We are Joe and Liisu, relatively new to RUclips but really excited to be a part of this community. We live small and sustainably in my home on wheels (a lovely van called Freyja) and from time to time out of our backpacks (we have not named the backpacks yet). On this channel, we ask you to join us on our travel adventures off the beaten track where we show you the beauty of untouched nature and wander into places most tourists don't dare to go.

As a Slovak, I am so sorry that you had such a terrible experience in Slovakia. The neighborhood you entered is called Lunik IX and it's probably the worst and most dangerous neighborhood in the whole Slovakia😂I am just glad that nothing worse happened to you there and also hope that you got to see the beautiful part of Slovakia as well, since there are so many beautiful places here💛 I really enjoy watching your videos, keep it up🙂

When you go to such small towns of India , village people obviously get suspicious, then curious because you are not like them . And they never see foreigners staying in their towns.
If you go to metro cities like Mumbai, Bangalore no body will bother you, they wont even care what are you doing where you are staying !
You must know the culture and behavioural patterns of the country first before visiting any country. Why to visit and stay in such small towns without knowing anything about it ? You Should stay in big cities.

Hey Joe, yes it has been awhile. Yes and yes. I am retired and I did purchase a 4x4 Sprinter built out. In fact, I am leaving for southern Utah's red rock country and the grand canyon today for a couple weeks of hiking. You and Liisa have been very busy traveling the world. You have had some incredible adventures. 🙂

Wow, this is so incredibly nice to hear that you made your dreams happen and are living out the retirement in your own terms!
Hahh, but Yea, we have been busy as well and seen around 50 countries from our vans windows 😁.
In November we will start a new journey to the Arabic Peninsula and hopefully in about a year or a bit more we will be able to start discovering Canada and America on our next big adventure 😁👍

I make a point almost everyday to help someone out in some way. Whether it's money (helping pay for groceries/in dire straits/whatever the case is) or if it's just asking them if they need any help. Especially if they don't ask because I feel that people are sometimes embarassed to ask for it. It is not only part of my job but I wouldn't feel right if I didn't ask them. A kind word (hi/hello/have a nice day) all of those things go a long way. As we literally have no idea what another person is going through at the specific moment when they meet you. I try to do all I can to ensure that they have a pleasant experience.
No matter what I am going through and it is a LOT (PTSD/Depression/Anxiety) due to the military, childhood trauma, and passing of my younger brother to name a few. I still try my best to always treat the person that I am talking to like a human being.

I think that for us in the Western culture, we’re so used to the state and government looking after us and the non-failing infrastructure, that relying onto other people has become unnecessary. Whereas in countries where the state and government is more a boogie-man rather than safety net, people looking after each other is priceless. Also, what I learned back in the days of travelling in the Middle East, hospitality is a unwritten law. Dates back to the nomadic era in the unforgiving nature.

If you were a person from the early 20th century when cars were just invented, and you saw a lambourghini, everyone in the whole city would want to see it. Something simillar is happening there. People in villages dont get foreign visitors, especially caucasian. These people have never seen a person like you. At best they have heard stories of such people living in far away lands. Lastly as to why they simply keep staring and staring. NO ONE TAUGHT THEM BOUNDARIES. NOONE TAUGHT THEM DONT STARE.

Your travels show, as I too have experienced around the world, that 99% of the people are good, 100% of the governments are bad!

There are some vloggers who have claimed that Pakistan is a better country than India.
This is because in Pakistan they have been to Islamabad, Murree, Mansehra and Swat.
This is like going to Chandigarh, Shimla, Kullu and Manali and then judging India.
However, in India they have only visited Manikarnika Ghat, Taj Mahal, Paharganj and Dharavi. These places are a tad better than Orangi Town.
So they went like intrepid travelers to Pakistan and in India they did tough backpacking.
Also every country has its bad side.
There are many places in USA particularly in Midwest and Deep South which look like Lyari Town 20 years ago.
Also those vloggers who do tourism in India have had great experiences. Some foreigners who travel to India find India too touristy so they want to see the real and raw India. In order to see real and raw India, they choose hotels costing US$ 6 a night, roam around in slums, hustle in street markets and eat street food. Then they have bad experiences and claim India sucks and India is bad.
You should see biking trips of Wildlens Abrar you will figure out what India is.

No reason to get scared, when Indians stare at You on the country side. People are just curious, since they don't meet foreigners often and they hardly can communicate as they don't speak english and You probably do not speak any local language. But I was bothered in the beginning, too ;-)

So interesting the way the Indian community stalked your van (and you guys of coarse).
You guys ought to go back to India with backpacks and be more a part of things there.
Gypsies with vans ain't gonna work there.
Or come to the west- USA for the snowbird van experience. It's really common.

  • @israr144

people were staring because their were curious what foreigners are doing in their villages as no foreigner go there. they have done nothing wrong only problem they had they did not know English. so they did not communicate. that's why they have become villains.

India is an overdose of fame! I was in a remote area of Rajasthan, taken in an old open Land Rover across a dry river bed where there was a festival taking place, 10s of thousands of people... All of a sudden they were interested in ME! The Land Rover was surrounded by thousands and thousands of people. Far too much touching too place! It was totally safe as I was with the son of the local chief BUT, scary, YES!

Border between iran and Pakistan has always been peace full, but blochistan province has unfortunately been unsafe for decades, unsafe not only for foreigners but for locals as well, by now I'm sure you must have learnt alot about the region, police escort is mendatory for foreign passport holders ( even if they are from Pakistan ) i just don't understand why it took seven and a half days, it usually takes couple of days to cross through blochistan.
Anyways i do apologize for the scary experience, but trust me being kidnapped by the terrorists is way too scarier😂 kidding, keep safe always!
