This is a strange teaching. I think that the Ikwere people and Igbos are one people.
Because I was born in Port Harcourt. I also know that Igbos have never colonized anybody at all.
Because Ndigbo goes out for greener pastures. However Igbos do not take all the money they making in other places to their homeland.
Ndigbo are known to invest and developing wherever they've immigrated to.
Are you saying that Ikwere people also imitates the Igbos in naming their children their Igbo names? But Ikwere people are never related to the Igbos in anyway, is that what you're saying? Ndigbo are in Yorubaland and almost everywhere in Nigeria. But there's no arguments of whether they're relating to anybody in other places rather than coming there and seeking for the greenner pastures. But can anyone honestly say the same between the Ikwere people and who I have always maintained and believed that they are relations by blood to blood relationships to the Ikwere people. If an elderly Ikwere man dies every traditional rights performed to the Igboman are also performed to the Ikwere, and nothing would be left out of both traditional rights between an Ikwere and an Igbo. Ndigbo says prayers with Kolanots in a serious occasions and so does the Ikweres. Does Ikwere people performs such rights, through which we remembers our past relatives and our ancestors? I have watched the Elderly of the Ikwereland performed the same rights. Or are you saying that Ikwere people learned all those through only when Ndigbo came to do business in the Ikwereland and they abandoned their own culture and took the Igbos culture to replaced their own Ikwere culture, is it what you're saying? My brother prof. Myself, as someone born at Port Harcourt in Ikwereland in 1950s, I believed the Ikwere person has a developed IQ like the Ndigbo people, and there's no difference between their intelligence levels. And I also believed that Ikweres and Igbos are not different races. These mistakes had caused some people their lives in Northern Nigeria during riots, when some people have the opportunity to runway to save their lives but they insisted that they are not Igbos but Northerners arrived and taught them a lesson who and whose they knew as the Igbos. Therefore they are knowledge we will impacts to our children that could come back to hurt them in future. Meanwhile, I must continue learning. Because this took away from me all what I think that I knew about my Ikwere people's all these years. I'm an Igbo born in Ikwereland in the 1950s. I rest my case. Because I still don't know. I will continue listening. Thank you immensely Professor and remain blessed. Listening to you from USA.

I didn't want to comment, but there is a lie here, that there is no central Igbo. There is a central Igbo that every Igbo, including Ikwerre person understands. And there are dialects, and Ikwerre dialects are part of Igbo dialects. I understand there are 5 distinct Ikwerre dialects. There are over 285 dialects of Igbo language. Even in my village, we know different kindreds by the way they speak, peculiar diphthongs and expressions.

Igbo is a language with different dailects even me the part of Enugu state where i come from we have our own dailect which can be strange to an anambra man but we use igbo nzugbe (general Igbo dailect) to communicate and understand each other.
Anambra people has very much presence in our Enugu markets, we Enugu people in return has hug presence too in Anambra markets. Any body can go anywere, reside and do business. I know an ikwerre man who is a serious importer in Onitsha market, we regard him as our Igbo brother. Please professor allow your brother to mingle with their brothers in south east as it will not take any thing away from ikwerre people.

      Bro,
A lot of those making anti-Igbo noise online as Ikwerre are not even Ikwerre. Most are SW people fearful that Ikwerre/Igbo rapprochement could lead to the revival of Port Harcourt as a leading port and trigger an exodus of Igbo importers from Lagos. according to the Shippers Council, over 65% of all containers shipped to Nigeria belong to the Igbos. Others are Bayelsa Ijaws playing amateur divide-and-rule politics by proclaiming every upland village a separate "ethnic nationality" even as they claim distant ethnic groups with different ethnic origins and languages as one united "Ijaw".

    • @nnfefe9451
      @nnfefe9451 2 месяца назад

@OmmoleOkpiri What he is saying is that Ikwerre left Benin and came to Igboland. By that admission, Ikwerre is occupying Igboland and so Igbos have the right to demand their land back from the Ikwerre since they are Bini people. A trap has been laid by what people say.

  • @nnfefe9451
    @nnfefe9451 2 месяца назад +2

If you claim that Inwhuruhohna otherwise known as Ikwerre came from Bini then you are settling in a land that was never yours in the first place. The resolution is that you people should sojourn back to Bini as you would be welcomed with open arms. Besides, you would relearn the Bini language that evaporated from your heads when you migrated to Igboland.

