I put £180 into the Bank of England inflation calculator and its the equivalent of £53 in 1981. Worth having that perspective on the price. Its very reasonable.
very nice silly me sold my 148 its been a challenge to find another i was looking at the 3900 i did not no until are video there is a 2023 version money would be best spent on one of these rather than some hacked up old 148 ff
Nice and tidy circuit board. It's amazing looking at how few components are used compared to the likes of the 148GTL-DX. Integrated Circuits making a huge difference.
Yes very tidy a whole lot of diff its not related to the old 3900 except the front. I had three and none of them were good, and they all drifted wait to get.warm and as.soon as you keyed the Mike it would get warmer, and drift again its old hat them days but now we have a very nice radio it's been needed looks good and it's needed, in a fast radio world and you have to keep up if not we will buy from some were else I like the front maybe round knobs but it's tidy, but I will get mine from knights and let them program it some one some were got it sorted well done.who ever.it was.
Just a test side by side with a middle to older 3900 or 148gtl to see how the technology has improved or not...either way it's good that at least there are still being made, developed and sold....
I love the style of this radio but I'm looking for something that scans the band automatically for you rather than manually flicking through the channels. Any suggestions?
@@m0ogy worth considering but I prefer the retro look of the superstar/Cobra I used to have a Mustang back in the day. Shame it doesn't have a scan function :(
Surprised they only made 500 of them. By the way, there must be an engineering menu to let you turn the deviation up a bit. All of those anytone radios have that.
Did the radio come in that box? If that's the case Iam surprised it's made in China because that looks like a Ranger box? I have yet to see a Ranger built product thats actually manufactured in China, unless of course the Chinese are now copying the Ranger style packaging
Pihernz in Spain has the copyright name for Superstar and SS 3900 here in the United Kingdom (it's of the name copyright page) and it looks like it has been with them since 2010, I believe the last batch was made for them too, this latest one is made for them by the company behind Anytone. This is indeed the packaging it came in Tim.I don't think either Ranger or CRT in France have anything to do with the 3900 now
@@m0ogy thats interesting and I suspect the last Ranger built 3900 was probably the 3900EU which was restricted to the EU band only hence the model designation.
@@timothybrown7792 Yes, I nearly bought one and fitted an eprom. Someone was selling them with it fitted. This new radio seems to be a better solution.
Get in my shack! It's great to see you back Dave.
New microphone seems to be working well Dave,Was able to switch over via menu (5) from electronic to dynamic.Good audio report on both microphones.
I'll be getting one for mine soon
Enjoying your video's Dave best wishes from Swansea South West Wales de MW0CND. ;)

I think it is nicely built and for less than £200 a bit of a bargain IMO

Did you know the Stryker 955v2 had the same mainboard as this radio...
bonjour j'ai acheté la Superstar 3900 (2023 Model) je voudrais savoir comment la débrider, auriez vous une notice ?
Merci d'avance Bonne journée
Hope it's the same dimension that will be able to get a new face for my original 3900 🤣🤣 nothing beats the original one
👍
to bad it doesn't have a external plug for a freq counter, still a nice radio
What with internal prepared connector for frq ? Has or not ?
Big box,nothing inside.
