Are Dollar Tree's 'Premium' Puzzles Worth Your Time?

  • I finally got around to checking out the "premium" puzzles from Dollar Tree. These $3 puzzles are from RoseArt's Puzzle Collectors series. After unboxing these two, we start piecing together the 300 count set, called Country Fair II, and then get right into working on the 500 count set, called Fishing At The Cottage. After completion, I talk about how these two puzzles compare and differ in quality and overall puzzling experience, as well as seeing if they stand up to my pick up and storage test.
    Let me know what experience you've had with these inexpensive sets from the Dollar Tree, or any cheap puzzle.

    I like that you review cheaper puzzles, I hate hearing about a puzzle brand and then going to their website and finding out they are 30 - 40 dollars for a 500 piece puzzle.

      I'm happy to hear others appreciate my cheap puzzle reviews. Honestly, I wasn't sure in the beginning if they would get any good interest. Since trying out all these puzzles, I'm learning that sometimes price doesn't matter, and it is possible to get a decent experience with a cheap brand new set.

    Great video, thanks for sharing! And about piece sizes, many of dollar tree's are made with kids in mind, but sometimes big pieces are advertised for senior puzzlers too as big pieces are easier for them. 🙂

    • @thepuzzledmandy
      @thepuzzledmandy  9 месяцев назад +3

      So true! They carry such a big variety of kid themed puzzles, which is fantastic considering that kids can lose or damage pieces so easily. You wouldn't want to spend too much on puzzle sets for them. Big puzzle piece sizes are also great for people with bad vision. Kind of like me LOL I really struggle with small pieces. Dollar Tree sets are also great for seniors considering that many are on a very tight budget with low income.

    That cottage jigsaw is nicer imoho, Mandy. If that was my house, I'd be employing a gardener to look after the plants and flowers :-)
    Have you thought of laminating your jigsaws and putting them up on your wall, using maybe blue-tac and that way you can show them off and cos of the blue-tac can change them easily? They could look like a mural on your walls 🙂

    • @thepuzzledmandy
      @thepuzzledmandy  9 месяцев назад

      True, gardener would be much helpful 😂
      Haven’t thought about laminating, but I have started glueing them. I didn’t think to use blu-tax, that’s a great idea! I want to start putting up on the wall behind my couch. Hope you’re recovering well Ernie!

      @@thepuzzledmandy From all the money you'll make showing off your jigsaws as a Jigsaw Museum, you'll be able to afford a gardener :-) Yeah, you want to show off some of your talent...such a waste to break them up and put them back in the boxes. I see the Specialist next week Tuesday so see what he says. I am feeling pretty much back to normal yet they do say anywhere from 2-6 weeks after surgery to fully recover. Just between me and you (and anyone else reading this post), I am not in a hurry to return back to work lol I am really enjoying staying at home and getting paid 🙂 Just got another list of 500 YT channels I need to sort thru and approach and i havent even touched my previous 3000 YT channels list. Still have re 25 other ppl to re-connect with first and chase up. I'm getting there. My focus is coming back, which is a good thing 🙂

    I really liked the 300 piece one, so vibrant and colourful. Held together well so that was a bonus. 👍 The 500 one wasn't quite so good but decent enough for the price you paid. When I buy jigsaws I tend to go by the image. I have a couple of jigsaws that are 200XXL and 300XXL bought because I really liked the image. When they get passed on it means that someone who has handling difficulties can do them.

    • @thepuzzledmandy
      @thepuzzledmandy  9 месяцев назад +1

      Definitely, these sets are very decent for the $3 price tag. The 500 didn't hold up well, but it was still good fun and the image was great. If my daughter decides she doesn't care for these images, they will most definitely get passed on to donation.

    Howdy... yes I enjoy the Puzzle collector brand from $ tree... to me they are almost as good as Buffalo or Ceaco....and have cute images.. I enjoy your channel because you are the guru of the budget minded... I buy very few new... My mind boggles every time you sort... I have tried that method and end up frustrated as to where to put what.. maybe I do puzzles with more detail, I tried this with a Charles Wysocki and still felt frustrated.. I lay all my pieces up, then as I work on sections I pick out what I need. I enjoy the slow pace of just looking for a piece....I also can take a long time just sifting thru the box for edge pieces... just zoning out.... enjoy enjoy this wonderful fall weather... see ya next Sunday

      Im not interested in any kind of speed puzzling at all. I usually just root through the box trying to find somethhing that looks close and sort on the fly as I build it. Can take a week to do a 500 piece this way but thats ok with me

    I think the fit issues have to do with the age of the die that cuts the puzzle. An old dull die would squish and distort the pieces more than a new sharp die Maybe cheap puzzles just use the die longer to get more puzzles out of their investment, acceptable in a cheap puzzle, but not an expensive puzzle . Nice to see you picked up the caliper, takes some of the guesswork out of the puzzle quality evaluations.

    Just joined your Discord channel great place to hang out, I have a lot of puzzles i got in bags for .25c each but no boxes or anything. I posted a mountain scene in your discord recently of it finished. Cant go wrong for .25 each even if i have no clue what the image is or the company. I even got one that appears to be a underwater scene but the pieces are 3 different sizes, the edge are huge pieces the middle is smaller pieces and the center in regular size pieces...very interesting you dont see a puzzle everyday with 3 different piece sizes

    The $1.25 are uick and easy and not too bad. The $3 are OK. I would buy again if at least 500 pcs. My store just changed over but they do not have the puzzles. I need to try another store.

    • @thepuzzledmandy
      @thepuzzledmandy  3 месяца назад

      The 1.25 are definitely good quick fun, but I especially like the 350 piece counts as I think their quality is much better compared to the 500s. I also agree on buying the $3 but only for 500 counts, more pieces means more puzzle time so better value in the end. Hope you find puzzles at your next closest location. I haven't been to Dollar Tree in long while so I need to see if they've got anything new. Although I did hear recently that they are increasing the prices again! What a shame!

      Oooo, I have to say my absolute favorite is Pintoo puzzles. Their image selection is amazing, and their plastic pieces are so darn satisfying to piece together. I also love that you can easily store them and there's no worries about it coming apart. They are quite challenging though because of their piece size, but I can go on and on about how much I love them. As for a non plastic brand, I really do love Buffalo puzzles. Their image collection is amazing and huge, and they are an excellent value for the overall quality and puzzling experience.
