  • I wrote this song for my daughter, born right after 9/11. This world will be built by love: ours and God's. In the best and worst of moments, non-fundamentalist "believers" and "atheists" are reaching for the same hope using different language. Amen to both.
    עולם חסד יבנה
    Olam Chesed Yibaneh
I will build this world from love.
And you must build this world from love.
And if we build this world from love,
then God will build this world from love.

Just retuned from Rosh Hashanah services where we sang this song. Great to hear sung by the composer and read about its origin. La Shana Tova to all.

Thank you for the gift of this song. While I am saddened that the brokeness of our world keeps asserting itself, I am grateful that your song is there to offer hope and inspire action to repair the world.

We just prayed this song in our 9/11 Memorial Interfaith Service at the University of the Incarnate Word. It was shared by Rabbi Benjamin Richards and then sung by Dr. Orit Eylon, Voice instructor at the university. Thank you for this prayer and for the charge to take part in this world that was created for us with love. by love.

I had heard Rabbi Creditor's beautiful song several times since 9/11, but when Rabbi Angela Buchdahl and Cantor Julia Cadrain sang it at Central Synagogue in the midst of the horrible mess made when refugees cleared to enter our country after a long struggle to get here were turned away, I came close to tears. My daughter has convinced me that grace or chesed is our way out of all these messes but this song are our marching orders I think.

I heard this song for the first time this Sunday at a #JewsAgainstICE rally attended by 1,000 Jews, rabbis, representatives from Make the Road, and allies that shut down an Amazon bookstore in NYC in protest of Amazon and Palantir Tech's contracts with ICE. It moved me to tears. From a non-Jewish ally - thank you.

This has to be one of the most beautiful songs that I've ever heard. I just read on Forward that you are very unhappy with the pro-Palestinian protesters using this song and you should be. I don't even think that they understand the true meaning of this song and its context. My hope is that this will change in the future. Thanks for writing such a lovely and beautiful song.

It was almost a year ago, after the massacre, that two thousand of us, residents of Squirrel Hill and friends from neighboring communities, walked through our streets for four hours . We sang two songs alternately, throughout the afternoon. Ozi v"Zimrat Yah. And this song.
The music helped us with our grief.
Meanwhile, the First Family of Flim Flam enjoyed a photo op a block away at the synagogue.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I was at a music conference over the weekend (in London, run by the UK's Movement for Reform Judaism) and heard/sang this song for the first time, and fell in love with it. As soon as I got home I looked it up as I wanted to find the composer! I hope you don't mind that I posted my own cover/arrangement. I'm in a tefillah band and I'd love to introduce this song to my shul.

Congregants of Hinenu, led by Rabbi Arianna Katz, joined by Quakers from Homewood Meeting, sang this beautiful song at Shabbat services at Homewood Friday, as Muslim women from CAIR and pastors from two Protestant churches stood vigil in the rain outside. On Saturda morning, congregants at Beth Am sang it, led by Rabbi Alan Berg, joined by an equal number of Baltimore residents of all faiths, who filled the synagogue to overflowing. On Sunday, when the celebration of peace and light known as the Baltimore Ceasefire movement honored a young woman whose life was taken by murder that morning in an alley full of broken glass in West Baltimore, Beth Am and Hinenu congregants joined African American and non-black celebrants in that bleak alley, led by Erricka Bridgeford, and sang Olam Cheded Yibaneh. Light travels around corners. We WILL build this world from love.
