I love this scene, I think its what sets apart Peggy from the other women in the series. It also shows how Pete will never know someone else completely because he is too preoccupied with the chase of love ratheer than love itself.
I don't believe Pete ever loved Peggy. She was just the representation of the free part of himself that he gave up when he became a henpecked husband. He knows nothing about Peggy, as her little confession reveals.
Pete wants it to be about him, like his limited understanding and perception is the whole. Then Peggy enlightens him she's really in the reality loop, and he says why did you have to ruin it for me?
I think he knows a great deal about Peggy: they are both young and ambitious, though they are different sorts of people and honestly through the first two seasons, Peggy and Pete share a knowing relationship that is unique to only them and which they don't put to words until this confession. Pete does genuinely love her. Trudy was what he was *supposed* to do and Peggy is what he would have wanted if that wasn't the world he was in.
This scene is so great. My favorite scene of the season I think. Why couldn't have Pete said this last season?! They're both such great actors. I hope this isn't really the end for their characters. Thanks so much for posting this!
There is a scene after the final of this scene, where it looks like there is a rifle in the hand of that fellow -as though he were to commit suicide; or so it seems. . Can you rewatch the movie ending and let me know if you see it too, and what you think or if you can't see the rifle, then tell me what is that thing in the middle of the screen image. . cheers.
Wow- the acting and writing is so good. This is a terrific show.
I just adore these two. Brilliant acting and great chemistry!

Makes my cry every time I watch it.
This scene was so sad, but I must say Peggy looked really good here.
