Excellent point. I just pinned twice and both times got the incorrect side up. Would be nice to know which side is up. Guess I'll try again, eventually I have to get it right. I mean how many different ways can it got, right? LOL
I just got a Phoenix frame...Yippee! When loading fabric...the backing is always Right side DOWN. The quilt top is always right side UP. and Batting is always right side UP.. (yes some batting has a right and wrong side if scrimmed). After working with the frame for a while....I have come to loath pinning. IMHO I highly suggest you look into the zipper method or velcro method for attaching the backing and quilt tops to the leaders instead of pinning. Some use the red snappers as well. For me I ordered two 120" separating zippers from amazon. (if you have 10' frame or 144" if you have 12 foot frame). Mark the center of each zipper with a zero centering tape measure and use sharpie marker or perm ink pen to mark 1" increments to the left and to the right of the zero line for full length on both of the zippers.. You must mark the top and the bottom of the zippers in 1" increments so they match exactly. Now that each top and bottom of the zippers are marked, upzip the top of zipper #1 sew permanently to the end of take up bar leader fabric.. Unzip the bottom of zipper #2 and sew permanently on to the backing leader near your belly bar. Now you can sew the other 1/2 of the zippers to the top and bottom of your backing when ready. You can just line up the numbers on top and on bottom and I use a basting stitch on my sewing machine to quickly attach the zippers. I then zip on the top and bottom and if I matched the number correctly..(my backing is square to begin with).I get a perfectly aligned backing. I don't use the quilt top fabric bar at all. I place my batting and float my top right on the backing bar - waterfall it over and use quilters clamps to add tension to the quilt top as needed. For me its SO much faster and easier than pinning. Happy Quilting!
I like that you used fabric so we could easily tell top from back ... however the problem is you didn't spend enough time showing us when you were loading the fabric onto the rollers which way right and wrong sides of the fabric should be facing to load properly, and we can't tell by looking because of the solid colors. It's probably 2nd nature to you but for us beginners.... it's more like rocket science.

You didnt mention when you are pinning the top on which way are you pinning? Right side facing up?
