Hey guys, here's my review of the new XP-Pen 15.6 Pro tablet and it was pretty damn good. Wacom alternatives have come a long way. If you're looking for a 16in tablet the only other alternative that would kinda make sense for this would be the new Huion 15.6 tablet which seems nearly identical. Maybe I'll try to get my hands on one of those to test it out...

When I got my 15.6 Pro I had some issues with the pen selecting things even if I was not touching the canvas. I was getting positive pressure at about 5mm that would decrease to 0 when I was lightly touching the canvas then going back up as I pressed.
The solution to this was to remove that pen nib and replace it with a new one, I guess something shifted in shipping. Once the new nib was in the pen worked fantastically, I didn't have to alter any settings. I don't know if this will help with your pen issue but it's worth a shot!

I have an XP-Pen Deco 01 and I have noticed the same issue with the pen having a hard time registering if you don't press hard enough. You kinda get used to it over time, and I don't know if there's any fixes for that currently, other than training yourself to just press a bit harder. But other than that even though my tablet is small it performs great and has an absolutely beautiful design, and is my baby. Being my first XP-Pen product, it really impressed me. The pen being a bit unruly at first is really not that important to me, because it has so many pros to outweigh that con.

    My Small Tablet Review:
Edit: I’ve explained further, updated and changed some of what I said based on kind folk that corrected me. Sorry for any misunderstanding I may have caused.
Yo, I bought an Artist 15.6 when it was on sale on Christmas (that started around November for some reason).
I've been drawing on it since then, and I have a few things to add.
    1. I have the same issue that Marc does in which you have to press hard sometimes to select tools and such. Also sometimes the tablet stopped recognizing pressure sensitivity all together, but taking the pen away from the screen and putting it back on seemed to fix it.
Edit: Xp-pen regularly updates their drivers so this issue might have already been fixed or will be fixed in the future... hopefully.
    2. If you're worried about back problems. Don't get this tablet. The stand that it comes with only has one angle, and (at least to my knowledge) you can't get an ergo arm for it. You could use books and stuff to play with the angle, but that's just too inconvenient in my opinion (yes, I'm that lazy).
Edit: You can buy a stand with more angles. Also take breaks every hour or so. I still think an ergo arm would be superior, I have come to hate looking down, but that’s just me.
    3. The tablet comes with a paper like feel, but after a month or so you'll completely lose that feel and its back to full on surfing on a glass screen.
    4. It seemed like the paper like texture that was applied to it protected it from scratches somehow, because after 2 months the screen began to scratch. Some of the scratches can be seen when the screen is on with a bright color, and the scratches can definitely be felt. If you already bought the tablet, I recommend wiping it and the pen every time you begin a drawing session, this will only postpone the inevitable though.
Edit: As I said, wipe the tablet before starting, the screen will thank you and it’ll last longer. You can also buy a screen-protector for it. The tablet actually comes with a screen protector, so it seems that what I scratched was the screen protector and not the actual screen. (I feel dumb now)
    5. The 60 angle pen tilt recognition is pretty bad. When you tilt it, the cursor and the pen start to get misaligned, in other words, the cursor does not stay on the pen tip, effectively making the pen tilt useless. To my knowledge, you can't turn this off so, if you're suddenly going to draw at a more comfortable angle in the middle of a drawing, expect the cursor to move a bit.
Edit: I was a bit too critical on the pen tilt, it’s not horrible but in my opinion I don’t like it, the driver updates have still not fixed it. Nonetheless, I got around this issue by following the cursor while drawing and not the pen-nib.
    6. I don't like the cable that connects to the tablet. The cable just sticks out, almost daring to have a hand accidentally bend it. The cable also slides off with enough force, so, if you accidentally push it a bit, the screen is gonna shut off.
Closing: If you're poor (like me) and you want to draw on a screen, I think this tablet will be the best bang for your buck, as I did some research on the other tablets, and they seemed to have the same issues, even wacom for some people. I tried the Huion Kamvas pro 16 for a month (a competitor to the Artist 15.6) and it seemed to have the same issues, minus 1. I didn't do a tilt support test so I don't know about 5.
All in all, if I could go back in time, I would just buy a Intuos pro. I'd draw the sketch on paper and do line art and color on the Intuos.
Edit: I’d still buy a graphics tablet if I’m on a budget due to back issues, and preferring to look straight rather than down.
    Hope this helped.

In my case, I don't see myself drawing on it anymore now that I'm drawing on glass.

I bought this one a few months ago. It's my first display tablet, so I can't really compare it to anything but so far I am very pleased with it. I did have a few issues with the drivers like crashes, where I had to restart my whole PC but it doesn't happen often. I heard people complaining about XP-Pen's customer support but I actually did have to contact them once (it was because of faulty USB drive on my PC, not the tablet) and they responded within a day. I agree that sometimes when you just click with the pen, it doesn't register and you have to click 2 or 3 times, but if you click and drag (like when you draw) there's no problem at all. Also, the parallax is more noticeable at the edges of the screen but it's not that big of a deal.

@@torimonet8402 It's holding surprisingly well and I am still using it. There is the occasional crashing of the drive but this happens very rarely. I can't even remember the last time the pen became unresponsive. The biggest problem I have with the tablet is the color accuracy. If you plan to print your work I suggest to invest in color calibration. Other than that this is a fantastic tablet for the price and I am very pleased with it. Considering the price differential, I'd say this display tablet makes a very respectable showing against the far, far more expensive Cintiq. CIntiqs are awesome, I've have a chance to test them out, but with the exchange rate in my country (South Africa), the cost is prohibitive, and times are tough for many. It's great to see the market produce viable alternatives for struggling artists 😉

All these reviewers get send these tablets for free, make a video about how great they are and then go back to their Cintiq Pro's .

    • @era3596
      @era3596 3 года назад

@@dareptor2620 What's wrong with that? It doesn't make it any less great. And honestly, for most people there is no NEED to drop 2Gs on a Cintiq, and most people can't afford that anyway. It's a luxury, and a nice one sure, but the quality of life isn't /so/ different that you should feel like you're heavily missing out if you don't have it. I've used screen tablets, standard tablets and Cintiqs all for professional work. They all have their pros and cons, but for the most part, between screen tablets there isn't /that/ much of a difference, experience wise, so it's all down to preference, affordability and availability. I personally like a screen tablet like this which is big enough, but not /that/ big that it takes up so much space ( which a Cintiq does ) by my computer.
People get Cintiq's since their industry standard for professionals, and have been for a while and there were no other choices, but the game is changing and there are comparable products with similar quality for a fraction of the price. [ Since you're paying for the brand, for the most part, with a Wacom ] .

I've been using myself the xp-pen artist 12 standard, sometimes not having the tilt option feels weird, but none the less, great choice for a noob like me. I can do the comic book style of shading pretty much decently, but learning to draw the shapes, and to learn anatomy takes so much for me haha xD You're a great artist to look up to! Keep it up!

I love the 15.6 used it for 6 months than gave it to my mom who does water painting, I am mostly a coder not an artist. Using a deco 3 from xp-pen for my backup until my Huion Kamvas 24 pro arrives. Funny I use these for designing a logic layout for the games I am building because it helps me get my thought process into a more visual view of how the program is organized. Cause layering details is awesome.

I've had it for a 6 months and like it. I had a Huion 18.5 HD display that died just previously, so after seeing some reviews I bought this one. The only bad thing was the latest driver when I installed it last year was it would randomly select the eraser tool in several graphics programs, so i rolled back the driver to a previous one and didn't have the problem. I should try a newer one now.
