For anyone wondering, the Prince ruperts drop is made when a drop of liquid glass falls into water, the rapid cooling creates pressure inward(i think might be the other way round) causing it do be very durable however only the main bit, the tail breaks really easy and if the tail is broken the entire thing explodes
They’re nearly unbreakable on the main bit
Big nerd here, glass shrinks when it cools down which creates a huge amount of stress on the molten centre of the drop as the outside cools more rapidly and tries to compress. That internal tension means the large end is incredibly strong against compressive forces (whack with a hammer, impact from a bullet, etc.) but means that when the thin end is cut, all that tension is released (for lack of a better term) and causes the bulb to explode.

I don't mean to ruin the magic (who am I kidding I absolutely do) but the Mario domino's are actually a 3D render. You can tell specifically because the pieces slide very subtly after falling, true plastic domino's would not have that smooth sliding. Also the picture is to perfect for pieces you couldn't predict where they're falling IRL, but you can in a simulator. There are actually people who make images with dominos in real life, but not like that.

A prince Ruperts drop can withstand up to 20tons of force on the bulb, if you even snap off a millimetre of the tail though the whole thing shatters.... Those hydraulics they used must have way less than the tensile strength to actually cause a dent in them 😬

@@yikeda2008 Well whatever the glass drop thing was, it was stronger than whatever material was made to make the hydraulic press. So instead of the hydraulic press crushing the glass(or whatever it was) the glass dented the press bc the material was stronger and more dense than it.

The glass drop thing can break very easy if you apply a small amount of pressure to the thinner bit but the drop part is like a Nokia 3310

The Rupperts drop in the hydraulic press is a mind blow... But it's definitely glass and definitely real. It's to do with how it's cooled down or something. Seen a video the other day about them. I was glued to it in amazement!

On about depressing digs to stay at. We went down to London for My sis's 21st and stayed at a what had to be a reasonable priced (to a northerner) hostel. The room me and my old man shared had some shitty windows that you had to get on the tips of the toes to get a peak. At the most boring roof top one could find, even the view of a Blackpool BnB out into an ally and backs of terraces was more exciting. For half amount spent at that London hostel, in Prague you have a good chance of a view of a street where there's that European architecture and all kinds of goings on through day and night.