Prof. Why Ikweres re speaking igbo and answering Igbo name and community and villages in Ikwere re Igbos by name.
    So how comes
Do you means dat your furfather's drop their ancestral native language and start speaking Igbo.
And why people are lie like this ? So simple because of Ikwere people married from other Igbo land, thy formally drop their native language and speaking Igbo language.
    Let me tell you
That marriage alone tell's you dat we are one people's because in d old in day's nobody leave his tribe and go outside and marry another tribe. Before before in Igbo land,
Is now people are marrying everywhere not before but few people marry outside their tribe.
    So mr man stop lie.
I thank God you use your mouth said dat theirs no time Igbo colonies Ikwere people,
Simple means dat thy re one people's, by tradition, culture and custom with the same belive.
And let me ask you prof.
Ikwere is't Igbo name or not ??
Secondly...hw come all d communities and villages in Ikwere and beccome Igbo names .
And which people do it, by given all these communities and villages Igbo names,
Is't British people names d hole community and villages name.
OR Nigeria government change d community and villages name so tell me.
We need all this answer one by one.
Because you had already said dat Igbo people didn't colonies Ikwere people.
And my question again is hw can one people colonies them selves. Is it possible prof ?
    Answer......
And what i am seeing is dat you're confusing yourself.
Unless you wan to get money from Nigeria government by saying Rubish.
ONLY THIN.... I knows is dat we Igbos knows ourselves, if like go to abuja and disgracing our self.
Our brothers from Ikwere, Egbema, Eche Ndoki ,opopo, igwe ocha, Omoku, Awuda, and so forth
All this communities knows thy re Igbo people by origin,
    Throu.....
    Languages and with different dialects.
    Language
    Culture
    Tradition
    Custom
    Four market day's....
    Eke
    Orie
    Afor
    Nkwo.
And igbo igbo festival re the same .
    Iri iji
    Iwa iji
    Emume iji
    Ive ji oku
And so many other names in Igbo land call it.
All this name here, meaning the same thing in Igbo language.
So prof. Why re you twisting everything to prove Ikwere people re not Igbo people.
And let me tell you, lumater hw you twist it, can work that's pure truth. Which you know. U re just waisting your time for nothing.
Igbos re more than fourty million people in Nigeria. And thy knows their roots.as igbo people and not only Igbo speaking.

Am aware of the Isoko phenomenon who their people sent to learn from the Igbo. I met one of them in Shagamu. I thought he was Igbo. He runs a men's dress and shoe shop. He told me he was brought up at Aba. He speaks Igbo runs his shop as a typical Igbo man does. I also met a Birom woman in this town who told me she was brought by an Igbo in Jos. She runs an eatery. Those who are brought up or trained by the Igbos in business wind up loving the Igbo and marrying Igbo.
The problem with Nigeria is that the other ethnic groups do no appreciate the Igbo. When the British came, we appreciated the efucation they offered. If we didn't, there would be no University Of Port Harcourt, and no professor Alex British Tasie and no orthodox medical doctors, not engineers, no chemists etc amongst. If you don't appreciate someone and what he has to offer, you cannot learn from him.

Its a very sad thing to see a person fight so hard against his own mirror reflection.
The igbos are the oldest indigenous ethnicity all way from north-western Cameroon all the way to Togo and from the ocean all the way up to just before the Sahel. They have lived continuously in this location for 10,000 years. Both archeology and extensive oral tradition prove tbis.
The Lejja ancient iron smelting site in Nsuka dates back to 2000 BC (4000 years ago) and its the oldest in the world, predating the next oldest (in Turkey) by almost 600 years.
The oldest bronze works in all of west africa, also come from Igbo land, predating the benin and Ife bronzeworks by nearly 400 years. Even our Oral tradition describes how we are an ancient people who have always been in the present location, everyone else came to meet us here.
The Ikwere always talk about how they're not Igbos, and that they're decendants of the benin kingdom (and there's essence to the claim), but the benin kingdom is only 800 years old (Ife, the Origin of the entire yoruba people, is only 900 years old)
Yet, the "professor" is here claiming that the Igbos came from the Ikwere's (never mind the huge variance in population).
Well, how can the Igbos, who have been here for 10,000 years, come from the Ikwere if the Ikwere's are descendants of the benin kingdom that is only 800 years old? Please make it make sense.

