Building a map of Earth's mycorrhizal fungal networks

- What would a map of the planet's mycorrhizal fungal networks look like? In April 2022, we launched a massive sampling effort led by the Society for the Protection of Underground Networks (spun.earth/), together with the Fungi Foundation (www.ffungi.org/) to develop maps of global mycorrhizal fungal diversity.
We met with a Mapuche mushroom expert, and took soil cores to analyse fungal communities on the slopes of volcanoes, on dunes, in forests of monkey puzzle trees and desolate clearcuts, and vertical bushwhacked through thickets of bamboo, recording the sounds of the soil using buried microphones to compare activity in wildly different underground environment.

Brilliant work! This is going to reveal so much. It also is going to probably humble us. Really exciting times ahead.
Incredible work.
Thank you!
“It’s like your stomach…” :)
So fantastic! I recently started listening to trees on my hikes and I recognized the sounds , different, but not foreign. This is great this work is being done!
I love this! ❤️ 🍄❤
I love this project wholeheartedly ❤️
giggle...tehehheee....SNORT! too funny
Thank you for sharing this intresting information and video.
Great effort, unfortunately the Politicians are running thing not you
Hey
You guys know that this "stomach" sound is a pattern of communication, right?
Hi Anderson! We are a team of mycorrhizal scientists who is very interested in understanding if/how trees communicate using belowground fungi. We do lots of work with tracing carbon flows, so you might like our other videos!
