As a teacher since 1965, a member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers, and a piano major in college. I am gratified to see I teach Hanon the same way you do. JUST like my professor in college "RETAUGHT", with the rhythms, me after playing Hanon since I was five. Hanon is so basic, I was pleased to hear you say if you can do Hanon (and Czerny) you can play almost anything. I love my scales. I can't emphasize enough finding a teacher that is part of a program like Nat. Guild of Piano Teachers. No matter where you may move or live you can always find another teacher using John Thompson and the scale books. I expect my students to be PIANISTS FOR LIFE in five years and they have to sign a contract that they will take for five years. Anything less is really a waste of my time and their time. I don't teach to make money, I teach for the joy and also so people can LEARN TO BE MUSICIANS. I started playing the pipe organ at our church when I was eight. I couldn't reach the pedals. If you learn to play, you will never stop loving and understanding music. It is a lifetime of enjoyment. I can't imagine driving across the country and not having my music. I owned a trucking company and taught 18-wheeler drivers how to drive.
Thank you so much. I started on number 12 in Hanon today. I felt a bit tense. I tend to leave my hands open. I always struggled with rondo alla turca when I used to play it. Now I know why! Thank you for your videos on technique and teaching, I have learned a lot from you
The overhead camera angle makes it easy to see what you mean by opening and closing the hands. Thank you for adding that. I now understand why #12 has given me more trouble than other Hanon exercises.
I really enjoy your videos. I am a returning player with Burgmuller and Hanon and you are a great teacher and a wonderful player. I hope you do well. Thankyou.
I see something that I see in my own, and I would love your thoughts on it. It has to do with sympathetic motion in the thumbs. I notice that my left thumb often sticks out further than my right, as yours does. I also notice the thumbs dancing along to the other fingers. Is this something to delve into further?
Can we get a tutorial on that Chopin etude displayed on the video? 🤭 I really love the sound of It. Also, very good video. I noticed that I've been doing this completely unconsciously!
Maybe one day. Right now, I'm trying to stick to basic, broad topics that's relevant to many people, rather than about a specific advanced piece. That's something I have to do as a starting RUclipsr :) I have a performance video of this piece in my performance playlist If you haven't seen it yet.
Hey akira, i have learned hanon 1-17 but almost every time i play hanon, my wrist hurts so much, im think about giving up hanon and just stick to czerny and do scales and arpeggios to warm up
If you have pain, that's a sign of tension. Don't keep pushing and you should talk to your teacher to find out what's causing the tension. Like anything else, doing it wrong for a long time can lead to injuries.

I will definitely try it as soon as possible! A friend recommended it to for sharing!
Yay! I love when people find my contents by word of mouth. Welcome to the channel.
I love you ❤️⭐️
This explanation was pure gold. Now I understand the reason for some of the problems I face when playing pieces - and how to fix this.

In the discussion of closed versus open hand I think you have sufficiently answered why this exercise is not a perfect sequence

Also do you advise going through all the hanon exercises or just do one different hanon exercise each day