There is a saying that: Igbo na su na olu nolu- means in dialects just like Ikwere and other Igbo speaking areas. Go to Igala people the same thing. Nonsense. Ikwerreland is the same distance to the Atlantic Ocean as Azumini in Abia State.

via the River Niger at Onitsha, River Cross via Oziza/Ndibe in Afikpo, Oguta in Imo State etc. not
to talk of Ibo coastal settlements in Bonny and Opobo through which Ibos participated robustly in
trade with Europeans for hundreds of years. Ikwerre port only became relevant when coal was
discovered in Enugu. But since 1970, Ibos have ceased to use Port Harcourt seaport.

As a Benin man that I'm, there's no way parts of porharcort if not all be Igbos because every ikwerri persons I have seen so far speak and understand Igbos language, but there's one thing I will urge the Igbos should stop doing is, to telling other people or ethics groups whose didn't fall into the 5 major Eastern state as a minority, because the hausas and yorubas have almost succeeding dividing the southern part of Nigeria for their political greed , so they managed to create the divisions by creating the majority and the minority which some persons seen as an insult, the yorubas and the hausas already know that they can't have the southern part of Nigeria to themselves and for that reason they cannot also let the igbo have it instead the create segregation by creating south-south and some of us are falling for their games and the people in the area they carved out as the south-south beginning to look at it that way, instead we'll be under the yorubas or Igbos, we can create our own nation from the south-south where everyone that fall into the south-south will all see themselves as equal instead of be a minority under any person.
Sometimes when I seen the Igbos on media especially joining the yorubas calling other minority, i will just laugh 😅

The issue is : you do not tell people where they come from or try to force them that they're from a particular place And whether they have been acculturated and now bear Igbo names doesn't mean you can tell them where they come from. It's wrong. A change in demography happens everywhere. Kwara State used to be purely for the Yorubas, but the coming of the Fulanis changed that after the several tribal wars fought in that region in those days. Lebanon as we know it today was originally a Christian country. But today the case is different. Intermarriages can happen and change the demographic order of a particular place. Period. So, let's stop this childish way of thinking.

      Bro,
You again? You have no coherent knowledge base to comment on this matter and yet you return over and over again to advance your infantile views along with your impoverished and unrelated examples. Who told you that Igbo people have an equivalent or near equivalent history as Yorubas of Kwara state or Christians of Lebanon? Can you provide any evidence of demographic change and its causes in the area under discussion beyond mere speculation? This is precisely how you people barge into every intra-Igbo discussions with your all-knowing, vacuous posturing, then turn around and start whining when the same Igbos come down on you like a ton of bricks. You definitely need to stop your childish way of thinking which is exclusive to you and stay in your lane or face relentless bashing by the Igbos.

Direct remedial action by elders is needed here. As I opined somewhere, Port Harcourt is growing and engulfing surrounding villages, Ohanaeze can help by working with local groups such as Ogbakor Ikwerre to issue a guideline on land transactions with the aim to achieving justice, equity and ensuring the preservation of local culture. These guidelines can be cascaded to local Ibo town unions and made binding to members. An example is where a local "lazy" youth attempts to sell off farm land or land containing local deities etc. and leaving villagers landless but helpless. Such transactions must be stopped at both ends. Local youths should instead be offered skills training, integrated into the wider Ibo apprenticeship system and set up in profitable businesses with introduction to networks and credit lines in leading Ibo cities. This will discourage land sale as the only means of making money since nobody benefits from the creation of a landless underclass anywhere.

Well, Mazi Okwukwu and Nna men erred. Azumini in Abia State is nearer to the sea than anywhere in Ikwerreland being only a few nautical miles. Besides, Ikwerre area which connects to the sea via Bonny River is NOT the only Ibo access to the sea. Ibos can access the Atlantic Ocean via the River Niger an international waterway at Onitsha, River Cross via Oziza/Ndibe in Afikpo, Oguta in Imo State etc. in addition to Ibo coastal settlements in Bonny and Opobo through which Ibos participated in trade with Europeans for hundreds of years without hinderance. Ibos are also in Equatorial Guinea a connection which was used during the war and may also be available if sea access is needed. Ikwerre area only became relevant when coal was discovered in Enugu as the British shut down all existing ports to create Port Harcourt. Since 1970, Ibos have ceased to use Port Harcourt seaport, creating trade diasporas in West/Central Africa instead and they have grown even more prosperous while you continue pining and whining about sea. If you have sea access, why are you still wallowing in abject poverty, selling off family homesteads for peanuts as the presenter said instead of prospering with your sea?

