This is one of the best, most concise, and visually articulate videos I've seen describing this incredible symbiotic relationships Absolutely beautiful
Idk how the algo got me here, but the simple and precise explanations with the amazing visuals are an amazing combination. What a gem! I won't need to blabber for 5-10 min to explain these concepts anymore thanks a bunch
Wow, beautifully drawn and told story. Congrats on your work, I will pass this on. Protecting the wonders of the natural world is the only way forward.
Definately not, as algae and fungis are living too. But everything more complex than these two may got their chances just because of this relationship. The beauty in both, this wonders and this piece of educational art are stunning. Thank you!
@@spunundergroundWhat studies are there on mycelial biodiversity and mycogeography? And how best can I start finding resources for the presence of / types of mycelial networks present for plants around me
That a crazy statistic about the length.....I'm calling BFS on that one ( I have no evidence to prove otherwise), but I do believe that this is a very informative and well put together video 🎉
Hello! Thanks for watching. Here's a citation for the fact about hyphal length in the top 10 cm of soil: www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/B9780128043127000024?via%3Dihub
The best funding pitch I've ever heard! Beautiful illustrations and narrative, not to mention highly illuminating. Congratulations! Too bad I'm so poor! 😂 But, I've contributed to the extension of the fungal network on my small property. 😊
How can you be sure that the first life on earth was created in fresh water? Why not in the ocean? Perhaps it was non-C, perhaps N-based, living on a thermal vent on the ocean floor? How can you be sure that algae was alive before mycelium? Perhaps it was lichen or a primal version of it that made its way out of the ocean and onto land first, and at some point plants (algae) broke loose of the mycelium structure?
We don't study this ourselves, but you could check out this paper about forests in the southwestern United States as a starting point: www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S037811271500078X From the abstract: "Our data show that while the recurring burning or the season of the prescribed burning do not affect richness and diversity of the fungal communities, the frequent (two and three year interval) fires maintain a fire-adapted community that is distinct from those in unburned reference plots. We conclude that frequent prescribed burning maintains fire selected soil fungal communities that may support plant communities that are composed of desired fire adapted or fire tolerant species that dominate the frequently burned areas."
Ok, as you can see I am a professional grower of marijuana and I have been trying to get people to understand fungi and the myccorrhizal connection for years, YEARS. I have a very special fungi I grow (by accident) its a long story but just a scoop of this introduced to sterile soil and in w weeks you have the perfect media for growing specific strains. Anyways if people knew what I had they would flock to me with cash in hand but what I would love to do is send you a sample and have you do a workup, I think it's time I mass produced this stuff. It's a miracle what it does.

Merlin and Cosmo Sheldrake- could be brothers who put this together? There's a lot of intention and focus on the Mycorrhizal and mycelium sphere, enabling us to viscerally understand how the ecology of soil is so precious and unique! Fungi and Flora are our Elders, they birthed us into this orb of pristine diversity! We are reconnecting to Earth again, only this time we are the Mycelium and Hyphae through the internet 😆
So right. We don't need them. We need food, which feeds of nutrients coming from either proteins means animals, or plants or is made from plants itself. And we need oxygen, which is made by plants as well....and most of the plants need fungi...oh, wait! .. Unless you don't get every nutrient you need from eating stones you might consider another try.

More people need to see this video! It's a piece of art! I will share it everywhere!!!!!!! 💪🏼🍄
Beautiful work, beautiful message
I'm so glad the algorithm showed me this channel. Here's hoping you garner the attention you deserve! This is so good.
Everything about this video is beautiful. We need to conserve this planet at all costs.
such beautiful and valuable work
we want more if this animation and narration it's amazing and informative at the same time
Fantastic video
This is such a gem of a video, the information concise, and your animations are really well done!
Incredible video! Very educational and inspiring!
Beautiful video.
Simply beautiful!
underrated video!
Great video. I add spores to the soil when I first plant seeds and again when potting up. The secondary root system really is a wonder of nature.
❤😮😊 👏 informative video
So all life owes it's existence to this relationship with fungi?
Yes. Or did you think that “god” created the Earth in 7 days? 😅
@@SAV175 Nothing in their comment denied the existence of God :/ Unless they're a bible thumper but not everyone who believes in God is.

I think the opening was a bit slow but I stuck it through. (I wanted to know how to pronounce 'mycorrhizal.') I watched it all. Great video!!!
OMG! This is exactly the overview I was looking for. Thank you guys so much. (Now I'm going to check out SPUN and FF.

so ... will we ever get the stand alone music of this video?
Amazing!! where can I find this exact track you're using? I tried to find it through finding Cosmo Sheldrake but can't find this track!!
This track was recorded just for this video. We will let you know if it is ever released!
Cool! How long were fungi thriving on land before algea rocked up?
What does prescribed fire in a forest, on short return intervals, do to this network?
