Funko went bankrupt tomorrow and Pops became worthless, it would not affect me cuz I wasnt gonna sell them anyway. My philosophy is collect what you like, and since I like all my Pops and plan to keep them, I dont really worry about their value too much. in fact! it would be nice if all Pops were worthless cuz theres a bunch of super expensive old ones I really want lol. good luck on the stores and good luck on the youtube channel! I love Funko and anything involving toys or action figures or collectables so ill keep an eye out for new uploads.

Funko ruined their business model when they listed the company on the stock market and became beholden to shareholders. Shareholders only want profit, in their mind, volume = profit. So, they just started churning out endless amounts of Pops that nobody had asked for along with sweating the large IP's they hold, like Disney etc etc. It is no coincidence that pre-flotation Pops are far more valuable generally speaking, than post-flotation because the volumes were so much lower back then and lines got vaulted much quicker than today.
I collect Pops. I liked the old movies, TV shows and cartoon stuff and only collected what I liked/was a fan of. These days I rarely buy Pops apart from a few, from shows that I enjoy like The Boys. My collection is worth 10's of thousands but I won't be really adding to it as they now just churn out the same Pops with different pain jobs on them, once I have a particular figure I have zero interest in getting the same one again in a different set of clothes..... I am a box collector, and they take up quite a bit of space.
I collect lots of other figures too, if I went to your store I would end up having to re-morgage my house! Luckly for me I am on the other side of the Atlantic ocean😂

Sorry but you spoke incorrectly. Hobby DB does not base their prices on GEM 10 Mint. When you see a hobby DB price, that price is based on the average sale over a three-month period. They still have a high and a medium. Based on your information, I can only assume you haven't spent much time on Hobby DB.

You would think that these things would have dropped off by now.
I'll never understand why they're collected! Other than there's sooo many to chase down.

The way I see it as a collector (not of pops tho) is it gets old going to a store and never finding anything you wanna buy because all the greedy resalers bought them all up then you gotta pay double or triple to get said iteam, it gets to the point where you don't even care to collect w.e. line it is, honest if these companies would keep filling the stores with w.e. iteam sales out it would destroy the resellers and they would be stuck with a bunch of stuff they didn't truly want but wanted to try and make a fortune off, be a shame also if the government got involved and enforced scalping laws on store iteams
