I was having a wonderful time listening to all kinds of music - mostly classical but even AC/DC. Then I saw and heard Barbara sing a weird piece from Ligeti. It was the only time the neighbours called & said turn it off - no sense of fun. It was then that I became "infatuated" with Barbara. No other word describes my feelings but it does not take in the immense talents of this most extraordinary woman. Occasionally, a talent comes along that tips the world of music on it's axis. More please Barbara. Please don't retire. If you must, then teach.
Fuerza, destreza, encanto y un gran swing, todo un portento musical Barbara Hannigan. Posee una gran técnica y sensibilidad. De lo mejor con Gershwin o Ligeti... simplemente "barbara" !!!
Remarkable, never seen this combination. Surprising to see conductor and orchestra start singing. And she's pretty good at singing. Good voice and presence.
Erfolgreich, weil ein großartiges Musik- und Rhythmusgefühl und dazu auch noch ein Mensch mit natürlicher Eleganz und Autorität mit anatomiebuchzierenden Muskelpartien
I think it is pretty awesome if someone is able to conduct and sing at the same time. Or to play the cello while blowing a horn. Or to sing while playing harp. Or to conduct while playing a harpsichord. That's all very awesome, and takes some real talent. On the other hand, if I were in the orchestra, or in a choir, I wouldn't like my conductor to have other businesses than to conduct. If you've ever been in a choir or orchestra, you know how important it is to have a collective focus, to really be attentive, one of heart, and make music *together* . I would find it irritating if the conductor was partly with us, partly with his cello, her harp, his harpsichord, or her voice. I wouldn't like it one bit if I didn't have eye contact half of the time. So sorry, no, although it is 'pretty awesome' that Barbara Hannigan can perform two tricks at the same time, I would not want to be in her orchestra.
@Le Trompettiste: I am glad to hear that you enjoyed playing with Mrs. Hannigan. I do appreciate her double talent. And of course, you have true experience with her as a conductor, while I offered only my expectation as an outsider. It is well possible that different musicians have different needs. My preference is obviously not the same as yours, and that's o.k. I am a baritone in a 4 x 8 chamber choir. Doing concerts is a fabulous experience, specially with a capella music, when nothing else exists but a group of people who use their minds, bodies and voices to create art. As said: one of heart, one of focus. Perhaps it is a bit greedy or egotistical of me, but I want the conductor's full attention to make those glorious moments work.
Mick The Nick talk to me about violinists and pianists that do it for decades with limited hands. She has created a body language of a dancing conducting and singing so she is very comunicative yet very soft and fluid.
Nie je zla, urcite je to skvela umelkyna. Ale takych opernych spevacok mame len na malom Slovensku aspon 5. Na Dimitrija Chvorostovskeho nema!!!! Cenu Gremmy mal ziskat on!! Ale to by sa v tychto casoch musel stat zazrak, aby bolo nieco spravodlive voci Rusku a Rusom.....Barbara mohla par rokov pockat, este je mlada ....!

Amazing Barbara Hannigan. how can you not love this woman and what she is doing for music today!
I love when the orchestra starts singing along in Embraceable You!

Check out her Grisey.
Excellent performance. At 2:39 there is direct quote of Mahler’s 3rd Symphony, slow movement.
This is pure joy, and the orchestra musicians know it, obviously, the audience too. One word describes my response to this concert: gratitude.

Fantastic!!! How sweet and perfect!
Barbara wasn't annoyed when the naughtier members of the band burst into song, that displays a great deal of patience!

Technically superb, but does not trigger such memories like Sammy Davis rendition.

Mick The Nick chances are she doesn’t want you either...
That is certainly possible. Now what?

So do you also dislike Barenboim conducting the orchestra while playing Beethoven's Piano concertos?

She should stick to contemporary classical music. Her voice isn't beautiful and sounds odd in the tradition rep.