Something that we should be consciously, strategically, and forcefully pushing for, is for a regional and decentralized system of government in Nigeria. Prior to the 1966 coup, there were 4 constitutions in Nigeria. The federal constitution and 3 other regional constitutions. And because the constituation allowed for local policing, each region could enact and enforce laws for the benefit of its people.
The unitary system that we currently practice, is the bane of our problems in this country. Not only economically and developmentally, but socially and culturally as well. The unitary constitution stipulates one system of governance to be applied to a multi-ethnic and diverse population, allowing for the free and unencumbered flow of people to "grab" other people's land and resources without recourse. This is colonization in a different guise.
The "colonization" problem you are talking about is not new. It's been like this since the British joined different ethnicities together to form one country. In the early 60s, to solve this problem, the northern region under Ahmadu Bello, enacted a law in the northern constituation that any available job or business established in the northern region MUST employ a northerner first. Certain people did not like it, however, in hindsight, the man was just acting in the best interest of his people. If a Hausa-Fulani man, from a tribe that makes up one of the majority in Nigeria felt the heat of the "scavengers" as you put it; imagine the plight of the Ikwerres and other minorities.
If an Ikwerre man for whatever reason decides to set up a business in the SE, 99% of his employees will be Igbo. Same thing if he goes to the SW, except for maybe Lagos, 95% of his employees will be Yoruba. Same thing if he goes to the NW, 90% of his employees will be Hausa-Fulani. However, on the contrary, when an Igbo man comes to Port Harcourt to set up a business, he will still employ 90% Igbos. In a land that is not his! This is injustice. A travesty. The WAZOBIA ethnicities should not be able to eat their cakes and have it too, especially since the resource that powers ALL the states in Nigeria comes mainly from us in the SS.
The only way that we, the minorities, can uphold our relevance and save/maintain our culture and heritage in this WAZOBIA dominated country called Nigeria, is to be the most vociferous and staunch supporters of a return to regional governmrnt, if not the outright disintegration of Nigeria as Adako Boro propsoed, fought, and eventually died for.
With a decentralized system of govt, like what obtained in Nigeria pre the 1966 coup, and currently obtains in all sane climes from the US, UK, and UAE, to Japan, Canada, and Spain; we, the minotities, can enact laws to promote and safeguard our existence. We will be able to control our resources, our security, and our destiny. Without it, we will keep talking and complaining and fighting for relevance. However, the sad truth is that, because of the atrocious unitary system of govt that we currently operate, the WAZOBIA ethnicities will ultimately overrun us all. Take a cursory look at ALL the federal parastatals in your state. They are usually filled with and dominated by outsiders than the indigenes. This is the curse of a unitary system of govt and we should fight tooth and nail to change it for posterity and prosperity.

    • @LabaraNdonia
      @LabaraNdonia 4 месяца назад

You are confusing yourself switching from ethnic to geographical characterizations. Are the no Ibos in the SS even if Ikwerre are not one of them? Or are you suggesting that those resources that power ALL states in Nigeria are not also found in the Ibo areas? Any Ibo person setting up business anywhere including Port Harcourt does so to make profit and he pays taxes. He employ those who have the skills to achieve his business objectives irrespective of ethnic origins. So if you want to be employed, ditch your crass sense of entitlement and upgrade your skills or go to Shell BP and Shevron, Mobil etc. and complain. The Ibo man is not there to to provide social services which is the role of the state. Isaac Boro fought to establish Ijaw republic in present day Bayelsa State and Ahmadu Bello, your role model and his Fulani is not majority anywhere in Nigeria, so get your facts right.

Just remember that if a regional government is going to be created, all Ibos in the SS will not be part of you hateful lot and you will only have Bayelsa State to play with.
