Sir you have some of the most amazing edges. And I credit everything I know about leather working to you. Thank you for what you have done for this industry
Awesome! I was watching your vids last night trying to gather up as much info as possible cus I’m in the middle of making one of these! Thanks for the help, just in time!
My interior is done a little different, I incorporate an ID holder on one side. I contacted C Loy and will be picking up some of his skins once I use up this sheep I have. Beautiful work as always.
Something I found is that when you bind or glue the interior liner to the out piece, if you bend the out piece while connecting the two, it will have more of a bend already formed. So less bunching in the middle and quicker break in.
Yes, this is the best way of doing a lined wallet(or anything that is lined and has a curve in its shape) some people build a little triangular mold for this exact reason. Usually, I use something laying around the house of the same shape for the same effect.
The skiving knife takes a lot of practice. I bought one a couple of years ago and using it on thin leather like you do is really hard. Haven't used mine in a while because of the projects I've been making but I thing I need to sharpen it and work on the skill a bit.
I love roper wallets. More biker look as I use chain as I am disabled and don't like sitting on my wallet. I like "idiot" chains so that 1) I know if the wallet slips out, it's on a chain and easier to pick up. 2) it's a little more difficult to pick pocket me especially when I'm in my wheelchair. Besides, that's not so much a wallet as it is a piece of art that holds crap... lol.
Thanks Don ! Have a few customers wanting wallets have arron 's pattern for biker wallet , and will use your pattern and his for a couple of choices my wallet is old school style with only a zipper pocket and two open pockets with two snaps. Reddoc leathers. Thank you again.
Awesome looking wallet Don!! Question.... couldn't you skive down the center portion of your outer leather a bit to allow it to bend a bit easier? Or maybe soften it a bit with a conditioner that area to help as well? I ask because that is what I did when breaking in mine and my kids baseball/softball gloves and mitts. I always ouled the hinge mire than the rest of the glove and when you're breaking in top quality first base gloves and catchers mitts it makes a huge difference.
I would like to ask where you got that razor knife you trim with, never have seen one in any of my suppliers but looks like it does a terrific job . Thanks

Don, is there any easier way to saddle stitch something long like a belt by hand without having to pull 30+ feet of thread through every single hole? I don't want several start/stops, but it is gruesome hand stitching something that long. Thanks!
You can use several sections of shorter thread then over stitch the end pieces. Harder to explain then to show but check out How to Handstitch by Al Stohlman. It shows how to do it.
Just bought a copy of the digital pattern. Excited to give it a shot! Thanks!
I can't believe you free-handed all of that! Beautifully done!
8:30 Fn aye, Cotton! F-N Aye! Wow Don, that's beautiful. Drawing that flower from scratch was amazing. Thank you!

What type of "file" is the pattern pack? Looking to use my laser engraver for the "cutting" and wondering if the files would be compatible.

Where can I get that xacto knife looking tool to cut and trim?
He uses the standard xacto handle with a rectangular blade like what is used in the safety skiver. I've tried it and it works really well.
Any reason you are not scuffing the leather before glueing?
There's no reason to do it, gluing flesh to flesh and also sewing.
This might be a dumb question but why the glue on both surfaces
Google “how does contact cement work” and you’ll have your answer.

@@wombatmoonbeamstupid comment. Nothing wrong with machine stitching or machine burnishing.
